A
B
My
apologies
for
are
being
a
little
late.
Thank
you
for
your
patience.
We
appreciate
you
all
being
here,
we'll
go
ahead
and
return
to
our
Open
Session
and
again,
thank
you.
Actually,
I
saw
a
retiree
or
two
out
there
in
the
crowd
too.
So
thank
y'all
for
coming
back
too
Mr
ham.
I'll
turn
it
over
to
you.
C
It's
kind
of
hard
sometimes
to
to
sit
here,
and
you
start
seeing
the
the
little
eyes
and
think
about
the
things
that
are
going
on
in
our
world
and
we
just
got
to
make
it
better
for
them.
Parents
School
our
community
and
that's
that's
why
we're
here
and.
C
I
could
go
down
a
Litany
of
a
list
of
all
the
things
that
need
to
be
pointed
out,
but
sometimes
that
list
is
just
getting
too
long.
So
at
this
time
we'll
have
a
moment
of
silence
and
everybody
concentrate
on
what
you
feel
close
to
your
heart.
E
D
B
Thank
you.
Do
we
have
a
motion
to
adopt
the
agenda.
G
B
B
A
motion
a
couple
of
seconds
all
in
favor
with
an
eye
I
any
opposed
like
son.
Do
we
have
a
motion
to
approve
the
consent
agenda.
B
H
Good
evening,
Mr
chair
and
to
our
community,
thank
you
for
the
opportunity
to
just
share
a
few
items
with
you
tonight.
I
will
share
just
a
few
interactions.
We've
had
as
we
closed
out
the
first
semester
and
ended
up
and
launched
our
new
semester.
H
Okay,
yeah
our
student
advisory
met
on
January
10th,
and
we
are
excited
again
to
have
the
opportunity
to
meet
and
discuss
with
those
students.
This
time
we
really
talked
through
you'll
slide
up.
Please
yeah.
We
really
spent
a
lot
of
time
with
them
talking
about
ways
that
we
might
address
some
of
the
school
issues,
particularly
around
vaping
and
some
school
safety
issues,
just
getting
some
feedback
there.
We
also
talked
about
inclement
weather
and
how
we
communicate
that
information
next
slide.
H
The
same
information
we
shared
here
with
our
board
in
December
and
as
best
I
can
tell
it,
was
well
received
and
we're
waiting
now
just
follow
up
on.
If
there
are
any
questions
or
comments
around
what
those
needs
to
speak
to
again,
our
Chatham
Central
High
School
next
slide,
please
Chatham
Central,
High
School
was
again
confirmed
as
a
national
demonstration
school
and,
as
you
can
see
there,
there
are
most
of
the
students
there
on
stage.
H
As
that
recognition
came,
they
are
one
of
the
only
rural
schools
in
the
country,
that's
recognized
as
the
Avid
demonstration
school
and
then,
on
the
same
day
on
January
10th,
everything
happened
on
January
10th.
We
had
a
what
they
call
a
road
show
for
Abbott,
where
they
had
districts
from
around
us
and
and
our
districts
really
digging
in
and
doing
some
of
the
planning
for
Avid
but
again
they're
using
us
tonight.
Next
slide.
Please
next
tonight,
you'll
also
get
to
share
in
the
excitement
with
some
of
our
science.
H
Fair
winners
and
we
will
get
to
share
with
them
publicly
tonight
are
excited
about
their
work.
If
you
missed
it,
the
next
slide,
please,
the
next,
the
Student
Art
show
that
was
held
at
the
Chatham.
Mills
is
always
a
great
annual
event,
but
it
ran
through
the
holiday
season
through
January
3rd
and
really
had
a
lot
of
positive
responses
for
our
students,
and
then
we
shared
this
at
the
last
next
slide.
Please,
the
last
meeting
but
I
really
I,
don't
know
if
we.
B
H
Celebrated
the
inclusion,
basketball
game
that
took
place
at
that
at
Seaforth
and
Jordan
Matthews.
What
a
great
event
that
was:
organized
and
celebrated
our
kids
and
and
gave
everyone
a
platform
to
really
do
a
great
job
and
then
next
slide.
H
Last
week
our
students
who
are
in
our
CTE
nursing
programs,
they
came
every
year,
they
come
and
they
get
practice
taking
blood
pressures,
and
so
they
got
to
take
blood
pressures
at
the
Central
Services
office.
Mine
was
a
little
high,
so
they
gave
me
a.
They
gave
me
a
note
to
go
home,
and
so,
but
I
was
excited
that
they
were
so
very
enthusiastic
and
all
of
them
had
great
bedside
Manner
and
had
had
a
very
good
approach
to
the
work
and
they
were
really
excited
about
their
future
opportunities.
H
So
hopefully
you'll
see
some
of
them
in
the
nursing
field,
in
our
community
and
in
the
very
near
future,
and
then
our
last
one
is.
We
have
continued
to
build
Community
Partnerships
RTI
is
a
international
research
firm
and
we're
beginning
to
build
relationships
with
them
and
making
connections
with
them
and
our
our
Chatham
Education
Foundation.
And
so
we
had
a
a
a
meeting
this
past
week
where
we
began
that
conversation
and
so
we're
excited
about
the
potential
there
and
the
opportunities
that
will
come
from
that.
H
That
will
end
our
our
slideshow
or
or
this
meeting
our
yeah.
Our
next.
The
next
opportunity
for
us
today
is
that
we
are.
H
We
want
to
celebrate
our
school
board
appreciation
month
tonight
and
I
just
believe
that,
having
served
as
a
superintendent
now
for
approximately
15
years,
I
would
I
will
say
publicly
that
we
have
one
of
the
best
school
boards
in
this
state.
If
not
this
country,
and
if
you
all
will
join
me
in
just
thanking
them
for
their
hard
work
and
what
they
do.
Every.
H
I
hope
that
we
appreciate
them
every
month,
but
every
January
we
get
to
celebrate
them
and
their
work
and
and
they
they
really
do
a
lot
of
things
outside
of
your
vision.
But
they
really
do
support
the
work
that
we
do
every
single
day
and
I'm
extremely
grateful
for
the
opportunity
to
serve.
H
Well
strike
it
take
it
back.
Well
we're
we're
just
excited
about
that.
Our
next
item
will
be
our
power
of
one
award,
Nancy
weichel.
I
First
up,
Miss
Clemons,
who
worked
with
Margaret
V
Pollard,
was
nominated
by
a
colleague
who
pointed
out
that
she
has
grown
a
whopping
76
percent,
the
number
of
students
in
bands
since
2012.,
where
many
Arts
programs
and
bands
have
suffered.
She
has
been
able
to
keep
her
Band
program
growing.
This
statistic
was
astonishing.
She
has
recruited
and
signed
up
136th
grade
students
alone
this
year,
that
is
over
half
the
entire
sixth
grade
class
at
Margaret
B
Pollard.
Her
total
number
of
students
taught
us
280.
J
I
Congratulations:
our
next
Power
of
one
award
recipient
is
our
first
student
to
have
been
nominated
and
selected
to
receive
the
award.
J
I
Mr
Simpson
was
nominated
by
Dr
Janice
Stiles
at
North
Chatham
Elementary,
even
though
he's
a
Seaport
student
and
she
wanted
to
nominate
him
because
he's
a
student
volunteer,
he
is
deserving
of
recognition.
He
has
taken
the
initiative
to
design
a
student
leadership
book
study
that
he
will
be
implementing
as
an
after-school
club
for
fifth
grade
students
there.
I
She
said
she
was
blown
away
by
the
quality
of
the
lessons
he
designed
and
professionalism
is
exhibited
in
working
to
execute
his
plan.
It's
amazing
to
see
his
passion
for
developing
student
leaders.
This
program
will
have
a
direct
impact
on
developing
leadership
traits
and
students
who
participate
in
it.
D
K
Good
evening,
Mr
chairman
members
of
the
board,
in
the
month
of
January,
the
EC
parent
advisory
Council
recognized
two
individuals,
Miss
Rhonda
Marshall,
an
EC
instructional
assistant
at
Chatham,
Grove
she's,
not
able
to
be
with
us,
so
we'll
recognize
her
in
February
and
also
miss
Becky
Bolden,
an
EC
resource
teacher
at
Virginia
cross
Elementary.
K
K
Specifically
I
can
recall
during
remote
learning
she
was
one
of
the
first
teachers
to
embrace
a
new
platform
and
put
it
into
action
for
her
students,
even
though
it
was
really
challenging,
and
many
parents
had
great
things
to
say
about
the
work
she
did
during
that
time.
She's
always
positive.
She
always
is
student-centered
and
is
probably
one
of
the
most
humble
individuals
that
I've
ever
encountered.
Her
nomination
also
said
she's
a
talented
educator
with
a
wealth
of
patience.
K
She's
not
only
the
leader
of
the
EC
team
at
vce,
but
also
highly
valued
as
a
leader
within
her
own
classroom,
the
school
as
a
whole,
Miss
Bolden
has
a
calm,
demeanor
and
a
kind
smile
for
all
who
came
in
contact
with
her.
She
bases
her
strong
instruction
on
consistent
formative
data
and
has
a
special
skill
for
supporting
students
in
learning
to
love,
reading
and
love
school.
So
congratulations.
K
H
M
E

participated
in
the

We
were
proud
to
host
the
event
in
person
this
year.
Our
student

submitted
over
150
phenomenal
projects.
E
At
this

we
would
like
to
honor
our
first

At
this
time,
I
would
like
to
present
the
first
place.

are
called
please
come
forward
and
greet
our

we're
very
proud
of
them

so
that
we
can
celebrate
them.
The
overall
winner
of
the
Chatham

science,
fair,
was
Rebecca

was
titled
Trunks
and
tops
estimating
the
relationship
between
tree

Congratulations
to
all
of
our
winners
and
best
best
wishes.
As
you
move
on
to
the
regional
science,
fair.
J
B
A
A
B
Okay,
we'll
move
on
to
our
next
item
on
the
agenda
public
comments
and
just
want
to
remind
you.
You
have
three
minutes,
of
course,
we'll
bring
you
up
here
to
the
podium,
if
you
will
and
if
you'd
like
to
leave
a
copy.
What
you're
saying
just
leave
it
with
Ms
Guthrie
over
here
on
my
right.
First
Speaker
up
is
Marcia
Grimes.
N
Good
evening
I
wish
I
was
here
for
an
award
or
good
news.
We
as
parents
represent
the
internet.
Middle
School
came
to
the
last
Board
of
Education
meeting,
asking
for
more
transparency,
better
communication
and
a
better
plan
overall
for
the
safety
of
our
kids.
Well
last
week,
Chatham
Middle
School
was
under
a
real
lockdown.
N
This
means
two
locks
down
in
a
month,
not
a
drill,
not
a
false
alarm,
a
weapon
on
campus
keys
and
staff
on
lockdown
for
two
hours
or
more.
Just
to
give
you
an
idea.
This
time
we
did
receive
more
communication
from
central
office,
but
it's
still
not
enough,
as
we
are
expecting
in
situations
like
this.
N
N
N
N
On
top
of
that,
Margaret
Pollard,
Middle
School,
who
came
to
play,
didn't
know
anything
about
the
lockdown.
Until
we
parents
gave
them
a
call
to
let
them
all.
Let
them
know
before
dismissal
time
on
Friday
the
investigation
continued
deputies
were
going
through
lockers
and
getting
on
letters
looking
in
the
ceiling,
white
teachers
and
students
were
not
requested
to
have
a
remote
learning
day.
N
N
N
Last
but,
most
importantly,
we
are
requesting
you
all
to
implement
a
zero
tolerance
policy
for
students
who
threat
our
schools.
Let
me
repeat
a
Serial
tolerance.
These
students
should
not
be
admitted
back
at
China,
middle
or
any
school
in
our
district
tomorrow
or
ever.
Our
kids
are
afraid
to
go
back
and
they
should
not
feel
this
way.
N
Who
are
we
protecting
here?
These
kids
are
making
adult
decisions
that
we
can.
We
cannot
tolerate
and,
most
importantly,
we
need
to
prevent
at
all
costs.
These
are
just
some
of
the
questions
we
have
and
we
are
expecting
answers.
Let
me
add:
what
are
you
all
gonna
do,
after
our
kids
get
killed
under
your
supervision?
N
B
We'll
move
on
to
our
information
items
item
a
Dr
Moran
one
Chatham
strategic
planning,
update.
K
It
is
exciting
to
hear
the
progress
that
we've
made
since
we
we
launched
in
August,
so
we've
not
even
had
six
full
months
of
implementation
just
yet,
but
we
can
say
that
22
of
our
action
items
are
completed
and
you'll
see
a
visual
representation
of
that
shortly.
65
percent
are
in
progress,
you'll
see
those
marked
in
yellow
in
just
a
bit,
and
only
13
of
our
action
items
are
awaiting
progress.
K
K
A
couple
of
things
we
did
want
to
point
out
as
well
are
a
couple
of
the
ways
that
we're
actualizing
this
plan
I've
had
the
opportunity
of
working
in
five
different
districts,
having
worked
through
strategic
planning
processes,
and
this
one
has
felt
really
different
than
all
of
the
ones
that
I've
been
involved
with
before
part
of
that
is
because
it
really
truly
was
a
collaborative
process
where
we
engaged
stakeholders
and
a
couple
of
the
ways
that
we're
also
living
this
document.
K
So
it
does
not
become
just
something
that
we
put
on
a
shelf.
You
may
have
seen
this
in
meetings
that
you've
attended,
but
we've
tried
to
in
all
of
our
agendas
list
our
mission
and
vision.
We've
also
tried
to
tie
back
all
agenda
items
to
our
five
key
areas
and
our
goals
so
that
we
make
sure
that
people
attending
various
meetings
also
see
where
things
are
connected.
We
even
do
that
with
the
board
items
in
our
agendas
here
for
these
meetings.
K
K
You'll
also
remember
that
during
our
community
feedback
sessions,
five
major
areas
emerged
and
as
you'll
see
this
evening,
and
here
each
one
of
these
focused
areas
will
give
you
a
short
overview,
we'll
keep
going
and
those
were
kind
of
our
key
findings
with
all
of
the
listening
sessions.
So
you'll
see
those
findings
match
exactly
the
five
areas
that
we've
selected
we'll
keep
going
and
one
more
so.
Our
strategic
plan
has
all
of
these
various
components,
and
we
know
that
for
any
strategic
plan
to
be
effective,
it
has
to
set
that
direction.
K
We
have
to
have
a
theory
of
action.
What
is
it
we
will
actually
do?
We
have
to
make
sure
there's
a
Clear,
Vision
and
Mission
goals
and
then
beliefs,
and
so
we'll
quickly
just
slide
through
these
next
couple
of
slides.
You
know
we
started
with
trying
to
make
sure
that
we
had
a
living
breathing
document,
so
we
won't
click
on
it
right
now,
we're
going
to
show
you
some
screenshots
of
it,
but
this
plan
is
not
one
that
we
printed
2
000
copies
of
this
one.
K
We
wanted
to
make
sure
that
it
was
being
updated
in
real
time.
So
as
we
complete
items,
we
kind
of
color
code,
things
in
and
provide
intermittent
updates,
and
that's
really
different
than
our
plan
from
the
past,
where
we
would
just
print
it
off
and
it
was
forever
done,
and
so
that's
just
a
link
that
will
take
you
to
the
online
platform.
You'll
keep
going.
K
K
And
then
also,
we
wanted
to
make
sure
that
our
core
beliefs
were
embedded
in
all
of
the
things
that
we
do
so
again.
When
we
have
our
various
professional
development
sessions,
we
try
to
tie
back
to
what
our
core
beliefs
are.
We
said
that
we
believe
this.
This
is
where
we're
headed,
and
this
is
how
this
particular
meeting
or
this
particular
training
tie
in
you'll.
Just
keep
going
a
few
more.
K
Not
sure
why
it
has
so
many
Clicks
in
this
particular
one
if
you'll
keep
going
to
the
one
that
says
curriculum
and
innovation,
there
we
go
so
curriculum.
Innovation
is
probably
the
largest
area
of
our
strategic
plan
and
it
has
39
strategies
and
four
overarching
goals,
and
once
we
get
into
this
one,
if
you'll
go
one
more,
each
one
of
the
goal
areas
has
a
visual
that
looks
like
this.
K
If
you
open
up
the
Strategic
plan
online,
and
so
when
you
see
the
hexagons
each
one
of
those
is
a
specific
action
item
and
if
it's
marked
in
green,
it
means
that
it's
been
completed.
We
can
say:
we've
fully
completed
that
particular
item,
but
that
doesn't
mean
it's
one
and
done
it
means
we'll
be
continuing
it.
If
you
see
it
in
yellow
it
means
that
we've
started
it,
but
there's
still
some
progress.
K
That
still
needs
to
happen,
and
if
you
see
it
still
in
Gray
or
white,
it
just
means
that
it's
an
item
that
we
just
haven't
been
able
to
start
yet,
particularly
in
this
particular
one.
We
know
that
we're
focusing
on
K5
literacy
instruction
and
training
this
year.
So
we've
not
been
able
to
get
to
a
few
of
the
other
trainings
just
yet.
That'll
come
a
little
later
inside
of
our
plan
and
you'll
go
to
the
next
slide
so
goal.
One
for
us
is
looking
at
third
grade.
K
Reading
proficiency
you're
going
to
hear
a
large
overview
tomorrow
related
to
letters
training,
so
you'll
get
much
more
information
about
that,
but
all
of
our
K5
teachers
are
participating.
We
also
hired
for
the
first
time
in
our
district
in
quite
a
few
years.
A
literacy
program
facilitator,
who
their
sole
focus
is
looking
at
literacy
across
grade
spans.
K
goal.
Two
is
looking
at
all
of
our
students
exceeding
growth
and
looking
at
our
e-boss
and
our
school
performance
grades
of
C
or
better.
Some
of
those
same
strategies
are
in
place
as
in
our
goal
one,
but
we
also
have
done
quite
a
bit
of
work
with
culturally
proficient
practices.
We're
also
doing
data
days,
making
sure
that
our
schools
have
time
in
their
schedule
to
stop
what
they're
doing
and
really
purposefully
look
at
data.
So
we're
providing
that
time
for
our
principals
and
coaches.
K
We've
also
worked
to
develop
support
plans
and
we've
shared
that
information
with
you
in
the
past,
but
every
school
that
has
not
met
growth
or
a
school
that
is
not
a
c
or
better
has
a
very
rigorous
process
that
they
go
through
and
additional
supports
that
we
put
in
place
that
looks
like
instructional
visits
in
their
schools.
It
also
might
look
like
additional
professional
development
for
the
teachers
for
that
school
as
well,
and
if
you'll
keep
going.
This
is
just
an
overview
of
goal.
K
K
We
have
this
in
the
past
couple
of
years,
had
Dropout
prevention
positions
in
our
9
through
12
schools,
and
we've
also
formed
a
partnership
with
the
graduation
Alliance
to
help
find
dropouts.
One
of
the
tricky
things
about
our
graduation
rate
is
that
when
students
leave
us,
they
still
count
against
US.
K
Unless
we
can
find
them
and
look
to
see
what
type
of
action
they've
taken
since
leaving-
and
that's
one
of
the
things
that
until
I
was
in
this
position,
I
never
realized
I
thought
if
they
left
the
district,
they
were
no
longer
on
our
caseload,
but
we
actually
have
to
track
those
students
down
and
figure
out
if
we
can
get
them
re-enrolled
in
some
other
type
of
program.
That
would
help
our
graduation
rate.
So
that's
often
quite
a
lot
of
work
to
do
so.
We're
excited
to
have
that
partnership.
K
We
also
have
some
non-traditional
Pathways
for
students
who
maybe
need
something
a
little
bit
different.
We've
had
our
Virtual
Academy
program
for
quite
some
time,
particularly
in
9
through
12.,
and
then
we
also,
as
you
know,
are
exploring
other
non-traditional
Pathways
with
our
one
Academy
and
goal
four
we'll
keep
going
one
more.
This
particular
one
is
looking
at
closing
achievement
gaps
and
looking
at
our
long-term
goals
for
student
progress
and
again
many
of
those
same
action
items
would
be
at
play
here.
K
Avid
expansion
is
one
area
that
is
a
particular
strategy
here,
you're
going
to
hear
more
about
that.
In
just
a
bit
also
looking
at
teacher
Effectiveness,
when
we
see
that
we
have
teachers
that
might
not
be
meeting
growth
for
students,
we've
been
providing
follow-up
training
and
support
for
those
teachers
and
also
making
sure
that
we're
visiting
those
classrooms
and
reviewing
lesson
plans
on
a
more
regular
basis.
And
then
we've
also
tried
to
work
to
provide
specific
Parent,
Academy
sessions
or
training
sessions.
K
K
O
As
you
can
see
here,
there
are
two
different
goals
under
student,
health
and
safety,
but
first
of
all-
and
this
this
is
actually
going
to
be
for
each
of
the
goal
areas
we're
going
to
be
looking
at
the
same
thing
where
we're
looking
at
areas
that
are
in
yellow
things
that
we
have
started.
Areas
and
green
are
ones
that
we've
already
have
a
really
good
process
where
we've
either
either
met
those
goals
or
we're
really
far
along
in
that.
O
So,
if
you'll
go
to
the
next
slide,
the
first
goal
under
student,
health
and
safety,
we
have
an
assessment
that
is
done
through
DPI
is
called
the
fan,
Master
the
facilitative
assessment
of
multi-tier
system
of
support,
and
we
were
looking
at
health
and
safety
for
students.
O
So
here
some
of
the
areas
we
really
have
made
some
progress
along
the
areas
within
the
goals
for
this
is
that
we
already
have
our
students
and
parent
advisory
committees
underway.
Dr
Jackson
leads
those
as
well
as
other
members
of
senior
leadership
and
we've
had
the
first.
That's
had
two
student
meetings
already
and
we've
done
this
byzum
and
those
have
been
really
great.
There's
a
student
representative
in
every
school
and
every
grade
from
sixth
through
12th
grade.
O
J
Those
children,
the.
O
O
The
next
thing
there
that
we
have
been
working
on
throughout
the
year
is
specifically
with
Aces
we're
doing
parent
academies
and
those
are
covering
a
variety
of
topics.
You're
trying
to
have
those
monthly
we're.
Looking
at
student
support
supporting
students,
academically
giving
parents
information
regarding
academics.
O
Looking
at
our
Equity
commitment,
there's
going
to
be
one
coming
up
on
the
24th,
it's
going
to
be
specific
to
the
dangers
of
vaping,
so
we're
just
trying
to
have
a
variety
of
things.
We
will
be
doing
from
student
safety,
school
safety
ones
as
well
and
adding
those
in
so
those
will
be
coming
out
every
month
and
the
next
one
there.
So
you
know,
we've
talked
to
you
a
good
day.
We
do
a
lot
of
this
conversation
and
specifically
in
closed
session
within
our
school
safety
plans.
O
Mr
Blossom
and
I
have
done
training
along
with
members
from
there
are
people
who
represent
each
school
that
have
been
trained
as
well
under
our
master
of
instructor
of
school
security
and
it's
a
program
through
risk
and
Strategic
Management.
O
We
want
to
reduce
that
number.
We
didn't
want
to
look
at
suspensions
as
a
whole,
because
that
could
be
one
student.
Could
you
know
be
multiple
suspensions
at
that
point,
so
we're
wanting
to
make
sure
we're
putting
things
in
place
that
we're
to
to
help
reduce
that
some
things
that
we've
already
been
looking
at,
we
did
have
positions
that
were
funded
through
Esser
for
the
Dropout
prevention
Dr
Maria
mentioned
earlier
are
mtss
positions
in
the
elementary
and
middle
schools.
We
are
going
to
be
signing
our
school
Justice
partnership.
O
We
brought
to
you
on
the
last
month
for
you
to
approve
that'll
be
later
this
month
and
then
the
code
of
Civility
that
was
completed
over
the
summer
and
then
was
brought
to
you
for
approval
in
August.
So
those
are
three
main
things
that
we've
been
able
to
accomplish
within
the
goals
for
the
Strategic
plan
in
that
area.
Okay,
next
slide-
and
the
next
is
faculty
and
staff.
J
P
Evening
Mr
chair
members
of
the
board
in
faculty
and
staff.
We
have
two
goal
areas
with
18
strategies,
and
really
this
comes
down
to
Recruitment
and
Retention.
So
with
the
first
go
around
recruitment,
we're
aiming
for
90
or
higher
in
terms
of
position,
fill
rate
right
now,
amongst
all
our
critical
positions,
we're
at
94.
So
our
goal
is
over
this
next
several
years
to
retain
the
strategies
that
are
bringing
people
in
and
then
to
continue
to
build
on
Partnerships
that
create
some
Talent
pipelines.
P
If
you
go
to
the
next
slide,
a
couple
of
examples
are
listed
on
here
and
one
being
this
first
one
signing
mousse
with
various
universities,
typical
Partnerships
we've
had
our
teach
Chatham
conversation
that
has
already
started
prior
to
the
Strategic
plan,
and
then
a
recent
one
is
with
North
Carolina
Central
University,
looking
at
bringing
instructional
assistance
into
classroom
teaching
positions,
so
that'd
be
an
example
of
things.
One
of
the
top
topics
also
listen
on
here,
you'll
hear
more
about
tomorrow
during
our
Retreat
discussion,
the
concept
of
a
master
lease
program.
So
these
are
just
ideas.
P
We
begin
to
formulate
around
ways
we
can
recruit
an
active
and
effective
Workforce
on
the
next
slide.
We
get
to
some
of
our
strategies
so
far
about
retention,
so
this
is
about
the
work
environment.
Chatham
County
has
historically
fared
well
on
the
North
Carolina
teacher
working
conditions
survey.
This
particular
goal
area
is
more,
is
broader
than
that,
so
would
include
all
sectors
of
our
employees,
not
just
certified
staff
but
also
non-certified,
classified
and
even
extending
to
our
volunteers.
P
A
couple
of
examples
we'll
point
out
here:
first
and
foremost,
the
four
r's
continues
to
Be
an
Effective
model
for
this
part
of
the
state,
if
not
the
whole
state
of
North
Carolina,
in
terms
of
how
we're
able
to
retain
staff
and
reward
those
and
then
use
a
referral
incentive
for
bringing
staff
in
we'll
continue
to
have
examples
that
will
work
on
throughout
the
year,
including
the
last
one
noted
on
here.
A
collaboration
with
our
public
relations
department
on
recognizing
staff.
P
Q
All
right
good
evening,
Mr
chair
members
of
the
board,
Dr
Jackson
facilities
and
infrastructure.
You
can
see
the
colors
on
the
chart
and
we're
going
to
be
working
through
some
of
these.
If
you
will
go
to
the
next
slide,
there's
two
main
goals
here:
the
first
is
serviceable
capacity
of
95
or
higher.
That
appeared
that
may
sound
a
little
confusing
I
was
just
reflecting
on
that
wording.
Q
While
I
was
sitting
over
there
when
we
say
or
higher,
when
you
see
our
student
population
projection
charts
from
ored,
the
idea
is
to
keep
it
out
of
the
red
and
on
the
serviceable
chart
and
we'll
be
showing
you
that
tomorrow
there
are
three
three
points
here
that
I
listed
that
I
felt
were
relevant
to
that
goal
that
we're
doing.
The
first
is
that
we
are
in
the
process
of
completing
a
full
Landing
study
with
ored
you'll,
actually
be
seeing
the
results
of
that
tomorrow
at
our
meeting.
Q
So
it's
done
it's
not
been
released
yet
because,
of
course,
we'll
be
showing
it
to
you.
First
second
piece
is
finishing
the
construction
of
our
new
Central
Services
building
and
we
planned
ahead
for
the
future.
The
idea
was
more
than
just
where
we
are
now
but
plan
for
the
future
and
to
try
to
build
with
with
growth
in
mind,
and
we
did
that
when
you
think
back.
Q
The
third
point
that
we
had
was
our
proposed
or
our
current
and
it
says
proposed,
but
it's
actually
approved
now.
The
current
Chatham
County
CIP
program
and
I
was
reflecting
on
that
looked
at
that
several
times,
since
they
approved
it
and
we
have
new.
We
have
a
new
school
in
Chatham
Park,
which
is
scheduled
in
the
future
project
side.
We
have
a
another
school
in
Chatham
Park,
which
will
be
in
the
Southern
Village.
Q
Q
The
good
thing
is
that
we
have
a
very
strong
relationship
with
the
County
government
and
the
county
manager,
as
well
as
the
Commissioners
are
committed
to
helping
us
provide
the
classroom
space
that
we're
going
to
need
to
to
meet
the
challenges
that
are
coming
our
way,
so
that
we
can
keep
our
serviceable
capacity
at
where
we
want
it
to
be
all
right
and
and
just
to
clarify
when
we
say
serviceable
capacity.
I
know,
Frankenstein
is
our
new
member.
We
look
at
capacity,
brick
and
mortar,
as
well
as
serviceable.
Q
Serviceable
includes
the
modular
units
that
are
on
a
campus
and
brick
and
mortar
is
just
the
brick
and
mortar
structures
all
right
next
slide.
So
the
second
is
the
transportation
efficiency
rating
of
90
or
higher,
and
our
efficiency
rating
has
gone
up
and
down
the
last
several
years
since
covid
BPI
has
actually
held
the
school
district,
somewhat
harmless
and
have
Frozen
us,
and
we've
received
word
a
few
days
ago
that
they're
going
to
for
our
funding
for
next
year,
they're
going
to
leave
everybody
at
90
percent.
Q
If
you're
higher
than
90
percent,
then
you'll
get
the
number
that
you
have
getting
90
in
Chatham
County
has
been
very
difficult
just
to
be
very
Frank
with
you
and
it's
because
of
our
lack
of
population
density
outside
of
Pittsboro,
Solar,
City
and
I'm,
going
to
say
it
Goldston,
because
those
are
basically
the
three
incorporated
or
corporate
I'm
sure
that
that
term,
but
the
real
towns
that
we
have
in
Chatham
County.
Everything
else
is
basically
a
Crossroads
yeah
or
a
community.
Yes,
these
are
actual
municipalities.
Well
put
yes,
sir!
Q
So
because
of
that,
we
don't
have
a
lot
of
population
density.
When
you
add
to
that
that
we
have
this
great
big
obstacle
in
the
East
called
Jordan
Lake
and
there's
three
ways
across
it
and
only
three,
it
makes
that
that
kind
of
thing
very,
very
difficult
to
do,
but
our
transportation
folks
have
been
working
hard.
Now.
Q
Current
projections
indicate
that
when
we
start
the
year
next
year
that
we're
going
to
have
to
reduce
our
Fleet
by
10
to
20
of
our
yellow
buses,
that's
going
to
be
a
big
job
and
we're
already
working
on
that
and
looking
at
what
that
will
mean-
and
that's
based
on
the
word
that
we're
getting
from
DPI
that
may
change.
We
were
encouraged
a
couple
days
ago
when
they
said
we're
going
to
hold
you
at
90
or
higher.
That
may
mean
that
that
may
change,
but
when
I
wrote
this,
that
was
the
case.
Yes,.
Q
The
second
point
that
we
have
here,
of
course,
is
the
SMART
Bus
pilot
program,
which
we
were
selected
to
be
one
of,
and
that
will
help
us
expand
our
technology
now
I'll
be
sure
that
we
understand
we
actually
have
a
fair
amount
of
Technology
on
our
on
our
buses.
Already
we
have
GPS,
we
have
Internet,
we
have
the
radios
that
have
just
gone
in.
We
have
a
number
of
different
types
of
things.
Q
We
have
incredible
camera
and
microphone
systems
on
the
buses
that
are
miles
above
anything
that
we
had
when
I
was
a
bus
supervisor.
So
technology
is
a
big
part
of
our
Fleet
already
I'll
put
that
in
perspective
we
add
we.
We
estimate
that
the
cost
to
buy
and
outfit
a
new
yellow
bus
is
somewhere
between
120
and
150
000.,
and
that's
one
of
us
that
it's
not
cheap,
but
it
it's
worth
its
weight
all
right.
Q
The
third
point
that
I
wrote
down
was
that
our
schools
are
working
together
inside
their
attendance,
primarily
inside
their
attendance
zones,
but
outside
of
their
attendance
zones
as
well
to
ensure
that
we
have
drivers
for
our
bus.
Our
buses,
Dr
Baden,
actually
met
with
Mr
cavanus
and
some
of
the
transportation
Staff
last
week
and
came
over
and
we
spent
a
couple
hours
talking
through
our
driver
situation,
we're
going
to
pull
together
some
data
for
him.
The
situation
is
getting
better
than
it
was
at
the
beaker
covered.
Q
It's
still
not
perfect,
but
I'll
be
frank.
With
you
having
been
a
bus
supervisor
at
a
high
school
in
eastern
North
Carolina
they
had
28
buses.
I
can
tell
you
that
drivers
have
always
been
an
issue.
That's
not
a
new
thing.
What
was
different
was
the
degree
of
it,
but
the
degree
is
getting
better
and
we're
finding
workarounds
and
things
are
improving.
Q
We're
not
back
I
would
never
I'm
not
going
to
venture
to
say
that
we're
back
to
pre-cutter,
but
we
are
headed
in
the
right
direction
that
we
are
working
on
those
things
all
right.
Those
were
the
pieces
for
the
facility
infrastructure.
Go
to
our
next
slide,
I
think
our
next
group
is
Communications
and
information
sharing.
I
Good
evening
again,
so
the
the
strategies
for
communication
and
information
sharing
are
really
two-pronged.
The
first
goal
focuses
on
extending
our
reached
find
people
in
our
community,
wherever
they
might
be,
whether
that's
on
social
media,
a
website
they
like
getting
a
newsletter
in
their
inbox,
so
we
want
to
make
sure
that
we
are
sharing
all
of
the
good
things
happening
in
Chatham,
County
schools
and
able
to
reach
families
when
we
we
need
to.
I
The
second
goal
focuses
more
on
making
sure
that
the
communication
that
is
going
out
is
satisfactory
to
families
and
that
we
are
getting
that
feedback
and
not
operating
in
a
vacuum.
The
updated
guide
will
be
posted
on
the
district
website
tomorrow.
We
wanted
to
share
it
with
you
before
my
team
put
it
up
there,
but
we
have
definitely
made
strides
in
our
ability
in
the
number
of
ways
we
are
able
to
reach
people.
We
started
Instagram
in
August.
We've
gained
a
couple
of
hundred
followers
already
with
that.
I
The
expansion
with
the
pr
coordinator
has
enabled
our
video
capabilities
and
we've
been
as
you'll
see
in
my
in
the
final
presentation
tonight.
We've
got
some
good
stats
on
how
we've
done
in
the
past
year,
over
social
media.
I
So
again,
some
of
the
things
we're
doing
specifically
we
found
in-person
meetings
have
been
very
effective.
The
Education
Foundation
is
partnering
with
us
to
set
up
a
series
of
get
togethers
with
various
groups,
including
our
ptas
and
Civic
organizations.
I
I
Our
newsletter
we're
hoping
to
launch
at
the
end
of
February
and
that
will
be
potentially
an
opt
out.
So
all
parents
and
staff
can
receive
that
and
we're
using
a
platform
now
called
HootSuite
that
allows
us
to
have
greater
capability
on
scheduling
post
to
God,
on
social
media.
I
And
the
listening
events
are
also
tied
again
with
Dr
Gohan,
with
Dr
Jackson
in
the
first
quarter
of
year
meeting
with
rotary
Chatham
County,
Schools
retirees
C4
student
body,
and
we've
worked
with
our
testing
and
accountability
staff
to
create
a
series
of
videos
for
how
to
use
PowerSchool.
Powerschool
is
not
always
intuitive
or
or
entirely
friendly.
So
we
thought
a
visual
prompt
with
that
might
be
helpful
and
I.
Think
that's
it
for
me.
K
So,
as
you
can
see,
we've
been
pretty
busy
since
August
and
we
hope
you
found
the
overview
helpful,
but
as
we
move
into
your
mid-year
retreat
tomorrow,
we
wanted
to
just
give
you
kind
of
this
broad
overview,
because
all
the
items
that
you'll
be
discussing
are
obviously
an
extension
of
our
strategic
plan.
It
helps
set
our
focus.
It
helps
us
stay
accountable
to
our
stakeholders
and
also
accountable
to
you.
So
we
look
forward
to
digging
in
more
tomorrow
on
some
of
these
items
at
greater
debt.
B
K
.
so
this
evening,
we're
excited
to
give
you
an
update
on
the
programming
and
supports
from
our
excellence
and
opportunity
team.
As
you
may
recall,
this
is
our
newest
arm
of
the
academic
services
and
instructional
Support
Division,
specifically
tonight,
you'll
hear
about
Avid
dual
language
and
our
E3
team
work
all
have
been
Hallmark
programs
of
Chatham
for
many
many
years
previously,
these
programs,
while
they
were
certainly
Hallmark
programs,
they
really
didn't,
have
a
landing
spot.
So
you
know
I
would
try
to
cover
our
Equity
team
sessions.
K
Ms
Fowler
might
try
to
cover
certain
things
and
no
one
really
owned
these
various
programs,
and
so
they
didn't
always
get
the
love
and
attention
and
prioritization
that
they
deserved,
and
so
it's
been
really
nice
to
be
able
to
have
this
particular
position
and
start
building
out
this
particular
arm
of
of
Asus
to
be
able
to
give
that
attention
a
couple
of
things
that
make
this
particular
part
of
our
division
a
little
bit
different
than
how
you
might
see
other
districts
do
this
our
excellence
in
Opportunity
area
Falls
within
academics,
which
allows
it
to
stay
really
tightly
aligned
with
instruction,
which
should
be
the
core
work
that
we're
all
focused
on.
K
K
We
have
this
particular
person
and
the
individuals
who
carry
out
this
work
in
both
of
those
Arenas
and
that
allows
us
I
think
to
make
sure
that
we're
building
connections
so
that
people
see
the
purpose
of
the
work,
and
it
also
makes
sure
that
we're
looking
through
our
decision
making
lens
with
a
lens
that
is
looking
at
all
students.
So
the
key
takeaway
that
we
hope
you
will
have
tonight
is
the
work
of
excellence
and
opportunity
and
how
it
impacts
every
school.
R
S
A
S
S
S
So
Evan
Avid
is
advancement
via
individual
determination
and
Abbott's
mission
is
to
close
the
opportunity
Gap
by
preparing
all
students
for
College
and
Career
readers
in
a
global
Society,
and
here
is
just
a
snapshot
of
Abbott
in
Chatham,
County
Abbott
started
in
2006
at
Chatham
Central
and
then
moved
to
Jordan
Matthews
in
2015.
S
go
to
the
next
slide
and
then
2016
Abbott
was
started
at
Chatham
middle
I'm,
really
fortunate
to
begin
Abbott
and
the
elementary
school
in
2018
George,
Moses
Horton
in
2020,
and
this
year.
With
your
support,
we
were
able
to
start
Avenue
five
arcade
schools,
I'm,
focusing
on
Middle
School,
which
we're
really
excited
about.
S
We
hope,
with
your
continued
support,
to
expand
Advent
next
year
to
Pollard
Middle
School
and
right
now
we
haven't
done
any
Abbott
training
at
Foster
board
for
our
K-5
teachers
outside
of
BCE,
simply
because
of
letters
and
assignments
Arena.
We
want
them
to
be
able
to
focus
on
that,
hopefully,
in
the
future,
all
of
our
elementary
schools
can
be
done
and
here's
just
a
list
of
all
of
our
Advent
programs
and
Chatham
County
schools
and
we're
really
excited.
S
Here
here,
a
lot
of
conversation
about
wicker
wicker
is
really
the
instructional
framework
and
focus
for
Abbott.
Wicker
stands
for
writing
and
query
collaboration
organization
and
reading
our
teachers
and
students
use
Bricker
and
our
Avid
schools.
Every
day
our
teachers
plan
around
the
framework
of
wicker
and
our
students
are
able
to
identify
with
her
throughout
their
lessons
and
that's
the
powerful
part
when
students
are
saying
this
is
how
I'm,
using.
S
Ago
yesterday,
I
saw
a
picture.
I
was
excited
to
see
that
yeah
yeah.
So
here's
just
an
example.
I
think
this
is
Chatham
Central
when
they
went
to
on
a
college
visit.
But
this
is
an
example
of
wicker.
We
use
wicker
without
quick
rights,
Focus
note
taking
collaboration.
We
have
whipper
and
Socratic
seminars,
our
binders,
you
hear
a
lot
of
talk
of
Abbott,
binders
and
tautology
and
reading
so
lots
of
examples
of
wicker
throughout
our
buildings.
S
Also,
the
focus
note
taking
Keys
using
making
sure
our
students
aren't
just
taking
notes,
but
going
back
using
those
notes,
highlighting
the
notes
right
in
the
margin
asking
questions
of
those
notes,
just
not
taking
the
notes
for
notes
taking
sake,
but
using
those
notes.
As
study
teams.
S
Loss
of
structure
for
inquiry
and
collaboration
I'm
the
C
and
workers
collaboration,
so
we
offer
training
our
Avid
coordinators
offer
training
on
all
the
things
to
support
collaboration,
whether
spideo
seminar,
philosophical
chairs,
the
credit
seminar,
all
the
things
to
support
collaboration,
we're
really
proud
of
our
students.
They
are
Avid,
students
are
leaders
and
you'll
get
a
chance
to
hear
from
them.
Tonight
there
are
leaders
in
school
and
outside
of
school
in
the
community.
We're
really
proud
of
the
leadership
opportunities
that
Abbott
provides
and
our
students
are
go-getters.
S
We
want
all
of
our
students
to
be
prepared
for
college
four-year
College,
even
though
they
may
choose
a
different
Pathways
two-year
or
you
know
their
Workforce.
So
we
have
some
accountability
structures
in
place
by
I'm,
involving
parents
making
sure
they
are
aware
of
their
expectations.
S
S
S
Here's
just
some
celebratory
stats.
We
are
at
our
14th
graduating
Abbott
senior
class
over
700
graduates.
More
than
30
percent
of
first
generation
high
school
graduate
graduate
students
more
than
80
percent
of
first
generation
college
students,
99
of
our
students
are
accepted
into
a
four-year
University.
Of
course,
100
are
high
school
graduates,
just
some
celebrations
across
our
district,
and
we
we're
at
Chatham
Central
last
year
for
their
Advent
celebration.
That
number
on
the
screen
is
the
total
amount
of
scholarship
money
that
was
awarded
to
our
advocacy
and
we're
really
proud.
S
Some
continue
just
celebration
already
this
year
and
you'll
probably
hear
this
from
Miss
Deaton.
We
already
have
100
four-year
College
acceptance
rate
from
all
of
our
Avid
seniors
across
our
high
schools,
and
we're
really
proud
of
that,
and
just
some
of
the
scholarships
that
our
students
are
awarded.
S
Of
course,
as
Dr
Jackson
mentioned
earlier,
our
Channel
Central
I
went
through
their
recertification
this
year
and
they
are
a
national
demonstration
so
we'll
still
over
extremely
proud
of
you
foreign
this
afternoon.
In
regards
to
Apple,
we
have
Miss
Deaton
and
we'll
ask
her
to
come
up
to
the
podium,
and
she
also
has
brought
with
her.
R
T
Good
evening,
good
evening,
my
name
is
Elizabeth
Deaton
and
I'm.
The
AVID
coordinator
at
Jordan,
Matthews,
high
school
and
Avid
the
beginning
of
each
school
year
is
an
exciting
opportunity
to
meet
a
new
group
of
students.
I
usually
start
the
first
day
with
some
comical
information
about
myself
and
let
the
students
know
that
we
may
be
strangers
today,
but
will
soon
be
family.
T
We
take
a
group
picture
of
the
first
week,
so
we
can
look
back
and
laugh
about
it
when
they
graduate
throughout
the
year
I
spend
time
having
conversations
about
what
they
are
watching
on
TV,
what
sports
they
are
playing,
what
hobbies
they
enjoy
and
how
things
are
going
in
their
classes.
It
often
takes
a
few
weeks
but
I
start
to
notice.
Students
sitting
in
my
room
before
school
asking
for
food
teenagers
are
always
hungry
and
telling
me
about
their
weekends.
By
the
end
of
the
semester.
T
When
we
may
have
our
conversation
conversations
about
their
grades,
they
know
that
I
truly
care
about
their
success.
The
sense
of
community
can
be
felt
in
the
room
and
by
their
senior
years,
We
Are
Family,
like
90
percent
of
my
Avid
students.
I
too,
is
a
first
generation
college.
Graduate
I
too,
could
have
used,
help
completing
the
FAFSA
filling
out
college
applications
and
finding
scholarships,
but
Avid
is
so
much
more
than
those
things.
T
Every
day
in
Avid
our
students
are
goal
setting
researching
careers
reading
about
college
loans,
practicing
SAT
and
ACT
questions,
Reading,
Writing
and
learning
study
strategies.
Twice
a
week.
Students
participate
in
a
tutorial
session
with
myself
and
college
tutors
to
support
them
in
the
AP
honors
and
dual
enrollment
classes
that
they
are
all
enrolled
in.
T
Our
students
are
successful.
During
my
12-year
tenure
with
Avid,
every
Avid
senior
has
been
accepted
into
a
four-year
College
I
currently
have
students
at
Davidson,
Temple,
UNC,
Chapel,
Hill,
NC,
State,
Elon,
UNC,
Charlotte,
Appalachian,
UNC
Wilmington,
and
many
more
Jordan

T
We
currently
have
15
Dell

semi-finalists
and
our
Avid
senior
class
of
48.
I'm,
so
proud
of
the
work
that
our
Avid
students
and
teachers
have
put
in
and
it
is
paying
off.
We
have
Avid
alumni
that
have
come
back
to
work
in
Chatham
County
as
teachers,
social
workers,
law
enforcement,
Health,
Care,
Providers,
Realtors
and
Community
leaders.
Avid
is
more
than
a
way
to
close
the
opportunity
Gap.
It
is
an
investment
in
the
growth
of
Chatham
County.
T
U
So
it's
been
seven
years
since
I've
been
in
the
AVID
program
from
the
very
beginning,
I
was
very
excited
to
be
joining
this
program,
especially
for
the
college
trips
and
middle
school.
Going
on
the
college,
ships
gave
me
a
Clear
Vision
of
what,
in
the
end,
I
was
striving
for
and
seeing
my
potentials
colleges
that
I
would
be
applying
to
during
High
School.
It
motivated
me,
especially
seeing
the
college
students
walking
around
campus
I,
was
telling
myself
that
I
wanted
to
be
one
of
them
in
the
future.
U
G
J
V
Good
evening
my
name
is
Joseph
Hernandez
and
I'm.
A
senior
at
Jordan,
Matthews,
I,
have
been
a
part
of
avid
for
years
and
Avid
has
helped
me.
Throughout
my
high
school
years,
I
have
learned
a
lot
of
skills
through
Avid,
for
example,
organizing
my
binder
and
using
my
planner
every
day.
V
If
it's
my
personal
planner
or
my
planner
on
my
phone
I
use
it
every
day
to
schedule
my
week
with
a
lot
of
responsibilities
that
I
have
going
on,
which
is
homework,
deadlines,
clubs
or
sports,
that
I
have
going
on
and
work
so
I
organized
my
time
throughout
my
planner
and
thanks
to
Avid
I
feel
prepared
to
use
those
skills
in
college.
V
I
think
these
skills
will
help
me
prepare
College
and
Advocate
has
also
guided
me
through
well
courses.
I
should
be
taking
throughout
High
School,
like
introducing
me
to
AP
college
AP
courses
and
CC
classes,
because
at
first
I
didn't
know
anything
about
AP
courses
and
through
Avid
they've
helped
me
Implement.
V
Those
my
junior
year
and
Senior
year
and
I
think
my
experience
from
last
year
really
helped
me
understand
the
rigorous
of
AP
courses
and
you
know
seeing
how
they
could
be
similar
to
the
college
courses
that
would
take
on
the
future.
U
V
But
these
Avid
has
provided
me
with
a
Clear
Vision
of
what
I
want
After
High
School
Avid
has
also
given
me
the
confidence
and
understanding
that
I
am
capable
of
furthering
my
education
coming
from
immigrant
parents.
I
would
never
imagine
me
celebrating
my
college
acceptances
with
them,
and
I
am
thankful
for
all
Avid
has
done,
because
without
Evan
it
was
beaten,
I
would
never
I
would
not
be
where
I
am
today.
Thank
you.
W
W
I
joined
my
freshman
year,
I
joined
well
I
joined
my
freshman
year,
because
I
wasn't
allowed
to
join
in
Middle
School
due
to
do
a
language
because
they
confident
it
was
like
a
conflict
between
both
schedules
and
I
always
admire
the
the
amazing
community
that
I
had
seen
had
been
developed
in
Avid,
seeing
them
how
they
were
so
close
together
and
just
a
big
like
big
happy
family,
as
Miss
Dean
said
that
we
are
now.
It's
just
always
been
amazing.
W
To
me,
Community
to
me
is
very
important
because
it
it
allows
me
to
collaborate
with
different
individuals
who
have
different
perspectives
for
mine.
W
It
helps
me
motivate
myself
and,
as
you
know,
we
use
wicker
and
all
of
these
different
ways
to
work
together
as
a
group
which
is
very
helpful,
because
we
get
to
learn
new
experiences
and
more
information
that
sometimes
we
don't
get
in
the
class
while
we're
with
the
teacher
during
those
only
certain
minutes
that
we
have
with
them.
W
I
have
been
lucky
to
be
a
part
of
the
AVID
program
where
I
have
learned
the
importance
of
having
a
tight-knit
community,
like
the
one
I
hope
that
I
get
to
develop
at
my
future
College,
where
I'm,
where,
where
I
will
end
up
so
far,
I
would
like
to
say
that
I
have
10
colleges
acceptances
already
from
the
14
that
I've
applied.
So
you
know
it's
a
big
deal
for
me,
especially.
W
Especially
being
a
first
generation,
I
can
say
that
my
first
college
acceptance
that
I
got
I
literally
cried
with
my
parents,
because
it
was
a
big
goal
for
me
and
just
seeing
them
being
excited
and
seeing
how
my
hard
work
and
efforts
was
being
rewarded
was
just
very
nice
and
well
having
just
that
close
family
community
that
I've
been
able
to
develop
through
Avid.
It's
just
it's
just
no,
it's
just
the
space
where
I
know
that
I
won't
be
judged
by
anyone
that
I
I'll
be
having
a
family.
W
I
know
that
I'll
be
respected,
no
matter
what
also,
as
they
said,
the
scholarships
opportunities
I
applied
for
the
gates,
scholarships
just
on
a
whim,
just
to
say,
like
you
know,
let's
see
what
happens
and
so
far
I'm
a
semi-finalist
for
it.
So
you
know
it's
a
big
deal
for
me
having
these
like
small
little
accomplishments
in
my
own
life
and
then
being
able
to
share
with
my
family
and
especially
with
Miss,
with
Miss
Dean
and
the
AVID
program.
W
It's
just
a
great
opportunity
for
me
to
have,
and
well
as
I
said,
a
lot
already.
You
know
the
family
community
I.
Just
know
that
wherever
I
go,
I
will
always
have
a
village
and
I'll
always
find
someone.
At
least
that
has
the
same
experience
as
me
with
the
AVID
program,
which
is
just
something
that
it's
amazing
just
to
have
and
okay.
Thank
you.
So
much.
T
They
said
these
students
don't
like
to
brag
on
themselves,
so
we're
going
to
have
them
come
back
up
and
do
that
and
tell
where
they've
been
accepted
and
any
leadership
positions
or
you
know,
scholarship
nominations
that
they've
received.
U
Hi
again,
though,
I've
been
accepted
to
I'm
pretty
sure
eight
of
my
colleges
we're
still
waiting
for
two,
no
three
actually
yeah
three,
so
I've
been
accepted
to
the
University
of
Greensboro
Elon
University,
East,
Carolina,
University,.
U
Oh
UNC
Charlotte
thank
you.
Jimmy
did
I,
say.
J
U
Yeah
and
I'm
just
waiting
for
three
more,
which
is
NC,
State,
UNC,
Chapel,
Hill
and
Wake
Forest,
and
then
my
leadership
positions
I'm
in
this
club
called
Leo.
Club
and
I
had
a
leadership
position.
My
junior
year,
which
was
Treasure
and
now
my
senior
year
I'm
vice
president
yep.
V
Okay,
so
I've
applied
a
13
and
I've
heard
from
10.
I
mean
11.,
so
Appalachian
State,
UNCG,
UNC,
Wilmington,
UNT,
Pembroke,
Campbell,
University,
Lenoir,
rhyme
Guilford,
Elon,
UNC,
Asheville,
ECU
and
UNT
Charlotte,
and
then
I'm
waiting
on
NC,
State
and
Chapel,
and
then
my
leadership
positions
I'm
a
part
of
this
cider
c
community
meal,
where
we
give
out
meals
once
a
month
to
people
in
our
community
and
I'm
the
youth
leader.
V
But
we
had
to
end
it
this
year,
because
just
the
people
that
were
in
the
committee
were
just
gonna
have
enough
time
to
keep
on
going
I'm.
Also
vice
president
of
deca
of
the
testing
part
of
the
club
and
secretary
Secretary
of
Leo
for
treasurer
yeah
I,
think
that's
it
yeah
foreign.
W
So,
like
I
said,
I
got
accepted,
I've
been
accepted
to
10
10
colleges,
I've
been
accepted
into
Liberty
University
Appalachian
East
Carolina
UNCG
Elon
UNC
Charlotte
UNC,
Wilmington
I'm,
waiting
on
NC
State,
Syracuse,
University,
Davidson
and
then
I've
also
been
accepted
into
Campbell
Pfeiffer.
W
My
leadership
roles
have
been
well
I
joined
this
year.
To
my
robotics
team.
At
school,
I
became
the
media
team
lead
in
less
than
a
year
since
I
joined
I.
Guess
they
saw
some
potential
in
me,
but
you
know
I,
don't
really
see
it,
but
you
know
it's
fine,
I'm.
Also
the
youth
group
leader
for
my
church,
oh
I'm,
also
in
the
SGA
at
school,
so
I'm,
the
senior
class
president.
R
Thank
you
guys
and
thank
you
Miss
Dean,
for
all
your
leadership
and
Miss
Brookfield
the
principal.
We
appreciate
your
commitment
to.
S
B
S
It's
a
wonderful
job
and
I
I
have
all
these
trees
killed
here
and
they
use
their
phones,
their
notes.
The
next
piece
of
our
Excellence
opportunity
division
is
our
Equity
commitment
in
our
district.
It's
the
one
to
briefly
share
some
of
the
things
that
we've
done
this
year.
In
regards
to
that
commitment.
S
S
Some
of
our
professional
learning
that
we've
done
this
year
are
Beyond
diversity,
training
for
every
school
administrator,
our
principal
Equity,
Roundtable
monthly,
where
we're
talking
about
culturally
respectful
practices,
our
culturally
respectful,
walk
through
tool
and
we're
also
making
sure
that
every
school
has
that
School
level
team
and
we've
asked
every
school
to
include
an
equity
goal
in
their
PDP
for
their
teachers
and
also
in
their
school
Improvement
plan,
so
excited
to
have
MS
McFatter
with
us.
S
She
couldn't
be
here
tonight,
but
she's
been
a
a
heart,
spell
diligent
part
of
our
team
working
really
hard
I'm
connecting
with
the
community
Heavenly
and
support
Avid,
and
also
our
excellent
opportunity
commitment.
We
continually
have
Equity
Champions
each
month
and
we
also
have
an
equity
Ambassador
team
that
meets
quarterly
of
community
stakeholder
members.
We
also
award
grants
to
teachers
who
request
funds
to
do
special
Equity
related
projects
in
their
schools.
S
This
community
engagement
is
extremely
important
to
this
work.
We
support
our
mous,
the
Boys
and
Girls
Club
communities
in
school,
Hispanic
liaison
and
also
the
community
remembrance
coalition.
We
have
various
parent
academies,
as
Dr
Moran
mentioned
from.
S
Some
things
we
want
to
continue
to
do
in
our
Equity
commitment
to
make
sure
that
we
continue
to
provide
leadership
opportunities
for
students.
We
want
to
make
sure
we
send
our
student
voice
restorative
practices,
we've
been
working
in
conjunctional,
Miss,
Fowler
and
student
services
to
make
sure
restorative
practices
are
occurring,
but
also
that
folks
are
getting
the
needed,
training
collaborating
with
Nancy
and
her
team
to
do
an
excellent
opportunity.
S
Here's
just
a
picture
on
the
left.
There
Dr
Jackson's
some
of
our
board
members.
We
went
to
Raleigh
and
had
a
restorative
practice
two-day
training.
Our
principals
went
with
us
along
with
some
community
members
in
the
middle
there's,
a
teacher
and
her
student
from
a
Harrison
who
won
an
equity
Grant
was
on
Recycling
and
so
just
a
picture
day
of
our
Equity
Grant,
and
then
the
right
is
I'm
a
picture
of
our
administrators
participating
in
equities.
S
So
our
final
leg
of
our
work
is
our
dual
language
program.
You
have
opportunity
to
hear
from
some
of
our
students
in
our
dual
language
teacher
at
JM
tonight
too,
but,
as
you
guys
know,
we
have
a
dual
language
program
in
our
Edition.
That
we're
extremely
proud
of
our
goal
and
mission
is
to
prepare
bilingual
students
as
critical
thinkers
and
productive
citizens
with
literacy
skills
to
be
proficient
in
both
English
and
Spanish.
S
So
why
do
a
language?
Our
longitudinal
research
in
our
district
shows
that
our
dual
language,
students
outperform
other
students
in
the
same
tested
area
they
achieve
at
high
levels,
and
we
also
want
to
make
sure
they're
exposed,
like
some
of
the
students
mentioned
today,
to
rigorous
courses
at
Community,
College
and
AP
courses.
S
And
the
rationale
for
dual
language
to
close
the
achievement,
Gap
to
ensure
that
our
students
achieve
at
a
high
level
to
Foster
positive
cross-cultural
attitudes
and
behaviors
and
to
make
sure
we
have
educational
Equity
with
our
native
Spanish
speakers,
similar
to
Abbott,
do
a
language
start
in
our
district
in
2004
at
Solar,
City
Elementary,
Mr
Andrews
is
here.
S
S
S
We
have
a
dual
language
steering
committee
that
we
really
try
to
make
sure
that
we
get
input
from
all
stakeholders.
So
it's
just
not
one
or
two
people
around
the
table,
making
a
decision
about
all
the
students
that
are
impacted
in
dual
language,
so
be
really
partnered
with
leading
Consultants
Across
the
Nation
to
make
sure
that
we
are
doing
the
best
for
our
students
and
our
teachers.
S
So
we
passed
some
recent
changes
in
dual
language.
With
your
approval,
we
were
able
to
adjust
our
sibling
policy.
We
also
changed
our
content
allocation
plan.
Our
whole
goal
is
to
make
sure
our
students
are
speaking
Spanish
more
if
they're
in
their
dual
Linux
program
and
they
have
those
conceptual
skills
to
transfer
to
academic
areas
in
Spanish.
S
S
And
these
are
two
students
who
are
here
with
us
tonight.
This
is
when
they
were
in
eighth
grade
and
they
I
warned
them.
That
I
would
have
this
picture
up
here,
but
we
want
to
hear
from
them
and
their
dual
language
Journey,
but
also
miss
Greenberg
who's,
our
dual
language
teacher
at
Kate
him-
and
she
works
really
hard
to
support
our
students.
L
Good
evening,
good
evening,
board
members
good
evening,
Dr
Jackson,
just
a
few
words
before
I,
introduce
our
students.
My
name
is
Cynthia
breedenberg,
as
as
Mr
Poston
said,
and
I'm
a
Spanish
teacher
at
Jordan,
Matthews
High
School
I've
been
involved
with
the
Dual
language
program
for
the
last
10
years
from
starting
to
research,
the
best
practices
across
the
United
States.
We
were
able
to
travel
and
look
at
other
schools
and
what
they
did
to
developing
a
course
allocation
plan.
L
Writing
curriculum,
working
with
and
helping
our
new
and
Veteran
teachers
to
offer
the
best
courses
possible
and,
of
course,
the
best
and
most
rewarding
part
of
all
is
being
blessed
with
the
opportunity
to
teach
our
fantastic
students.
All
the
students
here
tonight,
with
the
exception
of
one
or
in
our
dual
language
program,
we've
had
over
100
students
graduate
in
the
Dual
language
program
over
the
last
five
years,
and
this
year
we
will
have
37,
which
is
our
highest
group.
Yet
we
hold
high
expectations
for
our
students
from
kindergarten
through
12th
grade
our
dual
language
graduates.
L
This
year
will
have
completed
AP
Spanish
courses
in
language
and
one
in
literature
that's
equivalent
to
a
high
200
level
college
class.
The
majority
have
taken
a
new
course
this
year
and
will
earn
four
college
credits
in
Spanish
201
through
Syracuse
University.
Our
students
completed
this
class
in
one
semester
where
Across
the
Nation
other
schools.
It
takes
the
students
one
academic
year
to
complete
the
course
55
of
our
students
scored
a
five
on
the
AP
Spanish
exam
and
nationally
only
24
of
students
earned
that
grade.
L
100
of
our
students
passed
the
exam
with
a
score
of
three
or
higher
ensuring
college
credit
at
almost
all
universities.
As
I
said,
we
hold
high
expectations
for
our
students
and
they
rarely
disappoint.
I
can't
wait
to
see
what
these
students
do
in
the
future
and
I
invite
you
to
please
come
to
JM
anytime
and
see
our
program
in
action.
Our
students
that
we
have
here
this
evening
are
Brady
Andrew,
Jocelyn,
Sanchez,
Maggie,
Thornton,
Julie,
Mateo,
Estrada
and
Macy
beavers.
L
M
M
You
yeah
y'all
can
move
on
to
the
next
slide.
If
that's
okay,
anyways,
my
name
is
Brady
Andrew
I've
been
in
the
Dual
language
program
since
kindergarten
13
years
wow
saying
that
out
loud
really
is
crazy,
but
guys
we're
going
to
be
graduating
in
a
couple
months
and
a
few
months,
but
the
time
in
the
Dual
language
program
has
really
been
invaluable
and
I've
truly
gained.
M
So
many
experiences
both
academically,
but
also
personally
so
I'll
share
about
those
really
quick
I,
don't
know
about
y'all,
but
I'm
ready
for
supper.
So
I'll
keep
this
pretty
short
and
sweet,
but
I've
been
so
equipped
academically
because
of
the
Dual
language
program.
I've
been
able
to
succeed
in
both
in
one
of
the
AP
Spanish
courses
last
year
and
I'm
getting
ready
to
take
the
AP
Spanish
Literature
starting
tomorrow.
M
Second
semester:
I
was
also
able
to
take
the
Syracuse
University
dual
enrollment
course
and
I
felt
prepared
for
both
of
those
and
I
feel
ready
to
jump
into
this
next
AP
also
I
was
able
to
attend
North
Carolina
Governor's
School
this
past
summer
in
the
area
of
Spanish,
where
I
felt
extremely
prepared
to
Talk
Amongst
peers,
thanks
to
my
time
in
the
Dual
language
program.
Also,
personally,
I
think
definitely
what
has
had
a
bigger
impact
on
me.
M
More
than
being
able
to
speak,
understand,
read
and
write
in
a
different
language
was
the
understanding
of
a
whole
nother
culture
other
than
my
own
being
able
to
see
past
my
limited
perspectives
of
the
world
around
me,
but
to
understand
that
there
are
other
perspectives
that
must
be
taken
into
account
and
I
really
do
enjoy
being
able
to
speak
another
language,
but
it's
the
understanding
of
other
people
that
I
really
do
value
and
that
I
wouldn't
have
traded
this
experience
for
anything
else.
So
thank
you.
F
F
During
my
time
in
dual
language,
I
have
been
able
to
learn
more
of
my
culture
and
how
to
speak.
My
language
more
fluently.
F
Most
of
my
childhood
I
had
spent
growing
up
with
my
grandmother,
who
only
spoke
Spanish
as
I
was
the
only
one
who
knew
both
languages.
I
had
to
be
someone
to
translate
in
most
occasions.
F
F
X
Y
Good
evening,
members
of
the
board-
I
am
Julie.
Mateo,
Estrada
and
I
have
been
a
part
of
the
language
program
for
12
years.
One
last
thing:
Brady
I
started
in
first
grade
when
the
program
first
started
in
kindergarten.
I
wasn't
eligible
to
be
part
of
the
program
because
I
am
of
Hispanic
heritage
and
I
do
have
the
opportunity
to
speak
Spanish
at
home.
Y
When
my
father
first
learned
about
the
program
he
was
interested
in
about
it,
because
there
isn't
many
opportunities
for
Hispanic
students
to
learn
both
the
grammar
and
the
reading
and
speak
and
improve
your
speech
in
Spanish
in
other
schools.
So
my
dad
was
really
interested
on
it,
but
they
did
tell
him
that
I
wasn't
eligible
for
the
program.
Y
My
dad
is
a
really
insistent
man,
so
he
was
really
fighting
well,
not
physically,
but
he
was
really
fighting
with
to
allow
me
to
be
in
a
pro
Ram,
because
there
is
that
benefit
that
my
brothers
were
able
to
have
because
they
were
of
Hispanic
heritage
and
can
speak
Spanish
at
home.
Y
So
when
in
first
grade
they
did
allow
me
to
be
a
part
of
the
program
and
that's
when
I
was
able
to
learn
further
and
improve
my
speech
speech
in
Spanish
and
my
grammar
and
reading
that
has
helped
me
be
more
eligible
more
for
other
opportunities,
wise
and
also
when
growing
up
my
brothers.
Since
they
weren't
part
of
the
program,
they
did
have
more
difficulty
translating
for
my
parents.
Y
So
since
I
wasn't
a
program
Purdue
language,
my
parents
saw
me
as
a
more
a
more
eligible
translator
for
them.
So
I
did
a
company
with
my
parents
to
the
pink
to
any
official
like
the
water
bills
and
everything
to
help
them
translate.
Y
Since
it
was
at
the
beginning
in
cellular
City,
there
wasn't
that
many
translators,
and
also
people
that
spoke
Spanish
in
the
workforce
when
I
helped
my
parents,
reading
documents
requiring
they're
requiring
their
taxes
and
as
well
as
translating
and
helping
my
mother
and
my
father
understand
further
what
they
were
supposed
to
do.
Y
The
language
overall
has
helped
me
improve
not
only
speechwise,
but
also
with
what
opportunities
I
have
since
I
was
able
to
easily
pass
the
AP
exam.
Last
semester
well
last
year,
I
got
a
five
on
it
as
well.
I'm
a
I
took
the
Syracuse
University
class,
this
past
semester,
and
that
was
a
really
real
eye-opening
experience
because
from
being
in
the
language
program,
for
so
many
years,
I
was
able
to
realize
that
many
of
us
speak
Spanish,
so
fluently
that
we
do
see.
Y
College
level
classes
a
lot,
not
beneath
us,
but
really
easy
for
us
to
take
with
since
being
in
the
language
program,
and
especially
for
our
non-ispanic
speakers.
They
were
able
to
see
that
they're
at
the
same
level
as
Latinos
and
Hispanics
that
have
been
speaking
Spanish
for
more
than
more
for
most
of
their
life,
that
they
are
able
to
compete
and
also
be
at
the
same
level
as
them
with
being
in
the
Syracuse
University
class.
We
do
get
those
credits
and
they
do
help
our
friends
that
are
also
of
immigrant
status.
Y
Y
By
being
that,
you
have
been
certified
by
from
an
institution
in
Spain
I
believe
that
you
are
a
bilingual
person
and
that
helps
you
stand
out
from
other
candidates
as
well,
and
overall
I
feel
like
the
delinguished
program,
has
helped
so
many
students
stand
out
and
also
help
them
just
with
anything,
that's
related
outside
in
their
personal
life
and
also
their
student
academic
life.
Thank
you.
Z
Good
evening
my
name
is
Macy
and,
like
Brady
I've,
been
a
part
of
the
Dual
language
program
13
years
this
year.
My
experience
in
the
Dual
language
program
was
difficult
at
first,
but
it's
been
a
big
part
of
my
life
and
the
majority.
All
of
my
schooling,
I've
known
nothing
else.
So
it's
hard
to
compare
to
other
experiences,
but
I
wouldn't
trade.
My
experience
for
the
world,
it's
been
dual
language
has
been
such
a
big
part
in
my
life
that
I
actually
wrote
about
it.
Z
For
my
college,
personal
essay
or
personal
statement
and
I
have
gained
so
many
experiences
and
friends.
The
Dual
language
students
at
my
school
have
become
a
family
and
I
know
nothing
else.
So
yeah
I've
gained
a
lot
of
experiences
with
Spanish
and
got
to
use
my
Spanish
in
the
real
world.
Z
Setting
I
am
and
I'm
an
intern
for
the
Chatham
news
and
I
helped
pass
out
publications
of
level
Stitch
Adam,
which
is
a
publication
completely
in
Spanish
and
I,
have
gotten
to
meet
and
get
to
know
people
in
my
community
who
don't
speak
any
English
at
all
and
gotten
to
use
the
Spanish
that
I've
learned
for
the
past
13
years
in
a
real
world
setting,
and
it's
been
a
really
eye-opening
experience
to
have
and
I'm
excited
to
graduate
a
dual
language
student
flew
in
two
languages.
Thank
you.
R
S
C
This
one
comment
that
there's
one
thread
that
just
ties
all
of
y'all
together
and
that's
self-confidence
and
all
that's
been
through
your
experiences.
I
I,
know
and
all
I
can
say,
is
wow
and
good
luck.
I
Ahead,
yes,
sir,
so
just
a
quick
update
on
how
we
are
doing
with
our
statistics
on
Communications,
we
pulled
the
analytics
for
the
past
for
January
2022
to
December,
2022
and
next
slide.
I
There
we
go
so
next
slide,
Joey.
I
There
we
go
so
this
is
a
look
at
the
number
of
posts
across
all
of
our
networks.
We
did
in
the
past
year
and
next
slide.
Please,
post
Impressions
across
networks.
I
thought
that
was
a
I
was
pleased
with
that
number
and
you'll
see
the
definition
of
what
that
that
means
there
underneath.
I
So
we
did
pretty
well
again
with
the
post
reach
across
networks,
so
those
are
people
who
saw
our
posts
on
Facebook,
Facebook
and
Instagram.
I
Post
engagement
rate
was
again,
the
one
to
five
percent
is
considered
good
for
most
social
media
marketing
experts,
so
we
did
really
well
with
that.
I
Our
staff
and
our
students-
people
are
very
kind
to
us
on
social
media.
They
like
seeing
information
about
what's
going
on
inside
the
schools
and
what's
happening
with
our
staff
members,
particularly
those
were
two
of
our
most
popular
posts
this
year,
Instagram
so
we're
off
and
running,
and
that's
where
we're
finding
a
lot
of
our
students
and
families
living,
and
we
will
continue
to
grow
that
number
this
year
it
was.
I
It
was
a
good
start
to
the
first
half
of
the
year,
so
visual
person
that
I
am
this
made
it
very
easy
for
me
to
see
how
we're
doing
on
our
social
media
platforms
Twitter.
We
dipped
some
we're
looking
into
that.
Elon
Musk
may
have
had
something
to
do
with
that.
I
A
lot
of
people
saw
their
their
numbers
change
so
next
slide.
This
is
our
Instagram
and
it
took
off
so
my
my
two
Communications
team
co-workers
are
very
Adept
at
Instagram
and
I
appreciate
them
and
they've
been
great
teaching
me
and
Facebook.
We
continue
to
to
go
up
on
slow
and
steady,
so
our
families
are
finding
us
and
liking
us,
so
we
gained
630
new
Facebook
fans
in
the
past
year.
I
Instagram
there
are
followers
from
scratch
to
249.
I
And
then
we
gain
net
new
followers
on
Twitter
and
we're
continuing
to
explore
other
ways
to
get
our
messaging
out.
Beyond
social
media.
The
newsletter
is
going
to
be
important.
That's
the
image
on
the
bottom
left,
which
will
be
multiple
Pages
and
then
we've
we've
built
some
relationships
in
with
magazines
that
we
had
not
really
worked
on
before
the
newspaper
and
then
our
board
notes
will
continue
to
to
explore
how
to
get
that
information
out
and
the
newsletter
I'm
very
excited
about
there.
I
I
think
that
will
be
a
very
beneficial
tool
for
us
whenever
we
get
that
up
and
running
any
questions.
Yes,
ma'am.
Okay,.
G
I
That
that's
a
good
suggestion.
There
are
some
things
we're
doing
with
students.
Specifically,
we
do
a
weekly
podcast,
the
WNCA
broadcast
for
us
and
a
lot
of
times.
We
just
spoke
with
Rebecca
Hoops
about
winning
the
science
fair,
and
we
want
to
make
sure
that
we're
giving
those
students
opportunities
to
share
the
great
work
that
these
kids
are
doing.
I
I
Know
which
is
Gladys
has
done
some
of
that
for
us,
but
we
need
to
be
better
about
making
sure
we
are
posting
in
multiple
languages.
Yes,
ma'am.
B
B
Okay,
do
we
have
a
motion
to
recess
till
tomorrow's
meeting,
so
they
got
a
motion
a
second.
