Month

exciting
time
around
Chesterfield
and
around
the
United
States,
and
we
thought
it
would
be
a
good
idea
this
year
to
have
somebody
on
the
podcast
to
come
and
talk
about
some
of
the
events
that
are
planned
for
next
month.
Some
of
the
things
that
folks
might
want
to
get
out
and
do
folks
might
want
to
sign
up
for
and
those
kinds
of
things
that
person
is
Kim
Conley.

director
of
Citizen
information
and
resources

month

all
the
different

making
sure
that
all
of
them

planned

go
along
with
that.

obviously
I

This
is
a
very
busy
time
for
folks
in
your
office,
because
it's
not
like
that's
the
only
thing
you
guys
are
doing
right
before
we
get
started.

kind

a

thing
I
like
to
do
on
the
show
where
you
know
whenever
somebody
comes
and
sits
in
the
seat,
I
want
to
give
the
listener,
give

viewer

chance

understand
who
it
is
they're
hearing
from
who,
what
it,
who
you
know,
what
what's
their
background,
what
kind
of
brought
them
here
I'm
just
curious,
what
kind
of
brought

resources

been

I
have
been
I'm
a
native
of
Chesterfield
County
in
addition
to
that,
I
have
worked
for
Chesterfield
County
for
more
than
30
years.
Wow
I
worked
in
the
administrator's
office
for
a
number
of
years
prior
to
a
promotion
and
to
Citizens
information
resources
a
year
and
a
half
ago.
Okay,
so
I'm
excited
Chesapeake
county
is
a
wonderful
place
to
live,
work
and
play
right,
and
we
have
enjoyed
just
the
opportunity
to
be
out
in
the
community
and.

Yeah,
obviously,
for
folks
who
don't
know-
and
let's
like
this-
is
a
good
chance
to
to
talk
a
little
bit
about
what
cir
does
you
know
if
you
went
to,
let's
think
if
you
went
to
an
event
in
Chesterfield,
there's
a
pretty
good
chance
that
Kim
and
her
folks
have
been
involved
in
it.
You
know
whether
it
was
one
of
the
the
many
ribbon
cuttings
and
things
we
did
at
the
end
of
2022
or
I
guess
throughout
2022.,
but
there's
also
a
lot
of
different
things,
especially
Multicultural.

Basically,
engagement
seems
to
be
everything
to
you,
guys
you
know
being
able
to
not
just
engage
the
community,
but
have
the
community
engaged
with
Chesterfield
government
and
I
think
that's
a
perfect
backdrop
to
talk
about
Black,
History
Month,
because,
as
these
events
are
planned
for
the
public
right,
it's
that
engagement,
piece
again
and
obviously
a
topic
that
deserves
as
much
engagement
as
we
can
get
right
in
terms
of
the
events
that
Chesterfield
has
had
over
the
years.
This
is
I
want
to
say
the
35th
year.

would
like

sort
of
get
give
folks
a
feel
of
what
all
goes
into
it.
You
know
when
you
start
planning
for
these
kinds
of
things
when
when
do
these,
things
start
really
lining
up,
because
I
think
for
a
lot
of
people.

it's
you
know
a
lot
of
the
things
you
guys
probably
do
right
ribbon
cuttings,
whatever
you
just
show
up
and
there's
an
event
right,
you
just
show
up,
and
you
know

Williams
is

citizens,
information

We
pride
ourselves
in
educating
our
community
yeah,
advocating
in
the
community
yeah
celebrating
in
our
community
and
we're
excited
about
Black
History
Month
celebration.

team
to
come
together
that
is
comprised
of
Virginia
State
University,
our
Parks
and
Recreation
Department,
our
Library
System.

So
we're
really
excited
about
it.
This
year,
there's
a
number
of
people,
including
the
staff
at
Virginia,
State
University-
that
are
involved
in
playing
this,
but
we
also
bring
Community
where
we
have
a
local
DJ,
DJ
Chuck
Stone.
We
also
have
a
group
of
blind
dancers
that
we
can
break
down
rpk,
so
we
are
really
excited
and
fun,
but
they
also
think
that
we're
going
to
have
we're
going
to
have
a
couple
of
our
local
celebrities.

We
want
people
to
come
out
and
really
enjoy
the
entertainment
piece
and
be
able
to
kick
off
and
talk
about
how
black
history
month
and
what
it
means
to
them,
and
you
know
with
the
type
of
uniting
today
for
a
better
tomorrow.

do
that
and
coming
together
to
collaborate
and
have
discussion
and
just
have
some
fun.

as
we
go
through
these
events,
that
we're
recording
this
a
little
bit
before
on
the
actual
beginning

February.

community

enjoy
hearing
the
story
about
Marcus
Garvey
and
then
how
they
can
engage
and
ask
questions.

been

obviously
somebody

focused

current

sort

standpoint,
the
next
two
are
sort
of
about
history.
Right
there's
life
is
history
at
the
County
Museum
Saturday
February,

11th

noon,
and
then
telling
our
story
and
song
at
the
Chester
Library
on
Thursday
February,
the
16th
from
6
30
to
7
30.,
both
of
those
I
think
are
rooted
in
history
rooted
in
sort
of
the
struggle
rooted
in
sort
of
the
experience
of
African
Americans.

thoroughly
they're
looking
forward
to
life
is
history,
the
speaker

Laura
Joseph,
one
of
the
recipients
of
like
I'm,
just
saying

been
to
I
agree

library

they
creatively
intentionally
thought
about
who
the
speakers

programs
would
be
for
this
Black
History
Month
celebration
this
year.
They
were
very
intentional

folks
who
are
unaware
of
how
this
program
works,
they're
going
to
recognize
six
outstanding,
Chesterfield,
High,
School
seniors
for
their
achievements
and
contributions,
and
basically
these
kids
kind
of
applied.
They
have
a
process
for
how
they
sort
of
can
get
selected
to
be
one
of
these
six,
this
program
can
be
viewed
on
our
Facebook
page,
we'll
be
doing
a
Facebook
live
for.

this
event,

talk

little
bit
about
more
about
this
one
in
depth.
First
off
this
to
me,
it
looks
like
from
the
outside
that
this
is
like
the
biggest
piece
right.
Is
this
you're
bringing
lot
of
different
pieces
together?
You've
got
the
the
piece
of
the
kids
and
what
they
write
about
and
how
they
earn.
You
know
these
these
scholarships
and
then
obviously
the
piece
for
them
to
have.
You
know
to
have
this
opportunity
to
have
those
scholarships
first
off
how
how
did
this
kind
of
come
about?

this
event
for
you-
and
they
have
helped
us
with
this
event,
so
we
have
the
scholarship
program,
but
we
also
then,
as
part
of
that
recognition,
we
award
the
scholarship
recipients.

program
where
we
acknowledge

sponsors,
but
the
scholarship
recipients
also
share
excerpt,
okay
of
their
of
their
essays
right.
So
we
get
to
hear
where
they're
coming
from
how
they're
thinking
and
how
they're
going
to
help
us.

very,
it's
eight
to
ten
on
the
17th,
it's
going
to
be
virtual
for
for
the
public,
but
we
are
really
excited
about
highlighting
and
showcasing
our
recipients,
and
then
we
also
as
a
part

we'll

keynote
speaker,
local
entertainment,
and
it's
just
one
of
those
programs
that
everybody
always
wishes.

black
Excellence
open
mic
night
at
your
Recreation
Center
February,
the
24th

I
really
thought
this
one
was
really
interesting:
the
underground
Underground
Railroad
quilt
codes
for
ages,
6
to
11,
which
is
a
virtual
event
on
Saturday
February,
the
25th
from
two
to
three
I'm,
just
gonna.
Leave
it
open
it
in
for
you
to
talk
any
about
those
that
that
third,
one
I
thought
was
really
interesting.

Just
the
idea
of
being
able
to
look
at
some
of
the
designs
that
were
sort
of
in
those
quilts
and
how
you
know
folks
talk
to
each
other
on
the
railroad
at
the
time.

just
think
that
that's
fascinating
and
I
was
a
little
bummed.

I
saw
it
was
6-11
because
I
can't
you
know,
I'm,
obviously
not
six
to
eleven
but
they'll.
