Description

From Gary De Carolis:

5 words that describe Ellen: Compassionate, Deeply Caring, Energetic, Unselfish, Wise

Ellen was born and lived in New York City, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in psychology. She spent her childhood in an apartment that she shared with parents, Sam and Ida, and her brother, Michael. Many Sundays were spent with her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Ellen's career as an elementary school teacher began in a public school in the South Bronx. She then taught in a day-care center in a low income housing project.

In 1971, Ellen moved to Vermont where she taught in Sharon, Northfield and finally Berlin, Vermont. She received her Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Gifted and Talented Education. After 35 years in the public school classroom, Ellen became the Director of Educator Licensure Programs at the University of Vermont where she worked with aspiring teachers for 15 years. Ellen has two sons, two stepsons, four daughter in laws, and five grandchildren. She lives with her husband Eddie in the New North End of Burlington, Vermont.

After 50 years in the field of education, Ellen recently retired and hopes to travel with her husband and spend more time with family.
