A
A
A
Hi
everybody.
Thank
you
all
for
being
here
today.
My
name
is
Gina
Evans
I'm,
the
director
of
the
develop
a
director
of
development
of
the
Children's
Museum
of
Pittsburgh.
We
really
appreciate
you
all
being
here
today
to
celebrate
talking
about
Maker
Faire
Pittsburgh.
We
are
thrilled
to
be
bringing
Maker
Faire
to
Pittsburgh
between
their
Maker
Faires
happening
all
across
the
world,
but
between
new
york
and
detroit.
There
are
no
Maker.
Faires
Pittsburgh
is
really
on
the
map.
A
As
the
biggest
and
largest
featured
fair,
that's
going
to
be
coming
here
to
Pittsburgh
right
here
in
Nova
place,
Saturday,
October,
10
and
Sunday
october.
Eleventh
we're
just
absolutely
thrilled
to
be
doing
it.
Maker
faire
is
a
huge
celebration
of
interaction
making
creating
building
and
its
really
an
opportunity
for
people
to
get
into
the
hands
on
DIY
maker
movement.
B
Maybe
you
think
about
it.
This
city
is
about
200
years
old
will
be
200
next
year.
I
know
we
only
look
like
150,
but
we
offer
jokes
and
what
created
the
city
was
the
combination
between
innovation
and
building
things.
It
wasn't
steal.
It
was
the
Bessemer
process
that
Andrew
Carnegie
harnessed
in
order
to
be
able
to
create
an
entire
industry
that
would
change
the
world.
It
was
the
air
brake
with
George
Westinghouse
in
the
innovation
behind
it,
in
the
ability
to
make
it.
B
When
you
think
about
cities
that
are
leading
the
World
of
Tomorrow,
they
come
in
all
different
ranges
of
large
cities
on
a
global
scale
and
small,
innovative
centers
that
are
being
built
in
towns
with
research
around
it.
But
what
makes
Pittsburgh
unique
is
unlike
Silicon,
Valley
or
other
places.
We
not
only
can
dream
it.
B
What
Pittsburgh
really
is
in
a
21st
century
way,
and
this
building
behind
us
Nova
is
being
repurposed
into
a
center
of
innovation
for
entrepreneurs
and
those
that
want
to
be
able
to
create
something
new
to
gather
together
and
where
that
energy
gets
harnessed.
What
better
place
to
have
this
maker
faire
then
the
place?
That's
redefining
Pittsburgh,
it's
my
honor
to
introduce
Jeremy
Leventhal,
someone
who
saw
that
opportunity
and
seized
upon
it
and
now
we'll
be
able
to
share
it
with
over
250
entrepreneurs
in
the
next
month.
Jeremy.
C
C
So
we're
really
excited
about
that
and
it
couldn't
be
more
fitting
that
this
first
event
at
Nova
place
is
Maker
Faire,
an
event
known
for
creativity,
artistic
expression,
ingenuity
things
we
fully
embrace
and
hope
to
foster
here
at
Noble
place,
I'd
like
to
like
to
thank
a
few
people
for
putting
this
whole
thing
together
and
I'd
like
to
thank
everyone.
That's
been
involved,
organized
sponsored
supported
this
great
event.
C
A
So
we're
really
thrilled
that
you're
all
here
today,
because
you
have
the
opportunity
to
check
out
some
of
the
exhibitors
that
are
going
to
be
at
maker
faire.
There
are
going
to
be
250,
distinct
makers
that
are
going
to
be
showing
off
the
things
that
they've
been
creating
and
some
of
them
are
here
today.
We've
got
really
amazing
things
for
you
to
check
out
from
the
real
biotics
folks
who
are
launching
tennis
balls
with
a
homemade
maker,
piston
firing
gun
that
actually
can
shoot.
Cupcakes
I
wish
they
had
cupcakes
right
now.
A
I
would
have
them
shoot
me
one,
but
I
really
wanted
to
thank
everybody
again
for
being
here:
Thank
You,
mayor
Peduto.
Thank
you
so
much
Jeremy
thank
you
to
our
sponsors,
again,
I'm,
actually
thrilled
that
we've
got
so
much
support
both
from
the
maker
community.
That
is
all
around
us
here
today
from
the
sponsor
community
and
from
folks
like
assemble
and
hack
Pittsburgh,
who
are
really
great
partners
in
all
of
this.
So
I
wanted
to
take
a
moment
now
to
introduce
Leon
Wainwright
from
Chevron
one
of
our
presenting
sponsors.
A
D
Good
morning
my
name
is
Leanne
Wainwright
I
am
here
today
is
the
stem
coordinating
leader
for
our
social
stem
investments
and
for
Chevron's
Appalachian
Michigan
business
unit.
It's
my
honor
to
be
with
you
here
today
and
thank
Gina
in
the
mayor
for
bringing
this
opportunity
here
to
the
city
of
Pittsburgh.
Chevron
has
major
made
a
major
commitment
to
investing
in
STEM
education
throughout
the
United
States,
but
more
specifically,
here
in
this
region,
last
October
we
announced
the
formation
of
the
Appalachian
partnership
initiative
with
benedum
foundation,
the
Allegheny
conference
in
rand
corporation.
D
This
initiative
was
established
with
the
objective
of
helping
develop
a
capable
and
highly
skilled
regional
workforce
in
part,
through
the
support
of
quality
stem
programs,
like
the
maker
faire
that
you
will
see
in
October
and
many
other
programs
that
Gina
in
the
children's
museum
present
every
day.
We
value
our
partnership
with
the
children's
museum
and
we
commend
their
efforts
and
leadership
for
providing
STEM
education
opportunities
for
the
community
as
a
whole.
So
I
want
to
give
them
a
round
of
applause
for
all
the
hard
work.
D
Have
you
ever
watched
the
science
channels
how
it's
made
I
did
recently
and
I
just
saw
one
on
NASCAR,
stop
cars
and
I
thought
it
was
pretty
awesome
how
just
a
little
bit
of
ingenuity
imagination
and
putting
it
together
with
machines.
What
can
happen?
I'm,
not
saying
that
there's
going
to
be
a
stock
car,
although
I'm
learning
there
might
be
multiple
stock
cars
here,
the
Maker
Faire,
but
I
can
guarantee
you
that
there
will
be
something
just
as
innovative
here
better.
D
This
idea
prototyping,
like
you'll,
see
if
you
look
around
here
after
the
press
conference,
they
allow
people
to
explore
the
entire
engineering
design
process
and
an
authentic
and
real
world
context.
I,
don't
know
about
you,
but
I'm
excited
for
the
maker
faire
in
October.
I'm
excited
that
Chevron's
a
part
of
it
and
I'm.
Thank
you
for
letting
us
be
a
part
of
the
stem
equation,
I'm
honored,
to
be
one
of
the
presenting
sponsors
and,
on
behalf
behalf
of
Chevron.
Thank
you
for
letting
us
be
here.
E
At
the
gravel
foundation
were
honored
and
humbled
to
join
with
the
city,
with
Pharos,
with
Chevron
and
all
of
the
other
partners
that
are
building
this
incredible
event.
For
the
city
of
Pittsburgh,
we've
proudly
worked
with
the
children
museum
for
decades,
and
particularly
during
the
past
decade,
in
remaking
learning,
the
children's
museum
has
been
at
the
cornerstone
of
helping
this
region
reimagine
learning
in
and
out
of
school.
E
We
have
more
than
a
hundred
maker
spaces
in
our
region,
schools,
museums,
libraries
and
out-of-school
spaces,
places
where
young
and
older
children
are
imagining
tinkering
thinking
about
their
futures
in
incredible
ways
that
are
igniting
their
passions
to
learn,
which
is
what
this
maker
faire
presents
for
all
of
us,
a
chance
to
reimagine
this
future
and
continue
the
incredible
trajectory
under
the
leadership
of
the
mayor
that
we
are
all
witnessing
and
experiencing
in
this
region.
So
we
look
forward
to
seeing
the
young
hands
and
the
older
hands
alike,
imagining
our
future
together
and
again.
E
A
Thank
you
so
much
Greg
and
thank
you
LeAnn,
and
so
one
of
the
things
that
is
happening
here
is
that
we
as
iam
since
2011,
have
really
been
working
because
of
the
support
of
partners
like
the
grayble
foundation
all
around
making.
So
we
have
our
own
permanent
makerspace
at
the
museum
called
make
shop
and
through
make
shop,
we've
been
really
discovering
a
lot.
We've
been
discovering
a
lot
about,
learning,
knew
that
was
gonna
happen
and
what
it
means
both
for
the
very
young
child.
A
Thank
you
so
much
Jeremy
what
it
means
for
the
very
young
child
all
the
way
to
the
adult
I
myself
have
never
thought
of
myself
as
a
maker,
but
I
am,
and
we
all
are
and
that's
what
maker
faire
is
all
about,
so
we're
helping
and
really
inviting
all
of
you
to
join
us
at
maker
faire
Pittsburgh.
We
want
10,000
people
to
come
on
down
and
check
out
what's
happening
here
at
Nova
place.
We've
got
two
days
full
of
activities,
performances
workshops,
hands-on
things
that
you
can
really
check
out
and
get
your
hands
dirty.
A
It's
going
to
be
wonderful
and
we
really
want
you
to
be
a
part
of
it.
We
need
volunteers,
we
need
people
to
come
on
down
and
help
us
set
this
stuff
up.
So
please
visit
Maker,
Faire,
Pittsburgh
calm,
you
can
buy
tickets
there.
You
can
learn
all
about
what's
happening
and
you
can
become
a
part
of
really
the
future
of
Pittsburgh
by
being
a
part
of
Maker
Faire
Pittsburgh.
So
thank
you
all
for
being
here,
we're
absolutely
thrilled.
The
thing
that
I
want
to
do
now
is
go
and
check
out
all
of
these
makers.
