A
Good
morning,
everyone
thanks
for
being
here,
we're
here
to
pay
tribute
and
recognize
this
year's
learning
their
own
Summer
Youth
Employment
Program
a
huge
thanks
to
to
the
mayor
for
all
of
his
effort
to
get
the
program
kind
of
expanded
beyond
what
it
was
last
year,
specifically
we're
giving
some
recognition
to
a
piloted
program.
We
had
this
year,
the
dollar
wise
dollar
bank
financial
literacy
program.
It
was
a
grant
that
the
city
received
through
the
US
Conference
of
Mayors.
We
had
some
of
our
partnering
agencies.
A
Jessica
Jacobs
from
neighborhood
Learning
Alliance,
will
just
give
a
presentation
in
a
minute
talk
a
little
bit
very
successful.
We
had
financial
literacy
and
ambassadors,
and
one
of
the
youth
that
participated
in
the
program
completed
the
necessary
modules
in
the
the
web
portal
and
she's
a
recipient
of
a
reward
through
through
that
through
that
department,
we
had
some
partners
this
year
that
helped
us
to
do
what
we
did
to
serve
nearly
2,000
youth
city
and
county.
So
special
thanks
to
County
exec,
rich
Fitzgerald
and
the
folks
at
the
three
words
Workforce
Investment
Board.
A
B
So
neighborhood
learning
lights
had
the
joy
of
having
105
youth
this
summer
in
the
learn
and
iron
Summer
Youth
Employment
Program
placed
about
25
different
work
sites
across
the
city
downtown
summer
camps.
Specifically,
we
had
a
wide
variety
of
reading
warriors
summer
dreamer
camps,
some
in
the
city,
public
or
city
offices
and
then
other
places
around
the
city.
Savannah
was
placed
at
one
of
our
summer
dreamer,
camps
at
camp,
south
hills
and
she
was
fantastic
the
summer.
She
got
a
perfect
progress
report
at
the
end
and
she
really
worked
hard.
C
D
Savannah,
congratulations!
So
you
know
this
program
started
up.
Several
years
ago
we
had
less
than
200
youth
involved
in
it
a
lot
of
the
jobs
that
they
had
involved,
cutting
grass
or
painting
a
fence,
and
the
next
year
we
doubled
it
in
size.
But
even
though
we
had
400
kids
that
were
a
part
of
our
summer
program,
we
had
1200
that
applied,
so
we
were
basically
saying
no
to
more
kids
than
we
were
saying
yesterday.
D
So
we
decided
in
really
this
office
without
any
financing
behind
it,
we're
going
to
offer
every
Pittsburgh
kid
that
wants
an
opportunity
to
have
a
summer
job
and
an
opportunity
to
learn.
Given
that
opportunity
we
partnered
with
the
county,
and
this
year
we
had
two
thousand
and
it
were
great
programs.
D
B
D
One
group
went
to
our
shelters
and
found
our
homeless
children
and
they
taught
them
how
to
do
computer
programming
to
set
up
websites,
and
then
they
brought
in
a
coach
then
entrepreneur
to
teach
them
how
to
market
it
to
small
businesses
so
that
they
would
not
only
make
money
this
summer,
but
make
money
for
a
lifetime.
But
what
you
did
and
what
your
program
did
is
once
you
receive
the
check,
taught
you
how
to
be
responsible
with
it
and
because
of
the
work
you've
done
in
order
to
hit
all
of
the
goals
of
financial
literacy.
D
Of
being
able
to
understand
how
to
open
your
own
checking
account
about
how
to
be
able
to
save
for
things
on
a
long-term
basis
about
when
it's
appropriate,
to
borrow
of
how
he
should
borrow
of
understanding
all
the
responsible
parts
of
financial
literacy.
I
am
proud
to
give
you
this
certificate
of
achievement.
D
Out
of
the
two
thousand
youth
that
participated,
Savannah
pen
has
participated
in
learning
earn
in
the
dollar
wise
summer.
Youth
employment
campaign,
Thank
You,
US
Conference
of
Mayors.
She
has
successfully
completed
the
dollar
of
wise
online
assessment
and
financial
literacy
and
has
one
let's
say,
has
earned
an
ipad
mini
courtesy
of
dollar
wise
dollar
bank
in
the
US
Conference
of
Mayors.
On
behalf
of
myself,
William
Peduto,
mayor
of
the
city
of
Pittsburgh,
congratulations.
