Bill
number
703
resolution
authorizing
the
mayor
and
director
of
the
department
of
city
planning,
on
behalf
of
the
city,
to
hereby
name
the
previously
unnamed
multi-module
trail
in
highland
park
to
cattail
trail.
A
Great
thank
you
very
much,
madam
clerk.
Today
we
are
joined
by
andrew
dash,
who
is
our
director
of
city
planning,
to
make
a
brief
praising
presentation
before
we
go
into
registered
speakers
and
comment
from
council
members,
so
director
dash,
you
have
the
floor.
C
All
right,
thank
you.
Councilman.
These
two
applications
for
namings
of
trails
in
the
city
of
pittsburgh
were
ones
that
were
heard
by
the
naming
commission
on
public
properties,
so
the
department
of
city
planning,
as
you
know,
staff
to
that
commission
is
bringing
forth
both
of
these
applications
as
legislation.
C
The
first
one
is
the
naming
of
a
trail
and
a
presently
unnamed
trail
in
south
side
park
as
the
keeling
coal
trail.
This
is
a
trail
application
that
was
put
forth
by
the
friends
of
southside
park.
This
was
in
conjunction
with
work
that
the
city
had
done
with
the
friends
of
southside
park
for
a
master
plan
for
the
65-acre
community
scale
park
that
we
have
at
southside
park.
This
is
a
900,
approximately
900
foot,
long
trail
that
did
not
have
it.
C
That
did
not
have
a
name
prior.
You
know
in
you
know.
The
south
side,
friends
of
southside
park,
had
chosen
keeling
coal
trail
because
of
the
role
that
the
keeling
company
had
played
in
the
historical
you
know
kind
of
industrial
routes
of
what
is
now
known
as
southside
park
and
wanted
to
reflect
that
history
in
the
name
that
they
proposed
for
the
trail.
This
did
go
to
the
naming
commission.
The
naming
commission
unanimously
recommended
approval
to
city
council
of
the
naming
of
that
unnamed
trail
as
the
keeling
coal
trail.
C
It
goes
through
highland
park
and
does
connect
the
the
the
oval
the
cycle
track
in
highland
park
along
washington,
boulevard
to
the
negly
run
boulevard
bike
lanes
this.
You
know
this
application
was
brought
to
us
by
the
department
of
mobility
and
infrastructure
who
has
been
managing
the
construction
of
this
path.
C
You
know
trying
to
use
the
naming
convention
for
much
of
the
rest
of
the
trails
in
highland
park,
which
do
really
you
know
kind
of
focus
on
local
plant
features
on
other.
You
know
on
other
landscape
features
in
the
park.
That
was
the
you
know,
kind
of
impetus
for
the
proposal
of
the
naming
of
that
trail
as
the
cattail
trail
then,
and
that
did
go
to
the
naming
commission.
C
The
naming
commission
similarly
made
a
recommendation
unanimously
to
name
that
trail
as
the
cap
shell
trail
and
refer
that
to
city
council.
D
A
A
Okay,
so
I
would
like
to
enter
one
letter
into
the
record.
It
was
submitted
to
us
by
janice
sierra
who
is
a
member
of
the
friends
of
southside
park,
and
I
would
like
to
read
it
so
as
to
make
a
part
of
the
record.
It
says
dear
councilman
krauss,
as
a
resident
of
the
south
side
community
and
on
behalf
of
many
other
community
members
and
organizations.
A
A
We
hope
to
install
an
historic,
interpretive
sign
in
the
park
describing
what
was
known
as
the
coal
road.
Your
support
and
that
of
city
council
for
naming
of
the
keeling
cold
trail
would
be
greatly
appreciated
and
that
is
signed,
janice,
sierra,
and
so,
if
we
could
metaphorically
enter
that
into
the
record,
and
I
may
just
yes,
I
do
have
one
more
letter.
If
I'm
able
to
actually
see
this
to
read,
it
came
from
jeff,
newmeier,
newmar
and
kitty
vaguely
dear
bruce.
A
We
seek
your
support
for
the
friends
of
southside
park,
request
for
approval
of
the
trail
name
healing
coal
trail
in
the
park.
This
name
is
for
a
presently
unnamed
trail
that
actually
touches
upon
an
area
where,
once
the
keeling
coal
railroad
brought
coal
through
the
park
to
the
river,
it
also
reminds
users
of
an
important
industrial
past,
mr
keeling
used
to
own
a
great
deal
of
property
along
josephine
street
and
also
along
21st
street.
He
seems
to
have
been
very
much
a
presence
in
the
south
side
of
long
ago.
A
If
you
could,
please
advocate
for
this
approval
of
the
trail
name,
we
would
be
most
appreciative
and,
of
course,
to
sign
kitty
and
jeff,
and
they
too
are
friends
of
the
south
side
park
so
or
part
of
the
friends
of
sansei
park.
So
with
that,
that
is
the
information
I
would
like
to
enter
into
the
record
as
it
applies
to
the
keeling
cold
trail.
Councilwoman
gross
I'd
be
happy
to
offer
the
floor
to
you.
E
Thank
you
appreciate
it.
I'm
certainly
supportive
of
that
project
in
your
district.
Congratulations,
I'm
happy
for
you.
E
Similarly,
my
district
is
very
supportive
of
being
able
to
reach
destinations
off
roads
either
safely
by
you
know,
by
foot
or
by
bike,
and
I
can
tell
you
that
what
we
have
to
do
for
my
house
in
highland
park,
which
is
of
course
the
neighborhood
elevation,
is
above
the
washington
boulevard
elevation
where
the
cycle
track
is
and
both
my
kids
could
have
practiced
their
bicycle
riding
or
learned
to
ride
a
bike
on
that
cycle
track.
E
You
have
to
load
everybody
else
in
a
car
and
drive
down
there
to
get
down
there
safely
and
then
drive
around
the
cycle
track.
So
I'm
sure
there
will
be
a
lot
of
people
from
east
liberty,
friendship,
bloomfield,
you're
in
point
breeze,
neighborhood
everybody
can
kind
of
get
to
the
top
of
negli
run
and
now
there's
a
safe
bike
track
on
nigley
run
and
then
you'll
be
able
to
turn
safely
and
reach
the
bicycle
track
down
there
on
washington,
boulevard
too.
So
we
look.
A
Thanks
councilwoman,
madam
clerk,
has
any
other
members
joined
us
that
I
might
not
be
aware
of
no
sir
okay.
So
with
that,
I
believe
we
conclude
the
business
of
this
public
hearing
unless
councilwoman
anything
further.
On
your
end,
no
thank
you.
Okay,.
A
To
see
you
too,
may
I
then
have
a
motion
to
approve
this
public
hearing
or
adjourn
this
public
hearing.
