A
Hello,
I'm
councilman,
reverend
ricky
purchase.
Pittsburgh
is
becoming
a
city
for
all,
because
black
pittsburgh
matters,
our
city,
has
reformed
its
police
practices.
Over
the
last
10
years.
We
have
significantly
reduced
crime
and
homicides
by
using
a
three-pronged
approach:
better
training,
better
technology
and
better
transparency
in
training.
Our
city
was
selected
to
be
in
the
first
group
of
the
u.s
justice
department's
national
initiative
for
building
community
trust
and
justice.
A
The
initiative
consists
of
officer
training
to
recognize
implicit
bias,
departmental
policy
changes
to
ensure
just
treatment
at
all
times,
and
community
engagement
designed
to
repair
and
strengthen
police
community
relationships
through
racial
reconciliation.
We
implement
the
maryland
lethality
assessment
model
with
all
police
officers
to
prevent
domestic
related
violence
and
homicides.
A
In
technology
we
have
expanded,
shotspotter,
acoustical,
gunshot
detection
system.
That
alerts
us
to
active
gunfires
we've
increased
cameras
in
neighborhoods
police
cars
and
on
police
officers
themselves
to
ensure
accountability
in
transparency,
we
placed
our
police
standard,
operating
procedures
online
and
expanded
the
police
department's
annual
report.
Finally,
we
have
prioritized
community
meetings
and
community
partnerships,
especially
in
black
communities,
become
a
partner
in
the
black
pittsburgh
matters.
Initiative
follow
us
on
our
facebook
page
watch,

hall
meetings
and
policy
videos
and

in
our
community
forums.
A
Join
me,
councilman,
lavelle
and
mayor
peduto,
in
empowering
black
people
and
black
communities
by
working
together,
united
in
purpose,
we
can
transform
our
city
strengthen
it
for
all
of
its
residents.
Pittsburgh
is
becoming
a
city
for
all
by
being
a
city
where
black
pittsburgh
matters.
Thank
you,
stay
safe
and
be.
