A
Hello
there,
my
name
is
justia
gilliam
and
I
am
the
special
initiatives
coordinator
in
the
mayor's
office
and
we're
really
excited
about
learning
this
year
and
we've
about
to
highlight
some
of
the
amazing
community
partners
that
are
going
to
be
working
with
kids
throughout
the
experience
this
summer,
and
I
have
a
special
privilege
of
talking
with
walter
lewis
today,
we're
gonna
hear
about
some
of
the
things
that
are
gonna
be
happening
through
the
homewood
children's
village.
Walter.
Thank
you
for
joining
us.
B
Sure
thing
so,
first,
thank
you
for
having
me
josiah.
My
name
is
walter
lewis,
I'm
the
president,
ceo
of
homewood
children's
village,
and
you
know
the
village.
You
know
it's
really
about
creating
a
comprehensive
effort
to
try
to
support
young
people
and
families
in
our
community
really
from
cradle
to
career,
and
so
you
know
we're
interested
in
anything
that
impacts
the
the
healthy
development
of
young
people.
So
we
work
in
schools.
You
know
we
support
students
on
their
post-secondary
journeys.
We
support
families,
we
think
about
housing
environment.
B
Just
all
of
the
things
that
impact
children's
development-
and
you
know
bringing
us
to
this
topic
of
learner.
You
know,
workforce
and
preparing
for
the
workforce
of
tomorrow
is
a
really
critical
piece
of
helping
young
people
develop
in
very
healthy
and
meaningful
ways.
So
again,
we're
excited
to
work
on
learning
and
excited
to
be
having
this
conversation
today.
B
A
You
guys
have
worked
with
learner
for
several
years
now.
What's
looking
like
this
year,
summer
of
2022.
B
Yeah,
so
we're
going
to
be
supporting
up
to
125
young
people
will
see
where,
where
the
number
actually
lands
based
on
the
number
of
folks
that
actually
sign
up,
but
we'll
support
up
to
125
young
people
this
summer
across
25
or
so
work
sites,
we've
still
got
a
couple
worksites
sending
in
those
final
worksite
agreements,
but
you
know
I'm
excited.
You
know.
B
B
Yeah,
so
I'm
really
excited
one
of
our
long-standing
partners
for
learner
and
just
in
general,
is
bible
center
church
and
so
working.
A
B
Them
they
have
a
multitude
of
opportunities,
so
I'm
happy
everyday
cafe
will
place
a
couple
students
there,
where
they're
able
to
you
know,
work
inside
the
cafe.
Get
that
experience.
We
also
have
some
students
that
will
be
placed
in
their
farm
and
fisheries.
So
learning
about
how
do
you
grow
the
food
and
produce
the
items
that
you
then
sell
in
something
like
the
everyday
cafe
and
then
there'll
be
another
group
of
young
people
supporting
their
green
steam
and
play
summer
camp?
And
so
you
know
working
on
that
youth
development.
Skill
set.
B
You
know
young
people
that
may
want
to
become
future
educators.
You
know
whether
it
be
early
childhood
or
you
know,
going
into
schools
or
out
of
school
time
as
well,
so
just
great
opportunities
for
youth
to
begin
to
learn
and
test
out
certain
things.
Additionally,
we're
going
to
be
working
with
just
another
organization,
draft
and
dreams:
we've
worked
with
for
a
number
of
years.
They
do
amazing
work
in
terms
of
preparing
young
people
as
architects.
B
You
know
we,
it's
just
been
amazing
work
and
we've
had
a
number
of
young
people
who
started
there
and
have
been
excited
and
have
eventually
gone
off
to
college
and
pursued
architectural
engineering
and
things
of
that
nature,
just
because
of
the
kind
of
work
that
they
did
in
the
summer.
So
it's
it's
really
great
skill
building
work
that
sets
young
people
up
for
success.
A
Hpv
is
known
for
their
partnerships
for
sure,
but
you're
also
very
focused
on
tech
over
the
years
and
introducing
young
people
to
that.
Any
experiences
for
the
young
people,
where
they're
gonna
get
to
get
a
hands-on
experience
with
some
of
your
tech
work.
B
Yeah,
so
two
two
experiences
come
to
mind
that
we're
looking
at
kind
of
internally
one
is
around
game
design.
So
we've
been
teaching
young
people
about
game
design
for
a
number
of.
B
Them
to
sort
of
build
their
own
games,
learning
about
the
development
process,
getting
them
introduced
to
coding,
and
things
of
that
nature,
so
that'll
be
happening
again
this
summer
and
then
also
I'm
really
excited
to
share
that
heb
is
in
the
middle
of
his
own
app
development
project
for
a
tool
called
smart
dreams
to
really
support
young
people
in
figuring
out
what
they
want
to
do
with
their
life
after
high
school.
And
then
how
do
you
actually
achieve
that
goal?
We'll
actually
have
that
as
a
work
site
this
summer.
B
A
B
Yeah,
I
think
the
first
thing
for
worksites
is
to
remember
that
we're
still
talking
about
kids
right,
they're,
young
people
and
for
many
of
them
this
is
their
first
job
experience,
and
so
we
have
to
really
treat
it
as
a
development
opportunity.
You
know
if
you're,
just
looking
for
extra
hands
to
do
stuff
learner
may
not
always
be
the
best.
You
know
program
for
you,
but
if
you're
interested
in
developing
young
people
right,
then
learning
is
really
right
for
you,
because
our
kids
and
their
granted
they're
talented,
and
they
can
do
lots
of
things.
A
Absolutely
and
then
finally,
you
know
if
you're
speaking
directly
to
young
people,
you
know
how
can
they
make
the
most
of
this
six
week
experience
you
know
if
they
can
make
up
to
thirteen
hundred
dollars.
That's
great.
We
wanna
see
them
hit
that
mark
get
every
last
dollar
about
1300..
How
can
they
really
get
as
much
value
out
of
this
experience
as
possible.
B
Yeah
I
mean,
I
think
I
miss
a
great
question.
I
mean
I
think,
I'm
always
one
of
those
people
that
you
know
life
is,
is
kind
of
what
you
make
it
in
a
lot
of
ways
like
you
know
you
kind
of
dealt
a
set
of
cards,
but
you
have
to
play
them
right,
and
so
I
think
about
the
summer
like
that
it
doesn't
matter
what
worksite
you
place,
that
there's
always
value
that
you
can
get
out
of
your
summer
experience.
B
Yes,
the
the
money
is
is
one
piece
of
it
right,
because
that's
a
lot
of
money
for
a
young
person,
especially
if
you've
never
had
a
job
before.
But
beyond
that,
I
always
talk
to
young
people
about
the
transferable
skills
that
you
do
right.
So,
yes,
you're
learning
about
exploring
a
particular
career
path.
Right,
so
do
I
want
to
go
into
medicine.
B
You
know
it's
the
most
important
thing
that
you
do
and
and
so
identifying
what
are
those
skills
that
I'm
developing
here
and
and
what
are
those
skills
that
will
transfer
to
any
other
job
that
I
get
into.
So
you
think
about
things
like
communication
right,
your
professionalism,
you
know
being
on
time.
B
How
do
you
engage
with
different
folks
in
your
your
organization,
teamwork,
those
kinds
of
things
and
then
some
of
the
more
specific
skills
like
if
you're
working
in
the
architecture
site
right
the
problem
solving
right
that
you
might,
you
know,
get
into
on
a
drafts
and
dream
site,
that's
going
to
be
applicable
even
if
you're
not
designing,
building
schematics
for
your
next
job
opportunity
right,
and
so
it's
really
honing
in
on
those
types
of
skills
and
making
sure
that
you
you
develop
them
and
you
take
it
seriously
because
it
really
is
what
you
make
it.
B
I've
seen
young
people
go
through
this
program
and
really
set
themselves
up
for
a
while
success
when
they
finish
because,
like
one
of
our
interns,
actually
supported
the
draft
and
dream
site,
he
was
a
high
school
senior,
but
he
was
supporting
the
draft
and
james
work
site
he's
now
in
college.
You
know
he's
in
clemson
now
and
he's
in
an
architecture
program
right
because
of
stuff
that
we
did
in
our
summer
learning
program.
