From YouTube: Guy Costa - Mayor Peduto's Reddit AMA July 17, 2014
Description
Mayor Peduto held his first ever Reddit AMA as Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh. Staff and Department heads shared their thoughts with us in between answer questions from City residents. In this clip, Guy Costa, Chief Operations Officer discusses parks, streets, and infrastructure.
A
And
that
means
everyday
citizen,
I
oversee
the
operations
of
the
city,
oversee
the
public
works
department,
our
Parks
and
Recreation
Department.
Also,
the
special
events
we
have
in
a
city
of
Pittsburgh,
along
with
to
authorities
Pittsburgh
parking
authority
which
isn't
responsible
for
on
and
off
street
parking
right,
the
city
of
Pittsburgh,
as
well
as
its
part,
water
and
sewer,
throwing
which
is
responsible
for
the
water
and
sewage
in
December.
A
A
Is
you
know
we
know
we
have
a
lot
of
responsibility?
We
know
we
don't
have
the
resources
to
do
everything
gets
done,
so
what
we
have
to
do
is
prioritizing
no
matter
what
we
do
in
this
business.
We're
not
going
to
make
everyone
happy,
and
it's
just
way
reality
is,
but
we
work
very
hard
and
become
more
efficient,
providing
more
effective
services
to
this
residents
and
businesses
of
the
city
of
Pittsburgh.
So
again,
I
think
with
the
current
administration,
we
have
a
bright
future
ahead
of
us.
We've
made
some.
A
A
We
got
a
mayor,
he
gets
out
there
quite
a
bit.
He
has
staff
chiefs
like
myself
and
directors
that
get
out
there
and
work.
We
hired
a
lot
of
good
workers,
some
there's
a
lot
of
people
that
are
overqualified
for
the
work
that
they
do
and
it's
good
because
they
love
what
they
do
and
we're
glad
to
have
him
on
four.
So
we
have
a
very
good
team.
It's
amazing,
a
team
that
the
mayor
is
put
together.
A
I've
never
been
on
a
team
like
this
before,
but
it's
a
really
good
team
and
everyone
is
gets
along.
It
understands
what
they
have
to
do,
and
you
know
we
have
good
goals
and-
and
we
try
to
be
not
afraid
to
make
changes.
A
lot
of
people
were
trained
for
fraid
of
making
changes
where
we're
not.
You
know
we're
new
administration
and
where
we
see
changes
are
needed
for
the
better.
We
will
make
those
changes
and
a
lot
of
it
is
the
employees.
A
B
A
In
we
are
in
the
department's,
I
have
responsible
for
there's
data,
but
it's
not
properly
put
together
or
it's
on
paper.
We
need
to
get
more
things
online,
so
we
did
hire
someone
and
I
recently
in
each
department.
Is
we're
going
to
be
required
to
bring
us
into
the
21st
century
with
high-tech
systems,
gps
systems,
data,
providing
systems,
evaluation
systems?
You
know
you
name
it
that
we're
going
to
take
a
look
at
it
and
bring
it
in
and
make
everyone's
life
a
lot
easier.
A
We
also
want
to
have
it
set
up
so
that
you
know
right
now.
If
you
go
look
for
some
data,
you
have
to
go
through
pages
and
pages.
We
want
to
be
able
to
go
in
computer
and
be
able
to
come
up
on
one
screen
and
look
at
it,
and
we
also
need
to
close
some
loops.
We
have
processes
in
city
government
through
the
permitting
permitting
process,
for
example,.
B
A
B
A
It
does
both
I
mean
the
be
a
people
driven
service.
You
need
to
have
information
to
see
where
your
weaknesses
are
and
where
you
can
strengthen
it.
So
the
more
information
you
have
you
can
restructure
and
you
know
your
deployment
of
your
resources.
Based
on
that
information.
The
other
thing
is
they
have
that
information
available
in
the
city
of
Pittsburgh
and
anywhere
else.
You
have
people
that
feel
that
they're
not
getting
the
proper
service.
By
having
that
data
we
can
say.
A
Well,
we
did
this,
we've
done
that
and
then
people
say
well
I
didn't
realize
you
did
all
that.
So
what
we're
trying
to
do
is
have
the
backup
data
to
respond
back
to
those
who
are
saying
we're
not
doing
our
job.
So
then
I'll
use
example,
snow
removal,
you
know
now
we'll
get
calls
saying.
No,
you
know
you
have
a
pile,
my
street
in
three
weeks
yeah.
Well,
we
would
have
the
data
with
the
GPS
distance
a
while
we've
been
there
and
such
as
such
a
seven-day.
A
The
plow
was
dropped
and
so
forth,
because
what
happens
a
lot
of
people
in
they
call
and
complain
about
the
streets
not
being
done.
They
don't
go
out
and
they
don't
realize
a
plow
truck
came
by
and
I
left
one
inch
of
snow
behind,
because
the
plow
doesn't
how
their
bounce
and
a
bare
surface,
because
it
will
burn
on
its
place
so
at
least
a
little
coating
of
snow
on
there.
And
then
you
drop
some
salt,
but
salt
doesn't
work
when
it's
less
than
17
degrees.
A
Came
by
so
we
want
to
be
able
to
do
a
couple
of
things
with
that
is
to
let
people
know
yeah
when
we
came
by
or
have
them
go
online
to
see
when
we
came
by
or
if
we
didn't
hit
their
street
one
will
be
hitting
their
street.
So
again,
it's
very
very
important.
We
have
the
backup
information,
a
data
for
us
do
two
things
to
show
that
we
did
what
we
were
supposed
to
do
and
then
it
also
shows
if
we
didn't
do
what
we
were
supposed
to
do.
A
So
amazing,
is
it's
really
incredible:
it's
nuts
really
I'm,
really
proud
of
the
city.
I'm
very
fortunate!
I
lived
around
my
life.
I
went
to
school
here
and
you
know
half
my
family
had
to
move
away
for
jobs.
I
was
very
fortunate
to
stay
here
and
it's
great
to
see.
What's
happened
in
the
past
number
of
years,
I
grew
up
in
East,
Liberty
and
alarma
Avenue
area
and
see
what's
going
on
and
he's
slow
he's
incredible
alarm
we're
having
to
them.
Through
the
mayor.
We
got
a
30
million
dollar
grant
about
new
housing
there.
A
B
A
And
they're
making
a
comeback.
So
it's
very
exciting.
It's
very
exciting,
to
see
a
lot
of
young
people
here,
see
more
and
more
young
people,
more
families
moving
into
the
city
and
it's
kind
of
a
very
exciting
time
when
we're
very
lucky
and
I'm
very
lucky
to
be
part
of
the
the
sakura
administration-
and
you
know
we're
all
here
to
work
together
to
achieve
the
goals
to
make
it
a
better
City
and.
B
A
Are
my
mom
is
a
lot
differently,
a
lot
of
times
anyone
to
get
involved
with
government?
You
know,
there's
always
that
negative.
It
is
amiss
or
so
governments,
government
officials,
but
you
know
we
have
a
good
working
administration,
we're
honest
we're
going
to
do
the
best
job
we
can
and
we're
going
to
make
mistakes
like
anywhere
else
should
be
getting
your
point.
A
lot
of
people
are
interested
me
look
right
here.
We
got
hundreds
of
people
sending
emails,
asking
questions
and
we
have
the
mayor's
night
out.
It's
like.
We
had
our
first
meeting.
A
Like
we
had
no
idea,
many
people
were
to
show
up.
No
racist,
we'll
just
have
people
come
up.
One
at
a
time
will
give
four
minutes.
Well,
if
we'd
had
done
that
based
on
memory,
we
still
be
there.
So
then
we
had
to
make
it
an
open
discussion,
because
you
didn't
know
what
to
expect
and
people
came
out
to
have
very
good
questions.
We
have
the
mayor's
night
in
then,
and
that's
kind
of
exciting
to
people
have
the
opportunity
to
come
in
the
mayor's
office
and
talk
to
the
mayor.
A
One
well
check
really
one-on-one
with
us
there
in
the
background
to
answer
any
questions
they
have
and
I,
don't
I,
don't
think
anyone's
ever
had
that
experience
before.
So
we
are
finding
ways
to
reach
out
to
the
residents
and
folks
and
and
answer
their
questions.
A
lot
of
good
questions
are
out
there
and
things
that
we
may
have
not
thought
about
before
now.
Something
to
think
about
so
I
got
a
big
to-do
list
to
start
working
on
tomorrow,
cool.
B
A
Holy
yes
track.
Is
there
ok.
B
A
Know
why
there's
so
much
going
on
right
now,
it's
hard
to
just
pick
one
specific
project.
A
good
good
thing
right
now
is
we're
making
changes
with
the
department's
restructuring
them
so
they're
more
efficient.
We
got
some
new
people
on
board.
We
got
a
lot
of
projects
out
there.
A
lot
of
things
that
we
have
to
do
is
finish
up
projects
that
were
start
started
under
previous
administration
when
they
were
finished.
Pretty
much
things
came
to
a
standstill
last
year,.
