From YouTube: #TBT: 2004 Spotlight on Bureau of Telecommunications
Description
Welcome to City Channel Pittsburgh's Throwback Thursday series! We will upload a new episode each Thursday morning.
This week, we're going back to 2004. It's spotlight on City Channel Pittsburgh, its staff, and the work they do. Hey, that's us!!!!
A
B
Of
telecommunications,
as
we
know
what
today
was
established
in
2000,
but
its
roots
date
way
back
into
the
early
1980s
when
it
was
no
more
the
view
of
cable
communications.
Today,
the
bureau's
telecommunications
encompasses
not
only
City
Channel
Pittsburgh,
which
you're
watching
now,
but
also
a
regulatory
outfit
that
inspects
the
public
rights-of-way
for
telecommunications
companies
and
also
administers
our
cable
communications
franchise.
This
program
that
you'll
be
watching
today
is
primarily
about
City,
Channel,
Pittsburgh
I.
B
A
C
The
production
side,
as
far
as
doing
City
Council
first
thing:
we
do,
we
take
the
cameras
down.
We
check
out
the
cables,
make
every
make
sure
that
everything
is
connected.
Just
right,
we
turn
the
lights
on.
We
make
sure
that
the
lights
are
aimed
right.
We
have
good
area
coverage,
so
we
can
set.
The
people
can
concede
the
the
councilmembers
we
check
the
audio.
We
make
sure
that
everything
is
clear
and
clean.
We
do
a
test
record
to
make
sure
that
everything
is
just
right.
We.
D
E
It
really
would
surprise
people
as
to
how
much
work
from
either
a
technical
standpoint
or
a
producing
standpoint
or
writing
or
editing
sound
lighting
everything
it
takes
a
tremendous
amount
of
time
just
to
get
one
minute
of
final
production
and
I
think
most
people
would
be
unbelievably
amazed
as
to
how
much
work
goes
in
to
doing
the
final
product.
But
again,
that's
that's
a
tribute
to
the
professionalism,
experience
of
the
staff
rate.
Here
we
make
things,
look
easy
when
it's
not
by.
A
B
I
believe
that,
as
is
the
case
of
Public
Television,
the
residents
of
Pittsburg
watched
City
channel
Pittsburgh,
they
get
commercial
free,
unvarnished
information
straight
from
the
source.
They
get
it
without
filters.
They
get
it
without
often
without
commentary,
and
they
get
it
in
a
way
that
allows
them
to
see
for
themselves
and
to
think
for
themselves
and
to
decide
for
themselves.
The.
F
A
C
Provide
a
wealth
of
information,
training
for
Police,
Fire,
EMS,
Public,
Works
engineering
and
construction.
We
do
information
as
far
as
filing
taxes,
which
is
beneficial
to
the
finance
department,
real
estate
division.
We
advertise
the
houses
that
are
up
for
sale
by
the
city,
so
I
mean
we
do.
We
cover
a
wide
gamut
and
we
provide
a
lot
of
information
that
or
nearly
you
can't
get
on
commercial
television.
Now.
E
For
the
employees,
I
think
we've
been
a
very
vital
conduit
for
them
in
multiple
ways,
especially
for
the
public
safety.
One
thing
you
can't
do
is
put
a
price
on
training
and
we
have
produced
a
vast
amount
of
training
for
a
lot
of
different
departments.
Here,
especially,
we
came
to
new
equip
and
we've
been
acknowledged
many
times
from
police
fire
and
paramedics
for
that
type
of
program
we
produced
it's
been
very
vital
to
them.
Also.
D
We
work
here
as
a
team,
so
I
have
the
opportunity
to
make
suggestions
to
be
heard
to
travel
a
lot
through
the
city
see
some
places
and
events
that
many
other
people
didn't
have
opportunity
to
see
didn't
have
chance
to
see
one
day
it
could
be
freezing
crane
on
the
Mount
Washington
other
day
it
could
be
Phipps,
Conservancy
or
triathlon
or
polish
skill
churches.
So
a
lot
of
stuff
to
see
a
lot
of
new
events
to
enjoy
I
think.
E
Our
Bureau
up
here
is
probably
one
of
the
best-kept
secrets,
even
though
a
lot
of
people
know
about
us
I,
just
don't
think
they
understand
the
people,
the
experience,
the
professionalism
that
makes
everything
work
the
way
it
does.
They
I
think
they
get
a
very
big
bang
for
the
buck
for
the
amount
of
work
they
get
out
of
this
department.
