From YouTube: #TBT: 2006 Mayor Bob O'Connor Inauguration
Description
Welcome to City Channel Pittsburgh's Throwback Thursday series! We will upload a new episode each Thursday morning.
This week, we're going back to 2006. We covered Mayor Bob O'Connor's inauguration ceremony on the front steps of the City-County Building.
A
A
And
one
of
the
things
that
is
clear
and
one
of
the
things
that
make
Pittsburgh
great
is
the
love
that
they
all
have
and
have
served
this
city
with.
My
name
is
Larry
Richard
I'm,
the
host
of
the
ktk
Radio
Morning
News.
Thank
you
and
I
want
to
say
thank
you
mr.
O'connor,
for
the
honor
of
being
your
emcee
today,
I
wouldn't
want
to
be
anywhere
else.
B
B
B
B
C
Our
prayer
today
is
reflective
of
the
ecumenical
and
interfaith
accomplishments
of
this
community,
which
are
reflected
in
the
many
organizations
such
as
Christian
associates.
The
Christian
leaders
fellowship
the
religious
Leadership
Forum
involving
Jewish
Christian
and
Muslim
religious
leadership,
and
our
prayer
that
we
together
will
make
is
that
Bob
O'connor
will
continue
to
provide
the
leadership
he
has
shown
in
bringing
people
together
in
sustaining
the
bridges
of
human
relationships
and
of
forging
new
ways
in
which
we
can
all
build
up
this
wonderful
city
of
Pittsburgh,
reflecting
her
many
diverse
and
great
people.
C
Let
us
pray
gracious
God.
We
are
called
by
your
spirit
to
be
a
community
of
people
from
all
walks
of
life
professions
and
backgrounds.
We
share
common
aspirations
for
our
city
and
its
citizens.
We
come
from
differing
traditions
and
beginnings
with
various
national
and
ethnic
origins,
a
rich
multitude
of
traditions,
and
we
worship
you
in
different
ways.
Yet
we
share
a
common
longing
for
peace,
justice,
tranquility,
mutual
respect
and
even
affection.
C
We
ask
you,
keep
him
strong
in
his
commitment
of
the
service
of
this
community
bless
him
for
all.
He
does
to
bring
together
the
many
traditions
in
this
city
so
that
working
together,
we
may
keep
Pittsburgh
someplace
special,
give
him
the
spirit
of
wisdom
and
understanding
the
spirit
of
right
judgement
and
courage,
the
spirit
of
knowledge
and
compassion
and
may
all
his
efforts
begin
with
and
continue
in
the
best
interests,
the
citizens
of
this
city
and
be
brought
to
successful
completion.
A
Thank
You
bishop
remain
standing
for
just
a
moment.
Longer
please,
for
our
Pledge
of
Allegiance
we'd
like
to
welcome
representatives

Ladies
and

your

of

A
E
E
Well,
it
is
a
pleasure
to
be
here.
It
is
a
pleasure
to
be
here,
and
people
are
always
asking
me
the
difference
between
Pittsburgh
and
Philadelphia,
and
one
of
the
big
differences
is.
You
are
rougher
and
a
hardy
er
folk.
We
would
never
have
an
inauguration
in
the
first
week
in
January
outside,
but
we
all
got
pretty
lucky
didn't
we
well.
E
It
is
a
special
privilege
for
me,
I've
known
Bob,
for
a
long
time
like
you,
I
have
watched
him
love
this
city
care
about
this
city.
Nurture
this
city,
I've
watched
him
accumulate
knowledge
about
every
single
square
block
in
the
city
of
Pittsburgh
and
I
always
believed
that
his
time
would
come
his
time
to
leave.
I
always
believed
it,
because
Bob
had
a
dedication
and
a
perseverance
and
a
focus
second
to
none.
E
I
said
that
dan
Onorato
swear
it
in
two
years
ago
that
I
have
a
benefit
over
all
of
you,
I
see
Pittsburgh
from
an
outsider's
eyes,
and
sometimes
it
takes
an
outsider
to
see
all
of
the
good
things
you
have.
The
things
that
you
take
for
granted
on
a
day
to
day
basis,
I've
seen
what
occurred
in
the
last
10
or
15
years.
The
changes
that
were
so
positive
I
saw
the
development
on
the
north
side
and
the
south
side
that
was
bustling.
E
I
saw
the
potential
for
Oakland
to
be
one
of
the
great
high
tech
centers
in
not
only
Pennsylvania,
but
in
the
United
States
of
America
I
saw
the
strength
of
the
people
in
your
neighborhoods
and
I
knew
that
if
we
could
meet
our
challenges,
we
were
going
to
get
there.
So
dan
adhirata
went
to
work
and
the
county
has
been
a
great
help
to
the
city
of
Pittsburgh
and
as
I
pledged
you
when
I
ran
for
governor,
we
have
been
the
state
of
Pennsylvania
a
help
to
the
city
of
Pittsburgh.
E
He's
willing
to
do
whatever
it
takes
to
make
Pittsburgh
great
again.
We've
set
the
table,
and
now
with
a
strong
leader,
the
best
is
yet
to
come
so
to
Bob
and
his
family.
Congratulations
on
what
has
been
a
long,
difficult
pursuit
to
reach
your
goal.
This
must
be
a
wonderful
day
for
Bob
O'connor,
a
wonderful
day
to
reach
a
goal.
He
has
fought
for
so
hard
and
so
long
and
to
the
city
of
Pittsburgh.
E
F
F
H
Thank
you
all
very
much
and
I
I
can't
worse,
can't
describe
how
honored
and
humbled
very
very
humbled
bloody,
I
jet
very,
very
proud
to
be
your
mayor
of
the
city
of
Pittsburgh
there's.
So
many
people
to
thank
I
almost
don't
know
where
to
start.
But
I
want
to
thank
all
my
friends
in
business
and
labor
who
supported
me
so
much
during
this
campaign
and
over
the
years
the
elected
officials,
I
I,
believe
not
only
City
Council,
County
Council,
the
state
representatives
all
supported
me
and
I'd
really
look
forward
to
working
with
all
of
them.
H
My
friends,
neighbors
they've,
been
with
me
forever
soon.
As
the
first
time
I
said,
I
wanted
to
run
for
office,
everyone
said:
do
it
I,
don't
know
if
they
knew
I
could
win,
but
they
said
go.
Do
it
my
Delta
team
where's,
the
Delta
team
at
all,
Mike
these
guys
and
get
ladies,
were
out
every
day
rain
or
shine
door-knocking
working
hard.
Getting
our
message
shot.
H
H
H
H
Again,
like
Pittsburgh,
this
is
going
to
be
one
big,
happy
family,
but
I
want
to
it
reintroduce
my
family
to
you,
I'm,
probably
the
luckiest
guy
in
America.
When
you
see
my
kids
and
my
family
I
want
to
introduce
my
daughter,
hi
inner
son,
rich,
their
son
I'm,
not
I'm.
Sorry,
my
son-in-law
rich
I,
but
about
my
three
beautiful
granddaughters,
where
you
guys
at
Kennedy
come
on
up,
say
hello.
H
H
My
son
was
having
a
mass
in
our
neighborhood,
so
I
went
over
9
o'clock
to
church
and
how
many
people
didn't
get
sworn
into
office,
so
many
people
and
go
to
work
anything
before
they
go,
go
to
church
and
have
their
son
say
the
mass
and
give
you
a
communion.
You
talk
about
a
lucky
guy.
This
is
father,
Terry
O'connor,.
H
H
Know
her
father,
Joe
I,
want
to
say
hello
to
her
father,
Joe
Kline,
my
father
law,
just
as
recovering
he
couldn't
he
wanted
to
leave
the
hospital,
be
honest
with
you,
but
they
said.
No,
it's
you
better
stay
home,
but
I
want
to
thank
him
and
all
of
your
support.
As
the
governor
said,
Pittsburgh
has
many
many
challenges.
The
financial
situation
is
not
fixed.
H
H
Let
me
put
it
this
way
if
you're
a
family
and
you
have
$100
whether
that's
your
daily
weekly
budget,
half
of
that
money
is
going
to
pension
debt
service,
hospitalization,
half
of
every
dollar
$50
out
of
that
hundred
is
locked
in
the
other.
30
dollars
goes
to
public
safety,
which
we
need
police,
fire
and
paramedics.
H
So
that
leaves
us
as
a
family,
to
run
this
city,
to
fix
the
streets,
to
plow
the
snow,
to
cut
the
grass
to
turn
the
streetlights
on
to
do
all
the
work
that
has
to
be
done
to
manage
this
city.
We
only
have
$20
left,
so
we
do
need
help.
It's
a
renew
Pittsburgh.
Our
first
order
of
business
is
to
restore
financial
security
to
Pittsburgh.
We
must
continue
Great
War
efficiencies
in
government,
I
bring
my
business
background
and
I
promise
you
to
be
more
efficient
to
work
together.
H
We
still
looking
at
streamlining
government,
but
we
need
revenues.
We
just
can't
cut
our
way
out
of
that
I'm
glad
to
hear
the
governor
say,
he's
still
supporting.
He
is
supporting
us
and
we'll
continue
to
do
that.
We
don't
have
a
budget,
yet
406
I
promise
to
work
with
City
Council
ak47,
the
Oversight
Committee
this
month
to
have
a
budget
in
place
not
only
for
this
year,
but
a
five-year
plan
that
we
can
work
toward
to
solve
our
financial
problems
to
renew
Pittsburgh.
We
have
to
build
bridges.
As
the
bishop
said.
H
Probably
my
greatest
talent
is
working
with
people.
We
want
to
build
bridges
with
a
governor,
R
and
L
on
our
state.
Reps
I
see
Jim
Furillo,
Jack
Wagner,
there's
many
of
you
out
there.
We
have
to
build
those
bridges,
and
this
governor
cares
about
Pittsburgh.
He
cares
about
people
I
work
with
him
hands
on
for
two
years.
Some
people
say:
well,
you
only
worry
about
Philadelphia.
No,
no,
he
cares
about
Pittsburgh
and
he's
been
helping
us
and
we
look
forward
to
working
with
the
governor
and
the
state,
legislators
and
Senators
to
help
solve
our
problems.
H
H
H
Get
the
applause
out
of
the
way,
because
you're
going
to
hear
his
name
a
lot
we
meet
together,
we're
committed
to
solving
Pittsburgh
and
Alleghenies
problems.
Together,
we
are
going
to
work
together,
I
see
mark
Roosevelt,
our
new
school
superintendent,
without
good
schools,
no
city
will
survive
and
we
want
to
work
with
him.
H
And
last
but
not
least,
the
most
important
bridge
we'll
build
into
our
neighborhoods
we're
going
to
build
bridges
root
for
this
mayor's
office
to
each
and
every
one
of
the
88
neighborhoods
of
the
city
of
Pittsburgh.
You're,
going
to
see
me
out
every
afternoon
or
morning
visiting
these
communities
I'm
a
hands-on
guy,
we're
going
to
make
sure
everyone
is
working
together.
H
We
want
to
professionalize
to
renew
Pittsburgh
I
pledge
to
professionalize
city
government,
hire
the
best
available
people,
and
also
we
have
a
lot
of
good
people
that
work
in
this
city.
Now
we're
going
to
train
and
motivate
them
to
even
be
better.
You
know
when
I
was
elected
over
on
the
website
and
asked
for
volunteers
to
be
on
the
boards
and
authorities
and
to
get
involved
with
Pittsburgh
1,300
people
sent
their
resumes
in
and
we
spent
the
last
three
weeks
interviewing
those
people.
Now
this
is
a
journey.
H
We
can't
interview
1,300
people
and
fill
38
boards
and
commissions
that
we
want
to
start
some
new
ones
then,
and
I
want
to
do
a
women's
Commission
I
want
to
start
a
Youth
Commission.
So
this
is
a
journey
we're
all
going
to
work
together
to
strive
to
do
renewing
Pittsburgh
means
sharing
services
sharing
services
with
Akane.
We
pay
city
and
county
taxes.
Together,
we
want
to
work
together.
Dan
and
I
are
going
to
work
together
on
a
day-to-day
basis,
and
it's
not
just
about
saving
money.
H
I
could
go
over
a
laundry
list
that
he
and
I
have
talked
about
how
to
work,
work
together
and
save
money,
but
it's
about
delivering
a
better
quality,
better
service
to
the
people
of
Pittsburgh,
in
Allegheny,
County,
and
also
working
together.
No
one,
no
one
in
a
family
can
be
happy
if
someone
isn't
working.
I
am
committed
to
renewing
our
economic
development
package.
I
want
to
get
serious
about
economic
development.
I
want
to
get
serious
about
creating
jobs.
H
H
Couple
goals:
this
Forbes
I'm
committed
to
finalize
the
fifth
Forbes
situation:
the
mayor's
been
working
so
hard
for
I'm
going
to
have
that
under
wraps
and
done
by
the
South
this
summer.
This
year
we
will
have
that
committed
and
on
its
way,
also
I
want
to.
We
need
a
safe
community.
I
want
to
redo
the
police
force.
Yeah
I
feel
it's
top-heavy.
We
want
to
make
sure
everyone
gets
out
of
the
office
and
into
the
street,
and
you
know
you're
police
officers
we're
going
to
make
this.
H
But
I
can't
I
can't
do
it
alone
and
actually
the
governor
had
a
good
point.
It
takes
sometimes
outsiders
to
see
what
good
things
we
have
in
Pittsburgh
here
and
you
know
I'm
a
Pittsburgh
er.
You
know
that
right,
it's
all
over
my
face,
I
go
places.
People
say
you
still
got
a
Pittsburgh
accent,
so
I
feel
comfortable
talking
to
you,
because
when
I
talk
to
you
I'm
looking
in
the
mirror
I'm
talking
to
myself,
you
know
we
need
to
start
believing
in
ourselves
that
we're
gonna
turn
this
city
around.
H
You
know
we
can't
just
be
happy
on
Monday
mornings.
When
the
Steelers
win,
you
know,
we've
got
to
get
over
it.
The
Steelers
won.
Let's
be
happy,
we
started
the
year.
We
are
good.
We
have
to
believe
in
ourselves
and
I'll
just
give
you
a
couple
of
things
that
maybe
you
don't
realize
just
where
we're
standing
now.
What's
going
on
in
Pittsburgh,
just
a
few
blocks,
the
Lasser
is
building,
it's
been
a
problem
for
the
last
couple
years:
jack
pie,
it
just
bought
that
and
is
making
it
condos
commercial
office
space.
H
That's
a
great
facility,
200
yards
up.
Pnc
is
going
a
major
new
building
new
office
building
apartment
living
everything
now
we're
talking
about
no
matter.
What
is
new
here
is
the
apartment
downtown
living
people
want
to
live
in
our
community.
People
live
in
urban
settings,
but
probably
the
first
side
is
being
done.
How
many
apartments
have
you
sold
so
far
and
a
friend
of
mine
went
over
and
every
time
he
goes
there,
he
says
they
sold
the
one
I
wanted,
so
people
are
starting
to
move
downtown.
They
see
it
coming.
Probably.
H
H
We
had
a
groundbreaking
the
governor's
here
on
Southside
with
the
mayor
and
Dan
American
Eagle
just
brought
500
new
jobs,
mostly
young
people,
to
Southside.
Do
you
know
why
they
came
to
Pittsburgh
because
they
had
a
vote
among
their
employees
where
they
want
it
to
be
just
where
they
picked
Southside
they
want
to
be
in
Pittsburgh.
Google
is
coming
from
San
Francisco.
You
know
why
they're
coming
it's
right
here
in
the
headline.
Google
comes
because
local
talent
likes
it
here.
People
want
to
be
here.
We
have
51,000
college
students,
they
like
Pittsburgh.
H
We
our
challenges
to
keep
some
of
them
here
now
my
friend
are
you're,
starting
to
believe,
maybe
we're
on
second
base.
Let
me
see
your
heads
we're
on
second
base
we're
Raby
Ronning
to
turn
the
positive
Pittsburghers
say:
yeah
we're
rounding
second
base.
Just
let
me
tell
you
what's
going
to
happen
in
six
months
from
now
this
summer
the
All
Stars
team
is
coming
to
Pittsburgh
Major
League
Baseball's
ringing
off
to
our
game
to
Pittsburgh
the
eyes
of
the
world,
especially
the
country,
are
gonna,
be
watching
Pittsburgh.
You
know
what
I
like
to
see
done.
H
You
know
when,
when
my
mother
said
and
if
you're
a
Pittsburgh's,
you
know
what
I'm
talking
about
when
you
have
company
coming
over
the
bishop
of
the
bishop,
never
came,
I
didn't
know
the
bishop
there,
but
whoever
dignitary
or
somebody's
having
a
bath
tubs
or
whatever
in
your
house.
Would
you
do
you
read
up?
Let's
write
up,
we
have
company
coming
all
right.
H
Let's
write
up
Pittsburgh,
let's
get
ready
for
that
all-star
game,
not
just
Don
Todd,
let's
think
every
neighborhood
and
again
working
with
Dan
we're
not
talking
about
just
Bloomfield
and
its
Squirrel
Hill.
When
North
Side
about
my
Lebanon
Monroeville
we're
all
one
community.
We
all
support
the
Steelers
in
two
parts:
let's
clean
up,
Pittsburgh
and
shove,
our
pride
again
right
after
that,
actually
right
between
that
I
hope,
which
is
really
going
to
create
a
lot
of
enthusiasm
and
a
lot
of
jobs.
Here
is
our
slot
machines
and
slots
common
governor
all
right.
H
Trust
me
they'll,
be
here:
let's
get
up
here,
you're
gonna!
This
is
going
to
be
the
biggest
area
for
that
I
tell
you,
people
in
Pittsburgh
love
those
love
machines
and
that
one
year
from
now
we
have
the
US
Open
coming
don't
want
again.
The
eyes
of
the
world
are
gonna,
be
watching
Pittsburgh,
US,
Open
and
guess
what
happens
three
years
from
now?
H
If
you
don't
know,
it'll
be
our
250th
birthday
of
Pittsburgh,
we'll
be
celebrating
our
200th
anniversary,
there's
a
lot
to
look
forward
to
or
you're
starting
to
believe
in
Pittsburgh.
Again
all
right
are
you
sure
we
have
a
lot
of
work
to
do
today
we
begin
a
new.
Our
agenda
is
dedicated
to
renewing
Pittsburgh.
Thank
you
all
so
much
and
let's
go
to
work.
