From YouTube: Aiken This Week - July 6, 2015 : Jenny Burghardt
Description
Aiken This Week welcomes Jenny Burghardt, Tourism Supervisor for the City of Aiken.
A
B
A
B
Well,
I
have
been
an
ache
in
about
five
years
now
so
I'm,
not
an
aching
original,
but
absolutely
love
it.
So
really,
I
was,
I
was
been
doing.
Marketing
for
the
past
few
years,
have
a
lot
of
experience
with
marketing,
but
was
in
a
totally
different
sector.
I
was
doing
healthcare
marketing,
but
this
job
came
available
and
I
had
a
friend
who
knew
Elizabeth.
Who
was
in
this
position
before
so
she
called
and
said
you
need
to
apply.
You
would
love
it.
B
A
One
of
the
hardest
things
you're
going
to
have
to
do
is
you're
gonna
have
to
decide
what
do
I
market
there's
so
much
that's
going
on
in
aiken.
So
what
have
you
found
in
aiken
that
you
really
love,
especially
from
a
marketing
standpoint?
What
are
the
events
and
the
history
and
those
kind
of
things
if
you're,
looking
forward
to
marketing
right.
B
That
is,
that
is
the
fun
part
about
the
job
tues.
Is
there
so
much
I'm
not
going
to
get
bored,
but
I
think
what
I
love
most
about
akin
is
it's
so
unique.
You
know,
there's
there's
nowhere
else.
That's
like
akin.
It
were
a
smaller
South,
Carolina
town,
but
it
definitely
doesn't
feel
that
way
with
the
events
and
the
things
that
Aiken
puts
on
its
all
world-class
events.
B
You
know:
where
else
do
they
have
Juilliard
come
down
for
a
week
and
and
go
to
the
schools
and
put
on
shows
and
do
things
like
that?
You
know
we
also
have
the
largest
urban
park
in
America
with
Hitchcock
woods
and
have
the
oldest
continuous
drag
hunt
that
goes
on
in
the
Hitchcock
woods.
We
have
polo,
you
know,
I.
Think
Whitney
field
is
the
oldest
continuously
used
polo
field
in
America,
and
so
there's
so
much
that
Aiken
has.
That
makes
it
so
unique.
B
There's
lots
of
events
that
have
been
going
on
for
four
years
and
years
and
years
that
are
just
continuing
to
grow,
but
then
there's
also
new
events
and
new
things
that
are
happening.
You
know
just
a
few
weeks
ago
was
the
first
annual
Hopsin
hogs
festival,
and
that
was
a
great
turnout.
So
many
people
came
to
that
event
and
and
there's
a
new
film
festival
that
will
be
starting
this
year
called
southern
city
film
festival
in
November.
B
Yes,
absolutely
absolutely,
and
you
know
I
think
he
told
me:
they've
already
got
submissions
from
22
different
countries,
different
films,
you
know,
so
you
know
that's
going
to
be
another
new,
exciting
event
that
Aiken
has
so
I
think
the
way
Aiken
has
really
partnered
with
with
the
history
and
and
continuing
to
do
these
things
that
have
worked
a
year
after
year
after
year,
while
still
letting
new
things
come
in
and
and
the
way
our
community
really
embraces.
All
of
those
things
makes
it
really
exciting,
really
fun
to
get
to
promote
and
things.
A
B
I
think
you
know,
the
most
exciting
thing
is
is
just
learning
you
know
the
different
groups,
learning
the
different
people
figuring
out.
What
already
is
going
on
and
and
how
I
can
how
I
can
help
them?
You
know
I'm
still
getting
around
to
meet
all
of
the
different
hotel
years,
and
our
goal,
of
course,
is
to
see
them
full.
You
know
week
after
week
after
week,
but
yeah
masters
was
was
a
very
exciting
week.
B
We've
just
started
the
farmers
market
in
the
alley,
and
so
that's
a
very
exciting
for
me
and
to
get
to
know
those
farmers
you
know
so
many
other
events,
the
the
festival,
the
horse
festival
in
the
woods
happened
right
after
I
started.
So
there's
been
a
lot
of
things
that
I've
gotten
to
be
a
part
of
since
I
started.
Better
exciting
events,
I'm.
A
B
B
You
know
looking
into
all
of
the
options,
and
so
we
want
to
make
make
sure
we're
meeting
people
where
they
are
we're
getting
an
interactive
kiosk
at
the
Visitor
Center
we're
in
the
process
of
developing
that
and
some
different
technology
we're
continuously
working
on
our
our
social
media
accounts.
You
know
we
have
visit
aiken,
SC,
facebook,
instagram
and
twitter,
and
so
we
want
to
continue
to
see
that
grow
and
those
are
definitely
things
that
are
interactive,
and
you
know
just
in
the
past
three
months.
B
Somebody
else
has
reshared
that
article
about
akin
to
a
whole
different
realm
of
people,
and
so
you
know,
some
goals
are
to
continuously
see
that
grow
to
continuously
see
aiken,
get
in
the
spotlight
and
really
build
the
image
that
we
want
akin
to
have
to
to
invite
younger
people
to
show
people
who
we
are
to
really
get
our
name
out
there.
I
guess.
A
You
had
all
your
friends
go,
join
the
instagram
account
or
the
twitter
account
that
it's
got
the
numbers
up.
Speaking
of
the
websites,
it's
very
important
I
think
that
you
change
those
periodically.
They
have
a
fresh
face
and
their
constant,
that's
something.
You
said
you're
working
on
now
any
ideas
of
when
we
can
expect
to
see
a
new
look
for
the
website.
B
A
B
Right,
well
definitely
on
our
website
as
well.
If
you
haven't
been
to
the
visit
aiken
SC
website,
we
have
a
wonderful
calendar
which
shows
all
of
the
events
that
are
going
on
all
of
the
time
and
and
with
that
we
invite
our
partners.
We
invite
you
know
local
organizations
to
put
their
events
on.
They
can
actually
go
on
and
upload
them
themselves
and
we
approve
them
or
they
can
email
me
or
Marian
and
they'll
get
that
on
there.
So
that's
that's
huge.
B
B
We
actually
hosted
a
group
of
travel
writers
a
few
weeks
ago
where
there
were
there
are
eight
different
writers
from
different
regional
magazines
who
came
to
Aiken
for
a
weekend,
and
we
got
to
show
them
the
best
that
a
kid
has
to
offer,
and
from
that
you
know,
we've
already
secured
nine
different
stories
that
will
be
published
in
various
magazines
over
the
next
year.
I
had
one
of
the
writers
actually
emailed
me
yesterday
and
she
said
from
from
the
pictures
that
I
put
up
on
on
facebook
when
we
were
there.
B
B
So
how
fun
is
that
we
of
course
also
have
different
different
ads
that
we
do
currently
we
have
online
kind
of
video
campaign
going
on
in
the
charleston
charlotte
and
savannah
markets,
so
really
trying
to
to
show
through
video.
We
can
really
show
a
lot
more
of
Aiken
and
so
there's
some
some
of
that
going
on
right.
Now
we
have
billboards
up
kind
of
in
the
Atlanta
area.
Currently,
so
we
really
use
all
methods
to
get
the
word
out
about
Aiken
and
to.
A
B
Absolutely
well
I
love
the
farmers
market
right
now
we
have
the
farmers
market
on
williamsburg
street,
it's
115
williamsburg
and
that's
our
permanent
structure,
and
so
that
happens
six
days
a
week,
but
the
busiest
times
being
Saturday
mornings,
Tuesday
mornings
and
thursday
mornings
and
so
I
think
last
Saturday
we
had
40.
We
had
almost
40
vendors
there
and
it's
typically
from
eight
to
twelve
I
encourage
people
to
get
there
early,
because
some
farmers
sell
out
TMO.
B
They
have
a
set
number
of
crops
that
they're
selling
and
when
it's
gone,
it's
gone,
but
we're
we're
always
doing
different
things
up
at
the
market
as
well.
I
know
the
master
gardeners
come
the
first
and
third
saturdays
of
every
month
on
the
twenty-seventh
will
have
a
soul
and
R&B
singer
they're
from
Nashville.
So
we're
really
really
trying
to
engage
people
and
get
a
new
crowd
out
to
that
market
as
well.
But
you
have
produce
you
have
you
know
meats
and
cheeses?
All
you
know
local
a
lot
of
it.
B
You
know
grass-fed
beef
and
that
sort
of
thing
we
also
have
some
crafts
and
plants
homemade
cheeses,
and
so
it's
a
lot
of
really
fun
different
things
at
the
market,
and
it's
also
spread
to
our
Thursday
night
market
and
say
Thursday
night
market
is
in
the
alley
and
that's
a
partnership
with
downtown
development
and
the
city.
And
so
we
really
love
that
event,
because
it's
a
very
vibrant
event
being
being
in
the
alley
and-
and
it
draws
a
different
group
of
people
as
well,
but
a
lot
of
the
same
vendors
are
there.
B
We
have
live
music
every
week.
The
Wilcox
is
there
with
a
food
truck,
and
you
know
the
Chop
House
has
some
some
food
there
on
the
street
that
people
can
can
eat,
and
so
that's
from
five
to
seven
thirty.
So
a
different
time
that
may
work
better
for
different
people
to
come
down
pick
up
what
they
need
and
have
a
good
time
while
they're
out
downtown
and
some
of
the
shops
stay
open
later
plum
pudding
has
a
booth
out
there,
as
well,
so
on
some
of
their
things.
So
it's
a
it's
a
neat
environment
that.
A
B
A
B
B
So
it
really
serves,
you
know
a
few
different
purposes,
but
they
all
kind
of
go
hand
in
hand.
It's
the
visitor
center
in
train
museum
and
so
the
visitor
center
aspect
of
it
is.
We
really
rely
on
some
wonderful
volunteers
who
love
akin
enough
that
they
would
come.
You
know,
give
up
their
time
on
a
weekly
basis
to
be
there
to
greet
people
as
they
come
in,
and
you
know
somebody
comes
in
says:
I
want
to
see
this,
give
me
some
ideas
and
they
point
them
in
the
right
direction.
B
They
help
out
in
so
many
different
ways.
We
have
you
no
information
on
so
many
of
the
attractions
that
Aiken
has
to
offer
there
and
really
want
to
serve,
as
that
start
off
point
for
people
who
are
coming
to
akin
to
figure
out
what
to
do,
and
then
it's
also
serves
as
the
trade
museum
and
the
building
it's
in
was
modeled
after
the
train
depot.
B
The
way
it
looked
in
1899
it's
on
the
exact
same
spot
where
the
old
train
depot
was,
and
so
it's
a
replica
of
that
and
then,
if
you
go
upstairs
at
the
depot
there,
you
see
some
dioramas,
some
very
interactive
dioramas
that
showed
their
route
from
Charleston
to
Hamburg,
which
is
now
you
know,
North
Augusta,
which
Aiken
was,
of
course
part
of
that
railroad.
And
so
you
see
each
little
tail
and
then
and,
like
I,
said
it's
very
interactive.
It's
fun
for
kids,
a
lot
of
kids
came
up
there.
B
We
have
a
little
scavenger
hunt,
they
can
look
for
things
in
the
different
dioramas
and
in
just
a
great
piece
of
history.
We
also
host
it.
The
the
train
depot
is
used
for
events,
and
so
people
can
actually
rent
the
facility
for
special
events.
Typically
after
hours.
You
know
in
the
evenings
and
and
it's
a
perfect
location
for
that
as
well.
It's
beautiful
the
dinner
and
blanc
was
there
this
past
year
and
really
it
was
a
perfect
location
for
that.
B
B
Exciting
I
just
got
done,
building
that
I
guess
about
a
month
ago,
and
so
with
that
you
know
that
just
more
people
can
can
come
use
it
for
events
and
also
there's
two
Pullman
cars
that
are
at
the
depot
as
well,
that
are
will
be
renovated
in
the
long
term
kind
of
process,
and
so
it's
a
great
viewing
place
for
those
Pullman
cars.
I.
Think.
A
A
B
And
we
offer
tours
that
start
at
the
Visitor
Center
every
saturday
at
ten
a.m.
and
then
our
wonderful
they're,
taken
on
the
trolley.
My
parents
were
until
this
past
weekend,
so
I
took
them
on
the
trolley
tour
and
it's
the
third
time
I've
been
but
I
learned
something
new
every
time
and
the
tour
guides
just
know
Aiken
very
well
and
love
Aiken,
and
so
it's
not
just
a
look
here.
You'll
see
this
look
there
you'll
see
this.
B
It's
well
did
you
know
who
lived
here
and
let
me
tell
you
this
story,
and
so
it's
a
great
it's
a
great
tour
you
get
to
get
off.
Most
of
it
is
on
the
trolley
in
your
hearing
the
history
along
the
way,
but
you
do
get
off
at
hopefully
gardens,
and
so
you
get
to
walk
through
the
gardens.
You
get
to
go
to
the
thoroughbred
hall
of
fame
and
explore
that
on
your
own
and
with
some
some
stories
along
the
way.
But
it's
it's
a
two-hour
tour
departing
from
the
visitor
center.
B
It's
$15
a
person
and
if
you
want
to
go,
you
just
need
to
call
the
visitor
center
and
make
a
reservation
and
they'll
get
you
set
up.
It
can
also
be
reserved
if
you
have
a
large
group
and
a
lot
of
school
groups
as
well.
We'll
reserve
it
for
a
private
tour
at
a
different
time
throughout
the
week
and
that's
something
we're
happy
to
do
as
well.
I.
B
A
Okay
right,
on
top
a
headache
we'll
put
that,
for
you
will
put
that
on
the
show.
People
will
know
that
if,
if
folks
want
to
partner
with
the
city
to
do
events
and
do
things
like
that,
how
does
that
work?
How
does
someone
get
with
you
to
partner
on
different
events,
and
so
that
you
can
help
promote
them,
and
they
can
do
an
event
here
in
town
right.
B
Like
I
said,
we're
always
happy
to
to
partner
with
with
different
groups,
and-
and
they
can
certainly
give
me
a
call
email
me
reach
out
to
me.
We
work
with
groups
like
Aiken,
Performing,
Arts
Juilliard
and
the
Bluegrass
Festival,
and
some
of
the
ways
we
partner
are
through
you
know,
promoting
events
on
our
website
on
our
social
media
at
the
Visitor
Center,
we're
happy
to
put
any
information
out
there
for
people
there.
B
You
know
the
parks,
maintenance,
crews,
it's
probably
a
part
of
every
event
that
goes
on
in
Aiken,
and
they
do
such
a
great
job
with
you
know,
bringing
bleachers
or
providing
trash
cans,
or
you
know
so
many
different
things
that
you
wouldn't
even
think
of
that
they're,
a
part
of
and
for
other
events
such
as
Juilliard
and
aiken.
We
serve
as
drivers
and
we
provide
transportation
with
the
city.
The
city
vehicles
and
getting
the
musicians
to
and
from
where
they
need
to
be.
B
A
Of
the
things
we
want
to
do
in
a
future
show
we're
going
to
be
inviting
some
of
the
Commission's
to
come
sit
down
with
us.
So
hopefully
we
can
get
the
chair,
the
accommodations
tax
committee
to
come
in,
but
now
there's
also
a
pot
of
money
that
the
city
spends
from
accommodations
tax.
Tell
us
how
you
decide!
Sort
of
you
were
talking
about
all
the
things
earlier
or
you're
spending
money.
And
how
do
you
decide
where
to
spend
the
money,
your
accommodations
tax,
money,
yeah.
A
B
But
really
I
mean
we
look
at
all
of
the
options.
You
know
we
want
to
be
diverse
it
and
how
we
spend
that
money
and
where
we
spend
that
money
like
we
were
talking
about
before
Aiken
is
primarily
a
drive
market.
So
a
lot
of
that
money
goes
to
the
Charlotte
Savannah
Charleston
Atlanta
kind
of
markets,
but
we
do
spend
do
some
things.
You
know
in
New
York,
because
we
get
we
get
visitors
from
there
as
well
and
a
few
different
places
more
MORE
nationally
as
well.
B
But
but
we
look
at
you
know
the
people
that
that
want
to
advertise
that
want
us
to
advertise
with
them.
You
know
we
look
at
all
of
their
statistics.
We
look
at
their
reach
and-
and
we
talk
with
our
other
partners
about
it
too.
I
talked
with
the
thoroughbred
country-
is
its
kind
of
the
regional
marketing
for
Aiken
barnwell,
vanbergen
allendale,
and
so
we
try
to
diversify
so
that
we're
not
both
putting
ads
in
the
same
places
and
and
Aiken
is
still
getting
represented
through
through
them,
and
so
I
can
spend
that
money
elsewhere.
B
A
lot
of
what
we
do
to
is
is
digital.
Like
I
was
talking
about
earlier.
We
want,
we
want
the
Steve,
Aiken
and
tourism
to
be
very
interactive
and
so
things
that
will
draw
people
to
our
website
and
engage
them
for
a
longer
amount
of
time.
We're
doing
a
lot
of
you
know
online
banner
ads
and
targeted
marketing.
B
A
Options,
I
think
one
of
the
things
would
be
if
you
can
put
it
on
somebody's
phone
or,
if
you
can
put
it
on
their
tablet.
That's
where
people
get
information
these
days.
They
don't
necessarily
go
to
the
old
magazines
that
everybody
used
to
go
to
to
find
information.
We
got
to
make
it
accessible
right.
A
A
B
B
A
A
B
Months
absolutely
well,
we
like
I,
mentioned
before
we
have
the
Thursday
night
market
and
that
runs
every
Thursday
throughout
the
summer.
In
the
alley,
from
five
to
seven
thirty,
our
last
one
will
be
August
thirteenth,
so
you
can
come
to
that.
Every
week
the
hopeland
concert
series
is
going
on
every
week.
That's
every
monday
on
at
seven
p.m.
at
hoechlin
gardens,
and
so
that's
a
wonderful
of
it.
They
have
some
great
groups
that
are
coming
to
that.
B
There's
the
Dixie
boys
World
Series,
actually
that's
coming
up
August
first
and
that
first
weekend
in
August,
which
citizens
park
will
be
hosting
that
tournament
this
year
we're
doing
the
fireworks
out
at
the
fairgrounds,
and
so
that's
the
weekend
before
july,
4th
it's
jun,
27th
and
so
that's
a
great
event
that
people
can
be
looking
looking
forward
to
and
then
this
weekend
Juneteenth
is
going
to
be
happening
at
perry
park.
So
there's
there
are
so
many
events
there's
a
lot
of
events
that
are
always
going
on
at
the
center
for
the
arts
as
well.
B
A
Go
back
just
in
re
emphasize
to
folks
how
important
it
is
that
other
agencies
in
the
town
in
the
city
and
the
county
put
things
on
your
event
calendar,
because
one
of
your
jobs,
I
think,
is
to
drive
people
to
that
calendar.
But
you
don't
know
everything
that's
going
on
in
your
staff,
so
it's
very
important
that
people
do
that.
Yes,.
B
That's
huge,
I
mean
how
we
want
to
help.
You
know
all
of
the
different
organizations
here
in
aiken
and
you
know.
Just
last
month
we
had
seventeen
thousand
new
visitors
come
to
our
website,
and
so
that's
a
whole
group
of
people
that
you
want
to
be
marketing
to
you,
want
your
information
out
to
and
that
opportunities
available
to
you,
and
so
we
really.
B
We
really
want
to
keep
that
calendar
up-to-date
and
current,
and-
and
we
put
a
link
on
it
to
two
individuals
website
to
if
they
have
their
own
website
and
so
not
only
are
they
getting
to
see
it
on
our
website,
but
it's
driving
them
to
your
website
as
well,
so
they
can
continue
to
learn.
You
know
about
those
agencies
in
aiken
and
those
businesses
quickly.
