Description
This week's edition of Aiken This Week introduces us to TaKima "TK" Butler to discuss Aiken Department of Public Safety's Police Athletic League, a nonprofit organization organized to provide athletic + recreational activities for children who may not be afforded the opportunity to participate in standard athletic programs.
A
Welcome
taken
this
week,
I
memory
Langston
today
I'm
being
joined
by
two
keema
Butler,
otherwise
known
as
TK
the
youth
in
family
coordinator
for
the
Department
of
Public
Safety,
and
we're
here
at
the
Crossland
house
where
GK's
office
is,
and
she
came.
We
thank
you
for
giving
us
a
few
minutes
of
your
time
today
to
get
to
know
you
a
little
bit.
Thank
you
for
having
me
to
keep
up.
A
B
So
I
was
born
and
raised
here:
naked
I
graduated
from
bacon,
high
school
and
class
of
2009
at
this
fence
area
so
forth,
and
so
I'm
graduating
2009.
Then,
from
there
I
went
to
a
sparker
Methodist
College
on
a
golf
scholarship
I
played
there
for
two
years
and
decided
that
I
wanted
to
go
and
play
golf
or
four-year.
Do
it,
but
a
four-year
college
and
then
I
went
to
the
Citadel
and
I
graduated
2013.
B
So
when
I
played
for
civil
golf
for
the
banging
of
my
two
years
got
my
bachelor's
in
criminal
justice
and
then
I
came
back
to
Aiken
and
got
hired
on
as
a
police
officer
two
weeks
at
the
graduation.
So
she
called
and
said:
hey
what
offer
your
position
and
what
came
start
I
said
as
soon
as
possible.
Yes,.
B
College
student,
like
that,
so
I,
was
ready
to
get
going
and
just
really
be
a
part
of
this
community.
Something
I've
always
wanted
to
do.
I
grew
up
in
the
department,
my
dad
retired
as
a
lieutenant
here
and
I
knew
that
this
is
where
I've
always
wanted
to
be
so
I
was
ready
to
get
started
and
now
I'm
getting
my
masters
and
professional
counseling
and
Liberty
University
online.
So
I've
been
you
know
doing
while
studying
she
graduated
babe,
so
that
Harry
looking
forward
to
it,
has
been
a
long
road.
B
Just
really
to
you
know,
take
my
time
sharing,
working
and
setting
so
and
as
I
began
working
in
the
community
as
a
police
officer,
I
realized
that
I
wanted
to
help
in
a
different
way,
and
this
position
came
open
and
I
figured.
What
better
way
to
you
know
be
a
part
of
community
and
and
to
really
help
get
to
know
people
in
a
different
atmosphere.
Sure
that's
pretty
much
me
well.
A
B
It's
the
Police,
Athletic
League,
okay,
so
I
deal
with
sports
I
deal
with
football,
chili
track
and
field
basketball,
and
we
partnered
with
who
Cuttino
golf
and
so
we're
doing
this,
where
kids
are
able
to
play
golf
okay,
so
look
at
this,
you
know
just
being
that
person
they
can
come
to
if
they
need
something.
Just
really
you
know,
I
have
my
phone
on
me
all
the
time
and
sometimes
I've
been
child
is
not
behaving
in
school.
With
a
parent
at
card
say:
hey,
my
child
is
acting
up
in
school.
B
Can
you
please
talk
to
them
and
I
meet
with
them
or
talk
to
one
at
all
and
say:
hey
what's
going
on,
you
know
so,
just
being
that
familiar
face
somewhere,
they
can
come
and
talk
to
thing.
Anything
and
my
goal
is
to
really
once
I
graduate
with
counseling
to
really
put
those
skills
to
use
and
and
just
kind
of
help.
You
know,
kids
with
communicating
and
Families.
Just
you
know
knowing
what's
going
on
with
their
job
sure.
A
B
In
law
enforcement,
I
came
in
contact
with
a
lot
of
people
in
the
cause
of
Market,
Village
area
and
I
just
saw
that
me
I
wanted
to
to
really
my
call
would
take
hours
if
I
could
just
really
talk
to
him,
because
I
realized
that
the
child's
behavior
you
know,
that's
the
result
of
something
else
that
there's
a
deeper
issue
that
I
always
wanted
to
understand.
You
know
why
are
you
behaving
this
way?
B
What's
going
on
and
as
a
police
officer,
you
really
don't
have
the
time
because
you're
going
from
call
to
call,
so
you
really
have
to
talk
to
really
understand
why
a
child
runningboy
every
day.
So
this
position
I
took
this
position
because
I
figured
I
would
have
more
time
to
really
sit
down
with
them
and
figure
out
what
the
underlying
issue
is
and
a
lot
of
times
when
a
child
or
person
in
general
tells
you
what
the
problem
is.
It's
not
always
the.
B
A
B
Certain
position
in
June
and
they're
really
the
only
group
that
I've
actually
interacted
with
our
football
players
and
the
cheerleaders
thus
far
and
just
with
them
I've
noticed
that
they're
they're
very
comfortable
coming
up
to
me.
You
know
it
means
a
lot
of
kid
come
on.
You
know:
hey
misty
Kenny,
you
know,
hey
miss
bowling,
they've
come
up.
Give
me
a
hug,
you
know,
and
just
kind
of
you
know
just
really
be
able
to
talk
with
them.
B
I
noticed
something
about
the
parents
as
well
and
said
their
hope,
they're
willing
to
help
they're
full
of
ideas.
They.
You
know
once
the
my
two
it's
at
least
listen
to
their
ideas
and
help
make
this
program
better.
Some
notice
that
you
know
kids
are
a
little
more
free
parents
are
willing
to
help.
So
that's
what
I've
noticed
as
far
as
far
as
the
impact
well.
A
B
I
feel
that
the
biggest
need
is
for
the
youth
to
have
something
to
do.
You
know
something
that
sort
of
occupy
their
time.
You
know
sports,
but
everybody's,
not
athletic.
So
just
having
something
else.
You
know
fun
thing
to
do
to
see
you
know,
because
if
they're
going
to
get
bored,
you
know
they
play
video
games,
but
they
want
to
accomplish
the
games
and
there's
nothing
else
to
do
so.
Just.
B
You
know
more
entertaining
for
them
to
do
who
are
thinking
of
it
from
a
family
perspective,
just
really
teaching
families
how
to
communicate
with
one
another.
You
know
one
thing
of
experiences
that
a
parent
could
tell
me
hey.
My
child
is
doing
this
and
I
asked
them
why
they
don't
know
I
go
to
the
jobs
that
a
your
mom
said
you
doing
this.
Can
you
tell
them?
Why
do
they
tell
me
why?
B
A
B
My
goal
is
to
come
in
contact
with
as
many
juveniles
in
this
area
as
possible,
and
you
know
just
be
that
that
familiar
face
building
relationships
with
them
and
their
families.
You
know
maybe
one
day,
I'll
be
invited
to
someone's
graduation
or
you
know,
awards
banquet
or
something
like
that,
but
to
to
really
make
an
impact
on,
and
you
know
help
them
to.
You
know,
make
better
decisions.
A
I
think
that
you
have
the
the
perfect
personality
skills.
This
is
very
much
in
your
wheelhouse
to
be
able
to
do
this,
we're
very
lucky
to
have
you
as
the
youth
and
family
coordinator
for
the
Department
of
Public
Safety
at
you
and
the
Police
Athletic
League
other
babies,
Wow
TK.
Thank
you
for
taking
a
few
minutes
with
us
today
to
get
to
know
you
a
little
bit
better
and
the
best
of
luck
and
in
doing
what
you
do
in
the
community.
Thank
you.
