From YouTube: Channel 4 Interview With The Mayor / Public Safety Fire Safety / Christmas In Hopelands
Description
Mayor Fred Cavanaugh
A
Hello
and
welcome
to
the
city
of
Aitkin,
this
channel
for
and
forefront
I'm
George
Reed,
we're
very
pleased
to
have
with
us
is
our
guest
on
this
edition.
The
mayor
of
the
city
of
Aiken,
mr.
Fred
Cavanaugh,
mr.
Cavanaugh,
thanks
for
being
with
us.
Thank
you
George,
it's
my
pleasure.
Let
me
ask
you
the
first:
are
you
from.
B
A
B
A
B
Well,
I
I
worked
with
DuPont,
first
of
all
to
go
back
to
after
college
I
went
to
work
with
DuPont
and
traveled
around
the
several
different
locations,
with
DuPont
moved
back
to
Aiken
in
1978
I'm
working
with
DuPont.
At
that
time,
of
course,
so
I
you
know
most
of
the
things
I
did
were
with
my
family
and
in
church
and
working
with
DuPont.
During
that
interim
time,
before
I
became
interested
in
running
for
City
Council.
What
she
did
in
1985.
B
Well,
it's
it's
a
part-time
job,
supposedly,
but
really
it's
it's
full-time
I
mean
you're,
always
subject
to
telephone
calls
at
all
hours
of
the
day
and
running
to
meetings
at
different
times
during
the
day.
So
this
actually
takes
a
big
party
a
day.
It's
not
all
your
day,
but
it
really
is
supposedly
a
part-time.
Definitely.
A
B
My
responsibilities
as
mayor
are
a
few
bit
of
different
than
the
councilmembers
not
a
whole
lot,
and
that
I
call
City
Council
meetings.
My
chair
of
the
City
Council
meeting
I
sign
the
contracts
and
agreements
that
commit
the
city
to
different
things
and,
of
course,
I
represent
the
city
of
different
meetings.
Whenever
that
we
need
to
have
a
representative
from
the
city
of
meetings
out
of
town
in
town
I
meet
with
dignitaries
when
they
come
to
town
and
and
in
a
case
of
emergency
I,
could
the
mayor
can
call
for
curfew
in
the
city?
B
B
A
B
I
love
this
community
and
I
did
from
almost
the
day
that
we
moved
here
and
I
want
to
give
back
to
my
community
and
make
it
a
better
place
to
live
and
I
thought
that
I
could
probably
do
more
to
make
it
happen.
If
I
were
mayor,
that
I
could
as
a
council
person.
So
that's
why
basically
I
decided
to
run
from
there
to
help
in
any
way.
I
could
make
in
a
better
place
for
us
all
to
live.
What.
A
B
Know
you
have
to
be
a
leader
and
to
be
a
leader,
you
need
followers
and
followers.
You
think
I
think
you
need
to
be
honest
to
people
you
need
to
looking
at
how
I
talk
to
them.
Whatever
the
issue
is
and
be
honest,
you
need
to
follow
up
with
what
you
say:
you're
gonna
do
or
most
I
think
you
need
to
be
a
good
listener.
I,
listen
to
all
sides
of
every
issue.
B
Sometimes
that's
hard.
You
don't
always
want
to
do
that,
but
you
need
to
do
that
because
so
many
times
you
can
learn
something
that
you
know.
You
perhaps
don't
think
the
same
thing
you
don't
know
about
a
subject,
but
many
times
you
can
learn
something
about
listening,
that
you
would
have
missed
and
I
think
that
if
you
do
those
things
and
then
you
take
time
with
people,
you've
got
to
have
an
attitude
that
you'll
take
time
to
listen
to
people
into
and
to
talk
with
people
and
I
feel
like
I.
B
Do
that
I
can
always
improve,
but
I
feel
comfortable
and
talking
with
people
and
I.
Try
to
be
as
honest
with
that
citizens
is
is
I
can't
be
that
I
know
how
to
be
and
I
think
that
gains
a
certain
respect.
Hopefully,
I
have
some
respect
and
I
think
that
leads
to
success.
The
more
you
can
do,
those
those
things
and
just
be
yourself.
Just
just
don't
try
to
be
something
you're,
not
and
I.
Think
those
are
some
of
the
ingredients,
a
lot
of
ingredients
in
there,
some
of
them.
A
B
The
most
fun
thing
about
being
mayor
and
I
mentioned
it
briefly.
A
few
moments
ago
is,
is
talking
with
young
people
and
actually
going
to
the
schools.
I
really
enjoy
doing
that.
I
do
it
quite
often,
I'm
asked
to
come
and
read
books
or
just
talk
about
government
to
the
kids
and
I
really
enjoy
that
the
feedback
you
get
from
young
people,
it's
just
just
wonderful.
They
seem
to.
B
B
They
ask
a
lot
of
questions
and
I
like
questions,
because
then
I
know
I'm
addressing
something
that
the
person
really
wants
to
know
you're
perfectly
showing
and
that's
just
that's
a
lot
of
fun.
I
enjoy
helping
people.
You
know
if
I
can
help
somebody
with
a
problem,
whether
it
be
was
the
water
of
that
trash
or
no
matter
what
it
is.
You
know
that
I
enjoy
doing
that.
Of
course,
let
me
hasten
to
say
we
have
a
wonderful
City
stamp
and
I
don't
get
a
whole
lot
of
those
columns
where
I
need
help.
B
A
A
B
B
A
B
As
you
may
know,
we
started
that
three
years
ago,
going
on
four
I
guess
now
and
do
we
have
a
lot
of
goals
and
objectives
that
we've
already
implemented
and
we
have
another
ten
years
is
so
of
goals
and
objectives
to
implement,
and
so
the
strategic
plan
that
the
city
has
put
together.
They
the
Aiken
2020
cooperation,
and
what
is
that
to
people
in
Maine?
It
was
lighting
that
was
a
group
that
was
put
together
to
raise
funding
for
many
of
the
goals
in
a
strategic
plan
that
has
been
successful
and
continues.
B
The
you
know,
I
city
has
earned
seven
straight
top
awards
from
the
state
of
South,
Carolina
and
I.
Think
that
speaks
volumes
about
a
city
government
and
before
that
only
one
city
had
earned
two
straight
I
think
and
so
each
year
we
said.
Well,
we
probably
won't
get
another
one,
but
it's
been
seven
straight
years
now.
So
those
those
are
some
of
the
successes.
We've
had
right.
A
A
Much
great,
thank
you,
sir.
Thank
you.

A
A
J
A
I'd
like
to
start
off
by
asking
you
you
mentioned
in
your
other,
show
you
have
the
opportunity
to
meet
with
dignitaries
and
guests
that
come
to
Aegon
and
I'm
sure
you've
traveled
yourself,
you
mentioned
that
you
we're
not
necessary
from
making
we
weren't
born
naked
and
you
moved
away
for
a
while
came
back
in
your
opinion.
What
are
some
of
the
features
that
you
think
make
the
city
of
Aiken
such
a
great
place
to
live
in
George,
I?
Think.
B
People
that
I've
seen
many
cities
that
I've
lived
in
plus
Aiken
just
has
a
uniqueness
about
it,
a
character
about
it,
and
it's
just
so
many
things
combined
such
as
that
parks.
The
way
the
city
was
designed
initially
his
woods,
that
largest
urban
park
or
wooded
area
in
the
country
I
understand
just
like
close
to
town
the
many
historic
facilities
and
places
homes.
B
B
You
put
all
of
these
things
together
and
I,
think
it
just
makes
for
a
very
unique
place
and
that
climate
is
good
and,
of
course,
we've
become
known
as
one
of
the
leading
retirement
cities
in
the
country
and
that
we're
seeing
quite
a
few
retirees
who've
taken
but
and
the
volunteers
and
you
can
go
on
and
on,
but
I
volunteers
here
just
seem
to
always
pull
together
for
any
good
project
and
make
it
happen.
And
you
put
all
these
things
together.
B
You
know-
and
it
just
comes
out
I-
think
to
me
at
least
that
they
can
is
just
one
of
the
most
or
the
best
places
to
live.
Most
beautiful
I
was
gonna
say,
and
it
is,
but
it's
also
the
best
place
that
I've
ever
had
to
live
and
I'm
happy
that
I'm
back
in
Aiken
as
a
1978
and
I
never
want
to
leave.
That's.
A
B
My
vision
is
to
keep
the
character
unique
character.
They
can
that
we
have
and
build
on
the
other
areas
too
vacant
that
we
want
to
improve.
You
know
this
was
really
a
golf
I
strategic
plan
is
not
to
change
those.
It
was
very
good
things
about
a
team
that
we
all
like
and
love,
but
to
look
for
those
things
that
perhaps
could
be
improved
and
build
on
those
and
make
good,
for
instance,
making
taken
even
a
better
family
city,
environmental
to
a
business
city.
We
want
to
diversify
a
business
and
industry.
B
We
want
to
improve
our
arts,
we
have.
We
have
a
good
start
now
on
Center
for
the
Arts
in
downtown
aching
and
I
think
we
can
build
in
the
area
of
art.
We
certainly
want
to
keep
out
horse
community
intact
and
improve
there
where
we
can.
The
horse
community
brings
up
a
lot
of
wonderful
people
and
tourists
taken
as
well
as
they
certainly
are
an
economic
factor
to
take
in
as
well
so
those
things
coupled
with
primarily
having
a
safe
community-
that's
part
of
them.
B
A
You
mentioned
in
your
last
dancer
a
little
bit
about
the
business
aspect
of
the
city
of
Aitkin,
and
certainly
a
major
aspect
in
the
city
of
Aikens
economy
is
what's
known
locally,
as
SRS
or
for
those
of
you
visiting
the
Savannah
River
Site,
which
is
a
nuclear
facility,
is
operated
by
Westinghouse,
and
you
were
telling
me
before
we
went
on
the
air
that
the
the
new
plutonium
mission
is
taking
place
at
the
site.
You
often
mention
this
may
bring
some
positive
aspects
to
the
city
of
Aitkin.
A
B
B
J
B
Got
a
long
life
not
like
tritium,
so
that's
one
thing
that
has
been
talked
about
is
mixing
with
uranium
for
a
month
to
make
MOX
fuel
for
the
commercial
reactors.
The
other
thing
is
to
encapsulate
it
in
in
the
Clint
canisters
using
the
DDPs
facility.
That's
sorry,
and
that
that's
a
process
that
essentially
mixes
it
with
mix
the
plutonium,
perhaps
with
some
other
ways,
and
also
with
molten
glass
and
it's
put
in
steel
canisters,
the
antennas
to
variate
in
a
deep
burial
site
once
that's
determined
by
US
Congress.
You
were
mentioning.
A
B
That's
right,
and
if
you
do
that
and
I,
don't
understand
all
the
details
about
it,
but
there
are
a
couple
of
facilities
that
would
have
to
be
built
in
order
to
mix
this
fuel.
At
least
one
facility
would
have
to
be
built
to
connect
the
fuel
and
that
could
very
possibly
be
built
at
SRS
and
I
would
hope
that
it
would
be
I
think
we
have
the
best
site
in
the
do
a
complex,
and
certainly
it
ought
to
be
used.
The
best
expertise
and
management,
so
I
would
hope
to.
B
A
Briefly,
to
a
completely
different
subject:
the
Heritage
Trail
is
a
project
that
quite
a
few
areas
of
South
Carolina,
working
on
and
I
believe,
and
let
me
know
if
this
is
the
right
understanding,
but
that
it's
gonna
stretch
from
one
end
of
the
state
down
to
the
coast.
Is
that
correct?
That's
right
and
what
is
the?
What
does
Akins
role
in
the
Heritage
Trail
and
the
Heritage
Trail,
since
we
will
be
part
of.
B
That
George
I
chamber
of
commerce
a
can
change.
The
commerce
has
taken
the
lead
in
that
for
the
Aiken
area
and
they
representatives
from
my
chamber
and
met
many
many
times
with
the
Heritage
Corridor
committee
and
I've
not
really
been
a
part
of
of
those
a
closed
part
of
those
meetings.
But
essentially
what
this
is?
It's
it's
going
to
highlight
from
one
end
of
the
state
to
the
other,
the
historic,
the
historic
and
important
aspects
of
the
state,
meaning
historic
homes
or
facilities
or
sites,
and
it
as
I
understand
the
route.
B
It
may
not
directly
come
through
the
city
of
Aitkin,
but
it
will
be
more
like
coming
through
the
middle
of
Aiken
County,
but
obviously
they'll
be
offshoots
from
that
I
mean
people
will
as
they
come
down.
Hopefully,
they'll
come
down
and
tore
the
whole
corridor
from
the
northwest
part
of
the
state
on
down
to
the
coast
and
as
they
approach
different
counties
and
areas,
then
there'll
be
markers
and
there'll
be
facilities
there.
That
will
tell
them
about
some
of
the
historic
places
in
that
community.
B
B
George,
thank
you.
I
just
want
to
tell
my
citizens
that
