deterioration,

contractor

and
the
places
where
none
exist
and
downspouts
to
match
the
existing
and
tie
those
into
one
another
and
part
of
the
project.

replacing
any
existing
wood
rot.

Gardens

looking
to

the
proposed

does
not
have
a

architect

considered

we
started
off,
we

the
size

this
oval

will
stand
and
the

proportions

what
one

feeling
was
that,

this
was
not
a

Gateway
right,
but
a
form
that
would
carry
the
hopeland's
gardens

city

Aiken
form

should
be
diminished
and
should
not
maybe
a
hokey
way
to
put
it
but
should
not
compete.
Yes,
sir,
with
the
historic
Aiken,
piers
and
Gates,
it
would
be
valid
to
take
a
different
view,

would
say
that
that
was
kept
in
mind.

shorter

is
to
replicate
the
coloring
of
the
existing
brick
and
a
mortar
tune.

is
not

bright

tan

estate

hopelands

estate.
So
there
are
a
lot
of
little
historical
facts
that
are
in
this
mind.

designed

sent

true

the

be

accountability

ownership

worked

We
moved
here.
We
actually
both
work
remote
now
and
live
in
Aiken,
because
we
love
it
and
we
live
in
a
historical
house
as
John
knows
who's
her
neighbors,
but
it's
not
just
a
building
to
me.
I've
to
be
fair.
I
have
not
lived
here
as
long
as
you
I've
lived
here.
I've
lived
in
South
Carolina
my
whole
life,
but
have
only
lived
in
Aiken
for
under
six
months,
but
The
more
I've
learned
about
the
history
of
the
Aiken
Hotel,
the
more
important
it
is
to
the
city.

The
fact
that
the
Johnson
drugstore,
which
is
in
the
green
book,
is
potentially
going
to
be
torn
down.
It's
just
a
horrible
loss
to
Historic
preservation
and
a
just
a
horrible
loss
to
African-American
history
in
general
and
I
would
just
really
hope
that
you'll
consider
those
things
are
important
to
people
who
move
here
and
also
people
who
have
lived
here.

whole
lives.

the
first
of
these
meetings
that
I've
ever
been
to
and
I
kind
of
stumbled
in
here
tonight,
actually
by
accident,
but
I
do
commend
you
for
your
service
and
I
I
really
appreciate
the
interaction
I'm
seeing
between
yourselves
and
the
speakers
tonight.
For
example,
I
don't
see
that
at
City
Council
meetings
and
it's
very
disappointing
to
me.

seemed
to
be
kind
of
a
lack
of
balance
between
that
that
project
and
other
projects
that
come
before
you
and
I
can
remember
in
the
past.
Having
been
aware
of
design
review
board
meetings
that
where
people
were
proposing
to
maybe
repaint
shutters
on
a
historic
home,
and
there
was
almost
endless
discussion
about
the
color
of
these
shutters.

just
need
to
bring
jobs
here.
Somehow,
however,
we
might
accomplish
that
and
I
would
urge
anybody
with
that
line
of
thinking
to
consider
the
Wilcox,
Inn
and
I'm
sure
that's
come
up
in
your
discussions
before,
but
that
was
a
structure
that
was
on
the
verge
of
being
demolished
and
it's
and
it's
a
Showplace
now
and
what
is
it
attracts
people
to
Lodge
at
the
Wilcox
Inn
at
a
premium
price,
rather
than
go
down
the
road
to
to
the
kind
of
place
you
see
everywhere,
thousands
of
them
around
the
country?

it's
because
it's
Unique,
it's
it's
distinctive
and
that's
what
the
hotel
Aiken
is
now
I
I,
don't
know
whether
it
makes
sense
to
keep
it
or
not,
but
what
I
would
urge
you
to
do
is
get
some
get.
Some
expert
advice
get
people
in
here
who
really
understand,
what's
involved
in
in
restoring
a
structure,
and
is
it
practical
to
do
that?

don't
know,
but
I
do
know
right
over
here
in
Charleston
we
have
a.
We
have
a
civil
engineer
architect
who
spent
his
entire
life.

all,
the
the
legal
issues
around
demolition
might
neglect
and
related
issues
concerning
the
hotel,
Lake
and
as
well
as
some
of
the
associated
properties
is
fairly
complicated
and
the
board
heard
my
advice
and
we
talked
about
that
and
then,
as
a
result
of
those
discussions,
no
action,
formal
actions
being
taken
by
the
drb
at
this
time.
But
it's
my
understanding
that
the
chairman
is
going
to
very
soon

power

strongly
request
that
an
authorized
representative
of
the
amdc
as
the
owner
be
present
at
the
January
meeting
of
the
drb,
to
speak
on
behalf
of
the
commission
and
be
able

commitments

plan
and
that
will
be
again
at
a
public
meeting
in
January

it's
January
3rd
I
believe
it
is
so
that
the
chairman
will
take
that
action

coming
days
