the
other
side,
we
have
a
porch
at
one
point:
it
had
a
wrap
around
porch
around
the
entire
house
as
far
as
we
can
tell,
as
in
1896,
it's
been
renovated
multiple
times
and,
of
course
out
the
back.
It
also
didn't
make
sense
pushing
out
the
front
right
wall
is
the
suggestion
that
we
have
and
what
we
proposed
is
pushing
that
wall
out
from
the
street.
It
should
make
relatively
no
difference
in
the
the
appearance
of
the
house,
the
roof
on
the
porch.

That's
sagging,
and
that's
why
all
that
is
sagged
is
because
there's
virtually
bricks,
stacked
on
top
of
clay
with
no
footer
under
any
of
that.
So
part
of
this
project
would
be
renovating
that
bottom
room
under
the
portica
share
pushing
out
that
front
little
piece
that
you
can't
see
any
difference
from
the
street
because
it's
just
the
same
face
what
the
same
Windows
push
forward,
putting
New
Foundation
under
that
a
real
Foundation
which
is
concrete
in
the
ground
that
the
bricks
will
come
up.

The
bricks
won't
be
painted,
which
is
more
historical
than
painting
brick,
and
also
we
would
be
stripping
off
the
vinyl
as
we
go.
So
on
the
first
floor,
you
know
the
first
since
that's
where
we're
renovating
we'd
be
pulling
the
vinyl
off
that
and
replacing
that
with.
You
know,
Hardie
board,
which
is
a
concrete
fiber
board
to
to
make
it
last
as
we
go
The
Columns
I
did
this
program
on
CAD
they're,
actually
straight
up
and
down
on
the
brickwork
they're
they're.
Not
you
know
with
a

that
the
Craftsman
kind
of
place
added
on
there's
a
veneer
bricks
on
the
front
where
the
columns
were
added
that
you
can
see
that
didn't
actually
match
up
tied
into
it.
So
it
was
a
veneer

they
added

later
on.
In
one
case,
we
had
one
of
those
pulling
away
falling
away
from
the
skirt
wall,
so
it
was
in
addition
to
basically
what's
a
four
square
house
that
trying
to
turn
it
into
a
Craftsman
house,
which
is
not
what
it
is
yeah.

your
two
examples:
the
the
before
and
the
after,
the
the
new
column
is
part
of
your
porch
that
you've
already
refurbished
and
then
that's
what
you're
attempting
to
to
replace
this
painted
with
white
brick

additions

we
had
another
company,
come
out

They
can't
force
concrete
under
the

brickwork
that
is
just
laying
on

clay

plus

basement
walls.

way
they're
formed
for
a
half
basement.
They
would
cave
in
and
Tumble
over
if
you
try
to
force
concrete
under
them,
and
so
we're
only
able
to
stabilize
them
from
the
inside.
But
this
will
help
to
push
it
out.

we
understand
and
looking
back
through
records
and
trying
to
find
looking
at
tax
records,
Catherine
here
is
investigated
a
lot
of
that
trying
to
see
all
the
different
and,
of
course
we
found
a
number
of
newspapers
and
things
in

house.

kind
of
give
us
an
idea
back
in
walls
about
where
some
of
these
were
done
in
the
1970s
and
1990s
before
we
got
there,
and
so
it's
at
least
six
or
seven
Renovations
before
us.

We
know
from
1922
from
a
newspaper
article
that
talked
about
a
function
that
had
there
that
they
had
13
different
tables
of
people
that
they
had
in
there
and
a
big
kind
of
coming
out
party
for
the
house.
We
don't
know
if
that's
when
they
added
those
at
that
particular
point
we're
guessing
at
that
point,
but
it
could
have
been
later
than
that.
We
have
known
some
people.
Who've
lived
in
the
house,
but
a
few
of
those
people
now
have
passed
and
it
at
least
one
of
those.

It
was
three
stories
at
the
time
that
they
were
there
because
they
actually,
we
had
a
couple,
show
up
on
our
porch
and
they
had
rented
out
the
third
floor.
They
were
in
their
probably
80s,
but
I'd
remember
renting
that
out
back
in
the
19
late
1970s.
We
know
it
was
three
stories
at
that
point
and
we
know
from
pictures
in
1950s
that
those
were
there
in
the
1950s,
but
once
again,
and
also
the
you
know,
of
course,
terrible
construction.

But
and
so
we
pulled
that
back,
they
were
just
suspended
hanging
there
by
the
other
columns
that
there
was
no
Center
a
post
in
the
center
of
those
holding
that
up.
It
was
just
the
veneer
and
then
the
molding,
because
everything
else
had
rotted
underneath
that,
and
so
anyway,
just
kind
of
a
miracle
that
the
porch
roof
is
still
there.
So.

but
if
it
was
built
in
the
1920s
it
is,
it
has
some
value
as
an
aesthetically,
the
double
columns,
the
taper.
You
know
the
those
are
elements
that
you
know
really
make
this
house
special
to
the

the
history
of
the
area,
and
so
that
is
I
think
it's
very
important
that
we're
clear
that
you
know
if,
if
it
was
something
that
was
built
in
the
1920s,
according
to
the
porches
balcony
steps
and
attached
deck
guidelines
in
the
design
review
manual,
you
know
it
should
be.

We've
kept
those
also,
it
would
be
a
tremendous
amount
of
cost
to
take
all
those
things
down
as
well.
She's
also
added
a
number
of
doors
that
are
odd
sized
doors
that
we've
had
hand
built
to
replace
the
doors

Unfortunately,
someone
in
our
house
by
kicking
them
in,
as
we
had
those
hand
built
in
this
particular
with
the
we're
already
going
to
be
I-
think
having
it
probably
an
excessive
cost
to
try
to
update
to
metal
roofing,
which
is
more
of
the
time
and
more
of
roofs
with
low
pitches.

size

the
columns,
which
would

reduced
in
size

also

straight
and
easier
to
build

columns

still
petition
and
want
to
stay
with
that

our
proposal

stay
with
the
design

match

think
is
mostly

downtown

Craftsman
style
being

the

porch,
so
they're
not
actually
connected

skirt
wall.
They
didn't
so
it's
not
original,
obviously,

they
don't

woven

Brick
skirt
wall.
That's
why
they
are
separated
and
you
can
see
where
Vines
have
been
growing
in
between
the
Gap
there
right
in
one
particular
case,
we
had
one
that
was
leaning
over
which
contributed
to
the
porch
sagging
as
well,
which
the
whole
front
porch
is
the
whole
front.

they
came
in
and
they
added
a
skirt
wall
along
that,
but
that
connected
those.
Then
they
came
back
at
another
point
and-
and
that
was
to
the
front
of
the
the
small
brick
columns,
so
they
built
so
that
it
was
in

wall
itself.
But
you
could
see
where
the
brick
columns
were
and
they
just
butted
up
against
those.

Then
they
came
in
later
and
put
these
other
columns
on
where
it
was
a
veneer
of
bricks
that
came
up
and
then
was
built
over
the
top
of
it,
including
over
the
top
of
the
joists,
underneath
the
flooring,
which
is
bizarre,
how
they
did
all
that
so
there's
at
least
three
phases
of
of
the
the
porch
structural
members.
There.
You
know
as
far
as.

person
it's
not
really
clear
that
1922
that
came
in
and
and
put
these
brick
pairs
in
and
the
Craftsman
columns
and
all
that
happened.
So
it
sounds
like
a
sequence
of
when
you
say
there
are
brick
columns.
Originally
you
mean
up
to
the
up
to
the
sports
level,
it's
up
to
the
floor
right
and
then,
who
knows
what
sort
of
rail
or
even
what
kind
of
car.
So
there
wasn't
a
brick
pier
in
1922
necessarily
so
it.

kinds

we

to
just
decide
who
about
about
the
importance
of
those
tapered
columns.
They're
tapered,
right
on
to
the

far
left
pair

then,
when
it
gets
back
to

porch,
they
start
to
be
straight.
The
new
ones
is
that
right,
so
those
two
that
are
tapered
you're,
proposing
you'd
like
to
go
with
a
single

have
a
brick
unpainted,

pair
right.

appearance

those
double
columns

they're
turning

corner

corner
that
you

they've
done
a
really
beautiful
job

burning

the
street

next
one
and
they

that
at
every
you

juncture
in
the
roof.

it
really
is.

the

the

there's
been
lots
and
lots
of
renovations
to
this
house.

the
work
was

years

trying

shore

up

columns

because

think
it
really
substantially

change
something,

once
it's
70
years
old,
it's

historically
significant,

if
it
was
built
on

inferior

house

the

painted
brick

those

a
