Description
As we enter the 29th year of Christmas in Hopelands, our fourth video installment celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Friends of Hopelands provides a brief glimpse of how this wonderful program got its start. Please enjoy our guest speaker, Michaela Berley, who was instrumental in getting this program off the ground. Creating this family tradition of Christmas in Hopelands would not have been possible without the help and support of the Friends of Hopelands and Rye Patch.

A
This
group
of
senior
adults
had
the
idea.
While
we
were
out
on
the
trip
one
day,
we
needed
a
place
to
have
christmas
lights,
for
people
to
go
to
in
aitkin,
so
we
put
our
heads
together
and
started
thinking
of
a
place
to
have
those
christmas
lights,
and
we
came
up
with
the
idea
of
having
lights
in
oakland
gardens
went
to
the
recreation
director.
He
said,
let's
make
a
plan
and
talk
to
the
friends
of
hopelands
and
rye
patch,
and
so
that's
what
we
did.
We
put
our
plan
together.
A
We
talked
to
the
friends
of
hopeland
gardens
in
rye
patch.
We
showed
them
our
plan.
They
agreed
on
what
we
wanted
to
do
and
they
supported
the
program,
so
parents
and
spares
got
busy.
We
started
raising
money
for
displays.
They
sold
aluminum
cans,
they
wrote
checks
they
baked
cookies.
They
helped
organize
the
event.
Friends
of
hopelands
came
out
and
did
a
an
early
walk
through
gave
us
the
thumbs
up
on
hopeland
gardens
and
then
that's
where
we
began
over
the
years.
A
Oakland
gardens
at
christmas
time
has
continued
to
grow,
and
that's
because
of
the
support
that
the
friends
of
hopelands
and
rypax
has
given
to
the
program
like
to
thank
them
for
the
support
and
for
bringing
this
to
the
aitkin
community.
And
with
that
I
would
like
to
say
happy
50th
anniversary
to
the
friends
of
hopelands
and
my.
