The City of Aiken held an Opportunity Zone community meeting Sept 18th at the Lessie B. Price Senior and Youth Center from 6-8 pm. The City of Aiken and Thomas P. Miller & Associates provided a presentation for the community within the Opportunity Zone and encouraged feedback from those in attendance.
The City of Aiken has one Opportunity Zone which provides incentives in this new federal program, established by Congress as a part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. It is designed to encourage long-term private investment to the most considered low-income area in Aiken based on census data. The City is currently in the process of identifying potential projects in the Opportunity Zone.
The meeting format was to explain critical points of the Senate bill sponsored by Sen. Tim Scott and Sen. Cory Booker and to discuss community needs as well as receive input from the participant.
