guest
founding
organizer

the
West
Richland
Improvement
Team
and
I've
spoken
to
this
board
in
other
city
and
County
organizations.
Many
times
we
are
a
grassroots
coalition
of
residents
and
business
owners
and
concerned
citizens
really
that
are
committed
to
enhancing
the
entire
Richland
Avenue
West
corridor.
That
includes
anything
from
aesthetics
to
business,
to
safety,
to
functionality,
one
of
our
overarching
goals.

fact
the
first
goal
has
been
for
a
couple
years
now
to
preserve
and
adaptively
reuse,
the
old
hospital,
and
we
are
encouraged
and
now
I'm
speaking
for
myself,
because
maybe
not
everybody
in
my
grassroots
organization
is
here
or
has
seen
this,
but
speaking
at
some
risk
on
behalf
of
everybody
in
my
organization,
I
am
encouraged
by
what
I
see
here
we
appreciate
mr.
Duffy
being
here.
We
appreciate
that
he
and
his
group
have
made
some
significant
changes
based
on
the
input
that
we've
given
them
ahead
of
this
meeting.

want

have
that
whole
area
developed
as
a
gateway
on
the
west
side
of
downtown
proper.
We
want
to
see
a
greater
connection
between
downtown
Aiken
and
areas
west
on
Richland
Avenue,
including
the
hospital
the
university,
those
businesses
out
there.
We
want
to
have
something
that
we
can,
that
will
succeed
and
that
will
be
responsive
to
the
great
need
for
housing
in
Aiken.
There
was
an
article
I
believe
in
yesterday's
paper
about
that,
so
we
will
get
behind
anything
that
that
will
succeed.

would
love
to
see
the
nurses
building
preserved,

our
overarching
concern,
based
on
the
review
of
the
first
conceptual
plan,
was
the
very
great
density
we
thought
that

way
too
much
density
for
a
planned
residential
exceeded,

residential
multi-family
high-density.

they
take
down

they
go
from
six
additional
buildings
to
four
that
reduces
that
density,

become
more
in
line
with
residential
high-density

and

be
something
with
the
appropriate
design

plan

extremely
conceptual,
so
this
doesn't
really
apply,

I
would
like
to
make
the
comment
that
I
think
akin
I
believe
that
we,
this
plan
should
represent
what
I'd
like
to
call
sophisticated
modernity,
which
is
kind
of
this
balanced
interplay
between
innovation
and
tradition
and
I,
feel
that's
what
Aitken
kind
of
gives.
What
gives
akin
its
edge
it's.

historic
architecture
and
it's
green
public,
green
spaces
