Description
The first Muni Band and More concert will feature the Green Oaks Trio with Reggie Greenlaw, Curt Snook, and Steve Hurst. This local favorite will perform American folk and Irish-Celtic songs with guitar, fiddle and mandolin. The hour-long program will also include favorite past performances of the Ames Municipal Band including soloists such as Simon Estes and announcer John Burnett-Larkins.
This new series is made possible by the Ames City Council and Ames Parks and Recreation. this
very
special
broadcast
from
the
Ames
municipal
band,
I'm
John,
Burnett
Larkins,
the
announcer
of
the
Ames
municipal
band
and
on
behalf
of
the
band
and
its
director,
dr.
Michael
Gilliam.
Oh,
we
are
very
pleased
to
present
tonight's
live
broadcast
from
Ames
city
auditorium.
Although
our
2020
season
has
been
canceled
due
to
the
corona
virus,
we
are
presenting
for
special
broadcast
to
help
bring
our
music
into
your
homes
and
into
your
hearts.

are
calling
this
Muni
band
and
more
virtual
July
concerts,
and
this
is
the
first
of
four
Thursday
broadcasts
where
we
are
presenting
live
performances
of
different
musical
ensembles
mixed
with
highlight
clips
of
some
favorite
performances
with
the
Ames
municipal
band.
Our
intent
of
these
broadcasts
is
to
sustain
the
season
of
the
Ames
municipal
band
and
again,
to
provide
music
for
our
community.
Music
is
especially
important
during
this
time
of
uncertainty.

The
green
oaks
trio
was
our
featured
group
this
week,
led
by
guitarist
Reggie
green
la
with
Kurt
snook
on
the
fiddle
and
Steve
Hurst
on
the
mandolin.
They
have
performed
pre-show
entertainment
at
bandshell
Park
for
the
municipal
band
for
several
years.
They
performed
throughout
central
Iowa
and
play
a
wide
variety
of
traditional
American
and
Irish
Celtic
music.
Here

tonight
we're
the
Green
Oaks
trio,
and
there
are
three
of
us
here,
as
you
can
see
what
this
is
Kurt
snook
over
here.
I'm
doing
the
fiddle
and
you'll
hear
lots
of
that
I'm
Reggie
Greenlaw
I'm
going
to
be
playing
guitar.
This
is
Steve
Hurst
who's
going
to
be
doing
mandolin
for
us
and
we're
going
to
be
playing
several
sets
of
music
and
the
first
one
that
we'll
be
playing
is
entitled
Arizona
and
Coleman's
March.
That
will
be
followed
by
his
set
entitled.

On
July
11th
2019,
we
had
the
Mariachi
Reyes
del
Oeste
band
perform
as
our
pre
concert,
entertainment,
and
they
also
performed
two
selections
with
the
municipal
band
during
the
full
concert
that
evening.
These
are
students
from
Denison
high
school
and
they're,
led
by
ISU
music
alumnus
Ruben
Newell.
Here
they
are
now
performing
guadalajara
and
camino
de
Guanajuato.

Martini,
let's
go
instead
getting
us
underway
with
what,
in
the
hot
rod,
that's
a
classical
wrench,
Errol
and
mariachi
number
composed
by
Pepe
visa.
It
has
been
recorded
by
many
artists
over
the
years,
including
Nat,
King,
Cole
and
Desi.
Arnaz
was
also
featured
in
a
scene
in
the
Elvis
Presley
movie
fun
in
Acapulco.
There's
some
useless
trivia.
You
can
take
home
with
you
tonight.

Ruben
tells
me
there
are
four
mariachi
ensembles
in
the
Dennison
school
system
there.
This
is
the
touring
group
for
grades
8
through
12
the
typical
age
range
for
this
65
people
in
total
between
those
four
programs
there
and
Denison
you
do
have
to
audition.
The
part
of
this
group
program
started
in
2012
under
director
Newell
for
their
encore
here
tonight.
They
old
learning
of
a
song
composed
and
performed
originally
by
Jose
Alfredo
Jimenez.
He
was
born
in
Dolores
Hidalgo
in
the
Mexican
state
of
Guanajuato.

We
are
indeed

Ames

As
you
might
know,
at
each
week's
municipal
band
concert
we
always
feature
a
vocal
soloist
and
occasionally
an
instrumental
syllabus
to
one
of
our
favorite
vocalists
is
Mindy
pom
VC,
who
sang
someone
to
watch
over
me,
the
classic
from
George
and
Ira
Gershwin.
That
was
on
June
20th
2019.

is

Traditionally,
we
conclude
our
summer
concerts
with
a
hymn
tune,
followed
by
a
march
from
John
Philip
Sousa.
Well,
this
summer,
we'd
like
to
do
something
a
little
bit
different
include
each
of
our
broadcasts
with
a
performance
of
the
famous
carbon
dragon
arrangement
of
America,
the
Beautiful.
We
hope
to
see
you
next

when
we

seasons
and
our
