From YouTube: Homewood Clubhouse Groundbreaking
Description
Join Ames Parks and Recreation as they hold the groundbreaking for the new clubhouse at Homewood Golf Course.
A
Good
afternoon,
this
is
like
a
great
day
after
a
couple
of
cancellations
due
to
inclement
weather,
I'm
mayor
john
hayla
and
I'm
pleased
to
introduce
one
of
our
council
members.
Tim
garten
is
here
and
we're
hoping
to
have
one
more
coming,
so
she
still
may
show
up
so
homewood
golf
course
open
is
a
private
golf
course
in
1932.,
in
1967,
the
city
of
ames
acquired
the
nine-hole
par
34
golf
course
to
provide
another
outdoor
recreational
option
for
the
ames
citizens.
A
Golf
remains
one
of
the
fewest
sports
that
appeals
to
participants
of
all
ages.
Many
local
golfers
learned
a
sport
here
at
homewood
and
homewood
remains
a
favorite
for
golfers
in
their
90s,
who
take
advantage
of
the
no
green
fees
for
golfers,
aged
90
or
older
program,
a
group
that
I
sure
hope
I
can
enjoy
sometime
in
the
future.
The
rolling
green
fairways
of
homewood,
the
serene
setting
the
wooded
area
where
we're
standing
will
provide
a
perfect
site
for
the
new
clubhouse.
A
B
Thank
you
mayor
and
welcome
everybody,
so
just
a
few
thank
yous
to
to
start
with.
First
off,
I
want
to
thank
the
city
council,
the
mayor.
It's
been
a
long
time
coming
and
it
was
really
the
dollar
amount
for,
for
this
project
was
a
little
higher
than
what
we
initially
had
thought
about.
So
really
want
to
say
thanks
to
the
mayor
and
city
council,
for
for
finding
the
funding
and
allocating
the
funding
you
know
to
to
make
this
project
happen.
B
I
also
want
to
thank
the
the
parks
and
recreation
commission
because
was
actually
a
commissioner
a
while
back
made
the
the
comment
about
really
wanting
a
community
room
and
when
we
started
talking
about
the
homewood
clubhouse
and
the
need
to
replace
it
really
had
conversation
about
adding
a
community
room
and
I'll
go
through
a
little
bit
more
of
the
details
of
what
this
is
going
to
look
like
in
in
a
little
bit.
So
thank
you
also
to
the
parks
and
recreation
commission.
B
I
also
want
to
give
a
thank
you
to
donna
elvik
don
donna
actually
made
a
donation.
We
had
tried
to
go
out
and
get
some
some
donations
for
this
project
and
she
did
come
forward
with
a
ten
thousand
dollar
donation
for
the
project.
So
so
I
want
to
say
thank
you
to
to
donna
and
her
husband,
so
also
with
it.
You
see
the
the
clubhouse
is
not
back
there
right
now.
B
B
We
did
contract
with
the
farnsworth
group
on
christopher
orth,
who
is
the
architect
lead
architect,
for
it
we've
been
working
with
him
for
a
couple
of
years.
So
so
I
want
to
thank
you
there
thank
christopher
and,
and
we
really
think
we
have
a
good
design
and
then
we
also
have
eric
from
rh.
Gradeball
is
here
who's
the
contractor
for
this
project,
and
you
can
see
that
they've
already
started.
You
know
working
on
on
things
behind
us,
so
just
in
regards
to
the
the
project
itself,
it's
about
three
thousand
square
feet.
B
We
will
have
a
lower
level
and
that
lower
level
will
house
all
of
our
carts,
which
we
do
go
with.
Electric
carts,
try
to
be
energy
efficient
as
much
as
possible,
and
we
have
expanded
the
cart
storage
because
we
want
to
try
to
get
more
outings
and
one
of
the
things
with
golf.
Outings
is
people
like
to
use
carts,
and
and
now
we
will
have
the
ability
to
store
18
carts
underneath
the
the
the
clubhouse
up
top
when
you
walk
in
you'll,
walk
into
kind
of
the
clubhouse
portion
of
it
there'll
be
a
counter.
B
So,
like
the
mayor
mentioned,
it's
going
to
be
a
year-round
facility,
we'll
be
doing
some
some
rentals,
we're
doing
other
activities
we'll
be
able
to
use
it
for
some
programming
for
our
department.
It
will
be
available
for
other
departments
as
well
for
retreats
and
so
on.
So
now
we
are
trying
to
be
energy
efficient.
We
did
go
with
geothermal
heating
and
cooling,
which
is
a
thing
in
upfront.
C
C
All
right,
thank
you,
keith
for
that
introduction
good
afternoon.
Everyone
and
thank
you
for
joining
us
on
behalf
of
the
ames
parks
and
recreation
commission.
Also
in
attendance
today
is
my
fellow
commissioner
dwayne,
and
this
is
an
exciting
day,
and
this
is
something
that
we've
been
discussing
on
the
commission
for
a
long
time
now,
and
so
it's
exciting
to
see
it
finally
move
forward
for
the
folks
watching
at
home.
There
are
18
boards
and
commissions
that
we
have
in
the
city
of
ames.
C
You
know,
through
several
commissions.
Now
it's
been
kicking
around
the
commission
for
a
long
time
when
we,
when
we
do
the
capital
improvements
plan,
we're
thinking
five
years
into
the
future,
and
so
you
just
never
know
an
idea
that
you
have
today
how
that
will
pan
out.
In
a
few
years,
keith
mentioned
one
thing
that
we
really
pursued
with
this
facility
was
energy
efficiency.
C
We
opted
not
to
pursue
the
leed
certification.
It
was
just
a
really
a
big
task
and
an
even
more
expensive
task
to
get
that
certification,
but
we
did
include
a
number
of
energy
efficient
considerations
when
planning
the
building
to
make
this
a
an
efficient
year-round
building.
C
C
Homewood
golf
course
as
keith
and
the
mayor
mentioned,
it
serves
a
unique
population
in
ames.
There
are
many
golfers
that
enjoy
it
throughout
the
season,
but
it
does
serve
many
older
citizens
of
ames
and
those
citizens
we
know,
have
been
particularly
isolated
in
the
last
six
months.
So
it's
it's
wonderful
that
we
can
improve
this
facility
for
them,
I'm
really
proud
to
live
in
ames.
Every
time
I
come
to
one
of
these
ceremonies.
C
A
Well,
that
concludes
our
our
groundbreaking
ceremony.
Thank
you
all
for
coming
and
we
look
forward
to
successful
completion
of
this
project
and,
as
as
sarah
mentioned,
I
want
to
thank
dwayne
and
sarah
for
your
efforts
on
this.
We
we
can't
do
this
without
all
the
different
volunteers
on
the
boards
and
commissions,
and
I
felt
like
gosh
she's
out
here,
beating
the
drum
for
boards
and
commission
application.
That's
true!
A
It's
really
an
important
aspect.
Every
every
january
we
take
applications
and
usually
there's
about
20
to
30
openings
every
year,
so
encourage
people
to
consider
applying,
and
I
think
that,
as
sarah
and
duane
would
attest,
it
is
really
rewarding
and
enriching
and
to
see
what's
going
on
in
the
community.
So
thank
you
for
coming
and
have
a
great
rest
of.
