Meet Moose. This five-month old male German Shepherd puppy is recovering from a stab wound and other injuries he received from an abusive human. After Moose had an accident inside the home, the pup was attacked with a knife and thrown in a large trash bin. Moose was discovered in the dumpster (along with the little moose stuffed toy) and rushed to Iowa State University for emergency veterinary care. "Moose continues to improve each day," said Animal Control Supervisor Ron Edwards. "His sweet nature and youth are helping him heal."
Emergency care of Moose will likely cost several thousand dollars, and the Ames Animal Shelter is seeking assistance in paying Moose's veterinary bills. Criminal charges are pending against Moose's former owner.

Credit card donations are accepted over the telephone by calling 515.239.5530. Donations can also be made directly at the Animal Shelter. The Ames Animal Shelter does not have an online method to receive donations, but does have a wish list on Amazon. Every donations helps. If you are not able to donate, please share with your friends and family.

Francine came to us as a stray in pretty bad shape. She had skin issues that required medicated baths and severe ear infections that had been overlooked for a long time. Francine’s ears are painful and will continue to become infected due to the shape of her ear canals, so we will need to get her surgery that will reconstruct her ear canals (Total Ear Canal Ablasion surgery.) This surgery will cost approximately $2,500 and we are asking for your help! We need to raise at least $2,500 to cover the costs of Francine’s surgery. Any amount will help and you can make the donation by mail, phone, or in person at the animal shelter. She is an amazing dog and will make a fantastic companion for any family. We are accepting applications on Francine until her surgery has been completed, and then the best forever home for Francine will be selected.

Today we are asking for your help. We need passionate, caring donors to help us save these animals. Even the smallest donation can make the difference in the life of a homeless animal.
In this video, you’ll hear Greta’s story. We need to raise $1,000 so Greta can receive the surgery she needs. And you’ll also hear the story of Sienna, whose life has already been saved by generous donations and caring hearts.
In addition to the story of Greta and Sienna, there are many more stories we could tell. There’s Mario, who’s severely damaged eye had to be removed to prevent further deterioration and pain. Or Lady, who was so severely frostbitten that portions of her ears and tail had to be removed and ointment had to be applied to her damaged paw pads. So many lives have been saved thanks to our donors. And we want to continue to save them. All donations beyond the $1,000 we raise for Greta will benefit animals like Sienna, Mario, and Lady who need enhanced medical care.
