A
Hello
and
thank
you
for
tuning
in
to
this
episode
of
animals
and
Ames.
My
name
is
Ron
Edwards
I'm,
the
animal
control
supervisor
here
for
the
Ames,
Animal
Shelter
and
animal
control
program.
Our
first
two
guests
here
today
is
Tootsie.
This
is
the
mom.
She
is
an
Abyssinian
guinea
pig.
She
is
about
six
months.
Old
is
what
we
understand
she
was
surrendered
to
us.
They
had
too
many,
and
unfortunately
it
was
a
male
and
female
situation.
So
here
we
ended
up
with
reign
reign
is
about
four
months
old.
A
She
is
the
daughter
here
to
twits
II.
They
are
bonded
buddies,
not
just
mom
and
daughter,
but
they
need
to
be
adopted
together.
Having
guinea
pigs
is
very
important,
that
they
have
a
bond,
a
buddy
with
them
and,
as
you
can
see
here,
they
are,
they
could
care
less.
What
I'm
saying
they
are
just
really
happy
to
be
eating
their
green
leafy
vegetables.
There
right
now,
they're
eating
some
Italian
parsley.
A
Vitamin
C
is
extremely
important
to
their
diet,
so
these
green
leafy
vegetables
are
very,
very
important
to
them,
and
you
can
see
they
are
just
eaten
right
through
that
stuff.
Guinea.
Pigs
are
great
pets
to
have,
but
we
also
want
to
make
sure
that
they
go
to
the
right
home.
So
we
want
all
of
our
potential
adopters
to
make
sure
you
check
out
guinea
pig
manual
comm.
It's
an
amazing
website,
I
put
together
by
people
that
really
know
how
to
care
for
these
guys
properly
to
make
sure
that
all
of
their
needs
are
met.
A
You
want
to
make
sure
you
have
a
lot
of
space
for
them,
oftentimes
the
cages
that
you
may
find
in
a
local
pet
store
or
innapropriate
they're,
too
small,
and
especially
when
you
have
a
bonded
pair
like
this
mom
and
daughter,
you
need
to
make
sure
that
they
have
quite
a
bit
of
space
to
be
in
there
together.
So
again,
guinea
pigs
can
be
great
pets.
They
do
require
a
lot
of
care.
It
takes
a
lot
to
keep
their
their
living
environment
clean
every
day.
A
You
want
to
make
sure
your
go
with
you:
go
through
and
you're
cleaning
out
their
living
quarters,
making
sure
they
always
have
fresh
water,
Timothy,
hey
as
well
as
their
green,
leafy
vegetables
and
there's
some
other
treats
that
they
can
get.
But
treats
are
really
just
supposed
to
be
a
very
limited
type,
but
again
guinea
pig
Manuel
will
give
you
all
of
that
information
on
how
to
care
for
these
guys.
So
so
we
know
for
sure
that
this
is
mom
here,
and
this
is
the
daughter.
A
Vitamin
C
is
extremely
important
to
their
livelihood,
so
check
out
guinea
pig
manual
comm.
If
you're
interested
in
adopting
these
guys
and
then
come
on
down,
you
can
meet
them
here
at
the
shelter
we'll.
Have
you
fill
out
an
adoption
application
first
and
see?
If
maybe
these
two
guys,
these
two
gals
here
will
fit
into
your
family.
A
And
our
next
guest
today
is
one
of
our
working
cats.
This
is
a
Lonni.
Aulani
is
a
neutered
male.
We
have
him
here
in
the
feral
cat
box.
He's
probably
really
stressed
here,
so
we're
gonna
make
this
really
quick.
We
do
have
a
working
cat
program
and
these
are
cats
that
will
live
primarily
outdoors
but
will
have
a
place
to
go
inside,
especially
during
the
cold
weather
that
we
have
here
and
even
the
really
warm
weather
having
a
place
to
get
out
of
the
elements
and
provide
a
service
to
you.
A
That
is
not
frozen
and
food
available
to
them,
but
their
sole
purpose
is
to
help
to
provide
some
rodent
deterrents,
so
not
necessarily
they're
going
to
live
on
mice
and
rats,
but
that
the
smell
of
them
will
help
keep
them
away
from
your
farm.
Your
farm
area
may
be
feeding
barns
things
like
that,
so
we
do
have
a
working
camp.
A
So
if
you're
interested
in
a
working
cat,
we
do
have
an
apple
for
working
cats,
you
can
call
the
shelter
you
can
come
down
to
the
shelter.
We
can
show
you
them
here
at
the
shelter.
But
obviously
these
are
not
the
kind
of
cats
that
we
can
get
out
and
let
you
pet,
because
you
can't
pet
these
cats
they're
there
to
provide
a
service,
and
it's
a
life-saving
program
that
we're
very
proud
of
here
at
the
Ames
Animal
Shelter.
A
And
our
final
guest
for
today
is
socks.
Socks
is
a
very
special
kitty.
I
know
all
of
them
are,
but
socks
came
to
us.
He
was
an
owner
surrender.
He
is
a
special-needs
kitty.
Socks
is
positive
for
feline
immunodeficiency
virus,
so
FIV,
which
is
a
feline
immune,
compromised
disease
similar
to
HIV
in
people.
So
don't
let
FIV
completely
scare
you
out
of
adopting
us
beautiful
kitty.
We
want
people
to
do
some
research
about
it.
There's
been
a
lot
of
new
studies
on
these
cats.
A
I
personally,
myself
have
an
FIV
positive
cat
at
my
house,
and
we
see
here
that
socks
is
a
little
bit
stressed
out.
So
I'm
just
gonna,
let
him
if
he
wants
to
jump
down
and
run
around
on
the
floor,
we'll
let
him
he.
This
is
the
first
time
he's
been
in
this
room
here
and
you
know
all
of
this
is
a
new
experience
for
him.
A
Unfortunately,
he
is
declawed
on
all
four
feet,
so
he
tends
to
react
a
little
bit
differently
than
a
cat
that
had
claws
would
so
like
I
said
if
he
decides,
he
wants
to
jump
down
and
check
out
the
room,
we'll
go
ahead,
and
let
him
do
that
and
I'll
finish
talking
about
him
here.
But
so
sock
is
a
very
special
cat
so
that
FIV
positive
you
want
to
talk
to
your
vet
before
you
decide
to
adopt
a
cat.
A
That's
FIV
positive,
make
sure
that
you
understand
kind
of
what
you
need
to
do
to
help
care
for
them.
So
socks
is
an
important
kitty
to
make
sure
you
understand
what
you're
adopting
and
what
you're
getting
into,
especially
because
he
is
all
four
declawed.
So
we
know
when
we've
seen
it
here
in
the
shelter
time
after
time
that
cats
that
are
declawed
tend
to
be
a
little
bit
more
mouthy,
and
that
is
one
of
the
definitely
the
possibilities
for
him
spreading
FIV
to
another
cat,
so
probably
best
to
look
for
a
home.
A
Where
he's
going
to
be
the
only
kitty
in
the
home
he's
a
beautiful
gray
and
white
cat
on
a
larger
side,
but
definitely
friendly,
he
hasn't
been
anything
but
friendly.
Here,
I
think
he's
just
a
little
bit
overwhelmed
here
in
this
room
with
all
the
smells
of
the
other
cats
that
have
been
here
before
him.
So
again,
please
do
some
research
about
FIV
and,
if
you're
interested
in
this
beautiful
kitty
come
on
down
here
to
the
shelter
and
we'd
love
to
introduce
you
to
him.
A
When
I
thank
everybody
for
watching
today's
show,
remember
that's
just
a
sampling
of
the
animals.
We
have
available
for
adoption
very
happy
to
report
again
that
all
of
our
dogs
have
been
adopted.
So
we
do
have
a
few
strays
that
we're
waiting
for
the
owners
to
come
forward
on.
But
we
have
several
cats.
We
have
a
pair
of
bunnies
that
are
still
looking
for
their
forever
home
and
the
guinea
pigs
that
you
just
saw
on.
A
For
all
the
animals
here
at
the
shelter
so
definitely
keep
tuned
to
animals
and
Ames
and
check
out
our
website,
Ames
animal
shelter
or
as
well
as
our
Facebook
page,
which
is,
of
course,
facebook.com
Ames
Animal
Shelter,
and
will
keep
people
updated
on
the
progress
and
hope
that
we
get
that
report
back
from
them
within
about
six
months
or
so
and
hopefully
from
there
be
able
to
make
some
improvements
to
help
care
for
the
animals
here,
that's
part
of
our
community.
So
again,
thank
you.
