Description
Meet gerbils Flopsy & Mopsy, rats Luna & Star, and Nessa the cat. If you adopt the gerbils or rats, their cages are included!
A
Hello
and
thank
you
for
tuning
in
to
this
episode
of
animals
and
names.
My
name
is
Ron
Edwards
I'm,
the
animal
control
supervisor
here
for
the
Ames,
Animal,
Shelter
and
animal
control
program.
Our
first
two
guests
with
us
today
are
Flopsy
and
Mopsy.
These
are
both
two
one-year-old
approximately
one
year
old,
female
gerbils.
They
were
surrendered
to
us.
Someone
got
them
from
a
pet
store
and
decided
they
didn't
have
enough
time
to
keep
them
cared
for
and
spend
time
with
them.
This
is
actually
a
decent
sized
setup
for
them.
A
So
you
have
the
upper
section
here
that
provides
them
a
place
to
run
around
climb
on
these
bars,
and
then
you
have
the
aquarium
down
here
that
has
their
food.
You
can
see
they're
both
sitting
there
enjoying
some
food
and
that
thing
they're
holding
their
food
there
to
me
is
just
one
of
the
cutest
things
in
the
world.
With
these
guys
they
are
very
social
animals,
they're
good
pets,
for
you
know,
maybe
a
little
bit
older
child.
A
That's
just
learning
how
to
care
for
something
they're,
usually
very
tame,
but
they
do
require
a
lot
of
work.
So
definitely
need
the
adults
and
the
moms
and
dads
to
step
in
to
help
care
for
these
guys,
because
you
want
to
make
sure
that
their
living
environment
is
kept
clean,
make
sure
they
always
have
fresh
food
access
to
fresh
water,
which
you
can
see
up
here
in
the
top
section
here.
Is
a
nice
water
bottle
there
full
of
fresh
water
very
important
for
them.
A
They
can
also
have
different
green
leafy
vegetables,
just
like
our
rabbits
do
so.
These
two
are
available
for
adoption.
They
were
surrendered
with
this
setup
here,
so
we're
willing
to
send
this
setup
home
with
somebody,
but
you
wouldn't
Lee
one.
Do
some
research
on
having
gerbils
find
out
all
that
information
before
you
come
down
here
to
adopt
we'll?
Have
you
come
down,
fill
out
an
application
and
you
can
spend
a
little
bit
of
time
with
them,
but
they
are
pretty
neat
little
creatures,
they're
fun,
to
watch.
A
There's
some
really
neat
YouTube
videos
out
there
that
shows
how
to
care
for
them
how
to
provide
the
environment
that
they
need
to
thrive
in
so
really
neat
creatures
that
we
get
here
at
the
Ames
Animal
Shelter.
It's
not
dogs
and
cats.
We
get
all
kinds
of
creatures
here
and
you're.
Gonna
meet
some
rats.
Next.
A
And
our
next
two
guests
today
are
Luna
and
Starr.
They
were
surrendered
to
us.
They
are
domestic
rats
very
friendly
and
social
creatures,
actually
pretty
easy
to
care
for
as
well.
Sometimes
they
say
these
make
good
pets
for
younger
kids,
but
not
too
young,
again
very
social
animals,
this
one's
kind
of
hanging
out
a
little
hammock
up
there.
These
are
bonded
sisters,
they're
about
7
months
old,
and
they
were
surrendered
to
us
because
the
owner
was
no
longer
able
to
provide
the
care
for
them.
A
They
were
actually
purchased
to
be
able
to
help
thee
with
their
son.
He
who's
autistic,
but
it
just
didn't
work
out
for
the
family,
so
they
surrendered
him
here
for
us
to
adopt
him
out
to
a
home.
These
guys
will
come
with
this
cage
here
again
very
important
for
them
that
they
have
the
fresh
water
at
all
times.
They
have
appropriate
food.
A
They
also
like
the
green
veggies
as
well,
so
lots
of
information
on
the
internet
about
caring
for
rats
and
how
to
make
sure
you're
providing
all
that
they
need,
but
they're
really
fun
to
watch
I
mean
they
spend
a
lot
of
time.
They'll
play
with
each
other,
they'll
run
up
and
down
they
get
up
in
their
hammock
together
and
they'll
sleep,
and
but
just
again,
very
social
creatures
and
just
make
can
make
some.
A
You
know
good
pets
if
you're
looking
for
something
like
that,
so
if
you're
interested
in
rats,
these
two
are
again
are
bonded,
so
they
do
have
to
be
adopted
together
and
we'll
close
that
up.
So
they
don't
go
for
a
walk.
They
do
have
to
be
adopted
together
because
they
are
bonded
and
separating
them
would
not
be
good
for
them,
so
want
to
make
sure
that
they
find
a
place
where
they
can
be
together.
A
And
our
next
guest
today
is
Nessa.
Nessa
came
in
to
us
as
a
stray.
She
is
a
beautiful,
long,
hair,
gray
kitty.
We
estimate
that
she's
just
about
eight
months,
so
essentially
she's
still
pretty
much
a
kitten
herself,
so
she
was
a
late
model
from
2018,
but
she
is
a
beautiful
kitty,
very,
very
friendly
love,
socializing
and
petting.
She
was
actually
just
paid
yesterday,
so
she
just
came
back
from
the
vet
and
is
doing
well.
A
She
does
have
all
of
her
claws
and,
of
course,
our
policy
here
is
that
we
want
to
make
sure
she
keeps
those
she
was
born
with
them
and
want
to
make
sure
that
she
keeps
them
with
her.
She
we
also
want
to
make
sure
that
Nessa
is
always
going
to
be
an
indoor
cat,
so
she's
never
going
to
end
up
at
a
shelter
again
and
even
oh
yes,
I
know.
A
Even
if,
if
there
was
an
accident
and
she
got
out,
we
want
to
make
sure
that
she's
identified,
and
so
we
make
sure
that
she
has
a
microchip
before
she
goes
home,
she's,
paying
attention
to
all
the
different
mice,
early
I'm,
sorry,
the
gerbils
and
rats
that
we
have
out
there
she's
looking
out
at
them
very
interested
in
those
guys.
So
you
can't
get
to
those
vanessa.
Is
a
beautiful
cat
here,
looking
for
her
forever
home
at
the
Ames
Animal
Shelter?
A
A
Well,
that's
our
show
for
today
and
again,
that's
just
a
very
small
sampling
of
the
animals
we
have
available
for
adoption
here
at
the
Ames
Animal
Shelter.
In
addition
to
the
two
gerbils
that
you
saw,
we
do
have
another
one.
Who
is
a
separate
one?
That's
all
by
herself.
Her
name
is
Cottontail
and
you
can
see
her
on
our
website
as
well
as
all
the
animals.
We
recently
done
a
little
bit
of
an
upgrade
to
our
website.
A
So
take
a
look
when
you
get
a
chance
at
Ames,
animal
shelter,
org,
lots
of
information
and
pictures
of
the
animals
that
are
here
at
the
shelter
either
waiting
for
their
owners
to
reclaim
them
or
waiting
for
their
forever
homes.
I
mean,
as
I
close
I,
just
want
to
say
a
very
special
thank
you
to
Kevin,
who
is
the
wine
and
spirits
manager
at
the
East
Lincoln
high
V,
for
putting
on
the
7th
annual
wine
and
pause
the
event
for
the
animal
shelter.
