From YouTube: At Your Library
Description
Mary discusses new programming coming in November to the Ames Public Library
A
Well,
as
I
said
today,
I'm
really
thrilled
to
have
two
visitors
with
me
to
talk
about
some
programs
that
are
upcoming
in
november
at
your
library.
I've
got
both
Joe
Collins
hi
Joe
and
Barb
Wallin,
each
of
them
from
agencies,
institutions
outside
of
Ames
public
library
that
share
with
the
library
a
mission
to
serve
the
public
and
I
thought
that
this
would
be
a
great
opportunity
for
you
to
learn
from
the
experts.
The
content
of
the
programming
that's
going
to
be
happening
in
november.
A
B
So
Joe
Collins
I
work
for
Iowa
work,
central
Iowa,
which
is
a
workforce
center
in
Des
Moines
located
in
east
village.
We
are
funded
through
our
workforce
development,
but
the
reason
we're
not
called
I
workforce
development
is
because
of
at
our
center.
We
offer
kind
of
a
360
degree
view
when
it
comes
to
employment,
so
we
have
Job
Corps
on
site.
We
have
people
that
work
with
veterans,
the
disabled,
a
native
american
indian
council,
iowa
financial
aid.
B
So
it's
not
just
our
workforce
development
and
what
we've
decided
to
do-
and
you
know
I
know
he
reached
out
to
us
and
we're
happy
to
begin
offering
services
up
here
is
offering
some
of
our
free
workshops
here,
primarily
three
of
them,
focusing
on
trying
to
help
your
community
locate
a
job
actually
win
the
job
so
get
the
job
and
then
keep
the
job.
That's.
A
Great
and
as
you
as
you
say,
we
here
at
the
library
because
we
do
provide
programming
for
adults.
That's
part
of
the
mission
of
the
work
group
that
that
I
work
with
adult
services
we've
been
batting
around
the
idea
for
months,
if
not
years,
that
we
really
ought
to
help
folks
who
need
some
extra
assistance
with
the
job
process,
and
we
help
people
on
the
public
computers
all
the
time,
and
we
can
see
that
there
are
questions
about
resume,
writing
and
questions
about
how
to
apply
for
a
job
etc.
A
B
So
we
offer
close
to
20
different
ones
and
our
Des
Moines
office,
and
we
want
to
focus
on
the
three
kind
of
pronged
attack
like
I
sort
of
mentioned,
but
the
first
will
be
a
class
on
resumes,
so
the
dudes,
the
don'ts.
What
goes
on
at
what
does
not
go
on
it's
a
very
different
world,
how
the
resume
tis,
actually
a
small
piece
of
the
puzzle.
Our
second
class
is
going
to
be
on
applying
for
jobs
online.
B
So
if
you've
applied
for
jobs
recently,
you
know
it's
not
on
paper
anymore,
it's
all
on
a
computer,
even
if
the
job
is
nothing
to
do
with
a
computer,
you
still
have
to
be
able
to
navigate
a
little
bit,
so
that
goes
through
again
kind
of
the
do's
and
don'ts
the
things
that
trip
people
up
the
most
and
then
working
with
electronic
documents
and
emails.
Uploading
downloading.
Attaching
so
we
go
through
that
and
then
our
third
is
the
interview,
the
almighty
interview,
a
lot
of
people
think
the
resume
get
you
the
job.
B
It's
really
the
interview
so
that
class
again
is
kind
of
the
insider
information
we've
learned
about
when
an
employer
says
this.
What
does
that
mean?
How
do
I
answer
that?
If
I
have
this
red
flag
or
this
criminal
history?
Something
like
that?
How
do
I
bring
that
up
in
a
professional
manner
and
articulate
that
to
actually
get
the
job?
And
then
those
three
are
offered
in
the
mornings
and
we're
doing
it?
The
first
three
fridays
of
November
from
10
to
noon.
B
So
those
are
the
lecture
based
classes
and
then
the
afternoons
for
each
of
those
those
days
is
actually
an
open
computer
lab
for
resume
help
from
one
to
three.
So
that's
every
day
but
or
every
of
the
the
three
Friday
afternoons
where
we'll
have
at
least
two
I
will
work
force
development
staff
on
hand,
helping
people
with
resumes.
That's.
A
Though
happen
on
a
Tuesday,
so
we're
experimenting
with
different
days
of
the
week
to
try
to
reach
people
at
different
times
that
make
sense
for
them.
So
I
believe
it's
in
December,
the
first
three
tuesdays
you're
in
December
and
those
dates
are
the
first,
the
eighth
and
the
fifteenth
great
okay,
and
it
will
follow
the
same
sequence.
A
C
Isu
extension
is
the
outreach
arm
of
the
University
and
it's
our
job
to
bring
non-commercial
non-political,
research-based
quality
information
to
the
people
of
Iowa
and
I
work
with
the
human
sciences
extension.
My
position
is
as
a
family,
finance,
specialist,
so
I
do
a
lot
of
teaching
and
providing
educational
opportunities
and
resources
related
to
financial
topics
and
I.
A
C
Insurance
enrollment
season
starts
November
first
and
choosing
health
insurance
is
something
that
most
Americans
never
have
had
to
do.
They
either
had
it
or
they
didn't,
and
they
took
what
they
got.
I
mean
they
were
just
grateful
to
have
it
if
they
had
health
insurance
and
some
of
your
clients,
who
don't
have
jobs,
may
be
concerned
about
finding
health.
C
C
C
So
it's
designed
for
anybody
who
needs
to
buy
insurance
on
their
own,
who
doesn't
have
it
through
their
job
and
some
of
the
people
you
work
with
looking
for
jobs,
may
be
saying:
well,
I,
don't
know
if
I
want
to
work
for
that
employer
because
they
don't
offer
insurance.
Small
employers
often
don't
or
aren't
able
to
offer
insurance,
but
the
marketplace
makes
it
possible
for
people
to
get
insurance,
hopefully
at
an
affordable
cost,
regardless
of
what's
available
through
their
job.
Mm-Hmm.
A
A
A
C
A
A
We've
got
to
got
to
deliver,
so
we
are
going
ahead
and
doing
your
program
on
a
saturday
morning
from
10
until
12
and
we're
hoping
that
that
will
be
a
time
when
you
know
people
who
would
benefit
from
this
information
will
slip
over
to
the
library
and
just
take
a
couple
of
hours
to
work
through.
It's
called
smart
choice,
which
I
really
love
the
name
of
the
of
the
program,
because
that's
what
we're
hoping
people
it
would
lead
people
to
make
the
smart
choice
in
terms
of
their
health
care
options.
C
And
we
do
have
this
workshop.
That
curriculum
was
tested
in
a
really
strong
way
by
a
national
extension
team
that
designed
the
curriculum,
and
we
do
have
evidence
that
people
leave
the
workshop
with
better
knowledge
and
better
confidence
to
make
good
decisions.
And
so
we
do
think
that
the
title
is
is
well
well
deserved.
That
people
will
be
better
able
to
make
a
smart
choice.
Well,.
A
So
much
of
what
we
do
at
the
library
with
programming,
more
and
more,
is
to
work
with
partners
such
as
you
know.
Iowa
works
and
iowa
state
university
outreach
an
extension
to
bring
really
vital
information
to
the
community,
so
people
can
really
benefit.
You
know,
may
help
them
make
changes
in
their
life
and
I
can
hardly
think
of
anything
more
vital
than
work
and
insurance.
I
mean
these
are
just
such
such
essential
issues.
Joe
with
your
series
of
programs.
A
We
talked
about
whether
or
not
to
have
people
registered
and
what
we've
decided
is
kind
to
request
that
they
register,
but
we're
not
absolutely
requiring
it.
The
program
is
going
to
be
in
November
in
our
auditorium,
which
is
a
very
large
space,
with
lots
of
lots
of
room
and
we've
got
a
limited
number
of
laptops,
but
we
a
good
number
so
I'm,
hoping
that
folks
will.
B
A
B
Our
center,
we
work
primarily
I,
would
say,
with
people
that
are
unemployed.
Looking
for
work,
it's
a
very
confusing
world.
You
know
resumes
health
insurance,
you
don't
you
know,
people
don't
it'll.
The
average
person
on
a
daily
basis
doesn't
talk
about
these
things
and
they
wouldn't
have
that
insider
information
that
we
have.
So
it's
really
anybody,
but
I
would
say
primarily
people
that
are
unemployed
or
maybe
you're
just
unhappy
with
the
current
job.
There.
A
B
A
C
The
primary
audience
is
any
adults
who
are
looking
for
health
insurance
and
that
can
be
young
people.
It
can
be
people
who
are
self-employed
or
work
for
small
employers.
It
also
can
be
people
who
have
retired
early
before
Medicare
age
and
need
to
be
covered
for
that
interim,
or
maybe
they
want
to
try
their
own
business.
C
One
thing
about
the
availability
of
insurance
in
the
marketplace
means
that
people
who
really
have
wanted
to
start
a
business
but
didn't
dare
leave
their
job
because
there
they
had
guaranteed
insurance
that
overrode
any
any
health
health
issues
they
might
have.
Well
now,
we've
got
guaranteed
insurance,
regardless
of
health
history,
so
people
do
have
that
freedom
to
to
explore
those
options.
So
even
people
who
have
insurance
currently
but
are
considering
other
employment
options,
might
find
this
very
useful.
C
The
employer
thing
we
are
not
going
to
kisan
what
employers
need
to
know
in
order
to
offer
insurance
to
their
employees
through
their
work,
but
employers
who
don't
offer
insurance
might
really
want
to
either
come
themselves
or
encourage
their
employees
to
come
so
that
they
can
learn
or
if
the
employer
comes,
then
they
can
be
equipped
to
guide
their
folks.
We
don't
provide
direct
help
in
signing
up
for
insurance,
although
we
provide
a
lot
of
the
principles,
the
key
things
people
need
to
note
and
to
think
about,
but
we
will
also
make
sure
Pete.
C
A
A
There's
so
much
information
and
I
really
do
so.
Much
appreciate
that
both
of
you
are
here
today
talking
about
what
we've
got
to
look
forward
to
and
I
am
just
so
thrilled
that
the
that
your
employer's
see
the
library
as
a
partner
and
I
hope
that
we
continue
to
work
together,
because
we
have
this
wonderful
facility
and
we
share
a
mission.
But
we
are
not
the
experts
I.
C
C
A
B
So
I
would
just
challenge
people
to
come
check
out
the
library
I
mean
this
is
amazing:
holy
cow.
You
know,
I,
look
back
to
when
I
was
in
school
and
what
libraries
were
and
I
think
about.
Like
a
dark
dingy.
You
know
like
book,
you
know
a
sort
of
thing
man
this
place
is
like.
It
blew
my
mind
when
I
came
here,
so
this
is
amazing
what
you
did
and
it
kind
of
breaks
that
stereotype.
So
if
anybody
just
has
never
been
to
the
new
library,
I
would
recommend
they
come.
A
A
A
A
I'm,
so
glad
that
Joe
and
Barb
came
today
to
talk
with
you
about
some
really
quality
programming
that
we
have
on
the
calendar
in
November.
As
you
heard
in
our
discussion,
we
are
requesting
that
you,
let
us
know
in
advance,
if
you're
interested
in
attending
any
of
the
Iowa
works
series
of
sessions
in
November
or
the
iowa
state
university,
outreach
and
extension
smart
choice
program
in
november.
If
you
want
to
register,
give
us
a
call
at
two
three:
nine
five,
six,
four
six
and
choose
number
four
for
adult
services
and
reference.
A
Then
you
will
get
right
to
our
desk.
Where
we'll
be
keeping
registration
paperwork,
you
can
always
send
us
an
email
by
clicking
on
ask
a
librarian
link
on
the
library's
website
and
we'll
be
sure
to
get
you
registered.
That
way
and
just
helpful
for
us
to
have
an
idea
of
how
many
people
are
likely
to
come
to
the
program.
A
If
it
turns
out
that
you
have
a
last
minute
just
to
make
a
last
minute
decision
to
attend
by
all
means,
you
are
welcome
to
do
so,
but
if
you
know
in
advance
that
would
really
be
helpful
to
us.
We
have
a
lot
going
on
at
the
library,
as
always
and
I
hope
that
you'll
pick
up
a
copy
of
page
one
when
you're
in
the
library,
as
it
contains
all
details
about
what's
happening
in
adult
services,
youth
services,
teen
services
at
the
library
we
publish
this
monthly
if
you
want
to
have
a
daily
update
on.
A
What's
going
on
to
the
library
of
course
check
the
library's
facebook
page,
if
you
haven't
already
done
so
like
us
and
you'll,
be
getting
regular
updates
and
hear
what's
happening
at
the
library
as
well
as
get
some
other
fun
information
shared
through
our
library,
facebook
page,
which
can
become
a
regular
part
of
your
day.
Well,
once
again,
I'm
just
so
thrilled
to
have
the
chance
to
talk
with
you.
This
is
Mary
Logsdon
at
your
library.
