Hi, I'm a real august- and here I am at your library.

Today, at your library, we're going to feature some.

Love the books that we have at the library on.

The subject ever gardening- don't know about you.

But I am ready to get outdoors through.

Well, as I told you today, we have with us another one: have the librarians hearings, public library I and ii.

A

Last month, I'm I sat down with justin and we talked about the e-books.

A

That we have here at the library I'm today, I'm.

A

Seeing that it is daylight savings time, and it's actually.

A

Spraining, I believe, there's been a thaw outdoors on what time it will be a great.

A

Time to talk a little bit about sum up: the gardening books we have at the library I'm, but before we do, I just.

Wanted to let our viewers know that and is responsible for a lot of different things here at the library and you.

Probably recognize her as someone I've, the folks at the information desk and answers, questions on a regular basis.

I'm you also buy a lotta books for the library.

Knowledge on her fiction and mystery is the science fiction.

Is that covers a lot of different things? It's in library landing early.

Tend to think things and terms and do a decimal numbers and.

One other things I buy are the gardening books and they're in the 635.

And just two kinda point out the range of things we have in that area. We own.

Over 772 books, wow in the 635, covering a variety.

%Uh gardening topics, which seems appropriate today, like you, said we're.

Getting a little flaw after this never-ending later, I think people are starting to think a little bit about.

B

Gardening definitely have some of our newer gardening books here today. Super.

um I think from since you selected some.

I are you going to be up: can you share little bit about each? Are they new books.

A

Are they um well just want just tell us what's special about okay, once you have here.

Bizarre books added this year or last year, so we have some of our newer titles. Three.

And this view that we picked our here just because they.

B

Use or to represent the range of things that you're fine in gardening books.

B

We have all the basic sorts, a you know how to plan your garton.

B

What plans to pick things like that I'll.

B

Everything a basic brand new, you know if you're coming to a brand-new, you would.

B

Need and also things for the release, the skated gardner, the master gardener that sort of thing.

B

And these are just some other more. I think unusual things that we have in the.

B

I'm intrigued by the the a.m.

Jacket on this top one is still nice. Looking book, this one is called.

Seed swap nice, the gardener's guide to saving.

B

And swapping see in the evening- and this is the book that includes the historia.

B

Seed saving, which is becoming kinda worldwide, sorta.

B

Phenomenon and talks about seed, harvesting and saving techniques.

B

And it gives you a step-by-step guide to create your own seed bank and then also.

B

Something that's becoming more and more popular in various communities is a.

B

Community seed swap and it gives instructions on how to set up that kind.

B

Any and it just looks like a row a real fun, but for.

B

Gardeners who they they work really hard to a cultivate, the the kind the plants they want in their garden that go with the.

B

Kind of climate we have been produce what they want, and so it's very important to say the scenes and it's a.

B

Fun way to to share what you've created with other gardeners, what's nice about, that is.

You know that it's something that successful right, somebody else has grown.

A

It and that's- that's, really, terrific and I'm assuming that builders. It's well illustrated most gardening books yet to.

Be well illustrated, yes,.

A

A terrific I'm what's next, but next book.

Is this is getting out in gardening with your children? This is called for.

B

Touch a butterfly wildlife gardening, with kids.

B

And this is a way to create an outdoor space.

B

That will attract all those kinda fun things that kids are interested in birds.

Butterflies tolls worms all that kind of cool stuff that kids can go out and.

B

Really learn about nature right in their backyard. It's a fun way to.

Interact with your kids and we have to %uh several books on this topic.

Really- and I think it will be a fun thing to do with.

B

Some young children, it's interesting, we think about parenting, books and there's.

A certain area, the library where we have parenting book, search for books about child development and those sorts of things, but parenting in the garden is some.

A

Kinda, nice and isometric angle, yet that I guess well.

A

Thank you for sharing that on this next one is kinda. Intriguing to me is come.

The beautiful edible guard- this is for the gardener, who knows that you wanna grow food, but.

B

You really don't want your yard to look like a farm.

B

You don't want to tear it up. You still want to have a beautiful yard in your.

B

Neighborhood- and this shows you how to use vegetables fruits.

B

Herbs in really attractive ways, you're still.

B

Getting the benefit of growing all those those.

B

Nice and good things, but your yard still looks pretty.

B

Here, a something this one has all kinds of ideas for.

B

Not just your backyard, where maybe no one's gonna see about your front yard,.

B

And for containers window boxes that sort of thing that.

B

They failed to make it look pretty and also produce something that you can.

B

Can consume okay? Well, that's nice great.

B

This next one beautiful, no motto yards.

B

Is an interesting one, the the authors says that she's kind of on a crusade to.

B

Get people away from the just think green turf.

B

While on it environmentally, she says that the.

B

Those lines you know take a lot of water and people use.

B

A.M. pesticides right a.

B

That sort of thing on them, and so she is an advocate for these no mo yards and she's, given fifty different.

Arm alternatives, ways you can grow things that look beautiful.

B

Don't take a lot of intervention, she does say, though, that you need to check.

B

With your municipality or every limb to see if there are any.

B

Kinds, a a ordinance another anything about what.

B

You know what your yard can look like, but she offers a lot of alternatives and.

B

She really says in this day and age, when we people don't have much time to take care of.

B

Their lines- and they wanna be a little more environmentally conscious that this is.

B

An interesting interesting way to go. You know it's interesting cuz. I have I'm childhood.

Memories of saturday morning waking up to the sound of on my all the neighbors out mowing their.

Of her going there long and it's interesting that you say you do.

From time to time, walk around town and see.

Yards that are just turned over to plants like.

For example, here I'm and to see that in the front is.

Is really kind of a tree alright and well done not.

Looking on camping at any other user, nicely planned out and.

Look really nice yeah great okay,.

But also got this, one is maybe not one that the.

Individual gardner would be using a lot. This is a a book on.

I'm it's called the professional design guide to green roofs.

And I think we all became aware in iowa anyway,.

B

Green roofs, a lot when the des moines public library several years ago.

B

A went with a green roof in there new design.

B

And this book is a in-depth exploration up, rooftop garden design and the whole.

B

Process behind it has a lot of pictures, a rooftop gardens throughout.

B

The world and shows how they address different environmental issues, but they.

B

Offer aesthetically pleasing kinda places.

B

For people in it it brings people and nature together, often in the.

B

You know in the cityscape room, it's just a.

B

Very interesting, yeah look and thinking and gardening in a different way.

B

Really me, and that could be you send.

Institutional, as well as some and.

A

A green roof adjacent to an apartment building where folks live so.

Interesting one more issue, this other one here is called small space container.

Gardens- and this is a fun way for people who.

B

12 garden, they they don't have a real garden where they have a lot of space.

And they can, we hang out till up the land and everything.

This is for people who want to get their hands dirty and growth, something create.

Something in a in a small space in it tells you how to.

B

Transform your balcony, your porch or patio, by using container.

Gardening and really she shows how to grow just about anything.

In a container fruits, flowers, a just.

Foliage, so that you can have a green space on your patio.

Herbs and I think it's a it's a popular.

A little niche in gardening, because a lot of people.

And I think I would include myself, I don't think I could sustain.

Be featured right, and so I think you have a few them down here. We'll have a.

Couple all there's a set of books that are more just pictorials, a.

Beautiful gardens throughout throughout the world really.

This first one, a rich spot on earth, is.

B

A book about thomas jefferson's garden at monticello- I am the.

B

The head gardener at monticello has recreated jefferson's and garden.

B

Exactly how it was when, when he was.

B

At monticello, it's a beautiful book, lots of color pictures and.

B

Just really interesting to show you what gardening was like during the early 19th.

B

Century what kinda plants are cultivated and so a little history we have regarding our.

A

Okay and that's a book that also is in the gardening section, that it's not how.

A

To do it said something or I'll up a special garden in america. As you said, there are also.

A

World gardens right, and this this takes is a little bit different number in.

B

In the library in the 700 we have.

B

I'll landscape architecture, so some %uh, the sort some books.

B

Up fall in that area too. This one's called the heritage, garden tools.

And it is a another really beautiful book, lotsa.

B

Gorgeous pictures about the most fascinating public and private garden.

B

Restorations in the last century that occurred in the uk and europe and the.

B

United states and this author did extensive research. He went into archives found original.

B

Plans for the the cardinals looked at photographs from the.

B

Time period when the garden thrived in and even paintings,.

B

That time period, so that that.

B

Yet on these guns could be recreated in such a way that.

B

Them made them look like they did originally yeah. It's really pretty.

B

A

A pretty booked, so it's a history as well. So that's great.

And how what about fiction fiction we've got.

B

Well, this first one actually is: this: is a man largo, a memoir, okay,.

B

This one is kinda, but an interesting book about a.

B

A kurt timber, my sister, was a chef and restaurant or.

B

Washington state and he left that business to start.

B

A farm, a small scale farm, he.

B

Had all kinds of projects he did: beekeeping vegetable farming, rom milking.

B

Finally, ended up making all artisanal cheese, but what he did to it to keep this whole thing afloat. Was he.

B

Started preparing weekly meals using everything that he was growing at at.

B

This farm they became quite well known in the area. They were known that known.

B

As the kirkwood farms, cookhouse dinners and this book tells the story.

B

Love all these local legal grown items from his farm.

B

A so from farm to table I'll and its.

B

A really interesting look at that whole movement.

B

From someone who really has a lot of experience with them,.

A

And this is something that is new. So when our new arrivals section, which is.

Just right near to the information desk and it's in a couple section right notes: yeah, okay,.

And how about I'm for those people who dislike.

Their gardening, as a backdrop in fiction, we have several.

B

Mysteries cozy mysteries are those mysteries. The.

B

That, usually don't have.

B

Real violent scenes, yeah there's a there's, a murder, a perc.

B

Otherwise, it would be a mystery, but days off, guard settings.

B

Great, this roots of murder is up.

B

The first in the series about a widowed flower shop.

B

Owner and her name is brenda solomon and this first when she begins to.

B

Investigate the mysterious death and on amish farmer, who's always supplied her with flowers.

B

So this introduces us to this character in there several in this series, so.

B

Free, if you like, to read about mysteries with gardening settings, this is a a good.

B

A

Great- and I also have you have de for the garden past.

B

Is another nice series about gardening.

B

Point that are creepy little budworth, the skull on it here.

B

This doesn't a set not in a rural setting. This is in washington dc.

B

And the main character in these novels is an organic gardener.

B

And in this, when she's frame, firm murder, when environmentalists.

B

A when the environmental slammed up her public television.

B

Program alienates some key people, oswald.

B

So she becomes the target and.

B

Then goes on subsequently in other books just to solve.

B

Garden related mysteries, which I guess there are a lot of those in my hand,.

B

Okay right then, the last 1i have is called the lost gardens, and this isn't.

B

English garden, mystery, and these are actually written by a prize-winning.

B

Rose expert he's written a whole series and the is.

B

In this particular one were back on themore.

B

Restoration gardens and a human skeletal.

B

Is foundering the restoration other up primaries.

B

Garden tools and then the main character, I think, maybe based a little bit on the.

B

Author is an eccentric former professor, but me and was an amateur sleuth, and so he launches his.

B

Investigation and again this is one I'll several in a series.

B

So with you or like this character, you can all read several books.

B

That feature him wonderful, my gosh.

I don't know about those you watching.

A

But I am inspired I to get outdoors.

A

And to start enjoying gardening, I enjoy looking at other people's gardens, and I.

Think it's really a fun idea: I'm to explore some these series books to.

Mystery lovers: what group says we ended on mysteries? I.

How often does that mean that meets once a month for the first wednesday of the.

Month at noon- and we pick the certain of their each month and everyone just reads any title:.

By that author, we get together, discuss the background on the author, discuss our.

Reactions to the the different stories then.

B

It's a it's a real, interesting and diverse kind group. We have a lot of.

Different opinions, re pretty lively discussions, sometimes yeah. These industries.
