Description
The library may be new, but its getting newer! Check out some of the newest additions to your Ames Public Library.
A
Hi
I'm
Mary,
Logsdon
and
once
again
here
I
am
at
your
library
today
at
your
library
I
am
going
to
have
a
special
guest
who
is
very
much
involved
with
making
sure
that
your
aims,
public
library
is
running
smoothly
and
that
everything
is
looking
great
when
you
come
in
to
browse
our
collections
and
take
advantage
of
our
services
and
attend
our
programs.
So
stick
around.
A
So,
as
I
said
today,
I
have
a
special
guest
here
at
the
library
valve
on
el
hi
Belle
I'm,
really
glad
each
of
time
today
to
sit
down
with
me.
I
know
that
you
and
I
chatted
I,
guess
it's
been
over
two
years
ago
now
on
at
your
library,
as
we
were
preparing
for
the
move
out
of
5
15
Douglas
into
our
temporary
location
and
doing
all
the
planning
that
was
involved
for
that.
So.
B
A
Still
here
and
we're
back
if
I
15
Douglas,
so
we
made
the
full
circle,
which
is
great
so
I
just
thought
before
we
go
too
much
further
to
talk
about
today.
Why
don't
you
just
give
us
a
little
bit
of
a
background
about
new
your
history
here
at
the
library,
because
I
know
you
have
worked
in
many
different
roles.
I
have.
A
B
B
I
knew
that
this
was
the
right
match
for
me
and
whenever
there
was
an
opportunity
I
always
made
made
it
known
that
I,
you
know,
I
feel
like
I
really
need
to
pursue
a
career
in
ames,
Public,
Library
and
things
just
kind
unfolded
in
that
way.
So
from
there
I
went
into
a
part-time
salaried
position
working
in
the
circulation
department
as
a
lead
worker.
B
At
that
point,
there
was
an
opening
that
in
outreach
as
the
outreach
manager-
and
we
had
never
had
one
of
those
before
it
was
very
intriguing
I-
do
believe
in
bringing
the
our
library
services
to
people
who
can't
make
it
to
the
library
on
a
traditional
way
and
that
would
have
umbrella
our
projects
miles
home
delivery
as
well
as
our
bookmobile
okay.
So
that
was
a
big
switch.
A
A
B
A
Kind
of
a
similar
fashion,
so
it's
just
been
a
wonderful
place
to
continue
to
grow,
to
change,
which
has
been
very
much
the
story
here
at
the
library
about
the
physical
space
about
growth
and
change.
Now,
I
know
that
during
the
move,
we
don't
want
to
forget
all
those
we're
moving
so
aggressively
forward
because
there's
so
much
exciting.
So
many
exciting
things
happening
here
at
the
library.
But
during
the
move
you
really
played
a
big
role,
and
so
what
are
some
of
the
highlights
for
you?
From
from
that
experience,
the
move
and
the
remove
yeah.
B
Together,
I
guess
the
for
the
move
moving
out
of
here
over
to
our
temporary
space,
the
the
biggest
challenge
that
we
had
and
I
was
working
with
the
removed
team
with
a
move
team
right.
So
it
was
a
team
of
people
that
did
this,
but
the
logistics
of
how
are
we
going
to
get
all
of
the
stuff
from
here
to
there
and
then,
where
are
we
all
going
to
put
it
once
we
get
there
and
it's
got
a
fit.
So
we
did
a
lot
of
measuring
and
layouts
and
figuring.
All
of
that
out.
B
B
B
We
just
didn't
doubt
and
we
kept
that
going
so
I
was
I,
helped
put
the
schedule
together
to
figure
out
who's,
going
to
be
wearing
on
what
days
that
kind
of
thing
to
make
this
all
work
smoothly
and
I
wasn't
alone.
We
all
had
our
fair
pieces
to
put
together,
but
great
team
yeah
to
work
in
and
it
was
successful,
so
I
feel
very
good
about
the
end
result.
A
Good
good
and
then
I
know
that
we
did
spend
a
considerable
amount
of
time
planning
for
the
return,
knowing
that
we
were
going
to
have
an
entirely
new
layout,
different
kinds
of
shelving
on
both
floors.
Two
floors
now
with
the
services
downstairs
adult
services.
Upstairs
we
did
lots
of
planning
to
make
sure
that
all
of
that
measuring
and
planning
for
our
collections
would
again
move
efficiently,
and
then
you
were
involved
with
that
as
well.
A
Right
now
that
we're
in
the
building,
I
think
it's
just
kind
of
interesting
to
observe
that
the
the
planning
and
the
improvements
don't
stop.
So
I
know
that
US
operations,
services
manager
now
are
very
much
involved
with
helping
us
to
make
sure
that
the
library
is
working
well
for
our
customers
before
our
staff.
So
what
kinds
of
things
are
happening
now
in
that
area
in
terms
of
just
the
library,
layout
and
services
and
technology,
with?
What's
going
on
in
your
area?
Right
now,.
B
Well,
before
we
moved
in,
we,
we
all
really
had
to
have.
We
had
assumptions
and
we
had
measurements
like
you
said,
and
we
had
some
statistics
and
things
like
that
that
we
could
work
with,
but
a
great
deal
of
them
were
assumptions.
Now.
These
are
educated
assumptions
I
like
to
say,
because
we
know
our
customers
very
right.
We
also
know
how
we,
as
staff,
are
most
effective
and
efficient.
So
all
of
those
factors
contributed
contributed
to
our
assumptions
and
what
we
ended
up.
B
So
when
we
move
in
and
getting
going
we're
now
in
that
process
that
we're
testing
those
assumptions
right
and
seeing
where
we
correct
what
were
we
thinking
or
those
kinds
of
things
and
then,
of
course,
getting
feedback
from
our
customers
as
well
as
our
staff.
Now
that
we've
been
in
the
space
for
about
six
months,
we've
learned
different
things,
but
we
also
learn.
B
We
were
just
right
spot
on
yeah
on
many
things,
so
we're
in
the
middle
of
all
doing
all
of
that
right
now,
and
it
is
I,
don't
know,
I
opening
to
know
that
we,
we
really
did
choose
correctly
in
so
many
different
ways
and
some
of
the
ways
that
weren't
were
easily
tweet,
because
we
simply
don't
know.
This
is
our
best
guess
right.
Let's
try
it
right,
and
that
was
one
of
our
phrases
that
we
said.
Let's
try
it
right.
A
A
Yeah
and
I
know
that,
since
opening
it's
not
as
though
we
opened
and
everything
was
in
place
and
fixed,
anyone
who
comes
to
the
library
will
often
see
that
there
are
still
some
people
working
on
different
systems,
there's
still
some
furniture
that
has
arrived
over
time.
You
know
that
wasn't
here
initially
one
of
the
things.
One
of
the
features
that's
now
accessible
at
the
library
on
both
floors
is
our
our
catalog.
Our
online
catalog,
which
we
purposefully
have
located
throughout
the
building.
A
B
I
mean,
ideally,
it
would
be
great
if
we
could
have
opened
and
everything
was
in
place,
but
we
knew
that
would
never
be
the
case.
We
wanted
to
open
and
have
the
library
available
and
our
resources
available
as
quickly
as
possible.
We
didn't
want
to
be
closed,
any
longer
a
delay.
So
at
first
we
thought.
Oh,
that's
too
bad,
but
on
the
other
hand
you
know
each
time
you
come
in
each
week.
You
might
find
something
brand-new
again
in
the
library
like
the
pack
stations
or
the
cushions
down,
and
the
youth
plating
down
there
and.
A
B
Forth
just
adding
little
pieces
and
there's
still
more
to
come
so
and
all
of
those
assumptions
keep
going
on
that.
You
know
and
we'll
tweak
those
as
they
arrive
too.
So
it
has
been
exciting
now
for
operations
in
my
work
group
now
I
actually
oversee
shelf
maintenance
is
one
of
the
pieces
that
I
do
and
what
that
means
is
that
all
of
my
library,
aids
we
have
18
of
them
and
that
come
in
and
they
make
sure
that
all
the
books
that
are
returned
to
us
are
1.3
million.
A
B
B
All
of
that
plus
we
have
already,
as
I
said,
we're
ten
singer
assumptions
we're
doing
a
little
shifting,
yes
shifting
here
and
there
to
make
the
space
a
little
more
evenly
so
that
it's
more
inviting
for
our
customers,
we're
going
to
be
doing
that
in
large
print
you're
coming
up
and
just
this
morning
we're
going
to
be
working
on
in
the
DVD
area.
So
there's
always
little
projects
like
that
to
make
things
make
improvements
and.
A
Go
along
well,
I
cannot
tell
you
how
much
we
value
the
work
that
the
library
aids
do
and
you
by
overseeing
that
that
work
area
to
get
books
back.
You
know,
books,
movies,
music,
magazines,
newspapers,
everything,
I'm
back,
puppets
back
on
the
shelves
where
they
belong
in
such
a
fishin
manner.
One
of
the
major
improvements
that
we
were
able
to
put
into
place
here
at
the
library
was
to
invest
in
a
automatic
materials
handling
system
which
many
people
who've
come
to
tour.
A
B
A
B
Has
a
huge
impact,
yeah
library,
aids
I
believe
have
just
have
the
biggest
impact,
I
believe
on
our
customer
service
excellence
yeah.
They
are
on
the
floor
right,
they
are
welcoming
and
they
are
there
to
answer
questions
and
if
they
may
not
be
able
to
answer
the
questions
just
like
night
myself,
I'm
not
always
able
to
answer
questions
we'll
get
them
to
someone
who
knows
how
to
do
it,
so
they
are
quite
an
asset
to
our
organization.
They
absolutely.
A
Are
and
I
know
that
from
the
staff
point
of
view,
I
am
aware
that
we
are
spending
much
less
time,
fetching
books.
We
call
fetching
books,
you
know
how
often
in
the
past,
it
was
the
case
that
folks
would
come
up
to
the
to
the
information
desk
or
speak
with
folks
down
in
the
youth
services
area
and
say
well.
B
A
Find
an
item
on
the
shelf,
so
I
think
that
you're
hitting
those
goals
of
within
24
hours
getting
materials
back
on
the
shelf,
and
that
is
that
is
a
huge
benefit
to
the
community
to
the
community
and
and
then
the
staff
can
spend
more
time
helping
people
with
more
more
challenging
questions
and
information
needs.
And
we
love
working
closely
with
the
library
aides
who
are
up
here,
as
you
say,
available
to
other.
A
Member
who
you
see
wearing
a
book
down
I,
don't
have
on
a
name
tag
if
they
have
on
a
name
tag,
yeah
definitely
engage
with
them.
Are
there
any
other
highlights
about
the
library,
its
services,
its
programs,
its
activities
right
now
that,
as
we're
going
into
this
summer,
that
you
just
want
to
be
sure
to
bug.
A
And
we
really
are
fortunate
to
have
that
to
have
you
in
that
role
and
because
I
think
it
is
a
complicated
operation
here
at
the
library
we
occupy
a
lot
occupy
a
lot
space.
There
are
thousands
of
people
in
and
out
of
here,
weekly,
yes,
and
we
have
so
many
different
things
happening
that
it's
really
a
benefit
to
have
somebody
who's.
Looking
at
the
big
picture,
big
picture
and-
and
so
it's
kind
of
exciting-
to
think
where
you'll
be
five
years
from
now.
What
are
the
issues
will
be
talking
about
five
years
from
now?
Hopefully,.
A
I
do
too
wide
so
appreciate
your
taking
the
time
and
I
know
you
have
to
get
on
to
overseeing
a
shifting
project.
Yes,
I
has
you
just
said
so:
I
appreciate
that
and
I
think
the
customers
will
appreciate
that
as
well.
So
thanks
so
much
Val,
oh
you're,
welcome.
Thank
you
and
now
you'll
see
some
of
the
new
items
we've
recently
added
to
the
Ames
public
library,
collection.
A
A
A
A
So
Val
and
I
talked
about
the
fact
that
we
have
public
library
catalogs
all
around
the
library
in
the
second,
on
the
second
floor,
as
well
as
downstairs
in
our
youth
services
area,
of
course,
and
in
our
welcome
area
by
our
media
box
and
holds
here
I'm
standing
by
our
adult
services
reference
desk,
and
this
is
one
of
the
public
catalogs
that
is
on
all
the
time
at
the
library.
When
you
come
in
for
your
visits.
A
There
are
a
couple
of
features
of
our
library
catalog
that
I
wanted
to
share
with
you
before
we
leave
today,
because
I
think
they
are
just
great
in
helping
folks
to
manage
their
accounts
and
to
really
have
a
successful
library
experience.
As
you
can
see,
I'm
on
the
library,
Amos
public
library,
catalog,
and
there
are
a
lot
of
different
features
on
the
catalog
different
tabs
that
can
take
you
to
different
areas
of
the
library's
collection
for
searching,
etc.
I'm
just
going
to
go
to
my
account.
A
If
you
see
this
tab
here
and
click
on
the
triangle,
which
opens
up
more
options-
and
I
am
going
to
log
in
so
basically
I'm
in
the
library's
catalog
and
I'm
now
going
to
log
into
my
aims-
Public
Library
account.
So
of
course,
I'm
going
to
type
in
my
library,
barcode
or
username.
If
I
have
had
chosen
a
username
in
its
place,
I
could
have
done
that
and
my
password
or
PIN
and
then
login
at
this
point.
I
am
still
in
the
library
catalog,
but
I
am
logged
in
to
my
account.
A
B
A
Activity
date,
and
what
I'm
going
to
point
to
you
here
now
is
the
contact,
information
and
preferences,
because
the
information
that
we
have
about
you,
your
address,
your
phone
number.
Your
email
is
on
this
part
of
the
library
account
information,
please
be
sure
to.
Let
us
know
your
email
address
so
that
we
can
notify
you
if
we
need
to
communicate
with
you
about
fines
or
fees.
That's
really
a
quick
way
for
us
to
do
so
enter
your
phone
number,
of
course,
a
feature
that
not
everyone
is
aware
of.
A
Send
me
a
phone
message
if
you
do
choose
that,
you
want
a
text
message
for
your
library
holds,
please
be
sure
to
indicate
which
carrier
you
use.
So
in
this
way,
as
soon
as
an
item
I
think
it's
twice
the
day.
Actually,
we
send
out
messages
to
customers
that
indicate
that
the
item
that
you
placed
on
hold
is
now
available.
A
Catalog
we've
had
this
for
just
about
a
year
now
this
particular
library
catalog
system
is
that
you
can
now
choose
to
maintain
your
reading
history.
This
is
something
people
have
often
asked
us
if
we
could
check
to
see
what
they
read
two
years
ago,
because
they
want
to
reread
the
item
or
they
want
to
recommend
it
to
a
friend
in
the
past.
A
We
have
not
been
able
to
offer
that
feature,
but
with
this
system
it
is
possible,
but
you
do
have
to
opt
in
so
the
default
when
you
have
a
library
account
is
that
we
do
not
maintain
your
library,
reading
history
for
confidentiality
reasons,
and
so
we've
not
done
that
in
the
past.
But
now,
if
you
choose
to
its
it's
your
choice,
you
can
maintain
your
reading
history,
so
you
would
just
choose
that
box
maintained
reading.
History
is
what
you
need
to
do
and
from
that
point
forward,
you
will
submit
your
change
request.
A
If
you
update
anything
on
your
account
from
that
point
forward,
what
you
checkout
is
going
to
be
something
that
you
can
find
out.
By
going
to
again
my
account
and
my
reading
history,
you
can
even
manage
that
list.
If
there
are
some
items
that
you
don't
really
care
to
keep
on
that
reading
history,
you
don't
anticipate
that
you're
going
to
read
that
book
again
or
you
didn't
particularly
enjoy
that
movie.
You
can
take
items
off
of
your
reading
history
list.
A
If
you
ever
choose
to
stop
maintaining
the
reading
history,
you
will
lose
all
of
the
materials
that
you
had
previously
had
on
your
list.
So
basically
a
you
opt
in
and
from
that
point
forward
it
will
save
what
you've
been
checking
out
from
the
library.
I
just
think.
That's
a
really
special
feature
and
I
want
more
people
to
know
about
it.
A
Of
course,
we
make
sure
that
everybody
who,
logs
into
their
library,
count
logs
out
when
finished
so
click
here
to
log
out
and
be
aware
that
these
of
course
are
features
of
our
library
catalog,
which
is
available
online
from
home
from
your
own
smartphone.
So
you
can
by
all
means
check
what
the
library
has
put
items
on
hold
manage
your
own
lists
of
any
time
that
you've
got
an
internet
connection.
A
So
I
hope
that
you
will
take
advantage
of
this
and
if
you've
got
any
questions,
please
don't
hesitate
to
ask
you
can
stop
by
the
desk.
Here
you
can
