Mary and Tanvi discuss some upcoming panel and author discussions at the Ames Public Library on January 28th. Visit www.amespubliclibrary.org for more information.
A
Hi
I'm
Mary
logs
in
and
once
again
I'm
here
at
your
library
last
month
at
your
library,
I
introduced
you
to
one
of
our
staff
members
who
told
you
about
an
upcoming
book
discussion
group
that
we're
beginning
in
january,
Kathy
and
I
hope
that
you
remember
that
that's
going
to
be
occurring
and
that
you've
mark
your
calendars.
Today
at
your
library,
I'm
actually
going
to
introduce
you
to
another
staff
member
who's
going
to
share
a
different
opportunity
for
you
to
gather
at
your
library
to
talk
about
books.
A
Well,
as
I
said
this
this
morning,
I
have
invited
another
staff
member
to
join
me
tanvi
welcome.
Thank
you
for
having
me
you're
very
welcome.
I'm,
really
delighted
to
have
you
here
with
me
today.
First
of
all,
I
don't
think
you've
ever
appeared
on
my
program.
Typically,
we
see
you
on
the
program
that
Jerry
hosts
our
well-read
program
and
that's
because
you
work
in
the
department
that
Jerry
manages
yes.
A
A
B
A
Thank
you.
One
of
the
things
that
has
happened.
I,
think
during
your
tenure
here
at
the
library,
is
that
we
have
really
seen
a
an
exciting
explosion
of
services
and
programs
for
teens
and
so
I
think
that's
just
been
really
wonderful
to
observe
and
there's
a
real
vibrancy
to
what's
happening
with
the
teen
services
area.
So
congratulations
on.
A
A
That's
right,
and
he
will
be
here
then,
on
the
30th-
it's
a
monday
evening
at
Iowa
State
at
the
Memorial
Union.
So
we
encourage
people
to
go
this.
His
visit
to
the
aims
community
is
a
part
of
the
ISU
lectures
series
and
we
are
just
really
so
fortunate,
because
the
aims
library,
friends
foundation
is
contributing
to
that
lecture
as
they
had
to
several
lectures.
Last
fall
and,
as
you
said
here
at
the
library,
we
are
really
encouraging.
A
Members
of
the
broader
aims
community
to
take
advantage
of
the
opportunity
to
listen
to
a
really
an
author,
a
writer
of
national
renowned
but
prior
to
that,
to
actually
take
the
time
to
read
his
book
and
to
come
to
the
library
to
discuss
it
correct.
But
then
there
is
this
connection
with
you,
because
we
were
working
together
to
offer
even
more
on
that
day.
Right.
B
So
we
have
author,
Keck
Lagoon,
who
primarily
rights
young,
adult
books
that
are
centered
around
issues
of
race
and
racism,
coming
to
the
library
to
do
a
presentation
on
her
writing
and
then
she
will
also
take
part
on
a
panel,
that's
geared
towards
young
adults,
so
that
they
can
talk
about
race
and
racism.
Right.
A
And
now
I
know
that
one
of
the
things
that
we
have
done
for
both
of
these
authors
books
is
to
invest
in
a
number
of
copies
of
them,
and
so
you
encouraging
folks
to
come
to
the
library.
Now
you
know
in
the
weeks
leading
up
to
this
event,
which
is
at
the
end
of
January,
to
check
out
a
book
and
they
will
find
copies
of
both
tondc
coats
between
the
world
and
me,
which
is
the
book
we're
going
to
be
discussing,
and
the
book
that
you're,
primarily
going
to
be
discussing
on
that
day,
is
right.
A
B
Kind
of
in
an
urban
community
who
is
shot
outside
of
a
convenience
store
by
a
white
man.
The
book
is
heavily
inspired
by
the
Trayvon
Martin
case,
so
it's
very
relevant
to
real
life
events,
and
we
have
purchased
a
number
of
copies
of
these
that
are
circulating
in
the
collection,
but
also
thanks
to
the
France
by
nation.
We
copies
to
give
away
to
young.
A
B
B
A
Well,
likewise,
for
the
portion
of
the
day
that
is
geared
towards
the
towards
the
general
public
and
certainly
teens
are
invited
to
participate
in
this
as
well.
We
will
be
talking
about
between
the
world
in
me,
which
is
it's
not
fiction.
This
is
this
is
nonfiction.
This
is
tana
heat
on
aha
sees
coats
really
very
direct
and
personal
letter
to
his
teenage
son
about
issues
related
to
living
as
a
black
young
man
in
in
America,
and
what
is
so
immediate
about
this
book.
A
Historically,
I
mean
there's
a
lot
that
he
covers
in
this
book
in
such
a
direct
and
personal
way
in
the
form
of
a
letter
to
his
teenage
lon
I.
Think
it's
really
interesting
that
there
is
a
connection
to
teens,
as
well
as
adults,
people
who
are
black
people,
who
are
why,
in
both
of
these
books,
right
and
so
I
would
really
encourage
people
to
read
them
both.
But
our
plan
for
the
day
is
really
rather
complex,
we're
taking
on
a
lot.
A
Yes,
so
we're
working
together
on
our
program
team
to
make
this
really
a
meaningful
opportunity
for
people
to
read
the
books
to
come
to
the
library
to
listen
to
experts,
talk
about
them.
We're
convening
panels
for
both
the
books
during
the
day
and
then
we're
going
to
give
people
an
opportunity
to
talk
with
one
another
and
we're
even
hoping
that
it
all
of
this
all
of
this
activity
might
lead
to
some
sort
of
action.
Whether
that's
and
what
do
you
see
possibly
coming
out
of
this.
B
I
think
something
that's
really
important
is
that
you
know
we
all
kind
of
live
within
our
own
little
bubbles
within
the
aims
community,
and
so
to
be
able
to
have
this
opportunity
to
come
to
the
library
which
really
is
a
community
space
and.
A
A
A
And
I
think
also
just
getting
people
in
the
community
giving
them
the
opportunity
to
have
a
knob
to
kind
of
during
the
same
period
of
time.
Right
and
one
of
the
actions
that
could
come
out
of
this
is
to
make
a
point
of
going
to
the
lecture.
You
know
to
have
read
the
book
by
tana
hice
coats
to
have
a
conversation
with
others
in
the
community
about
what
what
does
this
make
me
feel
what
do
I
think
about
this?
A
You
know
to
address
issues
with
your
neighbors,
but
then
go
and
listen
to
the
author
on
Monday
I
mean
that
would
really
be.
That
would
really
be
a
wonderful
thing
to
do,
but
then
we're
hoping
to
continue
the
conversation.
This
isn't
just
a
single
day
event
and
libraries
across
the
country
are
hosting
these
sorts
of
programs.
Civic
engagement
is
a
big
part
of
what
is
happening
in
public
libraries
right
now,
who
are
some
of
our
partners?
Do
you
want
to
mention
some
of
the
people
that
we're
going
to
be
working
with
yeah
sure
yeah,
so.
B
On
the
youth
end,
we'll
be
working
with
members
of
run
DSM,
which
is
it's
kind
of
a
this
organization,
and
this
group
that
uses
spoken
word
to
address
social
issues
with
young
adults,
so
I'm
really
excited
to
be
able
to
have.
One
of
the
co-founders
will
be
coming
along
with
some
of
their
teens
that
they
work
with
to
sit
on
the
panel
and
talk
about
race
and
specifically
using
the
book
how
it
went
down
to
have
that
conversation
about
race
and
then
I.
A
Do
so
we
have
the
director
of
the
Iowa
Civil
Rights
Commission,
who
will
be
here?
We
have
someone
from
ISU
diversity
and
inclusion,
the
VP
of
ISU
diversity,
inclusion,
dr.
original
Stewart,
is
going
to
be
providing
a
keynote
challenge
to
us.
There
will
also
be
the
author,
Kepler
mcgoun
is
going
to
sit
on
our
panel
to
discuss
this
book,
and
so
we
also
will
be
working
with
some
faculty
at
Iowa,
State
University,
who
have
stepped
up
in
expressing
interest
in
participating
in
both
our
panel
discussions.
That
day
are
some
of
our
other
partners.
A
We
will
have
the
aim
city
of
Ames,
Human,
Relations
Commission
is
going
to
be
a
partner
for
the
event,
the
Ames
Progressive,
Alliance
and
again
also
Iowa
State,
University
diversity
and
inclusion.
So
we
are
all
working
together
to
hopefully
get
the
word
out
and
encourage
people
to
come
and
to
participate,
and
so
we
think
it's
going
to
be
a
wonderful
day.
Yes,
I
think
that
the
day
is
January
28th
just
to
remind
folks
that
is
a
Saturday.
We
will
begin
at
ten-thirty
in
the
morning
together
and
get
people
settled.
A
A
B
A
Just
bringing
adults
and
that's
just
and
that
part
of
it
is
just
bringing
the
adults.
So
thanks
so
very
much
for
coming
to
talk
about
this
with
me
today.
It's
really
it's
a
it's
a
it's,
a
unique
opportunity
for
us
here
at
the
library
and
we're
really
embracing
it,
and
we
hope
that
others
in
the
community
will
take
the
time
to
join
us.
Yes,
yes,
okay,
thanks
so
much
time
to
you.
A
A
A
A
If
you
want
to
learn
anything
more
about,
what's
happening
in
January,
not
only
this
really
special
event
talk
race,
that's
happening
on
January
28,
but
our
other
library
programs,
of
course
check
out
page
one.
Our
monthly
newsletter
look
on
our
Facebook
page,
where
we
will
always
have
information
about
what's
happening
here
at
the
library,
give
us
a
call
or
stop
by
the
adult
services
desk
and
we're
always
happy
to
answer
your
questions.
A
So
in
other
words,
no
matter
what
kind
of
ereader
you're
using.
We
would
love
to
show
you
how
to
check
out
library
books
for
free
to
use
on
your
ebook
devices
and
that's
in
January
and
februari,
so
do
check
our
page
one
newsletter,
I'm
so
glad
that
tom
be
joined
me
today,
I'm
so
glad
that
you
are
listening.
This
again
is
Mary
Logsdon
here
at
your
library.
