C
Really
like
being
on
the
Commission,
we're
always
just
talking
about
really
exciting
things
that
the
citizens
are
excited
about,
that
the
City
Council
is
excited
about.
That
just
makes
it
really
rewarding
to
be
a
part
of
the
Commission
and
get
that
behind-the-scenes
knowledge
about
what
is
up-and-coming
in
this
and
what
input
we
can
have
in
shaping
how
that
project
will
be
going
forward.
I.
A
Think
it's
also
an
exciting
Commission
to
be
on
because
a
lot
of
times
our
actions,
usually
something
really
great
for
the
city,
whether
that
be
something
new
at
the
firm
and
Aquatic
Center
to
Savannah
plantings
out
at
ADA,
Hayden,
Park,
so
really
I
think
it
usually
takes
more
of
a
physical
role
and
that
that's
always
kind
of
fun.
For
me,
any.
C
Ames
resident
is
eligible
to
apply
for
any
board
or
Commission.
There
are
a
few
boards
and
commissions
that
do
require
special
experience,
Parks
and
Recreation
Commission.
You
don't
need
any
previous
experience
to
apply
and
the
terms
are
three
years
long
and
you
have
the
option
to
apply
for
reappointment
at
the
end
of
that
three
years.
In.
B
The
spring
the
the
mayor
sets
out
a
notice
for
anybody.
That's
interested
there
is
an
application
form
that
they
need
to
complete.
That
can
be
done
online
of
the
seven
members
that
we
have.
We
have
six
of
them
serve
three-year
terms,
and
one
serves
a
one-year
term.
The
one-year
term
we
traditionally
have
tried
to
find
an
ISU
student.
We.
A
Have
members
of
the
community
that
have
been
long
life
residents
as
well
as
new
residents,
or
maybe
residents
that
have
left
the
community
gone
off
and
done
some
other
things
and
then
returned?
I
would
say
that
our
main
purpose
is
to
help
create
rules,
as
well
as
give
guidance
to
city
staff
and
tissa
D
Council
on
various
aspects
of
all
the
happenings
that
happen
in
our
parks,
as
well
as
like
the
Aquatic,
Center
and
other
facilities
throughout
the
city.
At
the
city
of
Ames
part.
B
Of
their
responsibilities
is
to
to
develop
plans,
procedures
policies,
one
of
the
things
that
they
do
is
they
set
fees
and
charges
for
all
activities,
shelter,
reservations
that
we
have
for
the
Parks
and
Recreation
Department,
if
somebody's
interested
in
applying
for
the
the
Commission.
We're
really
looking
for
somebody
that
wants
to
give
back
to
the
to
the
immunity
really
has
a
passion
for
Parks
and
Recreation.
They
want
to
improve
the
quality
of
life
or
for
all
residents.
B
C
In
the
Commission
we
all
are
just
commissioners
and
we
have
a
chair
and
Ed
is
our
chair
of
the
Commission
this
year,
and
so
basically,
we
receive
feedback
from
citizens
on
issues
or
upcoming
projects
in
the
Park
System.
We
also
discuss
budgets,
the
capital
improvements
plan
and
some
of
these
major
projects
that
are
up
and
coming
in
the
city.
Those
projects.
A
There
are
some
other
things
that
come
up
along
the
way,
tasks
that
perhaps
different
meetings
that
I
need
to
attend
or
I
feel
like
I
need
to
attend
different
projects
that
might
come
up,
try
to
be
involved
in
those
and
find
out
as
much
information
as
I
can
so
I
can
be
more
educated
and
more
informed
in
in
some
of
those
areas.
My.
B
Role
is
the
director
is
to
work
with
the
the
Commission
to
get
them
to
provide
feedback
not
only
for
staff
but
also
for
City
Council.
They
will
make
recommendations
and
then
I
also
serve
as
a
liaison
between
the
Commission
in
the
in
the
City
Council.
The
Parks
and
Recreation
Commission
meets
every
third
Thursday
of
every
month
at
four
o'clock
and
the
meetings
are
held
in
the
City
Hall
council
chambers
and
anybody
can
attend.
A
C
B
C
So
we're
often
discussing
those
large
events
such
as
Firefly
Country,
Knights,
the
Ames
farmers
market
is
actually
there's
a
little
city
park
there
right
in
downtown
Tom,
Evans,
Plaza
and
so
there's
a
lot
of
events
that
take
place
there
and
we
have
to
go
through
and
Commission
and
improve
them.
And
then
we
talked
about
the
big
projects.
The
capital
improvement
plan
is
where
we
think
about
projects
five
years
into
the
future
and
then
also
these
these
really
big
community-wide
projects.
Sorry,
we
get
a
monthly
update
on
the
progress
of
that
project
going
forward
and.
B
Then
one
of
the
other
things
that
really
they
they
go
through
is
hot
topics.
You
know
if
there
is
something
if
we
get
a
request
or
a
concern
from
from
a
resident,
you
know
those
are
things
so
when
we
were
putting
in
same
volleyball
courts.
You
know
that
was
a
hot
topic
determining
the
location
for
the
all-inclusive
playground,
a
Miracle
League
field.
That
was
a
hot
topic.
You
know,
I,
think
one
thing
that
residents
don't
always
know
is
is
that
this
is
volunteer
for
the
commissioners.
B
They
do
this
because
again,
they
have
a
passion
for
improving
things
in
aims,
and
it
is
very
difficult
at
times
for
the
commissioners,
especially
when
there
are
two
groups
of
people
on
opposite
sides
of
an
issue
that
are
trying
to
make
decisions
and
what's
best
for
the
entire
community
and
it's
very
difficult
on
them
when
they
know
that
their
decision
that
they're
going
to
make
is
not
going
to
please
everybody.
It's.
A
C
That,
if
you
are
a
citizen
of
Ames-
and
you
want
to
get
more
involved
with
city
governance
without
having
to
run
for
office
being
involved
with
the
Commission-
is
just
a
great
way
to
to
just
become
more
involved
with
the
city.
You
just
get
a
great
perspective
on
how
tax
dollars
flow
in
and
out
of
the
city
coffers,
and
you
can
have
a
voice
in
shaping
how
those
tax
dollars
are
spent,
and
it
helps
you
understand
the
challenges
we
face
as
a
growing
community,
because
we've
had
so
much
growth
over
the
last
decade.
C
What
are
the
amenities
that
young
families
and
older
citizens
need
in
order
to
live
healthier
and
more
fulfilled
lives
in
the
city?
And
that's
really?
Our
goal
is
to
to
make
sure
that
aims
is
really
an
enjoyable
place
to
live
with
lots
of
opportunities
for
outdoor
recreation
and
that's
it.
That's
the
Parks
and
Recreation
Commission.
So
it's
a
great
great
Commission
to
be
on.
