A
Hello,
this
is
Ames
Mayor,
John
Eila
I'm
committed
to
communicating
with
you
regularly
so
that
you
have
local
information
and
updates,
as
well
as
to
reassure
you
that
all
the
aims
partner
organizations
are
working
collaboratively
to
address
the
challenges
presented
by
the
kovat
19
pandemic.
These,
indeed,
are
unusual
times.
While
we
do
not
have
any
historical
precedent
to
look
back
down,
we
are
adapting
developing
and
implementing
our
emergency
response
plans.
The
best
serve
the
city
of
Ames
and
storey
County,
while
City
Hall
is
closed
to
the
public
city.
A
Employees
continue
to
focus
on
providing
Ames
residents
with
the
essential
services
they
need
each
day
for
health
and
safety.
We
are
committed
to
serving
you
like
to
share
with
you
some
additional
information
that
I
hope
that
you
will
find
helpful
city
staff
in
addition
to
our
local
partners,
have
continued
to
plan
and
are
executing
their
plans
to
maintain
services
to
the
Ames
residents.
This
includes
utilities,
public
safety
and
public
works.
First
I
talked
about
water
and
sewer.
A
few
weeks
ago,
I
was
talking
with
the
director
of
the
water
and
sewer
plant.
A
It
was
greatly
encouraged
to
hear
that
two
years
ago
they
went
through
and
performed
a
tabletop
exercise
to
plan
for
a
pandemic.
He
indicated
that
what
they
have
planned
for
is
coming
to
fruition
and
they
are
methodically
going
through
making
sure
that
they
continue
to
provide
water
and
sewer
services
to
our
community.
The
same
goes
for
the
power
plant
and
making
sure
that
you
have
electricity
plans
are
in
place
for
staffing
and
sure
that
you
continue
to
have
what
you
need
to
operate.
A
Your
home,
police
and
fire
the
same
way
they
have
plans
in
place
to
ensure
it
will
have
adequate
staff
available
in
order
to
provide
law
enforcement,
as
well
as
fire
protection
for
our
community
and
additionally,
Public
Works.
We
know
there'll
be
times
where
water
mains
may
break.
We
have
the
ability
to
ensure
we
can
service
those
situations
and
provide
ongoing
service
to
our
community.
A
Our
local
partners
are
in
frequent
communications
many
many
meetings
and
continue
to
be
committed
to
working
together
to
meet
the
needs
not
only
at
the
city
of
Ames,
but
also
all
a
story.
County
I
continue
to
be
part
of
a
weekly
zoom
meeting,
hosted
by
the
story:
County
Emergency
Management
Department,
where
approximately
15
to
20
participants
join
in
including
representatives
from
Iowa
State
cities
in
Story
County
and
the
county
government
at
our
last
meeting.
There's
a
wonderful
example
of
how
our
local
partners
are
working
together.
A
The
coordinator
for
the
emergency
management
mentioned
that
there
was
difficulty
getting
transportation
at
times
from
the
food
bank
down
in
Des
Moines
to
our
food
pantries
within
the
course
of
one
minute.
The
mayor
from
Rowland
offered
to
have
he
and
his
wife
drive
down
using
their
own
vehicle
to
pick
up
food
stores,
Iowa
State
offered
to
loan
or
provide
transportation
using
their
box
trucks
and
they're
also
heard
there's
a
local
Jeep.
A
Club
they'll
be
interested
in
helping
that
all
came
about
spontaneously
and
demonstrates
the
commitment
the
people
in
the
county
have
to
mean
the
needs
of
people
in
not
only
Ames
but
also
storey.
County
I,
like
to
stress
that
plans
will
change,
but
we
have
people
who
are
extremely
adept
and
very
skilled
at
working
to
make
sure
that
the
needs
are
being
met.
A
The
city
of
Ames
is
resolutely
committed
to
providing
and
maintaining
water
sewer
power,
law
enforcement
and
fire
protection
and
fixing
water
mains
when
they
break
we
have
strategies
in
place
and
are
executing
them
as
we
go
forward.
As
you
know,
this
is
a
very
fluid
situation
and
rapidly
evolving
conditions
can
and
will
change.
A
We
continue
to
celebrate
the
fact
that
we
have
a
local
partner
network
that
is
committed
to
working
closely
together
to
meet
the
needs
of
our
community
and
our
please
stay
in
for
my
regular
checking:
local
media
and
reliable
websites,
the
city

Ames
posts,
updates
on
a
regular
basis,

is
a
time
to
safely
check
in
with
neighbors,
while
recognizing
and
observing
social
distancing.
