Description
On Tuesday, Nov. 27, a ribbon-cutting event celebrated the completion of the Tripp Street extension.
The project extended Tripp Street from Wilmoth Avenue east to State Avenue. The construction, which began in May, involved new concrete and asphalt street pavement, water main installation, electric infrastructure, and storm water improvements.
The Tripp Street extension was paid for by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and represents the first step in developing the former Ames Middle School site into a mixed-income, single family housing development.

but
I
want
to
thank
everybody
for
coming
today
and
want
to
thank
all
the
council
members
who
were
able
to
show
up
today
and
all
the
staff
and
support
from
the
community
for
this
great
occasion
that
we're
going
to
be
ribbon-cutting
today,
right
now,
I'd
like
to
have
a
few
remarks
made
by
Julie
sleeper
she's,
a
Department
of
Housing
and
Urban
Development
she's,
representing
both
the
field
office
here
in
Des
Moines
and
in
Omaha.

to
everybody.
So,
as
vanessa
said,
my
name
is
Julie
Sleeper
I'm,
the
senior
management
analyst
with
the
US
Department
of
Housing
and
Urban
Development
des
moines
field
office
and
I
want
to
thank
Vanessa
the
mayor
in
the
City
Council
for
inviting
us
here
today.
For
this
ceremony,
the
city
of
Ames
and
HUD
have
been
a
partnership
since
2004
through
HUDs
Community
Development,
Block,
Grant
Program.
This
program
provides
entitlement
communities
with
resources
to
address
a
wide
range
of
community
development
needs.

Since
2004,
the
city
of
Ames
has
received
over
$500,000
annually
in
CDBG
funds,
and
what
we're
seeing
here
today
is
a
great
example
of
what
can
be
done
with
the
CDBG
funds.
Putting
in
the
infrastructure
here
for
the
street
for
a
housing
development
I'd
like
to
congratulate
you
on
your
vision
for
housing
in
Ames
and
expanding
housing
options
for
low-income
persons
and
I.
Look
forward
to
watching
the
progress
of
the
development
and
my
future
trips
to
Ames.

We
greatly
appreciate
you
representing
the
HUD
field
office
and
Omaha
who
couldn't
make
it
today,
but
since
their
congratulations
on
another
successful
project
for
the
city,
we
wanted
to
also
take
a
few
minutes
to
talk
about.
You
know.
This
is
just
one
of
the
many
projects
that
we've
done
across
the
community
infrastructure.
We've
done,
infrastructure
and
other
parts
of
the
community.
We've
done,
affordable
housing,
we've
done
program
to
help
low
income
families
with
their
rent
and
their
utilities.
We've
also
done
programs
to
help
nonprofits
bill
housing
and
provide
housing
to
their
clients.

Back
in
2014,
the
city
of
determined,
a
five-year
plan
which
outlined
and
affordable
housing
is
in
need
in
our
community
and
it
still
exists
and
2015.
The
city
had
purchased
this
property
using
CDBG
funds.
To
get
this
ten
acre
parcel
land
to
install
the
probably
infrastructure
for
the
purpose
of
dressing,
the
need
of
affordable
housing,
the
completion
of
this
investment
of
approximating
the
city,
the
following
individuals
and
departments
for
the
determination
efforts
to
bring
this
ribbon-cutting
to
fruition.

even
made
our
city
managers
Dee
thinker
and
from
planning
in
housing,
yeah,

Diekman
and

Tracy

and
then
Nathan
was
at
Willy

manager
and
Scott
Shepard,
the
project

and
we
have

keller
excavating.
