A
We
can
go
ahead
and
get
this
dedication
and
ribbon
cutting
done
this
afternoon.
I
think
most
of
you
know
that,
but
I
am
mayor
john
haley,
it's
my
honor
to
officiate
and
I'd
like
to.
First
of
all
introduce
some
of
our
elected
officials.
A
We
have
tim
garten
ward,
two,
we
got
david,
martin
ward,
three,
we
have
bronwyn
who's
out
at
large
and
we
got
rachel.
Who
is
our
award
for
representative?
So
gosh
we
got
four
of
the
six,
it's
wonderful.
So
anyway,
this
bridge
provides
an
important
trail
connection
between
and
among
west
ames
neighborhoods
and
the
iowa
state
campus.
The
previous
wood
bridge
across
clear
creek
was
destroyed
in
a
flood
event
in
june
of
2018,
and
the
connection
was
lost.
A
The
bridge
is
10
feet
wide
70
foot
long
is
able
to
handle
multiple
pedestrians
and
bike
bicyclists
at
one
time
as
well
as
service
vehicles,
and
the
bridge
has
been
also
engineered
to
withstand
the
force
of
water
if
it
ever
becomes
inundated
once
again,
and
just
a
couple
of
other
side
notes
is
that
this
is
the
third
ribbon
cutting
dedication
in
the
last
couple
of
weeks,
around
ames
and
it's
just
exciting
to
finally
be
out
cutting
ribbons.
We
had
a
low
head
dam.
We
had
the
homewood
golf
clubhouse.
A
Now
we
have
this
and
I
I
trust
that
the
public
sees
the
commitment
that
the
council
staff
and
the
community
has
to
enhancing
our
facilities,
and
this
is
just
another
fantastic
example,
and
I
know
it
took
a
little
longer
than
we
all
wanted
to,
but
I
think
there
was
some
issues
with
some
of
our
funding
sources,
but
it's
done
and
ready
to
be
used,
and
we
are
excited
about
that.
So,
and
I
am
every
time
I
introduced
sarah
kady,
the
parks,
recreation,
commission,
chairperson.
A
She
always
reminds
me
about
hey,
there's,
boards
and
commissions.
You
can
serve
on
so
sarah.
A
If
you
would
do
the
honors
again
too,
because
that's
an
important
piece-
and
we
just
really
appreciate
the
fact
that
your
commission
has
been
extremely
busy
and
forward
thinking
and
we're
looking
forward
to
seeing
a
lot
more
projects
coming
down
the
pipe.
So
with
that
sarah
katy
parks,
recreation,
commission,
chairperson,
sarah.
B
Thanks
mayor
kayla,
all
right:
well,
it's
great
to
be
here
today
at
this
ribbon
cutting
and
I
know
joshua
our
park.
Superintendent
is
super
pleased
that
this
project
is
done,
so
I
can
stop
asking
about
it
at
the
end
of
literally
every
parks
commission
meeting
for
the
last
couple
years.
So
so
my
name
is
sarah.
I
am
the
currently
the
chair
of
the
parks
and
recreation
commission.
B
B
Sanitary
sewer
would
be
rehabilitated
and
then
we
came
over
to
mon
woods
to
look
at
the
at
the
flood
aftermath
and
yeah,
and
so
that
was
that
was
a
very
memorable
meeting.
B
I
I
was
in
a
car
crash
in
april
march
of
2018
and
I
had
just
started
walking
again
in
my
walking
boot
like
a
couple
weeks
prior,
and
so
we
were
walking
down
the
slick
stairs
on
the
on
the
south
side
of
munn
woods
with
me,
not
too
steady
on
my
feet
and
then
one
of
our
other
commissioners
had
just
finished
chemo.
B
My
vice
chair,
sarah
whitwiller
and-
and
so
we
were
both
sarah's
were
having
a
rough
go
of
it
that
day,
but
we
made
it
so
very
memorable
on
the
parks
commission.
I
have
been
on
the
parks
commission
for
three
years
now.
Three
four,
I
don't
remember
three
march
of
2017,
I
don't
know
four
there,
so
I
was
a
math
major
and,
and
it's
just
been
a
lot
of
fun.
It's
been
a
very
productive
time
in
the
city.
We've
had
a
lot
of
projects.
B
There
were.
There
were
some
huge
projects
underway
when
I
joined
the
commission,
such
as
the
miracle
field
and
inclusive
playground,
and
that
has
finally
opened-
and
I
was
there
last
weekend
with
my
niece
and
it's
just
such
a
wonderful
addition
to
the
city
and
I've
been
at
the
three
ribbon
cuttings
this
spring,
and
I
think
we
had
another
three
last
fall:
dedicating
various
facilities
and
monuments
in
our
park
system
and,
as
mayor
halo
said,
I
would
encourage
anyone
here
today
or
watching
at
home
to
look
at
the
open
boards
and
commissions.
B
B
The
friends
of
emma
mccarthy
lee
park
also
are
friends
of
ada
hayden
and
we
have
a
friends
of
brookside
park
now,
and
those
individuals
are
just
really
motivated
to
make
sure
the
parks
are
in
their
best
condition
and
give
feedback
to
both
commission
and
council
about
ideas
they
have
for
projects
or
improvements.
So
thank
you
all
today.
B
C
All
right,
thank
you.
Sarah,
my
name
is
keith
abraham
parks
and
recreation
director
for
the
city
of
ames.
I
will
also
mention
we
do
have
a
another
commission,
member
dwayne
reeves
here
so
dwayne
thanks
for
for
coming,
oh
and
we,
I
can't
see
behind
oh
and
nicole,
nicole
fanon
who's,
the
newest
member
of
our
commission
and
seeing
as
we
didn't
meet
in
april,
she
has
yet
to
be
at
a
at
a
meeting.
So
so
thanks
for
for
everybody
for
for
coming,
you
know,
like
already
been
touched
on.
C
This
project
has
has
taken
a
while,
and
but
what
I
want
to
do
is
just
want
to
give
some
thanks
to
everybody
involved,
so,
first
off
to
the
to
the
mayor
and
city
council
for
continually
supporting
the
all
of
our
projects
and
and
really
improving
the
quality
of
life
through
the
park
system
through
the
trail
system,
all
the
different
amenities
that
we
have
going
on
and-
and
we
have,
I
think,
we're
planning-
maybe
another
five
or
six
ribbon
cuttings
throughout
the
rest
of
this
summer
and
into
the
to
the
fall.
C
So
a
lot
of
projects
going
on
a
lot
of
things
that
are
there
happening.
So
so
thank
you
to
the
mayor
and
to
the
city
council
also
thanks
to
the
parks
and
recreation
commission
for
their
continued
support
and
and
vision,
and
what
needs
to
be
done,
and
also
with
some
of
the
projects
that
sarah
had
mentioned.
Sometimes
you
know
we
do
have
projects
that
there
are
competing
interests.
C
People
are
on
different
sides
of
an
issue
and
they
have
to
make
some
some
tough
recommendations
to
to
city
council
and
it's
not
always
easy,
but
they
they
do.
You
know
listen
to
the
to
the
public
and
and
give
staff
a
lot
of
support
from
the
staff
side.
You
know
a
lot
of
things
again
to
the
city
manager's
office
for
for
their
support,
with
all
the
projects
that
we
have
on
this
particular
project.
C
C
We
thought
we
had
it
and
then
we
didn't
have
it
and
we
thought
we
had
it
and
then
we
didn't
have
it,
and
so
it
was
a
lot
of
back
and
forth,
but
but
joshua
really
did
a
great
job,
navigating
that
funding
request
with
with
fema
getting
all
the
the
paperwork,
the
form
submitted
and
and
so
on,
and
and
also
working
with
the
the
designer
and
the
the
contractor.
C
C
We
did
sit
down
and
have
conversation
with
the
planning
department
and
they
helped
us
figure
out
what
we
needed,
as
well
as
with
whks
derek,
is
here
from
wkhks,
did
the
design
for
the
for
the
bridge
and
and
really
easy
to
to
work
with
really
appreciate
what
he
did.
The
pryor
bridge
was
only
about
35-40
feet
long.
C
The
total
project
was
about
two
hundred
and
forty
thousand
dollars,
and
you
know
the
difference
was
made
up
to
the
funding
through
our
cip,
which
is
the
capital
improvement
plan.
Just
one
of
the
things
as
you.
If
you
haven't
walked
across
this,
this
bridge,
the
the
wood
itself
is
called
ipe
and
ipe
is
it's
also
kind
of
use
or
a
term
called
steel
wood,
because
it's
very
heavy
it's
very
strong
and
and
will
last
for
a
long
time.
C
So
so
that's
something
there
as
well
and-
and
I
think,
with
with
these
few
raindrops
and
and
so
on,
I
think
I'll.
Stop
there
thanks
everybody
for
coming
thanks
for
again
for
parks,
recreation,
commission,
mayor
and
city
council
and
and
everybody
involved
with
this
project.
So
so
at
this
point,
what
we'll
do
is
we'll
ask
the
the
mayor,
commission,
members,
council
members
to
come
on
up
and
we'll
cut
the
ribbon.
