A
My
guest
today
is
kelly:
omlet
recreation
superintendent,
with
the
parks
and
recreation
department
kelly
welcome
to
the
show
good
morning,
susan
thanks
for
having
me
today.
Well,
it's
always
good
to
have
you
here
when
we
have
a
change
of
season
which
we
have
one
coming
up
soon
with
the
change
of
seasons.
We
have
a
special
special
thing
that
comes
in
your
mailbox.
Yes,.
B
A
And
if
you
have
kids
in
your
household,
it's
something
they
all
look
forward
to.
Everybody
wants
to
look
at
the
new
offerings
fall
and
winter
can
seem
like
a
slow
time
of
year
in
in
ames
where
the
weather
gets
cold
quickly.
But
if
you
look
through
that,
catalog
you'd
never
know
it
by
all
the
offerings.
B
Absolutely
there
is
something
for
everybody
in
the
fall
and
winter,
from
youth
sports,
to
youth
activities,
to
adult
sports
and
activities
to
fitness
classes,
to
drop-in
programs,
not
to
mention
our
facilities,
homewood's
still
open
for
golf.
The
ice
arena
with
events
on
public
skating
drop
in
hockey
so
there's
definitely
something
for
everybody.
In.
A
Ames
and
the
age
range
you
can
see
things
for
small
children
with
the
the
drop
in
top
program
to
our
our
seniors
can
remain
active
through
the
next
two
seasons.
B
A
B
Correct
the
furman
aquatic
center
is
currently
open.
We
will
be
open
through
labor
day
monday
september
1st
and
then
we'll
close
after
open
swim
that
night
starting
thursday
august
14th.
When
the
ames
school
starts
back
into
session.
We
start
on
our
back
to
school
hours,
which
will
be
monday
through
friday,
we'll
be
open,
11
to
1,
11
a.m,
to
1
p.m,
for
adult
lap,
swim,
water,
walking
and
taught
time
and
then
open
swim
will
be
five
to
seven
pm
and
then
on
tuesdays
thursdays.
We
will
still
have
adult
water.
B
A
Yeah,
that's
really
coming
up
soon
and
I'm
really
glad
to
see
that
furman
has
become
so
flexible
with
the
hours.
I
remember
at
one
point:
when
the
back
to
school
season
started,
we
stopped
with
the
todd
time.
I
got
a
lot
of
feedback
that
there
were
a
lot
of
young
kids
out
there
that
were
not
in
school
and
still
needed
that
outlet
for
recreation
and,
of
course
it's
still
warm
in
august.
B
A
B
We're
looking
pretty
good
the
aquatic
coordinator
jill
bird
is
working
hard
on
making
sure
we're
fully
staffed.
We
actually
just
had
a
research
this
past
weekend
on
sunday
just
to
try
and
hire
we're
still
in
the
process
of
hiring
people.
We
hired,
I
think
two
or
three
new
people
already
this
week
and
get
them
on
board,
so
we
can
remain
fully
staffed
during
that
time.
Obviously,
a
lot
of
our
workers
are
high
school
and
college
students,
so
yeah.
A
A
Okay,
so
up
until
september
first,
you
still
have
an
opportunity
to
hit
furman
aquatic
center.
Don't
let
the
summer
go
by
without
going
to
that
facility.
It
is
just
awesome
absolutely
and
now
we
have
as
we
get
as
we
transition
into
fall,
a
lot
of
different
activities
in
the
book.
I
was
looking
at
it
earlier
you
and
I
were
talking
about
it.
Some
fun
things
planned
some
monthly
family
activities,
something
new.
I
was
very
excited
to
read
about
that.
Yeah.
B
We
got
feedback
from
the
customers
that
they
wanted,
one-time
events
where
they
could
just
come
in
and
do
an
event
with
their
family
one
time
it
wasn't
a
long-term
commitment.
So
we
looked
at
some
different
ideas
and
we
have
some
fall
special
events
planned
and
and
transitions
into
the
winter
and
spring.
Also
we
tried
a
couple
programs
this
spring
and
one
went
really
well:
the
flashlight
egg
hunt,
the
second
one.
Unfortunately,
we
didn't
get
the
numbers,
but
we're
really
going
to
push
it.
B
A
I
saw
some
of
the
other
ones.
You
look
ahead
into
the
season,
more
themed
kind
of
activities
valentine's
day,
halloween,
really
fun
stuff,
yeah.
B
Absolutely
we're
hoping
that
we
have
breakfast
with
santa
I've
got
a
santa
lined
up
already,
so
you
know
the
kids
will
be
able
to
come
in
and
have
say
hi
to
santa
tell
them
what
they
want
for
christmas.
And
you
know
he
might
read
him
a
book
or
we'll
see
what
we
end
up
with,
but
we're
excited
about
the
fall,
special
events
and.
A
You
mentioned
the
the
parks
and
recreation,
ames
parks
and
recreation
does
have
a
facebook
page.
Yes,
so
the
city
of
ames
and
a
couple
of
other
city
departments
do
have
facebook
pages.
Also
the
ames
parks
and
recreation
page
on
our
website
is
very
active.
Lots
of
information
is
available
there,
so
lots
of
different
ways
for
people
to
find
out
this
information.
B
A
B
A
And
I'll
look
it
again
at
our
website:
dot,
org,
there's
a
button
right
on
the
front
that
says,
parks
and
recreation.
You
can
go
right
there
and
also
ames
parks
wreck
aimsparksdirect.org.
It's
another
way
to
get
directly
to
that
site.
So
with
the
catalog,
some
new
offerings
extending
into
the
younger
ages
talk
a
little
bit
about.
What's
going
on
this
far
correct.
B
Correct
absolutely
so
a
couple
of
tweaks
we
had
in
our
programs.
We
did
a
flag
football.
We
were
adding
kindergarten.
We
noticed
there
was
a
need
for
younger
younger
grades,
so
we
added
kindergarten
for
our
flag
football
program.
We've
added
some
swim,
lessons
at
green
hills
on
sunday
afternoons,
both
parent-child
and
also
private
lessons.
This
will
help
us
move
some
of
the
other
lessons
out
of
municipal
pool
and
add
more
sessions
there
and
also
adds
another
day
sundays
at
green
hills,
which
might
be
a
great
opportunity
for
for
parents,
yeah.
A
Sunday
afternoons,
which
tend
to
be
somewhat
of
a
slow
time
and
a
nice
opportunity
to
get
your
child
out,
spend
some
time
one-on-one
or
you
know
either
you
with
them
or
them
with
an
instructor
right
good
way
to
do
it
absolutely.
B
So
we're
excited
about
being
able
to
branch
out
to
green
hills,
and
you
know
more
opportunities
for
some
lessons
at
municipal
pool
because
we'll
be
taking
some
of
those
lessons
out
of
there.
We
have
some
new
fitness
classes
coming
online.
This
fall,
we
have
a
pilates
bar
class.
Nancy
has
started
that
and
we
have
a
a
dance
jam.
A
A
A
B
A
B
A
B
Doing
good
we're
gearing
up
for
the
fall
season
hockey
will
start
here
in
september,
so
we're
we're
busy
getting
ready
for
that
season.
We've
had
open
skating
throughout
the
summer
and
we've
had
drop
in
hockey,
but
we'll
be
adding
sessions
as
we
move
into
september
so
come
and
visit
us
even
right
now.
At
the
ice
arena.
A
So
we
have
miles
and
miles
of
bike
paths
and
over
35
parks
to
to
try
out
there's
so
much
to
do
in
the
fall
and
actually
the
weather
is
tends
to
be
just
a
little
bit
more
moderate.
B
Yeah
yeah
not
not
quite
as
hot
and
so
come
out
and
visit
us
in
the
parks
and
see
if
you
can
get
into
every
park
in
in
ames.
I
know
harvey
on
the
front
here.
His
dad
wrote
a
letter
that
they
had
visited
every
park
over
lunch
hour
last
summer,
so
join
them
and
visit
all
the
parks
and
ames
like
susan
said:
there's
37
parks
there's
a
lot
of
exploring
to
do.
A
A
Thanks
kelly:
well,
if
you're
looking
for
other
things
to
do
this
summer,
don't
forget
that
the
last
day
to
visit
the
ames
public
library
will
be
on
august
17th.
That's
the
day
that
the
620
lincoln
way
facility
will
close
down.
We'll
have
a
book
brigade
to
mark
the
occasion
where
we
move.
We
move
a
few
books
from
the
lincoln
way
location
to
the
new
location
on
douglas.
Also,
remember
that
the
new
library
will
open
on
sunday
september
14th,
you
won't
want
to
miss
it.
It'll
be
a
fabulous
event.
