From YouTube: This Week in Ames - Furman Aquatic Center
Description
The wait is almost over; nothing says summer like the opening of the Furman Aquatic Center. Susan and Interim Parks and Recreation Director Keith Abraham discuss the upcoming opening.
A
A
B
A
B
A
B
B
A
B
But
we
have
three
different
pool
basins:
one
is
the
the
50
meter
pool
which,
as
a
large
play
area,
we
do
have
planes
that
we
leave
open
all
the
time
just
dedicated
for
lap
swimming.
We
also
have
three
metre
platform
and
a
1-meter
diving
board
and
we
also
have
a
drop
slide.
So
those
are
the
three
for
the
amenities
for
the
50
meter
pool.
We
also
have
the
lazy
river,
which
is
550
foot
lazy
river.
In
there
we
do
have
the
the
tubes
to
float
around
at
your
leisure
and.
B
And
a
waterfall
some
little
spray
features.
We
also
do
have
to
tube
slides
that
that
go
into
the
lazy
river
as
well
once
a
closed
flume
ones
that
open
flume
and
we
also
do
do
water
walking
in
the
in
the
lazy
river
at
certain
times
of
the
day
and
then
the
last
one
is
our
splash
pool
that
pools
design
is
zero
depth.
Entry
is
47
and
under
they
do
have
a
you
slide.
B
B
And
it's
a
we
do
ask
we
do
a
has
that
people
do
know
how
to
swim
when
they
go
off
of
that,
because
you
are
coming
in
to
13
feet
of
water,
you
do
get
a
little
disoriented
when
you
get
pushed
out
of
that.
That
drop
slide
it
into
the
into
the
water,
and
we
do
you
know
kind
of
leads
into
one
other
thing
that
we
do
is.
B
B
A
Talked
a
little
bit
about
whether
whether
it's
always
sort
of
one
of
those
things
you
never
know
how
the
day
is
going
to
F.
Is
it
going
to
be
different
from
the
beginning
to
the
end,
you
are
very
good
about
keeping
people
posted
on
the
weather
situation.
Where
should
they
look
at
to
find
out
if
the
pools
open
or
closed
yeah.
B
The
best
the
best
place
to
look
is
is
if
you
like
us
on
Facebook,
and
we
do
update
that
information
right
away.
Another
place
to
get
the
information
is
calling
the
hotline
for
firm
an
aquatic
center
and
we
do
post
that
information
there
as
well
and
you're
exactly
right.
Sometimes
it
starts
off
a
day
like
today
and
and
we're
out
here.
We've
got
the
you
know,
1,500
people
in
the
in
the
pool
and
then
just
on
a
dime.
We
can
have
a
storm
roll
in
and
we
have
to
close
for
the
rest
of
the
day.
B
A
B
Yeah
many
time
you
put
in
lightning
with
water.
That's
why
sometimes
people
you
know
get
frustrated
when
we
get
them
out
of
the
pool,
because
if
we
hear
thunder
or
we
see
lightning,
we
get
them
out
of
the
pool
they
have
to
stay
out
for
30
minutes,
and
then
we
can,
after
the
last
thunder
or
lightning
that
we
hear
or
see
that
we
can
get
them
back
in
the
pool.
B
A
B
Yeah
they're
there
is,
and
we've
even
added
some
things
this
year
with
the
water
walking,
has
been
extremely
popular
during
the
noon
hour
from
11
to
1.
We
have
heard
over
the
last
couple
of
years:
that'd
be
nice
if
there
was
an
evening
option
just
for
people
that
are
sensitive
to
the
Sun,
so
so
on,
Tuesdays
Thursdays
and
sunday
evenings
from
seven
to
eight
we're
going
to
be
having
water
walking
in
the
lazy
river.
We
also
are
adding
water
polo
for
four
adults.
We're
going
to
do
that
on
Wednesday
evenings
from
eight
to
nine
p.m.
B
that
is
an
actual
class,
so
sign
up
for
that
information
is
on
our
website
and
then
another
thing
that
we're
adding
is
on
Saturday
mornings,
we're
doing
an
adaptive
open
swim
for
for
individuals
who
are
physically
or
mentally
challenged
that
to
come
to
the
pool
when
there's
1500
people
just
is
not
a
conducive
setting
for
them.
So
we're
doing
that
from
9
30
to
10
30
on
saturday
mornings
and
we're
hoping
that's
going
to
be
a
real
positive
popular
activity
as
well.
I'm.
A
B
Concession
stand
is
open
from
from
1pm
to
730
p.m.
we
closed
a
half
hour
before
we
close
at
the
end
of
the
night,
but
it
is
one
thing
that
we've
heard
over
the
the
last
several
years
is
more
healthy
options,
so
we
have
added
some.
We
have
juice
for
for
the
little
ones.
We
have
carrots,
we
have
apple
slices,
we
have
some
granola
bars,
we've
gone
to
just
baked
chips
versus
you
know,
regular
chips.
So
so
we've
tried
to
add
some
some
other
options.
We're
always
looking
for
additional
options
as
well
and.
A
B
Food
needs
to
say
it
within
the
concession
seating
area.
Now
we
do
have
some
people
that
will
go
outside
shelters,
some
picnic
tables
that
that
individuals
can
go
outside
and
and
eat.
So
yeah,
it's
a
when
you're
down
here.
You
know
you
don't
need
to
go
hungry,
just
bring
a
few
extra
dollars
and
a
few
extra
dollars
with
your
child
and
it
can
get
something
from
the
concession
stand.
So.
A
B
Yes,
we
do
have
plenty
of
parking
and
in
most
times
when
people
come
to
the
aquatic
center
parking
isn't
an
issue
during
the
month
of
june.
In
those
hours
from
2
to
4
30,
it
does
get
a
little
congested
at
times.
That's
what
we
do
look
for!
Ask
people
to
go
to
the
high
school
park
up
there.
They
can
follow
the
paths
down
another
option
you
mentioned
about
the
bike
trails
you
can
get
just
about
anywhere
from
aims
to
hear
on
bike
paths.
You
could
also
park
over
at
Brookside
Park.
B
A
B
The
course
of
the
summer
yeah
right
now,
we'll
probably
have
about
125
employees
and
that's
broken
up
between
shift
leaders
who
are
kind
of
our
people
in
charge.
Throughout
the
day
we
have
lifeguards,
we
have
our
cashiers.
We
have
our
concession
workers,
we
also
have
maintenance
and
then
a
lot
of
times.
We
do
have
some
full-time
staff
down
here
as
well
and.
B
September
second
labor
day,
yep,
yeah
and
with
with
hours,
maybe
just
mention
that
real
quick
for
for
individuals-
and
you
can
get
this-
you
know
on
our
website
as
well,
but
we
are
open
for
from
11
to
17
days
a
week,
and
that
is.
We
have
three
activities
that
go
on
from
11
to
21.
It
is
adult
lap
swimming
in
the
pool,
adult
water
walking
in
the
lazy
river,
and
then
we
have
taught
time
for
parents
and
children
seven
and
under
you
know,
in
the
splash
pool
seven
days
a
week
from
one
to
eight
pm.
B
It
is
open
swim,
you
know.
For
for
everybody,
we
also
do
do
rentals.
So
if
anybody
is
looking
for
an
activity
for
a
church,
outing
family
reunion,
we
do
do
rentals
either
before
we
open
or
when
we
close
at
the
end
of
the
night,
and
we
can
rent
out
one
Basin
at
a
time
where
we
can
do
all
three
depending
on
what
people
are
looking
for.
Well,.
A
A
In
addition
to
the
Furman
aquatic
center,
opening
on
Saturday
May
twenty-fifth
remembered
the
city
hall
in
most
city
offices
will
be
closed
on
Monday
May
27th.
Also
remember:
you
can
keep
up
with
what's
happening
at
Furman
by
checking
the
firm
and
Facebook
page,
but
you
can
also
go
to
the
city
of
Ames,
Facebook
and
Twitter
feeds
to
find
out
what's
happening
in
your
community.
Well,
that's
our
show
for
today,
thanks
for
watching
and
tune
in
next
week.
For
this
weekend,
Ames.
