From YouTube: This Week in Ames
Description
Construction Supervisor Brett Stupp gives an update on the many projects around town.
A
A
B
A
couple
of
the
big
major
ones
are
the
ISU,
a
research
park,
roundabout
project
down
south
out
of
town
they're
at
airport,
road
and
university
they're.
Finally,
starting
to
move
some
dirt
around
build
up
that
area
for
the
for
the
space,
the
roundabout
actually
is
going
to
take
up
a
lot
more
space
than
the
existing
intersection.
Will
we
have
Grant
Avenue,
which
is
also
known
as
hide
north
side
of
town
clearing
and
grubbing
has
begun
there
and
they've
started
to
move
soil
around
to
to
create
the
proper
grades
for
the
new
road
profile.
B
Actually
has
to
be
done
by
the
first
week
of
September,
so
it
is
again
it's
just
a
mill
and
overlay:
it's
not
a
total
reconstruction.
So
what
they're
doing
now
is
that
head-to-head
traffic's
on
that
south
side
of
the
road
north
lanes
are
closed
to
complete
some
sanitary
spot
repairs,
some
storm
drain
repairs
and
then
they'll
mill
and
overlay
that
North
half
shift
all
the
traffic
back
to
North
half
head
to
head.
While
they
work
on
the
South,
half
and.
B
Oh
yeah,
no,
a
hayward
avenue
has
been
a
big
big
one
in
there
in
campustown
a
reconstruction
of
a
new
drainage
culvert
as
complete
as
of
today.
They
did
their
final
poor
for
the
culvert
today
we're
putting
the
the
North
half
back
together
with
a
sanitary
sewer
repair
and
then
we'll
be
ready
to
prep
for
some
paving
on
that
North
half
south
of
the
of
college
Creek
on
that
roadway
they
still
have
some
storm
sewer
work
to
do,
but
then
we
should
be
putting
that
one
back
together
to
in
that
one
also.
B
A
B
No,
absolutely
while
we,
while
we
have
the
street
removed
or
while
there
is
a
section
of
it,
removed,
whether
it's
a
block
or
whether
it's
just
a
small
patch
in
the
center.
We
want
to
try
to
do
any
repairs
to
the
the
underground
utility
system,
whether
it's
store,
more
sanitary
or
even
water,
mean
or
services.
While
we're
there.
We
don't
want
to
fix
the
roadway
or
patch
it
and
then
have
to
come
back
and
tear
out
a
roadway
to
fix
something
else
we
could
have
done
while
we
were
there
already.
B
B
Absolutely
a
lot
of
times,
potholes
develop
or
sections
of
payment
that
deteriorate
before
other
portions
of
roadway
deteriorate
because
there's
an
issue
underneath
now,
whether
that's
poor,
subgrade,
preparation
from
before
or
weather
underground,
storm
utility
might
have
been
leaking
and
then
adding
to
the
erosion
underneath
the
roadway
which
has
caused
the
problem
in
the
first
place.
So
again
we
want
to
do
the
the
right
amount
of
work
to
get
it
done,
so
we
don't
to
come
back
and
bother
it
for
25
or
30
years.
I
know.
A
B
Again
about
about
the
25
to
30
year
mark
is
what
we're
looking
for,
especially
on
these
full
reconstructions.
Obviously,
if
we're
patch
working
something
together
for
maybe
you
know
just
a
short
time
period,
because
maybe
we're
waiting
for
some
more
bond
money
or
or
other
grant
sources,
then
we
might
just
patch
something
together
to
make
it
work
for
now.
B
But
if
it's
a
full
reconstruction
than
we
want
to
make
sure
that
it's
25
to
30
years
before
we
come
back,
which
is
also
why,
like
I
alluded
to
before,
we
would
make
sure
to
do
any
repairs
or
upgrading
any
underground
utility
systems
while
we're
there.
Hence
that
adds
a
little
bit
more
time
and
money
to
the
project,
but
then
we're
not
tearing
out
and
you
stuff
to
fix
I
also.
A
B
Absolutely
a
city
of
ames
Road,
utility
maintenance
divisions.
You
know
they're
always
keeping
an
eye
on
everything.
You
know
they're
the
ones
out
there
plowing
the
snow
in
the
winter,
so
they
know
where
there's
probably
trouble
areas.
You
know
they
get
calls
directly
out
to
our
maintenance
shop
with
maybe
curb
and
gutter
drainage
issues,
or
if
a
residents
always
noticing
ponding
water
near
a
certain
section
of
the
roadway,
so
we're
always
monitoring
those
and
that
all
goes
into
into
play
when
we're
deciding.
Where
do
we
spend
our
dollars?
B
A
The
streets
are
prioritized
based
on
the
condition
at
the
time
they're
assessed,
but
I
have
Austin,
often
seen
residents
calling
in
asking
to
have
somebody
look
at
something
that's
happening
to
maybe
on
their
street
and
I've
seen
those
priorities
change,
because
sometimes
they
will
deteriorate
much
faster,
then
initially
assessed
or
thought
of,
and
so
people
can
have
input
on
on
how
those
streets
are
prioritized.
Sure.
B
Yeah
we
welcome
everybody's
input,
you
know
it's
big
city,
there's
lots
of
feet
of
curb
and
gutter
and
then
roadways
and
if
there's
an
issue
and-
and
maybe
it's
a
maybe
it's
in
a
higher
traffic
zone.
So
maybe
we
didn't
initially
see
it
at
first,
because
there's
lots
of
traffic
there
and
we
didn't
monitor
it
as
well,
or
maybe
it's
in
a
school
zone.
You
know
we
want
to
make
sure
that
those
areas
or
cyride
bus
route
areas
are
maintained
well
and
they
kind
of
get
a
little
bump
up
on
the
list.
B
B
Yeah
Dodson
drive
is
being
extended
between
mortensen
up
to
that
subdivision.
Behind
the
school
just
north
of
the
middle
school.
Their
plan
still
is
to
have
it
open
for
school
starting
at
the
end
of
august.
So
that's
pretty
exciting
they've.
Actually
slipped
curb
and
gutter
in
there
and
I
think
they're
just
doing
some
more
subgrade
preparations
before
they
come
in
and
lay
the
asphalt
roadway.
Ok,.
B
Correct
Bloomington
road
is
just
a
simple:
it's
like
550
feet
of
resurfacing.
We
do
have
a
lot
of
traffic
up
there
right
now,
due
to
twenty
fourth
Street,
we've
recommended
people
use
that
that
route
no
work
starts
on
that
project
until
24th
streets
done.
We
don't
want
to
cut
off
two
main
corridors
at
the
same
time,
if
we
can
help
it
and.
B
B
We're
actually
way
above
a
common
cipa
from
what
I
understand
again.
I
haven't
been
at
Ames,
very
long,
I
think
I'm
in
my
fourth
month
here
and
typically
wear
anywhere
from
12
to
17
million
dollars
this
year
at
26.
So
it's
a
real
big
year
for
us.
We've
actually
enlisted
the
help
of
a
lot
of
various
sub
consultants
to
help
us
with
the
observation,
even
with
some
of
the
design
of
this
work,
Wow.
A
B
I
mean
it
can
be
frustrating,
as
you
mentioned
before
now
nobody
really
likes
to
deal
with
it,
but
at
the
end
of
the
day,
it's
a
little
bit
of
inconvenience
for
a
long-term
success,
timeline
so
20
to
30
years
for
a
little
one
month,
inconvenience
or
even
if
it's
several
should
pay
off
in
the
end.
Hopefully
so.
A
B
Can
call
me
if
you'd
like
and
goings
contact
me
at
City,
Hall
or
reach
me
by
email,
our
staff,
contacts
and
stuff
are
listed
on
the
city
of
Ames
website.
Also,
we
have
construction
update,
which
is
on
the
city
of
Ames
website
as
well,
which
is
updated
on
a
daily
basis.
If
not,
you
know
weekly,
depending
on
how
much
has
gone
on
so.
A
Definitely
people
can
get
a
hold
of
you
and
there's
other
ways
for
them
to
seek
information.
We
have
updates
on
construction
on
our
social
media
pages
both
on
Twitter
and
on
Facebook,
so
lots
of
ways
to
get
the
word
out
well,
I
know
how
busy
you
are
and
I
appreciate
you
stopping
by
and
sharing
the
update
with
us
sure.
A
If
you
want
more
information
about
construction
projects,
go
to
our
website,
its
veins
org,
slash
construction,
that,
as
you
learned,
is
updated,
almost
daily,
but
definitely
weekly
basis
on
what
projects
are
going
on
in
names
and
where
there
might
be
detours.
Also,
some
other
information,
as
we
get
into
august.
Remember
it's
national
night
out
on
Tuesday
August.
Fourth,
that's
at
bandshell
Park,
that's
a
great
opportunity
to
meet
your
neighbors,
learn
some
crime
prevention
strategies
and
and
just
get
out
and
have
some
fun
some
other
things.
A
If
you're
interested
in
volunteering
remember,
the
city
of
Ames
has
several
boards
and
commissions
and
right
now
we
have
two
openings
on
two
of
our
different
commissions.
You
could
get
more
information
on
that
at
our
website
at
city
of
ames
org.
Well,
that's
our
show
for
today,
thanks
for
watching
and
tune
in
next
week
for
this
week
in
Ames,.
