From YouTube: This Week in Ames
Description
Parks and Recreation Director Keith Abraham talks about two new parks in Ames.
A
A
A
B
Well,
with
the
park
worked
with
a
developer
that
the
felt
that
this
would
be
a
good
place
and
part
of
our
Park
master
plan
identified
a
park
in
this
in
this
area
in
this
neighborhood.
So
when
we
were
able
to
work
with
the
developer
to
get
land,
it
was
a
good
thing.
The
land
itself
came
over
to
the
city
of
Ames
in
late
2012
and
then
we've
been
working
on
the
plans
and
the
development
most
recently
in
the
last
about
year
and
a
half.
B
A
B
A
B
Sunday
concert
series
that
they've
been
doing
for
the
last
roughly
13
years,
and
so
the
the
stage
or
the
shelter
is
actually
going
to
be
double
or
double
as
a
stage.
So
that's
going
to
be
kind
of
a
unique
feature.
That's
going
to
be
in
the
south
end
we're
going
to
have
a
piece
of
artwork
there.
We
have
a
kiosk
which
will
give
the
the
donors,
you
know
some
recognition
and
then
a
north
end.
We'll
have
the
playground
well.
A
B
The
Friends
of
Roosevelt
Park
have
been
great
to
work
with
and
they
developed
right
around
the
time
that
the
school
district
was
thinking
about,
putting
the
or
giving
the
property
to
the
city,
so
they've
been
instrumental
in
making
that
happen,
but
they
did
also
go
out
and
fundraise
over
45
thousand
dollars
for
the
park
to
increase
the
amount
or
to
expand
the
amenities
that
we
have
in
that
park.
So.
A
I
think
the
city's
plan
is
you
mentioned
that
the
park
master
plan
city's
been
very
good
about
not
only
looking
at
areas
where
we're
redeveloping
or
developing,
but
also
redeveloping
property.
One
of
those
parks
that
you
had
mentioned
to
me
earlier
that
it's
going
to
get
maybe
a
little
bit
of
a
facelift
is
Duff
Park
sort
of
a
little-known
park
in
a
sense.
B
A
B
B
Park
yep
it's
on
south,
sixteenth
Street,
so
it's
a
between
duff,
avenue
and
university
boulevard
right
next
to
the
the
christian
school
right
there
on
south
16.
But
it's
a
kind
of
an
odd
shaped
piece,
but
it
was
the
trailhead
we
put
it
into
prairie
grasses.
We
put
a
little
parking
lot
there
and
then
we
actually
this
kind
of
a
unique
situation
where
we
had
a
community
member
who
is
living
in
the
Laverne
apartments,
a
lot
of
kids,
a
lot
of
kids
across
the
street
and
in
some
of
the
housing
and
said
hey.
B
Could
we
do
something
different
with
this
park?
They
came
to
the
Parks
and
Recreation
Commission
Parks
and
Recreation
Commission,
listen
to
what
they
had
to
say
and
we
kind
of
have
changed
the
focus
of
that
park
a
little
bit
and
now
we'll
be
adding
a
piece
of
playground
equipment
there,
because
the
neighborhood
just
doesn't
have
anything
close
by
and.
A
B
It
will
and
then
the
kids
are
excited
to
do
that.
We've
actually
involved
the
kids
and
picking
out
the
piece
of
playground
equipment.
They
were
really
excited
about
that
and
we
talked
to
him
also
about
if
we
do
this
piece
of
playground
equipment
and
we
developed
us
into
more
of
a
usable
park
instead
of
just
prairie
hey
what
are
their
responsibilities
as
children
and
as
an
neighbours
and
be
good
stewards
of
the
land
and
to
vinos
good
citizenship
for
the
city
of
ames
and
help
keep
the
park
clean.
That's.
A
B
Highness
Grove
will
be
getting
the
force
and
volleyball
courts
which
will
be
lighted
and
those
will
be
located
and
ines
Grove
is
on
the
corner
of
24th
and
Duff.
But
the
tenants
are
the
same.
Volleyball
courts
will
go
just
north
of
where
the
tennis
courts
are
it's
a
piece
of
property
that
is
part
of
the
park,
but
it
was
kind
of
sloped
is
kind
of
collected
water.
So
what
we're
doing
is
we're
doing
some
regrading.
B
A
B
And
is
in
with
it
like,
we
talked
about
greenbrier
sand,
volleyball
courts
came
about
from
a
need.
People
come
in
and
talking
to
us
players
that
are
going
to
other
communities.
So
I
guess
it
take
just
a
minute
to
really
encourage
people
that
if
they
have
thoughts,
if
they
have
ideas,
if
there
are
things
that
they'd
like
to
see
done,
whether
it's
in
their
neighborhood
or
a
park
close
by
that
they
should
contact
us
and
and
we'd
love
to
hear
what
they
have
to
say.
All.
A
Right
thanks
Keith
again,
if
you'd,
like
more
information
about
parks
and
things
are
happening,
make
sure
to
check
out
our
city
website
at
that
city
of
Ames
org.
Some
things
for
your
calendar
is:
it
gets
a
little
cooler
into
the
fall.
Remember
yard
waste
free
days
are
coming
up,
they
start
October
24th
can
continue
into
November
and
December.
Finally,
if
you
have
kids
that
might
be
trick-or-treating
this
year,
remember
that
trick
or
treat
and
Ames
will
be
held
on
friday,
October
thirtieth
from
5
30
to
7,
30
p.m.
well.
