A
A
B
We
do
we,
we
just
opened
a
6-3
bridge,
so
that
was
a
long
process
for
us
to
get
through
the
design
and
the
construction
of
the
project.
However,
we
feel
it
was
a
great
great
success.
We
had
great
turnout
and
the
contractor
was
able
to
come
through
with
in
a
relatively
good
time
frame
and
we're
excited
to
have
it
open
now,
yeah.
A
B
That's
it's!
It's
not
uncommon
for
that
time
frame.
I!
Think
some
of
the
things
to
consider
you
know
we
did.
We
did
close
it
during
the
winter
and
we
chose
to
do
that
to
kind
of
hedge,
our
bed
against
any
spring
flooding.
We
were
fortunate
to
have
a
relatively
mild
winter.
The
contractor
did
really
well
getting
that
part
of
that
project
completed
and
then
another
big
portion
that
we
wanted
to
make
sure
we
did
was
making
sure
that
we
got
the
road
completed
for
Iowa.
State
came
in
for
their
fall
semester,
yeah.
B
That's
that
was
very
important
to
us.
You
know
we.
We
had
a
lot
of
feedback
from
Iowa
State
University,
a
lot
of
feedback
from
the
community
on
the
timing
of
the
project
that
was,
we
were
very
sensitive
to
that
and
also
acknowledging
the
other
work.
That's
going
on
around
town
and
making
sure
that
we
can
work
around.
You
know
those
schedules
as
well,
so
it
was
important
for
us
to
get
it
done
and
it
came
off
without
too
many
hitches,
I
think
so.
B
We
we
paid
a
lot
of
attention
during
the
design
phase,
for
that
we
got
a
lot
of
a
lot
of
feedback
from
the
bicycle
and
pedestrian
communities.
Yes,
the
old
bridge,
the
existing
sidewalk
was
only
five
feet
wide
and
it
was
just
adjacent
to
the
to
the
street
there.
So
you
had
cars
that
came
right
up
next
to
you.
B
There
was
no
hand
railing
no
barrier
between
you
there,
so
we
made
a
conscious
effort
when
we
went
through
this
design
phase
two
separate
the
pedestrians
separate,
the
other
multimodal
uses,
such
as
bicycles,
but
also
give
them
an
opportunity
to
be
on
the
bridge
if
they
like.
So
we
still
have
online
bike
on
lane
bike
lanes
on
the
bridge.
Those
still
exist,
but
it
gives
the
the
writer
an
option
for
their
comfort
level,
knowing
that
this
is
a
main
connectivity
between
iowa
state
university
and
downtown
ames,
so
it
services
a
lot
of
people.
B
A
B
And
that
was
another
thing
that
we
had.
We
had
approached
council
with
early
on
during
the
design
phase
of
what
can
we
do?
You
know
it's.
It's
very
limited
opportunities.
We
have
to
build,
you
know
iconic
structures
and
it's
and
it's
it's
maybe
a
stretch
to
call
it
iconic.
But
you
know
this
is
something
that's
going
to
last
for
seven
into
a
hundred
years.
Where
hope
we
hope.
B
So
we
took
a
lot
of
cues
from
the
existing
corridor
from
brookside
park,
so
we
utilize
some
concrete
form
liner
and
some
staining
to
make
the
limestone
look
kind
of
more
natural
there.
We
also
took
into
account
some
lighting
as
well
on
the
bridge.
We
have
LED
lighting
on
the
paths
that
way
its
energy
efficient
and
yet
still
provides
adequate
lighting
for
people
that
cross
the
bridge,
and
then
one
of
the
final
things
we
did
is
we
looked
at
the
existing
bridge
railing
on
the
old
bridge
and
we
modeled
the
new
railing
similar
to
that.
B
A
B
We
were
fortunate
to
be
on
the
Iowa:
do
tease
City
bridge
list.
It
took
us
a
number
of
years
to
reach
the
point
on
that
list
where
we
would
get
funding,
so
we
got
a
grant
of
a
million
dollars
from
the
Iowa
do
t.
We
have
some
matching
funds
with
that
we
matched
twenty
percent
of
that
locally.
Then
the
rest
of
the
project
was
made
up
of
local
funds
here
that
we
we
put
together
so
the
overall
project.
B
The
construction
portion
of
it
was
around
2.5
2.6
million
and
then
we'll
have
some
engineering
and
stuff
on
the
top
of
that,
when
it's
all
said
and
done,
but
ultimately
it
came.
We
got
bids
better
than
we
expected.
So
you
know
that
not
only
was
the
project
a
success,
but
even
the
financing
part
of
it
was
was
a
success
as
well
and.
A
B
We
were
able
to
extend
the
project
limits
to
get
past
Brookside
Park.
We
were
able
to
get
the
entrance
in
at
Brookside
Park
reconfigured,
as
we
had
extended
the
sidewalk
and
a
shared
he's
passed
through
that
area.
On
the
east
end,
we
were
able
to
get
through
the
bridge
approaches
now
to
where
the
the
roadway
comes
back
to
a
normal,
normal
roadway
with
there
we
didn't
get
all
the
way
to
excuse
me.
B
Thank
you,
r
is
what
and
the
reason
we
didn't
get
to
there
it
was
it
was
we
had
to
make
a
decision
at
some
point
in
time
where
the
project
would
end
on
the
funding
side,
so
we
came
out
okay
in
our
bids,
but
we
also
didn't
have
enough
to
eat
all
the
way
through
that
intersection.
So
what's
what
we'll
do
is
we'll
monitor
that
as
the
years
go
on
and
as
necessary,
we
can
make
improvements
to
that
in
future
projects.
Yeah.
A
B
We
had
the
road
closed
for
a
while,
so
it
helped
assist
them
in
their
work,
but
the
whole
area
in
general
just
kind
of
seen
a
little
bit
of
a
revitalization
and
we're
hoping
that
by
encouraging
the
multimodal
use
in
in
the
corridor
that
it
will
also
bring
people
into
Brookside,
Park
more
and
to
the
skate
park
and
utilize
those
facilities
as
well.
So.
A
If
you
want
more
information
about
that
project
or
any
construction
projects,
as
their
ongoing,
be
sure
to
check
out
our
face,
our
city
website
at
city

ames
org,
forward
slash
construction,
also
speaking
of
transportation
and
connectivity,
south
skunk
river
bike
trail
extension
will
be
opening
soon,
we'll
have
a
ribbon
cutting
for
that
event.
At
1030am

Well,
that's
our
