Description
Fire Inspector Tom Henriksen describes the importance of dual sensor smoke detectors.

That
started
back
about
five
years
ago
and
it
took
a
while
to
implement
I
think
it's
starting,
then
I
think
it
was
April
or
so
of
of
2010.
The
state
began
requiring
requiring
any
replacement
or
newly
installed
smoke,
alarms
to
be
of
the
dual
sensing
type
of
alarm,
and
what
they're
looking
at
is
there's
two
different
ways
of
sensing
smoke
with
that
technology.
B
We
are
both
work
quite
well,
there's
documentation
that
photoelectric
will
pick
up
smoke,
Oh
from
a
lazy,
slow
burning
fire
a
little
more
rapidly
where
ionization
will
pick
up
and
go
into
alarm,
maybe
a
little
bit
quicker
on
a
free
burning
type
situation.
So,
since
most
of
your
residential
fires
do
start
out
as
a
slow
burning
fire,
maybe
photoelectric
might
be
the
primary
one
to
look
for,
but
you
have
to
have
dual
sensing
dual
sensing
can
also
mean.
B
A
B
It
is
because
we
can't
sense
it
ourselves
as
human,
it's
odorless
and
colorless,
and
it
sneaks
up
on
you.
So
if
you
have
a
fuel
burning
appliance
that
isn't
vented
properly,
you
can
accumulate
co
in
the
home.
It's
readily
miscible
with
air.
So
it's
a
fairly
buoyant.
It
can
be
found
at
lower
levels
or
all
the
way
up
to
the
ceiling
and.
A
A
B
B
One
other
thing,
I'd
like
to
point
out
about
smoke,
alarms
in
your
home
is
the
importance
of
hardwired,
interconnected
smoke,
alarms,
which
you
know
the
minimum
technology
is
just
battery-operated
smoke
alarms
and
there
is
difficulty
in
getting
hard
wired
ones
into
older
homes,
because
you
have
to
pull
wire
to
do
that,
but
it's
really
important
to
have
those
hardwired,
interconnected
arms,
so
that
you
know,
if
that
one
activates
down
in
the
basement,
you're
sleeping
on
the
second
floor,
you'll
get
the
notification
from
your
second
floor
detector.
Sure.

If
you
think
you
never
had
to
March,
remember
that
the
eco
fair
is
scheduled
from
ten
a.m.
to
two
p.m.
on
saturday,
March
29th,
that's
at
the
aims
community
center.
We
hope
to
see
you.
There
also
remember
that
yard
waste
free
days
mean
up
it's
not
until
April,
but
you
want
to
mark
your
calendars
now
for
Saturday
April
nineteenth.
You
can
find
more
information
about
yard

free
day,

Eco
fire
and
