Description
Jerri discusses volunteer oportunities at the Ames Public Library
A
A
As
you
can
imagine,
I
get
lots
and
lots
of
different
different
answers
about
what
volunteer
is,
and
maybe
their
parents
volunteer
or
maybe
they
they
don't,
but
typically
what
I
respond
to
them
with?
Is
that
a
volunteer
someone
who,
in
this
case,
is
very
passionate
about
the
library
and
wants
to
give
back
to
the
library
some
of
their
knowledge
and
some
of
their
experience
and
some
of
their
time?
And
so
they
donate
their
time.
They
get.
They
work
at
the
library
without
being
paid
at
least
monetarily.
A
They
they
get
paid
in
the
reward
and
satisfaction
of
helping
out
the
community
and
helping
out
their
library
and
often
times
these
little
kids
are
asking
when
they
can
start
volunteering,
and
we
do
have
a
wonderful
program
called
apply
and
with
me
today
is
Iman
and
she's.
The
coordinator
of
apply
our
volunteer
coordinator
program,
a
program
for
our
teens
and
sixth
graders
and
older
correct.
Yes,
so
am
on
tell
us
about
how
you
got
to
this
position
because
I
know
you've
kind
of
started
out
there
as
an
apply
volunteer
yourself.
Yes,.
B
I
applied
to
be
a
volunteer
when
I
was
11
years
old
and
I
volunteered
the
library
for
a
couple
of
years.
I
absolutely
love
the
library.
It
was
a
great
place
to
be
as
a
kid
I
love
being
surrounded
by
books,
and
so,
after
a
couple
of
years
of
volunteering,
with
the
program,
I
decided
to
apply
for
a
position
here
at
the
library
and
I've,
been
working
here
for
almost
10
years
now
and
wow
yeah.
B
B
Yes,
throughout
the
year,
I
typically
work
at
the
circulation
desk
and
sometimes
I
help
out
with
some
of
the
other
departments.
And
then,
during
the
summer,
the
summer
I
helped
with
the
apply
program.
I
was
the
volunteer
coordinator,
and
so
that
just
means
I
play
on
the
program.
We
we
recruit
our
volunteers
and
then,
at
the
end
of
the
summer
program,
we
plan
an
overnighter
party,
pretty
much
just
to
lock
in
here
in
the
library
just
to
celebrate
all
their
hard
work.
And
so
yes,
so
that.
A
A
We
do
have
an
adult
volunteer
program
as
well
today,
we're
just
going
to
talk
about
the
team
and
and
and
maybe
touch
a
little
bit
on
the
family
volunteering
opportunities
that
we
have
to.
But
so,
when
you
were
11
what
made
you
think
that?
What
what
want?
What
drove
you
to
come
to
the
library
and
say
I
want
to
volunteer.
B
The
library
has
always
been
a
place:
I
love
to
come
to
I
was
a
big
reader
when
I
was
younger
and
so
I
just
really
enjoyed
being
here
and
I
just
kind
of
heard.
Other
people
talking
about
you
know
the
opportunity
to
volunteer
here
during
the
summer
and
my
sister,
my
older
sister
had
actually
done
it
a
couple
times,
and
so
she
kind
of
got
me
into
it
and
I
absolutely
loved.
It
do.
A
A
A
B
B
B
A
Do
a
lot
of
support
for
the
youth
services
department.
I
know
we
couldn't
do
our
summer
with
or
have
our
summer
without
having
our
apply
volunteers,
helping
us
out
and
I'm
talking
about
last
year,
because
last
year
we
were
at
the
515
Douglas
play
site,
and
this
year
of
course,
we're
here
at
the
Lincoln
Center
site
and
things
are
totally
different
as
far
as
our
volunteer
jobs
were
concerned,
and
things
so
tell
us
how
you
adapted
from
what
we
knew
worked
really
well
at
515
to
here
at
the
location
here.
B
B
So
our
goal
was
to
kind
of
cut
that
about
in
half
we
mostly
focused
on
helping
out
with
the
family
time
at
the
park
program
for
that
the
youth
services
department
worked
with
this
summer,
and
so
we
yeah
we
mostly
focused
on
that.
We
had
to
fill
those
shifts
with
about
15
volunteers
per
shift
and
it
was
a
daily
program
at
different
parks
and
aims,
and
so
we
yeah
so
after
we
got
those
shifts
filled.
Then
we
have
some.
We
had
some
library
ships
as
well
and.
B
A
B
A
B
Much
yes,
we
didn't
have
to
turn
anyone
away,
which
was
great
because
that's
always
disappointment,
but
it
was
great
that
we
were
able
to
have
all
of
our
all
of
our
volunteers
this
summer,
so
they
applied
and
they
listed
their
interests.
We
had
a
couple
of
different
job
descriptions
listed
on
the
application,
and
so
then
we
would
place
them
where
we
needed
them
based
on
what
they
were
interested
in
so
and.
A
So
then,
these
and
I
can
speak
to
the
family
events
at
the
library
or
you
know,
at
the
parks
and
stuff
about
they
were
placed
then
in
different
locations
in
the
park.
As
far
as
the
booths,
or
you
know
the
activities
that
we
had,
but
they
also
helped
a
lot
creating
those
crafts
or
you
know,
help
in
that
preparation
that
was
kind
of
behind
the
scenes
as
well
totally.
A
But
but
it's
really
neat
to
to
have
have
our
young
apply
volunteers
to
be
out
there
with
our
younger
family
members
to
so
like
going
back
to
that
tour.
That
I
was
talking
about
at
the
beginning,
so
those
kids
can
see
the
the
younger
people
participating
and
giving
back
to
the
to
the
library
and
and
then
we
had
a
variety
of
activities
to
kind
of
to
help
celebrate
their
they're.
Giving
to
the
library
so
I
know
we
had
a
couple
Friday
afternoons
where
they
got
to
play
and
play
water
in
the
park
and
and.
B
B
Definitely
just
to
kind
of
because
they
don't
always
work
with.
You
know
they
don't
get
a
chance
to
see
all
the
other
volunteers,
like
sometimes
they're,
just
around
five
or
ten
different
volunteers,
and
so
we
wanted
to
give
them
a
chance
to
get
to
know
some
of
our
other
volunteers
in
the
program.
So
we
set
up
a
couple
of
fridays
this
summer,
just
to
have
some
fun
time
in
the
park.
We
played
capture
the
flag
and
then
just
a
lot
of
water
fun.
Definitely
because
it
was
hot.
A
Those
birthdays,
yes,
it
was
a
lot
of
fun,
not
those
days
it
yeah
I'm
sure,
and
it
is
especially
with
our
well
I
think
for
all
volunteers.
It's
important
for
that
social,
like
socialization,
to
go
on
as
well
that
that's
part
of
the
benefits
of
volunteering
as
well,
as
you
know,
giving
back
to
the
community
and
then
developing
those
skills,
because,
just
as
you
were
able
to
get
a
job
here
at
the
library,
you
know,
the
volunteers
can
also
write
those
down
on
the
applications.
A
You
know
when
they
start
applying
for
jobs
that
they
have
volunteered
at
the
library
and
and
have
given
back
to
the
community
and
hopefully
learned
some
of
the
skills
that
they
need
as
well,
because
that's
also
important
part
of
our
volunteer
program
is
to
help
them
develop,
that
responsibility
of
showing
up
on
time
and
doing
their
job
well
and
being
a
part
of
a
whole.
So
definitely.
B
A
We
thank
you
very
much
for
all
your
help
in
doing
that,
and
it's
always
exciting
to
me.
I
think
aims.
Public
library
is
very
good
at
growing
our
librarians
or
growing
our
library,
employees
and
it,
and
now
that
you
said
that
you've
been
here
11
years
and
I've
seen
you
grow
thru
and
it
just
seems
like
it
was
yesterday
that.
A
That
we
were
all
just
starting
and
working
together,
because
I
know
you.
You
also
helped
us
out
in
the
youth
Department
quite
a
bit
yeah.
So
it's
a
fun
time
to
be
able
to
do
that
so
moms
and
dads,
if
you
do
have
children
that
that
are
young
young
family
members
that
would
like
to
volunteer
at
the
library
apply,
is
a
year-round
program
and
you
can
come
on
in
and
talk
to
Sarah
bulky
our
volunteer
coordinator
to
get
signed
signed
up.
You
also
can
work
as
a
family
and
all
ages
can
help
volunteer.
A
We
do
have
some
family
members
that
come
in
on
a
regular
basis
and
the
whole
family
comes
in
in
volunteers
and,
of
course,
our
moving
project
that
we
have
last
year.
Lots
of
families
and
lots
of
people
volunteered
many
many
hours
to
help
that
out
and
we
will
have
that
opportunity
another
time
coming
soon
in
the
next
year.
So
if
you
are
interested,
even
even
as
an
adult
to
come
in
and
just
talk
to
Sarah
bulky
our
volunteer
coordinator
and
we
can
get
you
a
volunteer
job
to
help
you
out
as
well.
