From YouTube: Where's Brian?
Description
If you have seen the yellow topped parking meters popping up around town, you have to watch this episode of Where's Brian?
A
On
today's
episode
of
where
is
brian,
we're
going
to
be
working
with
the
division,
that's
a
charge
of
everything
from
airplanes
to
bicycles.
There
are
962
devices
that
this
division
is
in
charge
of
maintaining,
and
today
we
get
to
help
them
and
change
out
a
few
of
them.
Do
you
know
where
I
am
today,
I'm
brian
phillips?
On
most
days,
I
work
in
an
office
for
the
aim
city
manager,
since
starting
here,
I've
learned
a
lot
about
the
different
job
city.
Employees
have
many
of
them.
A
The
public
works
department
has
a
vast
array
of
responsibilities.
Previously,
we've
worked
with
this
department
to
study
traffic
patterns
and
repair
streets
today,
we'll
be
working
with
the
new
smart
parking
meters
good
morning
Brad
morning
Ryan.
How
are
you
doing
good?
Are
you
well
thanks
for
joining
us
out
here
on
Main
Street,
my
pleasure,
why
don't
you
tell
us
a
little
bit
about
your
duties
as
a
city
of
Ames,
employee,
okay,.
B
Well,
my
official
job
title
is
traffic
signal,
technician,
lead
workers,
so
I
know
that's
kind
of
a
mouth
yeah,
but
my
main
duties
are
keeping
the
traffic
signals
here
in
Ames
functioning.
On
top
of
that,
and
basically
the
foreman
of
the
traffic
department,
our
traffic
department
takes
care
of
the
traffic
signs.
The
pavement
markings
the
parking
meters.
We
also
help
set
up
for
special
events,
as
you
could
imagine
we're
pretty
busy,
especially
during
the
summer
months
when
the
weather
allows
us
to
get
out
and
get
a
lot
of
our
work
done
so
yeah.
A
B
Most
of
our
meters
here
in
town
were
the
coin-operated
mechanisms
where
you
feed
the
meter
coins
and
it
puts
time
on
the
mechanism
for
you
and
allows
you
to
park
there
for
a
certain
period
of
time
a
while
back.
We
had
some
customers
approaches
who
park
in
a
lot
of
the
lots
for
long
term
periods.
So
they'll
be.
You
know,
they're
employed
and
businesses
nearby.
So
every
day
they
have
to
come
to
work
and
feed.
This
meter
full
of
coins,
and
they
just
wondered
if
there
was
a
better
way
for
putting
time
on
the
meter.
B
So
we
contacted
our
sales
representative
for
the
meters
that
we
use
and
they
said
there
is
a
solution
for
that.
They
came
out
with
the
smartcard
meters
that
allow
you
to
stick
a
card
in
the
meter.
It
will
put
an
amount
of
time
on
the
meter
for,
however
long
you
leave
the
card
in
and
once
you
remove
your
card
it
will.
It
will
put
time
on
the
meter
for
you
and
then,
when
you
come
back,
you
can
stick
your
card
back
in
and
get
a
refund
for
the
unused
amount
of
time.
Oh.
B
B
Right
well,
what
are
we
going
to
be
doing
today
today,
I'm
going
to
be
showing
you
how
we
change
out
an
old
coin
mechanism
to
a
new
mechanism
that
takes
both
points
and
smart
cards?
Okay,.
B
Okay,
Brian
today
we're
here
at
one
of
our
parking
meters
and
I'm,
going
to
show
you
how
to
change
out
the
coin-operated
mechanism
to
one
that
also
accepts
the
smart
cards.
Okay,
our
parking
meters
have
three
main
parts:
there's
a
top
right
here.
There's
a
mechanism
inside
and
there's
the
coin
box
down
here.
B
A
A
B
B
A
B
B
B
B
Well,
finally,
I'm
going
to
show
you
how
to
use
the
smart
card
in
the
meter.
Okay,
the
first
thing
to
know
is
all
of
our
meters
a
lot
of
different
areas.
We
have
different
time
limits
that
allow
you
to
park
there
for
a
certain
amount
of
time.
As
you
can
tell,
this
meter
is
a
10
hour
meter,
so
you
can
park
in
this
spot
for
10
hours,
okay,
so
the
first
thing
you're
going
to
do
is
stick
this
card
in.
B
Want
to
get
it
straight
in
there
and
if
you
look
at
the
front
of
the
meter,
it'll
show
you
the
balance
on
your
card
and
then
it's
going
to
start
counting
up
and
half
hour
increments.
So,
depending
on
how
long
you
want
to
park
here,
you
leave
your
card
in
for
that
length
of
time.
So
let's
say
we
want
to
park
here
for
four
hours.
So
it's
counting
up
to
four
hours
and
half
hour
increments.
We're
going
to
pull
our
card
out
and
there's
four
hours
on
the
meter.
Then.
