Description
On today’s show we’re working with a division that combines, cleaning, maintenance, and emergent reparations. The work they do takes them all around the city daily. Do you know where I am today?
A
On
today's
show,
we're
going
to
be
working
with
a
division
that
cleans
maintains
and
repairs
infrastructure
that
hides
out
of
sight,
although
you
don't
notice
it
on
a
regular
basis,
you
definitely
notice
if
these
vital
parts
weren't
working
correctly,
do
you
know
where
I
am
today,
I'm
brian
phillips.
On
most
days,
I
work
in
an
office
for
the
aim
city
manager,
since
starting
here,
I've
learned
a
lot
about
the
different
job
city.
Employees
have
many
of
them.
A
The
utility
maintenance
division
is
responsible
for
repairing
water
mains
quickly
and
effectively
when
they
break
maintaining
fire,
hydrants
and
cleaning
and
maintaining
the
city's
198
miles
of
sanitary
sewer
lines
through
flushing
the
lines
on
a
regular
basis.
Today,
we'll
get
to
see
a
small
part
of
the
work
they
do
to
keep
water
flowing
to
and
away
from
our
homes
and
businesses
morning,
Dale
hi,
Brian
how's
it
going
this
morning
pretty
good.
How
are
you
good
so
deal?
How
long
have
you
been
with
the
city
about
23
years?
Alright,
what
do
you
currently
do.
B
B
Basis
this
time
of
year
we're
doing
a
lot
with
our
valve
exercise,
which
we're
going
to
get
you
involved
in
here.
In
a
few
minutes,
we
also
do
jetting
the
sanitary
sewers,
doing
preventative
maintenance,
okay
and
then
doing
utility
locates,
trying
to
prevent
utilities
being
damaged
kind
of
with
all
the
construction
activities
taking
place.
Okay,
this
time
of
year,
so.
A
B
Got
some
water
valves
that
are
over
a
hundred
years
old
we've
got
your
water
mains
from
involves
from
four
inches
up
to
30
inches,
and
so
just
like
we've
just
kind
of
wrapped
up
a
project
on
13
Street.
With
our
valve
exercise,
we
found
out
that
we
had
some
valves
that
weren't
operating
properly
and
so
we're
trying
to
minimize
those
affected
when
we
do
have
a
water
main
breaker,
a
water
main,
would
get
damaged
and
need
to
shut
things
down
during
an
emergency.
Okay
does.
B
A
C
C
A
C
What
you
do
is
you
come
up
and
you
would
look
on
the
iPad
and
make
sure
what
you
got
figure
out,
what
you're
going
to
be
doing,
which
ones
you're
going
to
be
turning
we
want.
We
do
want
to
turn
everything
when
we
hit
an
intersection
to
make
sure
everything
is
working.
Okay,
once
you
get
that
figured
out
pop
the
lids
and
put
the
stem
on
fire
up
the
machine
unhook
it
spinning
around
and
get
ready
to
start
turning
valves.
Ok,.

D

C
C
Any
clothes
anywhere
yeah
we
turn
most
of
our
vows,
had
a
hundred
and
seventy-five
foot-pounds
of
torque.
Okay.
If
we
run
into
a
valve
that
has
an
issue
where
it
doesn't
want
to
turn,
then
we're
able
to
crank
it
up.
This
machine
has
800
foot-pounds
of
torque,
so,
okay,
hopefully
we
don't
arrest,
use
all
that.
Well,.
A
C
Kind
of
out
that
we
turn
today
is
a
city
water
valve
that
shuts
down
there
all
of
our
mainline
valves.
When
you
see
these
that
as
a
curb
box,
that's
the
line
going
into
a
homes
in
town
or
businesses.
Okay,
this
is
the
homeowners
way
to
shut
off
their
water.
Okay,.

A
D
Is
our
truck
that
we
use
for
doing
our
sewer
maintenance?
We
do
routine
maintenance
on
at
least
twenty-five
percent
of
our
sewer
system
here
Wow
and
has
1500
gallons
of
fresh
water
on
it
and
about
12
cubic
yard
tank
on
it,
which
we
use
for
backing.
Okay
up
the
material
that
we
pull
out
of
the
sewers.
Okay
has
over
700
feet
of
hose
on
it
and
we
can
clean
any
lines
from
a
six
inch
line
up
to
about
36
inch
line.
Wow.

it
out,
