Description
On this episode we’re working with an agency that helps you get around town. They operate 21 hours a day, 359 days per year. Do you know where I am today?
A
On
today's
show,
we're
going
to
be
working
with
an
agency
that
helps
you
get
around
town.
The
staff
here
works
21
hours
a
day,
359
days
per
year.
Do
you
know
where
I
am
today,
I'm
brian
phillips.
On
most
days,
I
work
in
an
office
for
the
ames
city
manager,
since
starting
here
I've
learned
a
lot
about
the
different
jobs
city.
Employees
have
many
of
them.
You
might
see
every
day,
others
work
behind
the
scenes
to
provide
quality
programs
and
exceptional
service
to
the
community,
and
that's
why
I'm
here
to
experience
the
different
jobs.
A
B
A
B
Is
a
new
part
of
the
building
that
we
just
finished
up
this
last
spring
and
it
actually
was
supposed
to
hold
11
vehicles
and
we've
been
able
to
put
actually
14
in
so,
unfortunately,
that
still
leaves
us
with
about
five
or
six
parked
outside
on
a
nightly
basis.
But
it's
been
a
great
improvement
for
our
facility
in
this
last
year.
B
Well,
one
along
with
this
construction,
we
also
did
flood
protection.
If
you
remember
we,
our
facility
flooded
back
in
2010,
so
as
part
of
this
construction,
we
built
a
kind
of
retaining
wall
around
the
building,
so
you
know
if
it
ever,
it
does
flood
again
here
in
ames.
B
B
C
B
Are
two
factors
that
that
tend
to
make
our
ridership
increase
and
we
had
a
particularly
hard
winter
last
year,
which
allowed
a
lot
more
people
to
use
the
buses
so
kind
of
had
a
double
whammy.
If
you
want
to
call
it
that
last
year,
with
a
12
ridership
increase
this
year,
we're
seeing
about
a
5
increase,
which
will
put
us
right
about.
7
million
rides
provided
this
year.
So.
B
Well,
obviously,
the
constraints
with
the
fleet
and
we're
standing
here
and
we
saw
buses
parked
outside.
We
did
just
purchase
five
more
used
buses
that
we
will
refurbish
and
have
ready
to
go
for
next
fall
for
any
increases
that
we
would
see,
then
obviously,
drivers
we're
always
short
drivers,
so
anyone
they
would
like
to
drive,
we
would
love
to
have
them
come
drive
for
cyride,
so
it
those
are
probably
the
two
main
constraints
that
we
have
as
we
continue
to
grow.
A
B
Lane
workers
vary
a
couple
of
different
jobs
within
that
one
is
obviously
each
night
they
fuel
and
and
get
the
buses
ready
to
go
for
the
next
morning,
put
them
away
in
the
parking
park
them
in
the
in
the
facility.
But
then,
in
the
morning
we
kind
of
have
the
reverse,
where
we
have
a
lane
worker
help
to
kind
of
unpack
the
vehicles,
so
the
drivers
can
more
quickly
get
into
their
vehicles
and
get
out
and
provide
service
to
the
community.
Okay,.
A
A
Buses
started
so
what's
the
first
thing
we
need
to
do
here.
Well,.
D
D
A
D
D
D
D
D
A
D
A
A
C
D
D
A
D
A
D
A
Just
turn
this
handle
the
key
yeah.
The
key.
D
A
A
D
Okay
and
now
we've
gone
to
bus
and
we're
a
little
room,
sweep
it
out.
A
D
D
The
seats
the
brakes
that
for
everything
for
the
brake
unit,
stuff.
D
D
D
D
Them
to
fill
up
yeah
when
you,
like
you,
hear
this
one,
making
noise,
it's
full
okay,
sometimes
it'll,
just
it'll,
just
some
of
them
will
make
a
noise
at
all.
You
know
just
sit
quiet.
C
D
D
D
D
A
D
D
No,
it's
tough
to
get
40
footers
anyway,
you
know
and
then
they've
got
the
mini
buses
parked
in
here
four
company
cars.
You
got
it
here,
it's
a
full
house
at
night
yeah,
you
know,
and
then
you
see
what
happens.
If
they
don't
give
me
enough
room,
then
you
gotta
and
they're
doing
actually
doing
extra
work
because
you
got
to
walk
around
two
buses.
Instead,
I
want
to
get
back
to
the
one
that
you
want
to
do
yeah,
but.
A
A
Okay,
joe
so
we've
got
all
the
buses
aired
up
out
front,
we're
coming
back
here
to
the
bus
wash
and
we're
gonna
run
this
bus
through.
Yes,
we.
D
D
D
C
D
D
D
D
D
D
D
D
Yes,
we
got
to
scrub
scrub
the
oil
spots
up
and
get
a
lot
of
the
loose
dust
and
dirt
up,
because
when
the
buses
come
through,
it's
all
floating
in
the
air
sure
yeah.
So
we
want
to
get
most
of
it
up
so
you're,
not
breathing
it
all
the
time.
Okay,
sometimes
we
get
a
lot
of
dust.
I
just
use
the
hoses
fire
hoses
and
squirt
the
floor
down
and
then
squeegee
later
with
this.
D
Beast
work
all
right,
just
turn
the
key
on
okay
and
right
all
right:
a
battery
will
shine
up
and
water
gauge
will
show
okay.
D
D
D
D
D
D
D
A
Okay,
joe,
I
think
I've
got
the
hang
of
this
if
you
want,
I
can
finish
up
this
segment
of
the
garage
and
let
you
take
a
bit
of
a
break.
Well,
it
works
for
me
all
right,
thanks
for
your
time
today,.
