city
council
meeting
highlights
on
Monday
March
twentieth.
The
city
council
met
in
regular
session,
submitting
opened
with
communication
from
City
Council
members
president
nicely
inform
the
council
of
a
carry-out
liquor
permit
Dean
requested
at

court
street,
so

recognized.

in

the
meeting,
councilmember

concerned

the

to
pay
for
parking
without
the
meter.

on
the
agenda
were
ordinance.

council
decided
against
tabling
the
ordinance
concerning
the
east
state
street
design
and
to
move
forward
with
the
plan.
After
considerable
conversation
amongst
the
council,
the
ordinance
was
approved.
Councilmember
poppy
moved
to
amend
the
ordinate.
Suspending
the
noise
in
downtown
area
for
boogie
on
the
bricks
in
the
police
department
requested
more
specific
language
to
provide
a
better
enforcement.

ordinance

for
the
final
time
were
approved.
The
council
then
moved
on
to
ordinance
beam,
read
for
the
second
and
then
first
reading,
councilmember
McGee
presented
in
ordinance
to
amend
the
city
code
regarding
sidewalk
obstruction.
He
has
expressed
concerns
that
sidewalks
are
closed
to
the
public
longer
than
it's
needed
to
complete
the
work.
A
More
information
about
this
ordinance
will
be
discussed
at
the
next
regular
session
meeting
council
move
to
suspend
the
three
reading
rule
in
order
to
adopt
an
ordinance
to
move
forward
with
the
lawsuit
on
behalf
of
the
city
of
Athens,
declaring
substitute
Senate
bill
331
as
unconstitutional
and
in
violation
of
Ohio
law.
Next,
the
council
reappointed
Nancy
Walker
Alton
alternatives.
Member
of
the
Athens
shade
tree
Commission
and
Erin
Thompson
was
reappointed
to
serve
as
an
alternate
on
the
board
of
zoning.
Appeals
council
then
accepted
the
auditors
februari
2017
financial
reports.
