city
council
meeting
highlights
on
Monday
februari
13th
the
city
council
held
committee
meetings,
opening
with
the
Planning
and
Development
Committee,
where
councilmember
fall
introduced
several
different
topics.
She
first
introduced
University
planner,
Shana
Bolin,
requesting
the
city
vacates
a
portion
of
more
Avenue
to
high
university
to
provide
a
new
home
for
the
Heritage
College
of
Osteopathic
Medicine.

The
portion
of
more
Avenue
the
university
is
hoping
to
take
over
is
not
heavily
used
by
the
city.
There
are
no
design
for
this
project,
yet
the
planning
team
is
waiting
for
feedback
from
the
council.
This
project
will
enhance
the
outdoor
activity
space
and
enhance
the
walkways
city
council
will
be
moving
forward
next
Monday,
with
the
first
reading
of
an
ordinance
to
vacate
next,
the
council
discussed
prayed
permits,
the
city
discuss
changing
and
the
timeline
to
submit
an
application
for
a
permit
from
no
less
than
three
weeks
to
no
less
than
one
week.

explained
that
requesting
the
permit

in
advance
gives
the
police
department

planning
time
to
affirm.

being
given
to
change
the
penalty
from
a
minor,
miss
edema
to
an
administrative
fine
for
violators.
Next
to
council
discussed
repelling
the
tenant
education
forum.
The
forum
is
being
repealed
because
it
is
ineffective
and
requires
a
great
deal
of
staff
time
each
year
to
process
and
dispose
of
the
forms.
Discussion
included
other
ways.
The
city
can
educate
tennis
on
the
important
information
about
living
off
campus,
possibly
using
the
city
sourced
mobile
app
as
well
as
a
city
website.
The
municipal
Arts
Commission
has
requested
increasing
its
membership.

The
Commission
currently
has
seven
members
and
would
like
to
increase
it
to
nine
next
the
agenda.
Next,
on
the
agenda,
the
committee
discussed
introducing
a
resolution
next
week
strongly
opposing
states
proposal
to
centralize
municipal
income
taxes.
The
proposal
will
cause
a
substantial
loss
of
revenue
needed
to
support
ohayou
Sibley's
next,
the
committee
discussed
entered
introducing
a
resolution
and
opposing
the
presidential
executive
order
banning
entry
into
the
United
States
from
immigrants
from
seven
countries
and
refugees
from
around
the
world.

Lastly,
the
Transportation
Committee
heard
from
boogie
on
the
bricks
event
coordinator,
Judy
Weimer,
describing
the
event
in
requesting
street
closures
for
their
music
festival
to
be
held
on
june,
seventeenth
told
p.m.
to
11pm
with
a
6am
street
closure.
Next,
the
committee
discussed
the
US
33
interchange,
east
state
street
design,
e
straight
east
state
street
from
east
park.
Drive
moving
east
will
be
paved
this
year
and
sidewalks
from
south
side
of
each
state
street
will
be
constructed
from
CVS
to
lowes.
A
Most
of
the
33
interchange
work
will
occur
in
2018,
a
public
forum
for
citizens
was
held
last
week
on
the
North
Congress
Street
sewer
line
for
project.
The
council
will
introduce
legislation
next
Monday
to
authorize
construction
and
engineering
service
to
improve
this
aging
infrastructure.
Last
on
the
agenda,
councilman
Costas
spoke
on
a
seminar
he
attended
concerning
active
transportation
through
this
seminar.
Costas
hopes
that
the
city
can
come
together
to
make
transportation
more
accessible
and
safe.
The
meeting
was
adjourned
approximately
at
nine-thirty
p.m.
