update
on
Monday
September
18th
at
7
p.m.
City
Council
met
in
regular
session
in
ordinance
banning
parking
and
closing
a
portion
of
court
Street
from
mulberry
to
carpenter
on
October,
28th
and
29th
in
anticipation
of
the
large
Halloween
crowds
was
read
for
a
final
time
in
council
voted
unanimously
to
adopt
the
ordinance
next
council
moved
on
to
ordinances
for
second
reading,
the
first
of
which
was
0

17
in
ordinance
amending
the
2017
appropriation
ordinance.

The
rules
were
suspended
for
this
ordinance
due
to
time
constraints
to
make
timely
payments
on
some
fire
equipment.
The
ordinance
was
then
passed
after
finishing
the
ordinances
for
second
reading.
Council
moved
on
to
the
ordinances
for
first
reading,
City
Council
discussed
ordinance,

authorizing
the
design
engineering
of
the
Richland
pedestrian
improvements.
A
grant
from
the
Ohio
Department
of
Transportation
will
pay
95
percent
of
the
cost
of
this
project
to
construct
an
underground
walkway
near
Porter
Hall.
That
will
be
approximately
30
feet
wide.

next
ordinance
for
first
reading

was
an
ordinance
establishing
the
Athens
city.
Affordable
housing.
Commission
Councilwoman
fall
moved
to
table
this
ordinance
to
allow
further
discussion
in
committee
next
Monday
for
possible
amendments.
The
motion
to
table
was
seconded
and
approved
ordinance
zeros
11-17
authorizing
the
JPAC
barbecue
was
read
to
approve
closing
Park
Place
West
Mulberry
in
a
portion
of
Court
Street
on
Tuesday
September
26th,
with
a
reign
date
of
Wednesday
the
27th.
For
this
event,
with
the
BBQ
only
a
week
away,
the
rules
were
suspended
and
the
ordinance
was
unanimously
approved.

An
ordinance
discussing
items
no
longer
needed
for
a
municipal
purpose
was
discussed,
and
the
council
then
moved
on
to
the
final
ordinance
for
first
reading,

the
rules
were
suspended
and
the
ordinance
was
adopted
due
to
the
urgent
nature
of
the
ordinance
to
authorize
construction
and
construction
engineering
of
the
water
treatment
plant
facilities.
Improvements
council
then
moved
on
to
a
one
reading
resolution

17,
supporting
the
tentative
award
of
a
contract
for
construction
of
the
water
treatment
plant.

The
resolution
was
approved
unanimously
by
the
council
other
business
for
the
meeting
included
a
motion
to
amend
City
Council
rule
number
5,
which
was
approved

motion
to
accept
the
auditors.
August
2017
financial
reports
was
also
approved
and,
finally,
the
appointment
of
Brandon
Thompson
to
the
Recreation
Advisory
Board
was
approved
council
adjourned
at
approximately
7:40
p.m.
