Description
Mayor's Press Conference October 9, 2019
A
A
You
Kyle
any
any
Rufus.
A
To
8
p.m.
yep
and
then
what's
going
on
after
that,
the
homecoming
praying
game
be
where
everybody
homecoming
parade,
starting
at
10:00,
10:00
a.m.
10:00
a.m.
so
know
that
there's
gonna
be
a
rather
large
extensive
street,
closing
uptown
for
the
parade
and
then
obviously
things
will
open
right
back
up
again
right.
Thanks
Carl,
you
know
any
any
roof
of
sightings
nice
weekend.
A
On
number
one
Rufus
fans
right
here,
folks,
I'm
gonna,
start
off
with
something
that
has
been
long
awaited
for,
and
that
is
that
yay,
the
parking
garage
elevator
is
now
operational.
Thank
goodness.
I
know
that
it's
we've
had
a
lot
of
fits
and
starts
with
that
elevator
in
terms
of
getting
the
mechanicals
after
the
lightning
strike.
It
is
now
operational,
pleased
to
say,
I
have
to
give
a
lot
of
credit
to
Deputy
Service
Safety
Director
for
constantly
putting
the
pressure
on
the
maintenance
company
to
get
that
done.
But
that's
done
some
Street
improvement
updates.
A
What
we're
going
to
be
looking
at
to
continue
through
the
14th
is
the
u.s.
33
us
u.s.,
50
I'm.
Sorry
u.s.
32
times
curve
to
Richland
Avenue
ramp
Hillcrest
is
the
the
portion
that
was
recently
annexed
into
the
city,
the
very
West
only
portion
of
Hillcrest
Road
that
will
be
repaved,
cable,
Lane,
that's
an
extensive
one,
cable
Lane!
A
It's
going
all
the
way
from
18
cable
Lane,
which
is
just
where
cable
Lane
starts
to
rise
up
and
it'll,
go
all
the
way
up
to
Strauss,
run
road
and
then
finally,
Schafer
Richland
Avenue
to
West
Union
Street.
So,
as
usual
paving
you
know
it's
really
nice
outside
now,
but
paving
is
one
of
those
things
where
if
we
have
a
significant
downpour,
a
lot
of
moisture
on
the
ground,
repaving
paving
can't
take
place.
At
least
the
asphalt
lane
can't
go
on
at
that
point
in
time.
A
Just
because
we're
not
going
to
get
a
good
adherence,
let's
see
Hooper
Street
closure
that
will
continue
on
through
the
11th,
where
there's
going
to
be
a
lot
of
bridge
deck
maintenance
taking
place
on
that
something
else
to
put
on
everyone's
radar
is
the
water
treatment
plant
improvements,
project
huibin
cutting
ceremony?
This
would
be
October
16th
and
it
will
be
from
it'll
start
at
3
p.m.
we're
also
gonna
go
join
that
or
join
it
with
the
soul.
Smart.
A
The
whole
month
is
soul,
smart
month,
which
is
making
paving
the
way
for
people
to
have
easier
or
a
more
streamlined
way
of
getting
solar
put
on
their
homes.
So
we're
gonna
going
to
co-mingle
the
ribbon-cutting
and
largely
because
we
have
a
significant
solar
array
down
there
at
the
water
treatment
plant.
So
keep
that
in
mind
as
well.
It
Ryan,
if
you
would
queue
up
for
us,
the
leaf,
pickup
schedule.
I
know
you've
got
the
the
map
out
there.
A
There
you
go
I'll
just
read
through
the
first
week
the
round
of
leaf
pickup,
let's
see
area
one
which
is
pretty
much
east,
8th,
Street
and
then
on
up
Columbia
and
all
the
way
out
in
that
direction.
In
Columbus
Road,
that's
going
to
be
October
7th
through
the
11th
area,
which
is
the
Uptown
area
and
the
west
side
that
will
be
October
14th
through
October
18th
area
3,
which
is
south
side
and
then
up
into
ridges.
A
That's
going
to
be
October
21st
through
October
25th
and
then
it'll
go
on
three
more
two
more
iterations
and
then
there
will
be
a
final
pickup.
So
keep
that
in
mind!
That's
also
by
the
way
on
the
city's
website,
so
anyone
can
look
at
that
to
see
when
you
need
to
rake
your
leaves
out
to
the
curb
we've
got
2019
adult
co-ed
duck
soup
tournament.
Okay,
registration
for
that
ends,
October
27.
The
tournament
will
be
November
2nd.
It
is
a
two
hundred
dollar
per
team
registration.
A
It'll,
be
three
games
guaranteed
so
come
out
and
enjoy
some
some
softball
I,
don't
know!
Maybe
we
can
get
a
city
team
together
and
enjoy
us,
so
you
guys
can
beat
up
on
the
city
a
little
bit
Youth
futsal.
This
is
for
kids.
Fifth
through
ninth
grade
registration
is
through
October
27th.
So
if
you're
into
futsal
come
and
do
that,
the
season
will
begin
November,
5th
and
run
through
to
some
December
5th
$35
per
child
Tuesdays
and
Thursdays.
Fifth
and
sixth
graders
are
six
to
two
7:15
p.m.
A
and
the
seventh
eighth
and
ninth
graders
are
7:15
to
8:45
p.m.
this
is
all
at
the
Athens
Community
Center
gym
Halloween
game
night,
which
is
the
last
thing
I've
got
in
front
of
me.
Admission
is
free
to
all.
Let's
see
this
is
October
31st
and,
as
I
had
mentioned
before,
this
is
good
to
reinforce.
That
is
that
the
neighborhood
trick-or-treating
will
also
be
on
October
31st
forevermore
and
we've
extended
the
time
as
well
to
where
it'll
be
5:30
to
7:30
p.m.
A
an
additional
hour
for
you
to
get
your
children
or
grandchildren
out
there
trick-or-treating
and
the
cool
thing
about
having
an
additional
hour.
It
gives
people
a
chance
to
slow
down
and
actually
engage
as
opposed
to
having
it
in
one
hour
where
people
are
scrambling
from
house
to
house
kids
tripping
over
each
other.
If
you
get
as
much
candy
to
make
our
local
dentists
very
very
happy
anyway,
Halloween
game
night
October,
31st
7:00
to
7:00
to
8:30
p.m.
A
at
the
Athens
Community
Center
we're
going
to
be
doing
something
special
and
different
with
the
press
conference
today,
and
that
is,
we
have
a
fire
department,
captain
promotion
that
we're
going
to
do
and
I'm
going
to
ask
captain
Latta
and
his
family,
as
well
as
chief
rhymer
who's
here
today,
and
I
also
want
to
give
a
real,
quick
shout
out
to
chief
rhymer
and
wish
him
a
belated
Happy.
Birthday
chief
and
he's
back,
there
blushing
actually
he's
act,
they're
back
they're
gritting
his
teeth.
Looking
at
me
like.
