Description
Mayor's Press Conference February 5, 2020
A
Good
afternoon
welcome
once
again
the
mayor's
weekly
press
conference.
Minoo
again,
we
talked
a
little
bit
about
this
last
week.
Is
it's
hard
to
believe
that
we're
in
the
early
part
of
February,
especially
since
over
the
weekend
we
have
a
string
of
60-degree
days,
which
is
just
unthinkable
unthinkably
to
me,
but
it's
I
think
somewhat
unthinkable
to
Kyle
we're
bouncing
all
over
the
place
with
weather,
but
it's
a
little
chilly
outside
right
now
so
Kyle
once
you
tell
us
what
we're
in
store
for
for
the
rest
of
the
day
and
then
through
the
week.
B
Social
days
could
be
rainy
conditions,
high
of
41
38,
chance
of
rain
70
percent
tomorrow,
rainy
conditions
by
44
vote,
29
chance
of
rain
70
percent
Friday
snow
showers,
high
of
34
low
of
25,
chance
of
snow
60%
snow
accumulations
less
than
1
inch
Saturday,
mostly
cloudy
skies,
high
40
low
24
sunday,
partly
cloudy
skies
high
45
of
39
monday
showers,
high
47
low
of
36
Tuesday
morning
showers,
high
49,
low
36
and
Wednesday
showers,
high
48
love
44.
Now.
A
A
B
Saturday,
it's
a
doubleheader
basketball
games,
woman's
at
1,
o
clock
versus
Kent
State
entry,
30
minutes
against
Miami
at
the
combo
and
sunny.
It's
also
wrestling
matches
a
day
for
warriors
Sunday
versus
North,
Northern
Illinois
at
1:00
at
noon
and
South
Dakota
at
2:00
o'clock
at
the
convocation
center.
So
how
is
the
wrestling
team
this
year?
Good.
A
A
Sibs
I
know
you're,
not
watching,
but
please
be
careful
when
you're
out
there.
More
importantly,
the
will
you
students
who
have
their
own
sibs,
younger
or
older
here
please
watch
out
for
them
and
take
good
care
of
them.
So
Kyle.
Thank
you
for
updating
us
on
all
things.
Oftens
other
things,
all
things
Athens
that
are
going
on
right
now
or
soon
soon
and
I'm
gonna
continue
to
bring
this
to
the
fore,
and
that
is
that
the
Richland
Avenue
pedestrian
passageway,
which
you
have
heard
me
talk
about
ad
nauseam,
is
going
to
be
released.
A
So
everything
is
this
year
and
there
again
you
can
see
that
detour
pattern
around
the
Richland
Avenue
construction
site
to
where,
if
you're
heading
northbound
on
Richland
Avenue
crossing
the
Richland
Avenue
bridge
over
the
Hocking
River
you're
going
to
want
to
take
a
left
onto
South,
Shafer
salt
Schaefer,
all
the
way
on
around
to
West
Union,
West
Union,
then
taking
a
right
and
heading
uptown
and
then,
if
you're,
heading
back
to
Baker,
Center
or
in
that
area.
The
easiest
thing
to
do
is
to
come
down
Richland
Avenue
and
deter
yourself
into
the
Baker
Center
area.
A
So
keep
that
in
mind
keep
them
in
mind.
There's
a
rendering
of
what
the
passageway
will
look
like
and
I
know
it's
not
in
this
rendering,
but
there
there
will
be
some
interesting
lighting
inside
the
tunnel.
It'll
be
LED
lighting,
kind
of
like
rope
lighting,
but
it'll
be
kind
of
artistically
laid
out
inside
a
passageway.
A
So
this
will
be
a
great
project
as
it
rolls
forward.
Other
things
going
on.
We
have
several
things
that
Arts
West
Arts
West
has
Thursday
February
20th
from
6
to
9
p.m.
it's
going
to
be
the
third
Thursday
square.
Dance
social
and
jam
with
Joe
burdock
that
will
be
a
$6
suggested
donation
to
come
and
dance.
There's
a
dance
following
from
7:00
to
9:00,
but
it
is
an
open
string
jam
so
come
on
down
and
be
a
part
of
that.
That's
Thursday
Friday,
the
21st
from
8
to
10:45
p.m.
A
is
the
drum
and
music
jam
that
is
a
5
to
$10,
suggested
donation.
Then
Friday,
jumping
forward
in
time.
This
Friday
from
7
p.m.
till
doesn't
have
an
ending
time.
It's
going
to
be
the
moon
tunnel
graduate
literary
reading
series
that
will
be
at
Arts
West.
It
is
free
a
free
admission
for
anybody.
It's
sponsored
by
a
high
high
University's
Department
of
English
series
that
features
the
works
of
creative
writers
from
oh,
you
graduate
program,
so
that
would
be
an
interesting
event
again.
Friday
this
Friday
February,
7th
at
7
p.m.
A
A
A
Another
thing
that
we're
encouraging
people
to
go
to
is
going
to
be
happening
on
February
25th,
which
is
a
Tuesday,
the
25th
from
3
to
6
p.m.
the
Conference
Center
room
103
at
the
Innovation
Center
out
on
West
State
Street,
and
this
is
the
city
of
Athens
West,
Union,
Street
improvement
project,
open
house
2,
where
there
will
be
a
number
of
image
boards
up
that'll
describe
the
improvements
that
are
gonna
happen
on
West
Union.
A
This
is
going
to
be
West
Union
from
Schaefer
Street,
which
what
part
of
that
improvement
will
be
to
put
a
roundabout
at
the
intersection
of
Schaffer
and
West
Union.
And
then
the
project
scope
will
go
all
the
way
on
out
to
the
bridge
the
682,
no,
the
56,
sorry
West,
Union
bridge
that
goes
over
the
Hocking
River.
It
will
end
at
the
toe
of
the
bridge,
basically
at
the
north
end
of
that
bridge.
A
A
Granted
we've
got
a
lot
going
on
in
the
city
this
year
or
pushing
that
that
one
won't
be
for
another
year.
Yet
other
things
going
on.
There
will
be
a
Athens
County,
Probate,
juvenile
judge,
candidates,
forum
or
debate
or
whatever
you
want
to
call
it.
It
will
be
rusty,
Rittenhouse
and
Zach
Saunders.
This
is
going
to
be
February
6th
at
the
Athens
Community
Center
room
a
at
6:30
p.m.
so.
A
If
you
want
to
listen
to
the
ways
in
which
rusty,
Rittenhouse
and
Zack
Saunders
will
they
view
that
particular
role
as
a
judge
come
out
and
listen
to
them,
and
you
can
probably
list
some
of
your
own
questions
and
see
how
they
respond
to
issues
that
you
find
important
to
the
juvenile
probate
judge
or
for
that
role.
I
received
this
from
someone
not
too
long
ago
today,
February
5th
at
the
Athena
Theatre
uptown
here
is
going
to
be
the
story
of
plastic
that
will
be
at
7
p.m.
7
p.m.
A
show
time
it's
free
admissions,
and
it
is
about
the
impact
of
plastics
on
our
in
our
environment,
discussion
of
the
petrochemical
hub
preview,
film,
a
film
by
Ohio,
University
student,
Garrett,
dill,
Dean,
Dilton,
and
learn
more
about
the
work
of
the
rethink
plastics
group
here
in
Athens
so
worth
checking
out
tomorrow
evening.
We've
got
a
lot
on
our
plate
for
things
going
on
in
the
city
tomorrow
evening,
at
the
oh,
you
in
at
the
John
W
Galbraith
room
is
thriving,
while
black,
this
is
I
would
really
like
to
be
there.
A
Unfortunately,
I
have
another
event
that
I
have
to
attend,
but
it
is
tomorrow
evening
from
6
to
8
p.m.
one
of
the
newly
appointed
Commission
on
disabilities.
Members
JW
Smith,
dr.
JW
Smith
will
be
one
of
the
speakers,
as
will
dr.
Arthur
C
Cromwell,
associate
professor
in
the
School
of
Media
Arts
and
studies
and
dr.
Edith
Daschle.
A
She
will
be
also
speaking.
She
joined
the
scrips
School
of
Journalism
in
1992.
I
have
known
her
for
quite
some
time,
so
quite
the
interesting
lineup
again,
the
title
of
that
is
thriving
well
black,
so
check
that
out,
and
that
is
for,
as
you
hopefully
know
already,
that
this
is
Black
History
Month
here
in
the
city
of
Athens,
since
across
the
state
and
across
the
nation.
Another
event
that's
coming
up
and
I
will
be
speaking
at
this
briefly.
A
A
He
was
a
lawyer
here
in
the
city
of
Athens
in
the
late
1800s
into
the
early
1900s
I,
believe
he
passed
away
in
1922
here
in
Athens.
Interestingly,
there
is
an
image
over
in
the
courthouse
that
has
all
of
the
lawyers.
Those
who
were
board-certified
are
bar
certified
lawyers
in
this
city
and
licensed
in
the
city
of
Athens
and
back
then
it
was
a
village
of
Athens
and
he
was
not
among
them.
So
it's
going
to
again
be
paying
tribute
to
to
Andrew
Jackson
Davison
Esquire.
A
Another
event:
that's
going
to
be
happening.
This
is
a
little
bit
later
in
the
month
is
going
to
be
Thursday
February
20th.
This
is
accessible
Ohio
with
a
keynote
speaker
having
garum
I.
Think
I
mentioned
this
at
City
Council,
the
other
night
last
Monday
night.
This
is
being
sponsored
by
the
city
of
Athens,
the
Center
for
Law
and
Justice,
the
Athens
County
Bureau
ethnicity,
board
of
built
mental
disabilities
in
several
Ohio
University
departments,
or
entities
to
include
Ohio
University,
Division
of
Student
Affairs
and
the
Multicultural
Center
Department
of
inclusion
and
diversity.
A
This
will
be
at
Margaret,
Walter,
Hall
rotunda
in
the
rotunda
again
6:30
p.m.
on
February
20th,
we're
gonna
be
doing
a
ribbon-cutting
ceremony.
This
one
is
going
to
be
a
rather
interesting
one.
I
mentioned
this
at
Council
the
other
night
that
we
now
have
added
a
new
electric
vehicle
to
the
fleet
to
the
existing
electric
field,
vehicle
fleet,
bringing
our
total
number
up
to
five
for
the
city
of
Athens.
This
newest
vehicle
is
a
Chevy
bolt
used
to
be
Chevy
Volts.
A
Now
it's
a
Chevy
bolt
which
is
outfitted
with
a
the
fast
charge
ability
for
fast
charge
charging
stations,
so
it
is
now
housed
down
at
the
Department
of
Engineering
and
Public
Works.
So
there's
gonna
be
a
ribbon-cutting
on
March
12th
from
2
to
4
p.m.
down
at
the
city
pool
down
near
the
community
center
at
the
city
pool
parking
lot
at
601,
East,
8th
Street.
A
We
will
have
our
Eevee
fleet
down
there,
but
this
is
the
city's
first
fast
charge.
Dc
charging
station,
which
is
kind
of
a
big
deal
with
the
onboarding
in
the
future
of
an
electric
bus
or
shuttle
with
Athens
public
transit
having
a
fast
charge
down
at
the
pool
not
only
serves
vehicle,
the
evie
vehicle
drivers,
the
ability
to
jump
on
and
within
30
minutes.
You
can
bring
your
car
back
up
to
80
percent
of
its
charge.
A
It
also
helps
with
the
athens
public
transit
evie
fleet
to
jump
on
to
while
they're
on
route
and
charge
themselves
up
and
get
back
on
to
the
route
to
continue
their
service
for
the
city
of
athens.
So
again,
that
will
be
Thursday
March
12th
from
2
to
4
p.m.
and
we're
hoping
to
see
a
number
of
dignitaries
from
the
state,
as
well
as
representation,
we're
hoping
from
the
governor's
office
and
then
also
clean
fuels.
A
Ohio
I
know
that
they're
closely
tracking
this
and
are
certainly
excited
about
our
pivoting
as
we
move
forward
in
the
city
of
Athens,
in
reducing
our
carbon
footprint
and
driving
green.
The
last
thing
I've
got
for
today
is
kind
of
a
whole
list
of
things,
so
I'm
going
to
go
through
these
all
and
then
I
will
come
back
around
as
we
get
closer
to
the
individual
dates
for
a
number
of
things
going
on
the
Athens
Hawking
solid
waste
districts,
2020
recycling
events,
I've
got
the
calendar
in
front
of
me.
A
Saturday
the
21st
of
March
at
the
fairgrounds
we'll
be
having
a
recycling
event,
the
it'll
be
from
9:00
to
1:00
p.m.
or
until
the
trailer
is
full.
The
Hocking
County
Fair
Grounds
is
going
to
be
having
one
and
it'll
be
from
1
to
I'm,
sorry,
9:00
a.m.
to
1:00
p.m.
again,
or
until
the
trailer
is
full
that
will
be
Saturday,
March
28th.
Again,
that's
in
the
at
Hocking
County
on
April
18th,
the
Athens
County
Fairgrounds
will
be
hosting
another
one
tire
recycling.
A
A
and
that
one
will
be
at
the
fairgrounds
Hawking
County
Fairgrounds
will
have
an
a
second
one
for
tire
recycling
on
April
25th
spring
recycling
day
for
the
Hocking
County
part
of
the
district
will
be
May
9th
and
then
the
Athens
County
Fairgrounds
will
be
hosting
the
spring
recycling
day.
It
will
be
May
16th
that
one
again
will
be
from
9
a.m.
to
1
p.m.
A
Hawking.
College
lot
is
going
to
do
a
household
hazardous
waste.
This
is
paint
household,
chemicals,
no
tires
appliances,
books,
electronics
and
it
will
be
for
Athens
and
Hawking
residents.
Only
that
is
July
18th
again,
that's
at
the
Hocking
college.
Lot
number
3,
then
for
October,
Saturday
October
3rd
will
be
a
fall
recycling
day,
Athens
County
Fairgrounds.
A
It
will
be
for
a
waste
books.
Appliances
batteries
bulbs
tires
will
be
accepted,
with
a
regular
at
the
regular
fee,
no
limit
on
quantities.
There
will
also
be
this
is
interesting,
free
document
shredding
at
the
fall
recycling
day,
a
four
box
limit
for
the
shredding,
the
Hocking
county
will
be
doing
there.
How
can
I
be
doing
there
fall
recycling
day
and
that
again
same
thing?
Ze
waste
books,
appliances,
batteries,
bulbs,
tires
in
limited
quantities
and
then
four
boxes
of
documents
to
be
shredded.
A
That
will
be
Saturday,
October,
10th,
October
10th
again
there
you
have
the
whole
lineup
of
all
things,
recycling
and
hazardous
waste
and
things
you
just
need
to
get
rid
of,
as
we
all
do
from
time
to
time
as
Kyle.
Thank
you
again
for
being
our
weather
reporter
our
sports,
reporter
/
analyst
and
then
other
things
going
on
in
the
world
of
oh,
you
and
the
city
of
Athens.
So
thank
you
and
thank
you
for
tuning
in.
Please
join
us
next
week
for
the
next
installment
of
the
mayor's
weekly
press
conference.
Take
care.
