Description
Mayor's Press Conference January 22, 2020
A
Good
afternoon
welcome
once
again
to
the
mayor's
weekly
press
conference.
It's
a
it's
chilly
outside.
It
truly
is
this
earlier
today,
I
walked
up
to
Baker
Center
for
a
meeting,
and
it
was
brisk
took
me
a
little
while
to
rewarm
and
then
would
the
the
brisk
walk
back
to
the
city
building
and
that
all
said,
as
usual,
my
honorary
meteorologist
Kyle
Johansen
is
here
to
give
us
the
weekly
update.
B
A
On
so
there
you
have
it
both
meteorologists
and
sportscaster
we're
gonna
kind
of
migrate.
You
into
both
those
worlds
Kyle
to
keep
people
on
point
with
things
going
on
around
the
city
and
Ohio
University
with
their
sports
program.
Some
updates
on
things
going
on
around
the
city
in
the
world
of
engineering
and
Public
Works
self,
Schaeffer,
Street,
westbound,
there's
gonna,
be
a
lane.
Closure
it'll
be
from
West
State
Street
to
West
Washington
Street
that
started
Tuesday
and
it's
a
merge.
Storm
repairs
likely
still
some
some
punch
list
items
down
in
that
area.
A
A
Trimming
will
be
State,
Route,
680
to
Arnage
Road,
West,
Union,
Street,
West,
State,
Street,
State,
Route,
56,
Harold,
Avenue,
Bleck,
Avenue,
fairgrounds,
Avenue
or
fairgrounds
road
Eliot's,
Ville
Road,
and
that
looks
like
that's
the
list
and
if
you've
got
question
about
any
of
the
AEP
tree
trimming
that's
going
on.
Let
me
give
you
this
and
jot
this
down.
A
If
you've
got
a
tree
that
you'd
like
to
have
picked
up,
you
can
certainly
call
the
the
pickup
line
at
five
nine,
two
three
three
four
three
to
schedule:
free
tree
pickup
before
again,
it's
free
folks
and
then
any
other
information
or
questions
you
might
have.
The
regarding
engineering
and
public
works
always
feel
free
to
contact
them
at
five.
Nine,
three,
seven,
six,
three
six.
A
Farmers,
market
location,
there's
going
to
be
a
open
forum
and
to
talk
about
the
project
and
some
possible
new
options
for
where
the
farmers
market
could
go.
We've
talked
about
this
on
previous
press
conferences,
so
Thursday
tomorrow,
On
January,
23rd
from
6:00
to
8:00
p.m.
at
the
community
center,
and
it's
going
to
be
in
activity
rooms,
B
and
C,
where
they
will
have
what
you're.
A
Looking
at
on
the
TV
right
now
we're
option
a
has
farmers
market
place
located
where
the
dog
park
is
and
the
dog
park
migrating
over
to
where
the
tennis
courts
are
or
option.
B
would
be
the
complete
opposite
to
where
the
location
for
farmers
market
could
be
near.
The
solar
panels
and
dog
park,
certainly
staying
where
it
is.
With
some
improvements.
You
know.
If
you
look
at
the
dog
park
itself,
it
dog
park
is
very
large.
A
The
former
baseball
field
down
there
and
there's
certainly
the
ability
to
kind
of
rethink
that
space
as
a
dog
park,
but
possibly
moving
it
somewhat
to
the
west
and
having
things
like
tennis
courts
moved
over
there
and
pickleball
courts.
Pickleball
is
one
of
those
sports.
It's
really
kind
of
taken
off.
You
know
across
the
nation
really,
but
certainly
there's
a
strong
pickle
board,
pickleball
contingent
here
in
the
city
of
Athens,
so
we're
exploring
again
multiple
multitude
of
opportunities
with
the
community
center
campus
now
other
things
at
the
community
center.
A
The
security
center
is
in
need
of
certified
officials
for
the
youth,
basketball,
leagues,
I've
mentioned
this
in
the
past,
must
be
a
certified
official
and
the
pay
rate
is
$18.
Per
game
games
are
typically
in
the
evenings
and
on
Saturdays,
if
you're
interested
in
this-
and
you
are
a
certified
official
for
a
basketball
youth
basketball.
Please
contact
the
community
center
at
five
nine,
two
three
three,
two
five
or
you
can
reach
out
to
Aaron
Helms
who's,
our
program
specialist,
at
e
Helms,
h,
e
lms
@
CI,
dot,
athens,
0,
h,
us.
A
Afternoon,
art
classes
for
kids.
This
is
unit
2
of
the
kids
art
classes.
Registration
is
still
open
through
the
24th
classes
are
ongoing
through
March
5th.
They
are
from
3:45
to
5:15.
So
if
you're
interested
again
reach
out
to
the
community
center
about
that-
and
then
I've
talked
about
this
several
times
and
that
is
coming
up.
A
February
1st
at
9
a.m.
at
the
community
center
is
the
National
girls
in
sports
women
in
sports
day.
Athens
breakfast
the
champions
here
in
Athens.
That
too
is
at
the
community
center.
So
please
reach
out.
You
can
call
five
nine
to
three
three
to
five
to
get
more
details
on
that.
I
believe
that
this
is
a
ticketed
event
or
at
least
a
reserved
seating
attend
event
is
not
to
get
it's
free
to
attend,
but
we
ask
individuals
to
register
in
advance
for
those
who
want
to
go
to
that.
A
Arts
West,
Saturday,
January
25th
from
12:00
to
1:00
p.m.
is
the
winter
front
and
center
features
special
musical
guest
and
performance
in
QA,
followed
by
school-aged
children's
open
stage,
so
Adam
remnant
will
be
the
special
guest
for
this
particular
event.
And
again,
this
is
free
to
the
public
Thursday
January
30th
from
7
to
10
p.m.
we
have
the
tree.
Water
initiative
benefit
the
this
is
an
entertainment
evening
of
entertainment
to
raise
funds
for
tree
water
initiative,
which
is
a
nonprofit
started
by
longtime
Athens
residents.
A
Jamie
dedicated
to
planting
trees
in
Gaza,
so
this
is
an
interesting
event
to
come
and
check
out
and
then
Friday
January
31st
5:00
to
7:00
p.m.
it
is
the
arts
reception
for
Charlie
tow
bells
major
vibes
and
Wendy
Vinton
Wendy
miner,
Vinton
Benny
solo
show
again
at
the
at
Arts
West.
This
is
free,
January
31st,
so
come
check
that
out
again
5:00
to
7:00
p.m.
the
last
thing
that
I've
got
for
today,
and
hopefully
we
can
queue
this
up,
I'm,
getting
a
big
thumbs
up
from
Scott
Thompson
is
the
Richland
Avenue
pedestrian
passage
way.
A
That
way,
you
can
also
deviate
around
with
Bobcat
Lane
Bobcat
lane
will
be
open
to
where
people
can
kind
of
head
through
campus
heading
south
on
Richland
Avenue
to
Bobcat
Lane
and
getting
off
that
way.
So
we
have
a
number
of
things
we
will
have
this
well
signed
with
our
variable
message
signed,
and
we
will
make
sure
we
get
this
image
up
on
the
website
to
where
it
is
out
there
and
there
for
everyone
to
view.
A
But
you're
gonna
hear
me
repeating
this
on
this
show,
as
well
as
city
council
members
council
meetings
moving
forward
again
this
would
be
a
big
project.
The
project
will
release
March,
2nd
construction
will
begin
on
that
date
and
construction
will
run
through
September
11th
so
that
we
get
this
done
in
a
timely
way.
A
We
will
be
working
closely
with
Ohio
University
to
where
this
message
gets
out
to
parents
and
students,
in
particular
the
incoming
freshman
class,
to
where
they
know
the
ways
that
they
can
easily
get
onto
campus
as
they
are
going
through
the
move-in
process
and
the
move
out
process
for
those
who
are
already
here.
So
some
growing
pains
in
the
city
of
Athens,
but
we
will
get
through
it
and
it'll
be
a
great
feature
moving
forward
in
terms
of
D,
conflicting
Richland,
Avenue
and
West
Green
Baker
Center
foot
traffic.
A
So
there
you
have
it
for
the
show
today,
Kyle
once
again,
thank
you
for
being
on
the
show.
I
really
appreciate
you
taking
time
out
of
your
day
to
be
a
part
of
my
press
conference,
and
that
said
thanks
for
tuning
in
and
please
tune
in
again
next
week
for
the
next
installment
of
the
mayor's
weekly
press
conference.
Take
care.
