Description
Mayor's Press Conference January 28, 2020
B
So
today's
gonna
be
cloudy
skies
high
of
38
low
of
25
tomorrow,
partly
cloudy
skies
high
43
12:28
Friday
Christ,
guys
high
44,
gloves
31
Saturday
afternoon
showers
by
45
of
31
Sunday,
partly
cloudy
skies,
high
47
low
of
36
Monday,
partly
cloudy
skies
high
of
58
low
of
45
Tuesday
showers.
I
have
50
love,
36
and
X
Wednesday
morning,
rain/snow
showers,
high
44,
love
birdie,
so.
A
A
You
know
we
have
a
great
special
guest,
that's
going
to
be
coming
to
Athens
this
Friday
and
will
be
here
for
the
national
girls
and
women
in
sports
day
here
in
Athens
and
for
the
breakfast
of
champions
and
I'll
get
to
more
details
on
that.
But
we
were
all
kind
of
sitting
here
with
Scott
Thompson
and
Ryan
Schwartz
off
who,
as
usual,
are
doing
an
outstanding
job
running
the
government
Channel
we're
all
kind
of
talking
about
the
sundry
of
different
things
that
I
mentioned
that
that
Amy
aber
who's
going
to
be
our
keynote
speaker.
A
Who's
been
working
for
Nike
for
the
past
25
years,
I
believe
it
is,
and
it
caused
me
to
start
reminiscing
about.
You
know
the
the
early
history
of
Nike
when
Nike,
which
was
founded
by
Phil
Knight,
but
also
worked
diligently
with
Bob
Bowerman,
our
Bill
Bowerman
of
the
the
famous
coach
for
University
of
Oregon
back
in
the
day,
as
well
as
Steve,
Prefontaine
and
kind
of
segwayed.
From
that
into
you
know
the
unfortunate
passing
back
in
the
70s
of
ste
Prefontaine.
But
most
recently
we
had
a
loss
too
didn't
we
Kobe.
A
Kobe
and
his
daughter
had
a
number
of
other
people
who,
which
again
is,
is
unfortunate,
as
is
unfortunate
if
anybody
passes
away
but
but
that
way
I
don't
mean
to
segue
from
something
like
that
into
sports.
But
let's
talk
a
little
bit
about
sports
Kyle.
What
has
been
happening
in
the
world
of
sports
here
in
Athens
and
Beyond,
and
what
is
coming
up
in
the
near.
B
Future
so
this
past
Saturday
was
a
doubleheader
for
women's
and
men's
basketball.
Teams
woman's
like
one
against
Bowling
Green
79
to
69,
and
the
men
stayed
lost
against
Akron,
86,
84
and
tonight
the
moments
back
women's
basketball
game
is
out
taking
cover
at
7:00
p.m.
and
the
next
doubleheader
game.
It's
Saturday
February,
8th
woman's
that
one
and
Mathis
at
3:30.
There
you
go
so.
A
A
lot
happening,
a
lot
that
did
happen
and
it's
always
fun
watching
to
see
how
the
Bobcats
are
doing
and
elsewise.
So
thank
you.
Kyle
thanks
for
both
the
weather,
it's
always
great.
Having
you
tell
us
that
the
weather
updates
are
as
well
as
now
again
as
I've
mentioned
in
the
past
and
I'm
gonna.
Mention
again
is
that
you
know
we're.
Gonna
have
Kyle
talking
about
various
things,
all
things
sports
in
the
city
of
Athens,
and
you
know
soon
not
too
far
in
the
distant
future.
A
We're
gonna,
have
you
know
the
Copperheads
starting
things
back
up
in
the
city
of
Athens.
Don't
do
you
attend
the
Copperhead
games?
Yes,
I
did
there
you
go
so
we'll
have
reporting
on
that
with
me
as
well.
Another
happening
is
around
the
city,
all
things,
arts,
or
not
all
rights,
Parks
and
Rec,
we'll
get
to
that
in
a
minute,
but
all
things,
engineering
and
Public
Works
Mill
Street
lane
closure.
A
This
is
a
closure
between
Palmer
and
Oak
Street
on
Mill
Street.
So
it's
a
Mill
Street
project
that'll
be
Thursday.
January
30th
for
storm
line
repair
from
8
a.m.
to
4
p.m.
emergency
traffic
will
be
maintained.
Note
through
traffic
motorists
are
advised
as
as
usual
to
avoid
that
area.
Again
it's
between
Palmer
Street
and
Oak
Street,
so
not
a
long
section,
but
it's
a
section
that
needs
some
attention:
Mae
North,
Mae,
lane
closure
North
may
Avenue.
A
This
started
today
for
sanitary
sewer
line
repair
started
at
8:00
a.m.
slated
8
a.m.
to
4:00
p.m.
so.
Keep
that
in
mind
as
well.
Again,
emergency
traffic
will
be
maintained
through
there,
but
no
through
traffic.
The
easiest
way
around
that
one,
if
you're
heading
up
cable
lane,
is
to
use
two
lane
and
just
bypass
that
2.
A
If
you're
heading
up
cable
to
strout's
Run
Road,
let's
see
oh
the
other
one
and
again
this
one
I
just
want
to
get
in
front
of
everybody
who
is
viewing
and
Beyond
over
and
over
and
over
again
is
the
Richland
Avenue
pedestrian
passageway,
which
will
be
a
fairly
significant
project.
It
will
also
be
a
fairly
long
project
if
you
think
of
it.
A
Typically,
over
the
summer,
once
we
try
to
squeeze
and
compress
as
much
in
as
we
possibly
can
this
one
with
it's
just
going
to
there's
so
much
work
to
be
done
on
this
particular
project
that
we
have
extended
it.
It
will
start
well
we're
going
to.
We
will
be
releasing
the
project
March
2nd,
which
is
a
Monday
with
the
hope
that
it
will
be
completed
by
September
11th.
So
what
you're
looking
at
right
now
is
the
map
of
the
detour.
A
You
can
also,
if
you're,
turning
back
to
get
in
to
head
down
to
Baker
Center
that
way,
I
believe
you
can
head
down
Richland
Avenue
off
of
West
Union
across
the
Oxbow
bridge
and
enter
in
that
way,
but
again
there's
going
to
be
significant
work.
So
just
keep
that
in
mind.
This
is
a
great
rendering
of
what
this
will
look
like
it's
going
to
be
wide
Airy
and
largely
successful
indie,
conflicting
Richland
Avenue
as
you're.
Looking
at
this,
it's
gonna
go
subgrade
from
what
is
Richland
Avenue
now,
but
it'll
also
elevate
the
road
deck.
A
If
you
think
about
it,
it's
kind
of
like
building
a
bridge
that
is
going
to
be
crossing
over
a
pedestrian
passageway
that
will
connect
West
Greene
with
Baker
Center
Porter
Hall
Grover
Center
Margaret
Walter
Hall
it'll
really
help
with
D
conflicting
this
area.
So
just
keep
that
in
mind.
We've
got
a
multi-month
project,
that'll
be
taking
place
again,
releasing
the
project
March
2nd,
and
we
will
be
continuing
on
our
the
project
will
continue
on
through
September
11th.
A
So
keep
that
in
mind.
Another
thing
that
I
want
to
mention
to
everyone
is
again
starting
soon
coming
out
as
quickly
is
the
2020
census.
I
can't
stress
this
enough
in
that
we
really
need
to
make
sure
that
we
get
a
complete
count,
in
other
words,
getting
everybody
to
make
sure
that
you
are
enumerated
in
the
census.
A
Count
for
Athens
Athens
County,
the
state
of
Ohio,
you
name
it,
but
in
particular
my
charge
is
to
make
sure
that
the
city
of
Athens
gets
the
most
complete
count
possible
to
where
you
know,
from
children,
on
up
to
all
of
our
older
adults
and
everybody
and
every
in-between,
and
to
include
some
of
our
more
undercounted
populations
or
precincts.
I
should
say
we
tend
to
be
the
student
dense,
popular
precincts
within
the
city
of
Athens,
and
so
we're
really
gonna
be
making
a
big,
concerted
effort
and
a
big
push
to
make
sure
everyone
gets
counted.
A
The
big
change
this
year
is
that
you
can
go
online
through
the
US
Census
u.s.
census,
2020
and
you
can
be
counted
online
for
the
first
time
ever.
It
has
never
been
done
before
before
it's
all
been
via
paper
or
having
enumerators
come
and
knock
on
your
door
and
say
you
know,
have
you
been
counted
yet
so
we're
we're
really
hopeful
that,
with
this
new
tool
that
we'll
be
able
to
work
more
streamline
and
getting
people
counted
in
the
2020
census,
again.
A
The
other
thing
is
to
make
sure
that
we
get
a
complete
count
so
that
we
don't
lose
seats
in
Congress.
You
know
that's
vitally
important
as
well
to
where,
if
we
get,
if
we
have
an
undercount
or
if
things
change
significantly,
we
actually
could
lose
one
of
our
representatives,
one
of
our
Congress
members
from
the
state
of
Ohio.
When
it
comes
to
representing
us
up
in
Washington
DC
you're
over
in
Washington,
DC,
so
again,
vitally
important.
We
will
likely
be
pushing
this
out
in
people's
utility
bills
on
the
lower
portion
of
the
bill.
A
Shifting
gears
a
little
bit
arts
West
several
things
going
on
the
art
reception
for
Charlie
to
Val.
It
is
major
vibes
and
then,
when
D
minor,
Vinnie's
solo
show.
This
is
again
at
arts
West.
This
will
be
January
31st.
So
that
would
be
this
Friday
from
5
to
7
p.m.
there
is
no
admission,
so
it's
free,
so
please
come
on
and
check
it
out.
It
will
be,
let's
see
several
things
going
on
there.
Art
will
also
be
on
display,
so
the
art
in
its
gonna
be
on
display
from
January
6th.
A
So
it's
already
up
through
Friday
it'll,
be
upstairs
and
downstairs
in
both
the
galleries.
Just
as
a
reminder,
we
do
have
a
downstairs
gallery
as
well
as
the
upstairs
gallery
so
come
and
check
that
out.
Please
would
imagine
I've
not
seen
it
yet.
So,
who
knows
there
might
be
a
major
sighting
at
Arts,
West
and
I'll
come
check
it
out
and
you
can
join
me.
The
other
thing
is
Saturday
February
1st
hard
to
believe
it's
going
to
be
February
early
right.
B
A
A
Minute
a
minute
better,
every
day,
now
I
don't
know
Scott,
you
want
to
do
some
fact.
Checking
on
that
to
see
you
know.
I'm
the
mayor,
I'm
gonna,
claim
that
it
will
we're
just
gonna
make
sure
it
gets
dark
for
a
minute.
Sooner.
Every
day,
let's
see
community
work,
the
community
workshop
at
Mountain
Zion
preservation
project.
This
is
cool,
and
so
please
come
out.
Saturday
February,
1st
1,
2,
3
p.m.
believe
this
is
at
let's
see
at
Arts.
A
West
I
certainly
hope
so,
but
this
is
the
first
in
a
series
of
the
20/20
events
supporting
the
preservation
of
this
historic
landmark
and
it
is
a
historic
landmark.
The
Mount
Zion
Church
Preservation
Society
is
working
with
the
citizens
Institute
for
rural
design
to
advance
the
mission
of
saving
this
historic
building
in
planning
for
the
future
as
a
hub
in
the
racial
as
a
hub
for
racial
equity
within
the
region's
cultural,
social
and
economic
landscapes.
A
The
goal
toward
that
goal,
the
Society,
is
hosting
a
series
of
workshops
to
invite
community
participation
in
the
planning
process.
You
know
the
just
again
a
little
factoid
about
this.
Those
of
you
who
remember
or
have
heard
about
the
berry
hotel.
You
know
you
go
to
I
believe
now.
It's
called
hangover
easy.
It
used
to
be
the
diner
in
front
of
that
building
right
on
Court
Street.
There
is
a
historical
marker
about
the
berry
hotel,
Edward
berry
was
a
very
prolific
business
tour.
He
was
a
restaurateur.
A
He
was
a
hotelier
here
in
the
city
of
Athens.
He
donated
the
land
that
became
the
land
on
which
Mount
Zion
Church
was
established.
So
there's
a
lot
of
local
heritage
and
a
lot
of
african-american
black
culture
heritage
with
Mount,
Zion,
Church
and
so
to
come.
Check
that
out.
Please
Thursday
February
6th
from
6
to
8
p.m.
will
be
the
first
Thursday
old
string
time
jam
so
come
down
and
check
that
out.
The
string
jam
will
also
occurred
also
will
occur.
The
third
Thursdays.
A
Prior
to
a
square
dance,
which
is
from
6:00
to
7:00
p.m.
so
I
guess,
there's
square
dancing
taking
place
it's
a
free
admission.
Donations
are
appreciated
if
you
want
to
come
down
to
the
Thursday
old-time
string,
jam,
Friday,
February,
7th
from
5
to
7
p.m.
for
the
love
of
Athens
opening
reception.
This
is
a
an
exhibit
of
pictures
of
people
places
and
things
in
Athens
County,
so
come
and
check
that
out
admission
to
that
is
free
as
well,
so
come
check
that
out
again
5:00
to
7:00
p.m.
for
the
opening
reception
of
all
things
Athens.
A
The
last
thing
that
I've
got,
which
is
kind
of
looking
out
a
little
bit
further
February
18th
from
well
at
6
p.m.
at
the
Athens
Middle
School
Auditorium
is
a
celebration
to
celebrate.
Black
History,
Entertainment,
guest
speakers
and
special
presentations
will
be
the
first
annual
Athens
Middle
School
student
led
event
for
the
entire
Athens
community
and
the
individual
who
will
be
honored
and
I.
Believe
it's
it's.
A
It
is
Andrew
Jackson
Davidson,
who
was
a
lawyer
and
I
believe
he
was
a
judge
here
in
Athens,
Athens,
County
and
I
believe
he
is
the
individual
being
honored
and
it's,
but
it's
the
middle
school.
It's
the
I
and
I'm,
proud
of
them
for
for
moving
this.
For
it's
the
first
ever
first
annual
Athens
middle
school
student
led
environment
for
the
entire
Evans
community,
celebrate
celebrate
Black
History,
so
come
and
check
that
out.
I
will
be
there
for
that
event.
Really
looking
forward
to
that
and
again
I
will
also
be
at
the
breakfast
of
champions.
A
This
Saturday
morning
at
9:00
p.m.
for
engaging
with
women
and
youth
leaders,
female
youth
leaders
in
all
sports.
They
have
quite
a
lineup
for
their
guest
speakers
and
their
panel
and
as
I
mentioned
and
a
bear
from
Nike
will
be
the
keynote
speaker
right
off
the
bat
first
thing
in
the
morning,
I'll
be
reading
a
proclamation
as
well
as
introducing
an
a
bear.
So
please
come
down
and
enjoy
that
I
think
you
do
need
to
register
because
there's
limited
seating,
but
it
is
free,
so
come
down
and
partake
in
that
Kyle.
A
Thank
you
once
again
for
reporting
out
our
local
weather,
as
well
as
love
having
the
dialogue
of
now
talking
about
all
things
sports
here
in
our
community
and,
like
I,
said
we'll
start
digging
into
the
copperheads
when
that
starts
up
again
in
the
not-too-distant
future.
So
thanks
for
tuning
in
and
please
join
us
again
next
week
for
the
next
mayor's
weekly
press
conference,
take
care.
