Description
Mayor's Weekly Update October 21, 2020
A
Good
afternoon
welcome
once
again
to
the
athens
weekly
update
with
the
mayor.
I
hope
everyone's
doing
well
out
there
today
and
for
the
remainder
of
the
week,
because,
as
kyle
is
about
to
tell
you,
things
are
really
forecasting
or
trending
to
be
nice
for
the
next
several
days
weather-wise,
I
was
just
out
getting
a
quick
bite
to
eat
and
I
can
attest
that
it
is
really
nice
outside
today.
So
kyle
take
it
away
with
the
seven
day
outlook.
B
tonight's,
partly
cloudy
areas
of
dense
fog,
low
53
tomorrow,
mostly
sunny
high
of
80.
tomorrow
night's
clear,
well
56
friday.
Mostly
sunny
a
stray
shower.
Storm
is
possible
high
of
78
friday
night
scattered
storms,
low
51,
chance
of
rain
50
saturday,
cloudy
high
of
57
saturday
nights
cloudy
well
45
sunday,
cloudy
high
of
64.
A
A
All
right,
because
I'll
tell
you
what
looking
out
my
office
window
there's
a
tree
that
is
just
brilliant,
yellow
in
terms
of
the
leaf
colors,
and
it's
really
nice.
A
So
kyle,
let's
kind
of
shift
gears
a
little
bit
if
we
can
and
talk
a
little
bit
about
covet
19
cases
as
you're
tracking
those
closely.
B
So
in
the
state
of
ohio,
there
are
now
roughly
almost
190
000
cases,
roughly
over
more
than
5
900
deaths
and
total
cases
united
states
nationwide.
There
are
now
8.5
million
cases
in
roughly
between
220
and
230
000
deaths
and
within
one
more
week,
or
so
we
are
seeing
a
rapid
acceleration
of
new
coronavirus
cases
in
the
united
states
as
well
as
deaths
and
hospitalizations,
and
totally
global
cases.
Now
in
the
world
are
now
over
41.1
million
cases
and
now
over
1.1
million
dead.
So
far,.
A
I
don't
have
today's
numbers
because
we're
coming
on
a
little
bit
early
today,
an
hour
earlier
than
as
usual,
but
yesterday's
numbers
were
257
positive
cases
in
athens
county
and
some
of
you
may
have
noticed
that
we
have
taken
a
variable
message
sign
up
onto
court
street.
So
it's
up
near
the
intersection
of
court
and
union
and
we
will
be
updating
those
active
cases
on
that
vms
daily,
except
for
saturdays
and
sundays,
saturdays
and
sundays.
A
We're
not
going
to
send
somebody
in
to
update
those
numbers,
but
we
will
continue
to
track
the
positive
cases
here
in
athens,
county
and
people
driving
by
will
be
able
to
see
them
so
for
today
you
know,
let
me
start
with
this
and
since
kyle
and
I
were
talking
through
covet
19
cases.
A
I
mentioned
this
at
almost
every
meeting.
You
know
really.
We
we've
got
to
do
everything
that
is
within
our
own
power
and
that
is
to
wear
a
mask
when
we're
out
in
public
or
we're
entering
into
a
business
that
is
open
to
the
public,
certainly
social,
distancing
from
each
other
and
to
wash
hands
as
frequently
as
is
possible
or
if
you're.
Like
me,
I
carry
around
with
me
a
bottle
of
hand,
sanitizer
that
I
actually
purchased
from
one
of
our
local
establishments
from
the
west
end
distillery.
A
They
were
selling
them
down
there.
They
may
still
have
those
being
marketed,
so
I
would
encourage
people
to
carry
something
like
that
with
you.
As
you're,
going
about
kelly
sauber
at
west
end
distillery
was
distilling
them
meeting
all
of
the
requirements
under
the
cdc
guidelines
for
making
hand
sanitizer.
So
keep
that
in
mind
a
couple
things
related
to
the
upcoming
31st
october
31st.
A
In
the
city
of
athens,
in
the
residential
neighborhoods,
which
I
was
coordinating
with
city
managers
and
mayors
of
of
other
municipalities,
villages
in
the
city
and
they
are
going
to
be
doing
theirs,
not
all
of
them,
but
most
of
them
are
going
to
be
doing
their
neighborhood
trick-or-treating
on
the
same
day
at
approximately
the
same
time.
A
So
that
will
certainly
be
helpful
for
not
having
people
migrating
in
and
out
of
multiple
jurisdictions
to
go
trick-or-treating,
but
just
exercise
caution
and
again,
if
you
see
you
know
gatherings
of
people,
not
social
distancing,
not
wearing
masks.
A
You
know
throughout
the
city
and
finally,
to
this
point
again,
if
you
enter
into
a
business
and
notice
that
people
are
not
masking
up
inside
of
a
business
that
is
open
to
the
public,
you
can
still
call
592-3313
and
report
that
to
the
police
department,
the
police
department
will
respond
and
address
that
with
the
business
as
well
as
individuals
who
are
not
masking
up
within
a
business.
A
A
They
have
currently
expensed
six
thousand
one
hundred
and
seven
dollars
of
that
twenty
five
thousand.
So
there
is
still
money
available
for
the
rent
mortgage
relief
fund,
the
other
grant
that
was
awarded
to
hapcap
and
they're,
administering
a
utility
city
utility
relief
fund.
Again
it's
a
grant.
It's
not
a
loan.
These
are
grants
that
was
75
000
that
went
to
half
cap
for
city
utility
relief
and
we're
really
encouraging
people
to
take
advantage
of
this.
It's
not
an
onerous
application.
A
You
just
have
to
prove
that
you
have
been
negatively
impacted
by
covet
19
with
additional
expenses
or
the
loss
of
employment
and
and
be
able
to
apply
for
that.
So
we're
asking
people.
Please
call
hapcap
at
seven
74076,
seven,
forty
five
hundred
again,
seven
four
zero,
seven,
six,
seven,
four:
five:
zero
zero
and
ask
about
the
either
rent,
slash
mortgage
relief
fund
or
the
city
utility
relief.
A
A
Athenscountyohedc1String.Com
and
this
who
can
qualify,
businesses
must
have
been
impacted
by
the
state
mandated
closures
beginning
march
15th,
businesses
must
be
located
in
athens
county
and
be
in
operation
prior
to
february.
15Th
of
2020
businesses
must
have
more
than
two
ftes
full-time
equivalents
or
full-time
employees,
but
fewer
than
25
full-time
employees,
annual
gross
receipts
for
the
business
preferred
to
be
less
than
two
million
dollars
in
gross
receipts.
Businesses
must
be
in
good
standing
with
local
state
and
federal
jurisdictions
in
regards
to
their
taxes,
expenses
that
are
eligible
under
this
program.
A
They
must
be
related
to
the
costs
of
businesses
interrupted
caused
by
either
closures
required
closures.
Requests
must
be
for
business
funds
already
spent
on
qualified
expenses
that
have
not
been
paid
for
by
other
government
funds
such
as
the
eidl
idol
or
the
ppp
payroll
protection
plan.
Eligible
costs
include
payroll
expenses
lease
and
mortgage
mortgage
expenses.
Certain
operational
expenses
supplies
related
to
the
interruption
of
the
business
due
to
the
required
closure.
A
A
U
is
in
uniform,
so
again,
https
colon,
slash,
rb
dot,
gy
slash,
I
7
f
w
3.
U
so
please
take
advantage
of
that.
If
you
are
a
business
owner
who
has
been
interrupted
by
the
copen
19
closures
that
occurred
back
on
march
15th
and
as
long
as
you
don't
have
a
gross
annual
gross
receipts
of
greater
than
2
million
again,
certainly
worth
looking
into
and
applying
for.
If
you
are
eligible.
A
Pesticide,
the
there
have
been
some
challenges
due
to
weather
that
the
contractor
experienced
on
monday
and
tuesday,
with
being
able
to
get
the
asphalt
down
asphalt,
is
being
put
down
today.
A
There
is
some
final
work
that
will
be
done
monday
to
where
they
will
have
to
have
some
flaggers
flagging
traffic
on
richland
avenue
on
monday
to
do
their
final
cleanup
in
that
area,
or
at
least
get
a
lot
of
that
done
and
finally
get
the
richland
avenue
pedestrian
passageway,
richland,
roadway
open
by
the
end
of
this
week
at
least
we're
anticipating
it.
So
there's
the
update
on
that
columbia,
gas
is
still
doing
work
down
on
stimson
avenue.
A
They
were
working
on
palmer
street.
This
week
looks
like
palmer
street
is
expected
to
be
closed
to
traffic
between
stimson
and
the
hawking
valley
bank
parking
lot
on
thursday
october
22nd,
tomorrow
from
8
to
5
p.m.
A
614-309-7570
six
north
court
street
will
be
closed.
Well,
it's
closed
today
and
tomorrow
it'll
be
closed
for
water
line
replacement
on
the
north
block.
That
will
be
between
rose
alley
and
carpenter.
A
So
keep
that
in
mind,
and
there
will
be
a
local
traffic
open
between
state
and
rose
alley,
so
that
will
be
going
on
brick,
restoration,
work
on
that
project
that
will
be
taking
place
at
a
later
date
date.
They
will
be
putting
in
the
crushed
limestone,
fill
and
then
coming
back
around
to
replace
the
bricks
that
have
been
pulled
up
for
that
project.
A
Some
up
upcoming
boards
and
commission
meetings
that
are
on
the
near
horizon
disabilities,
commission
will
be
the
will
be
tonight
at
5.
00
p.m.
Virtually
so
we
encourage
you
to
go
to
the
city's
website
and
check
out
how
to
attend
that
meeting.
If
you're
interested,
virtually
arts
parks
and
rec
advisory
board
meeting
is
tomorrow
evening
at
5,
30
pm,
again
that's
open
to
the
public
and
the
affordable
housing
commission.
It
will
be
october
23rd
at
noon,
so
those
will
all
be
broadcast
live
and
then
on
our
regular
rotation
on
the
government
channel.
A
For
those
wanting
to
watch-
and
I
would
encourage
people
who
might
be
interested
and
not
willing
to
venture
out,
we
did
a
remote
at
the
richland
avenue,
pedestrian
passageway,
I'm
sure
that
it's
still
cycling
out
there.
So
you
can
certainly
jump
on
the
athens
weekly
update
with
the
mayor
and
see
that
big.
Thank
you
to
ryan
shortscott,
who
was
great
in
helping
broadcast
that
out
and,
of
course,
scott
thompson
for
always
doing
a
great
job.
A
The
government
channel
getting
timely
content
out
to
the
public,
whether
it's
boards
and
commission
meetings,
city
council,
even
forums
for
elected
officials
and
this
program.
So
again
as
usual.
Thank
you
to
the
government
channel
and
one
last
thing.
We
are
less
than
two
weeks
away
from
the
election.
A
I
voted
early
voting
went
through
early
voting
yesterday,
so
I
would
encourage
you
to
take
advantage
of
early
voting.
If
you
choose
to,
I
have
always
been
a
traditionalist
and
voted
on
the
day
election
day.
A
I
found
it
really
easy
safe,
convenient
to
early
vote
up
at
the
board
of
elections
on
court
street
and
would
encourage
you
to
do
the
same,
and
everybody
do
your
best
to
do
your
civic
duty
and
get
out
and
vote
other
than
that.
Please
stay
safe
and
do
the
right
thing
for
all
those
around
you
that
when
you
are
out
and
about
make
sure
you
please
wear
a
mask
social
distance
wash
or
sanitize
your
hands
frequently,
you
know,
if
not
for
yourself
for
everybody
else.
A
That's
around
you,
thanks
for
tuning
in
and
hopefully
you'll
tune
in
again
next
week
for
the
athens
weekly
update
with
the
mayor
and
with
kyle
updating
us
on
the
weather
and
all
things
coronavirus,
take
care.
